Don't ask me how, but somehow a film clip of this event made it into our local news (Denver) this evening. It piqued my interest, so I decided to see what I could find on the 'net. http://www.cheese-rolling.co.uk/the_event.htm Has anyone else ever heard of this cheese-rolling event? Apparently the object is to roll a wheel of cheese down a rather steep hillside and a number of competitors try to race down the hill after it. First one to the bottom wins the cheese. Given the steep grade, the cheese apparently isn't the only thing rolling downhill. The video clip I saw of this event reminded me of that very old opening scene from the old show "Wide World of Sports" that showed a ski jumper slipping and falling down the ski jump ramp, cartwheeling and tumbling off ... the scene that accompanied the words, "the pain of defeat." Ouch! Here's another link for more pics: http://www.bbc.co.uk/gloucestershire/conte...gallery.shtml?1 |

I hope people weren't too blue about losing the cheese rolling contest. |

I wonder if the competition could drive a wedge between any friendships? |

I wonder if any Swiss are invited to participate, or if you must be a U.K. citizen only? |

After seeing some of those competitors bouncing and rolling down the hill themselves, I think they're all crackers, and maybe there was a wine about the bumps and bruises. |
