Problems with the PM System?

Is anyone experiencing slowness when trying to gain access to the PM System?

Clicking on "Messages", opening PMs, sending PMs...

If you post at other sites (no need to mention them), mentally compare that speed to how it is accessing the system here. You mentioning those comparisons would be appreciated too.

I was experiencing PM System slowness the other day. I removed the Marquee and haven't experienced any since. However, another member has mentioned still experiencing this problem.

Edit: Also, if you could mention what Browser you are using...

I am the person who has noticed the slowness in the PM area. It's mostly upon trying to go into the PM area by clicking on either "Inbox" or "My Controls". I am using Firefox 2.0.

I haven't spent much time at any other site recently so I have no comparison there.

I find it's pretty fast here at the moment, and I'm using Internet Explorer at work. I'll test it form home later on Firefox.

I was experiencing slowness at another board today, while sending a PM. But sometimes it just has to do with how busy a server is, and there is probably not much we can do about it.

In general, I agree Mel. However, I had never noticed the PM area slowness at "that other site" but it has been pretty consistent for me here for quite awhile. So I think there is either some difference with this site or, more likely, some difference with which server we are on with Invision. I do know the servers are different between this site and the other unnamed one.

It could also be a browser difference though. I don't think I have ever come here with Internet Explorer so I will have to check that from home when I get a chance.

Edit:
On another note, this site as a whole seems faster to me today - just not the PM entrance.

Isabel,

I have not used the PM system today. But yesterday and the day before (I think I used it then) it was fine. BTW, do images in signatures tend to slow the PM system down? If so, please let me know. :)

Normally, I would say probably not. There would have to be some kind of strange file corruption or stray code floating around to throw that kind of whammy on the PM System. Or the image was so graphic intensive (massive file size) that it would affect other areas of the Board.

I have seen HTML code (and other kinds) inexplicably appear in profiles (on another Board) that messed up a person's profile/control area. The code would look similar to "<b></b>" (for example).

If there is a problem with an image in a Signature (or Avatar), it is more than likely to directly affect the threads themselves (e.g. with thread scroll).

At present there are no problems (with images or stray code) that I can tell. I'll do a quick check of everyone's profile tomorrow to make sure. I'll also check other areas of the Board to.

I am currently using IE7 and experiencing no problems with browsing the site or using the PM System.

I was having some trouble connecting with the site earlier today, but I am pretty sure that was a server problem. This could also explain the problems Intrepid experienced earlier as well.

We don't need file corruption--I've had that occur at home, and it ain't fun. Glad to hear that it seems to be working correctly.

Everything seems A.O.K. this morning too. For me at least.

Notice:

For those who may have tried to access the Board in the last hour or so, Server 8 (and 2) were down for a while.

Everything seems to be okay now. *fingers crossed*

Things seem to be working fine for me today too. I have only been here twice though and briefly both times.

And I as well. I just received a response to a PM I sent, so things are looking good! :)
