Syfy is going to air the "V" mini-series movies all day long on Nov. 1st.

"V" airs 12:30pm - 5:00pm

"V: The Final Battle" airs 5:00pm - 11:00pm

I guess they are trying to capitalize on the new "V" that premieres next week on ABC.

Ordinarily I would recommend this, but seeing as the producers of the new version are going to such lengths as to distance themselves from it I don't know if watching it prior to the new one is a good idea for those unfamiliar with the original.

If that is not an issue then go for it. The original, like TOS, looks a bit dated now. However, I think the story line was solid and was fairly well done for a tv mini-series.

I ended up not watching any of the marathon. No major loss. I'm looking forward to the new "V" anyway.

Then having not watched the miniseries I would strongly advise against watching the marathon of the unremarkable regular series it spawned. Syfy is running that tomorrow, and I would bet they will run the rest on the next day. The regular series really came close to ruining the miniseries in my opinion.

^^ I saw that on the menu last night. Considering Syfy's tendency to re-air things, they will probably do another marathon of the mini-series/series. Especially if the new "V" hits it big. They will want to continue to capitalize off that interest.

This Monday, Syfy is airing episodes of "V" and then the 3 part mini-series that starts at 5:00pm. The episodes air earlier in the day.

Did y'all say the mini-series could be watched as a standalone from the series?

The mini-series comes first, and has an ending all its own.

Then they did the series some time later as continuation; the series was canceled so it really doesn’t have an ending.

The mini-series has a higher production value, then the series which seems they did on the cheap. I'd say it won’t be a problem if you miss the episodes as they aren’t that great; but if you can you should see the mini-series.

For some reason they split the mini-series into two parts; so I hope they are showing all of it. When I bought the DVD recently I didn’t know this so I bout "V the mini-series" thinking I was buying the whole thing. But it turned out that they had another box set with "V: The Final Battle" which is the ending of the mini-series. It’s as if it is two mini-series in one, but the first one does not have an ending.

They did end up showing the whole mini-series. From what I saw of the show and the mini-series, it looks like they tried to glam everything up with the costuming/hair/make-up for the series (screaming 80s). I liked the vibe of the movies more and I am looking forward to watching the whole thing. I'll have to look up the first half hour of the mini-series online though. I didn't catch that the mini-series was starting that early in the day. I thought it was more of the episodes.

^^^
They really went off the rails with the series. It originally aired in an 8 PM Friday evening time slot, if I recall correctly (believe me I tried to watch the series but it was hard to stomach), which is traditionally family hour programming. NBC clearly did not understand what they had or how to really aim it for the right audience.
