If you want to watch the Pilot episode early, you can do so online right here…

http://www.syfy.com/caprica/

I watched about 2/3rds of the Pilot a few weeks ago. I chose to save the ending for when the series premieres. I didn’t know what to expect from this series, but I was pleasantly surprised from what I saw. I am definitely looking forward to the conclusion of the episode and to the series in general.

Has anyone been keeping up with this series? It is off to a promising start. I thought the ending to the Pilot was a mixture of surprise and expectation. I kind of new......

*Spoilers*

the daughter and the technology she created would play a part in the technology used to bring sentience to the Cylon, but I was surprised her avatar/personality ended up being fully integrated with the Cylon.

I find the machine looking Cylon to be more menacing than the human looking Cylons from the other series.

Okay, so far the one thing that is annoying me about this series is the incessant use of the word "Frak". Not only is it a stupid word (IMO), it is not necessary to use it so much to convey a point. I'm not opposed to the occasional cuss word, but this is getting ridiculous. I'm wondering if all of the characters have a quota to meet.

Ron Moore seems to love writing shows that dig into religion. There are several religious elements in "Caprica". Like with DS9, the elements seem to be mixed up a bit so as not to be specifically assigned to any one religion. This series is going to have a great deal to do with monotheism vs. polytheism (by appearances). "Sister" Clarice Willow playing a key part.

I had a thought about Zoe's outfit. We are going to be seeing that purple dress for the rest of the series. Just like a certain other Cylon who wore red... :/

Amanda Greystone standing up and telling the world her daughter was the terrorist who caused the incident (while she was at the memorial) was not a smooth move. She is distraught though.

What's with Sam Adama turning Joseph's son into a petty criminal?

I am expecting a lot of angst from this show. I was wondering how they were going to show us how things went downhill between Adama and his father. I guess a gangster uncle might look kind of cool to an adolescent. I must say though that young Adama's comments to his father were written and said in such a way that I could almost imagine Edward James Olmos delivering the lines. That is a nice little bit of character consistency.

The Graystone's are looking like one messed up couple. Mrs. Graystone's comments could easily get the family sued at this point and ruin them financially. Sure the family lawyers can claim she was under considerable stress when she made the remarks and really has no idea what she was talking about, but her daughter is being investigated as a possible suspect and that is likely to be admitted to at some point by the authorities. Even in an alien world, albeit one with some similar legal principles as ours own, I see a slew of settlements coming!

Have you caught up with BSG yet? Frak was used just as much in that show. And it is a hold over from the Glen Larson original.

I guess because we are in the same universe as BSG it makes sense, but as you note it is a theme that was big on DS9. If Moore (and Eick, but less so due to no involvement with Trek) is not careful he is going to come to be seen as having limited storytelling ideas.

Based on the look on Joseph's face at the end of last week's episode after Amanda proclaimed her daughter to be a terrorist, I predict Joseph is going to take up against the Graystones now.

Initially Joseph and his son will have problems, but Joseph's position against the Graystone will bring him and his son together somehow.

The corporation that Graystone runs does Defense work too. So he could possibly lose the contract for developing the Cylons.

No. I am still not all that interested in watching BSG. From what I saw, I do remember "Frak" being used. I find it to be a distraction. I hope they mellow out some with its use.

I think if the story doesn't get preachy to the viewers or try to mirror modern day events in a way that is designed to alienate a segment of the fanbase, then it might work out.

I think it will go the other way. There was never a lot of detail in BSG about it, but Adm. Adama apparently never really had a good relationship with his father. There may be some good moments, but from what I recall of BSG they will eventually have a serious falling out.

I don't think I am really giving anything away by divulging that bit. I think Joseph's relationships with his grandchildren will be better.

The Season Finale is on tonight ("End of Line"). Overall, I have been pleased with this season. The story has progressed nicely except for the virtual reality story with Adama's daughter. It looks like the writers are going to use that as a story crutch for the time being. I'd rather they move on with that as soon as possible. I'm hoping the fact that they are spending so much time on Tamara means she plays a significant role in the development of the Cylons. If not, then why are they focusing on her?

Anyway, looking forward to the conclusion tonight.

That's what I am wondering about too. Why are they spending so much time on Tamara? Zoey I understand and see as being critical to the development of the Cylon consciousness. The only reason I can Tamara being necessary is that her personality is what in the end perhaps gives the "rebel" Cylons their humanity.

I have the finale saved and will watch it soon. Maybe there will be an advancement on the Tamara storyline in the season wrap up. Although, you may have watched it by now and will have that answer. :P

Season 1.5 continues on Tuesday, Oct. 5, at 10 p.m.

In the first half of season one Barnabas' war with Clarice escalated, but his assassination attempt failed. Meanwhile, Joseph Adama finally found his daughter, but she killed his avatar to prevent him from returning to New Cap City. And Zoe attempted to escape by stealing a van, but ended up ramming it into a police barricade with unknown consequences.

What do we have to look forward to? Not having to wait until January to see new episodes of this gripping series. According to the Syfy press release, "The second half of season one will transport us from stunningly vivid, twisted Virtual realities to the fascinating outer worlds of the 12 Colonies. Along the way, revolutionary tensions rise, family power shifts and our characters grapple with the physical and emotional consequences of their questionable decisions. As the season races towards its stunning conclusion, each episode lays the groundwork for the inevitable (and brutal) clash between the new Cylon race and its human creators."

Source

I had read in another article that the actor's contracts are up in November, so the season's return was pushed up to October to gauge ratings before they decided whether or not to cancel (i.e. whether or not to renew their contracts). Source

I know I was struggling to stick with the series toward the airing of the last episode. Part of what was turning me off was the whole virtual world that Tamara was part of. I can't say that I am a big fan of Sister Clarice and that weird drug using multi-loving family cult of hers either.

Wow, Caprica and Sanctuary both appear to be on Tuesday nights now this fall. That's it ... nobody call me on Tuesdays; I will not be answering my phone.

Well guys, Caprica has been canceled...errr not picked up for a second season.

Syfy won't pick up season 2 of Caprica

Syfy announced it won't be picking up a second season of Caprica, the TV prequel that told how the Cylons of the reimagined Battlestar Galactica were born, and that the final five episodes of the series have been rescheduled for 2011.

Syfy released the following statement yesterday:

The remaining first run episodes of Caprica—airing Tuesdays at 10/9c—will be removed from the schedule as of next Tuesday, November 2. These final five episodes of the season will be re-scheduled to air at a to be announced time in the first quarter of 2011, and will conclude the run of the series.

"We appreciate all the support that fans have shown for Caprica and are very proud of the producers, cast, writers and the rest of the amazing team that has been committed to this fine series," said Mark Stern, Executive Vice President of Original Programming, Syfy and Co-Head of Content for Universal Cable Productions. "Unfortunately, despite its obvious quality, Caprica has not been able to build the audience necessary to justify a second season."

Oh, for crying out loud, can't they just let it finish out in one consecutive run? Now I have to try to remember to watch for it to come back later just to see how it all wraps up.

I'm not that surprised at the cancellation. I was on the fence about keeping up with the show.

I just think they went in too different a direction with this series for the BSG fans. It was too much a standard drama. Not that there weren't good things about it. It did seem to need to move a bit fast than it had been.
