I've missed both "Life" and "Time" due to Thanksgiving holiday related stuff. I'd like to catch up with them when I have the time.

24, you're right on a number of levels about the Stones. Chaperones should have been the rule from moment one. Definite ethical issue regarding what happened between Telford/Young and Young's wife. I read that as a clear attempt to eventually generate an affair between Mrs. Young and Telford. I really do see the stones as nothing more than a plot device that the series should not have and does infact tie them very tightly to Earth. We've seen that communications can be disrupted at least momentarily, maybe an extended interruption is in order. Doubtful we'll get it, but it would be nice.
There was an added complication with the stones during this last episode (as it pertains to Young/his wife/Telford). I'll wait until you've seen "Life" before commenting on that.

I don't care much for their use of the communication stones. I know they're doing that so that there can be some connection back to Earth for plotlines. But it seems like a cheap trick.

Frankly, I'm just about ready to give up on this series. With the other Stargate series, we had situations where the characters could develop relationships to each other that led to humor and good-natured teasing that made the series fun. There's none of that here. This series seems full of characters who can't trust each other because most of the time they're stabbing each other in the back and lying. I realize that being stranded on an Ancient ship with no way to control it, without proper provisions, etc., all lead to dire circumstances and life-and-death situations, and that isn't conducive to having a fun atmosphere. But I watch TV to be entertained, and this show just isn't doing that for me yet.

And, yes, 24, I agree that the ending of the last episode made for some pretty interesting ramifications ... but I won't comment further and spoil it for anyone who hasn't yet seen the episode.

^^ I agree with you about the "cheap trick" of the communication stones. I too am struggling with this series. I just learned that SGU was picked up for Season Two. Maybe they will ditch the stones by then. Source

Please go ahead. This is a spoiler thread. If you want, you can give an initial heads up that you are going to talk about a specific episode.

OK, then .... SPOILER ALERT!

So at the end of that episode we have Col. Young abandoning Dr. Rush on a planet with a derelict alien ship. Then Destiny goes back into hyperdrive and strands Rush. No one has yet figured out how to control the Destiny ship, so obviously they're not going to go back to get him. And Col. Young probably wouldn't, even if they could, since he lied to everyone else the moment he stepped back onto the ship, saying that Rush got caught in a rockslide.

Young's actions are almost understandable to me, since Rush has lied to him before and then tried to frame him for murder. But I have little faith that anyone else but Rush is going to be able to figure out anything about how Destiny works (unless that guy who sat in the chair comes to again after having all the Ancient knowledge downloaded into his brain).

Like I said in the previous post, with the way that these characters lie to each other and back-stab, I'm just about disgusted enough to call it quits anyway. Except they have piqued my curiosity to see how Rush (very much a major character in this series) gets off that planet and reunites with the Destiny. It would be a terrible stretch to have him figure out how to jump-start a derelict alien spacecraft that appears to have crash-landed and pilot it to catch up with Destiny again.

About the only other person I can see figuring anything out on the ship is Eli.

However, for a genius he seems a bit stupid to me at times. So I don't have much faith in his abilities.

I absolutely don't think we've seen the last of Dr. Rush. Right now, it seems his only way back to the ship would be to get that alien ship to start working again.

I was just thinking. Do you remember that "thing" that appeared to be a ship break off the Destiny in the first episode? I wonder if that has anything to do with the ship that was crashed on the "Dr. Rush Planet"?

As far as Young's actions are concerned, I think since this is a quasi-military mission, he has added liberties to act in the best interest of the ship and its inhabitants since they are so far away from home. Abandoning Dr. Rush might still be a bit overboard though. Even though I can understand him being ticked off.

Then there are Young's previous actions with the communication stones. When he misrepresented himself to go after Telford for messing with his wife. That is more questionable behavior on his part.

I watched that one episode to see how Dr. Rush would get back into the series, after having been abandoned on a planet in the first season finale. But now the situation on the Destinty ship is becoming even more messy, convoluted, and distrustful. New power plays are bound to happen, and it looks like outright mutiny is inevitable. I'm really having a hard time keeping interested in this series. I like to watch TV to get away from coniving back-stabbing and lying.

I'm going to watch the episode soon, so I'll see what you are talking about in terms of the situation on board.

SGU is back on the schedule this Tuesday, October 5th at 9:00pm.

They will be airing the season one finale right before the season two premiere.

I officially stopped watching this series after about 9 episodes, but I will probably watch the two episodes mentioned above.

Yeah, I just can't get interested in watching this series again. I had recorded this season's first episode, and then eventually deleted it because all the other show previews I saw looked like a whole lot more of the back-stabbing, political-maneuvering power struggle that I didnt care for before.
