Scott Bakula: There WILL be a Quantum Leap movie

Quote:

Not sure how we missed this news coming out of Comic-Con until now, but for Quantum Leap fans, it might have been the BIGGEST news to come out of Comic-Con. Quantum Leap will be back. And it will be back on the big screen.

At the "A Leap of Faith—A Quantum Leap Retrospective" panel, Scott Bakula shared the big news with the 600 fans who attended:

The good news is that Don [Quantum Leap creator Donald P. Bellisario] is working on the film script and has a big time Hollywood producer who wants to do it ... It's about time. But what I always thought would happen, happened ... [that he's now too old for the role]. But Dean [Stockwell, who played Al] and I will have a part in it somehow.
Don did say that as he was writing, he told me he was having trouble, 'getting you and Dean out of my head.' But I know he will do it.

So to recap—Big-screen Quantum Leap, yes; Scott Bakula as Sam Beckett, no; Scott Bakula as ... something, yes.

I caught a QL episode every now and again, but I wasn't a HUGE fan. Not sure how I feel about a big screen adaptation.

It sounds like they will be recasting or doing younger version type thing if Bakula and Stockwell aren't reprising their key roles.

Ahh, yet another "reboot"! Seems like everyone is willing to jump on the bandwagon, even the folks who created the original shows themselves.

I was never a big fan of the show either, but I did really like the premise. I liked the idea and the overall execution. It was one of those shows that really qualified as good sci-fi even though I never warmed up to it as much as I thought I might.

I seem to remember the episodes that had him portraying women the most. I guess because Bakula had to act out of the box to complete the task he was sent there for.

I think Bakula did fairly well on QL (from what I saw), so I was surprised it took me so long to warm up to his portrayal of Captain Archer (ENT).

I think there has been talk of a QL movie for a long time. If they hadn't waited so long, they could have used the original cast in their original roles (more easily). I am just waiting to see when the powers that be decide to reboot the series....its only a matter of time.
