I saw this movie for the first time today. Really good old Sci Fi movie. LINK I can't believe I am now just seeing this movie. So much of it is familiar. Movies like this tend to become a part of popular culture, but you don't always know the origins until one day you say, "Ah-Ha"!

It starred Leslie Neilson (imagine that :wow:), Walter Pidgeon and Anne Francis.

The whole time I couldn't help but draw parallels to other movies (franchises) that came later.

Hyperdrive and the uniforms reminded me of Star Wars (the hats). The uniforms also reminded me of early TOS (The Cage era). Some of the uniforms that have leaked out from the upcoming XI movie actually look a little bit like the uniforms in this movie. The crew were from the "United Planets". When the crew changed speeds, they entered this energy protection chamber that looked just like a transporter (Trek).

The Special Effects were actually pretty advanced looking. The ray guns, the monster, the planet surroundings, the underground visuals of the energy mechanism built by the Krells.

The lingo was obviously 50s era though. The way the men wore their hats and the cut of the uniforms was 50s era too. Dated in that respect.

The plot was actually very engaging.

Robby the Robot. I love this guy! He was a cross between Data and a replicator.

Anyone else seen this movie?

I saw this movie a long time ago. I had once decided that I would see all the Sci-Fi flicks mentioned in the opening song of the Rocky Horror Picture Show. They really are all classics.

Did you notice how much Robbie the Robot resembles the robot from Lost in Space? Guess you can only do so much to a robot suit that some poor guy has to be inside.

They could be related...

Knowing studios penchant for recycling, it was probably the shell of the other robot.

I think the one from Forbidden Planet looks much more advanced though.

I just noticed that Forbidden Planet is going to air on TCM (Turner Classic Movies) this Friday at 2:45am. So set your DVRs and VCRs to stun! :D

It is also scheduled to air again in October (the 7th) at 8:00pm.

Robby the Robot was used in multiple films and television series. Often times with the same guy doing the voice.

That is a lot of on screen work. Amazingly, that work includes more recent films. He has a good agent. ;) :D

And since robots can't really "die", if that agent negotiated the right "back-end" deals for him, he should be set until the sun burns out... ;) :wow: :fixhalo: :whistle2:
