That Stargate Universe/Stargate Atlantis crossover is GO!

In what's got to be the biggest Stargate-related news of the year, Joseph Mallozzi, executive producer for both Stargate Universe and Stargate Atlantis, announced details about an upcoming crossover between the two series, while at the same time teasing us with a big mystery.

Here's what Mallozzi had to say:

With word from producer John G. Lenic that the deals have been closed on those Atlantis alums, we can now move forward on the script, secure in the knowledge that both extra-special guest stars will actually be on hand to say the dialogue written specifically for them. Great news for fans of the old series. There was a reluctance to move ahead with an SGA crossover, particularly on my part, because the feeling was it would step on the timing of the SGA movie, Stargate: Extinction, the events of which directly proceed the Atlantis series finale, Enemy at the Gate. But given the delay on the movie front and the ideal premise pitched out by Remi Aubuchon and Brad Wright, it was decided to go ahead with the crossover.

Which makes us go, "Hooray!"

But it also makes us go—"Hey! Which Atlantis stars are you talking about?"

Unfortunately, we won't be finding out exactly which "extra-special guest stars" will be popping up on SGU until Syfy makes its official announcement. But that gives us a great excuse to speculate, because Mallozzi promises answers to the following questions:

Are Sheppard and Nancy rekindling their relationship? Are McKay and Keller married yet? Has Carson completely adjusted to the life he left behind? Are Rodney and Radek still having it out on a daily basis? Is Torren teaching his fellow pre-schoolers how to stick fight? What's going on with Ronon and Amelia? Was Woolsey happily reunited with his yorkie? Did Major Lorne come out with any personal revelations? Again, stay tuned.

Which Atlantis actors do YOU think/hope will be popping up on SGU?

Sounds like a lame attempt to boost ratings for SGU. I have about 10 episodes of SGU that I have saved and have not watched. I couldn't watch another episode it was becoming that much of a turn off. The only reason I save the episodes is because I might want to catch up in case I hear the series has made a huge turnaround.

Some of the elements that were coming along here towards SG-U's mid season break were giving me some signs of hope. Those elements come from previous SG mythos (I won't elaborate more than that). That shows promise. An "Atlantis" crossover to me just makes me wish they had taken that show for a couple of more seasons. However, this show, even with its obvious desire to be "grittier" needs the trademark SG gallows humor. Its darker edge could be so much fodder for that.

I've officially given up on SGU. I deleted all of the unseen episodes. I gave the series more than enough time to wow me or just keep me engaged. I'm sick of wasting time on mediocre TV. I will watch the crossover episode and the occasional episode if I hear great things, but I'm no longer actively recording it.
