Mother Meki

In the series, there are three separate branches of human, despite there being a wide number of human and proto-human species walking about. These three branches are considered to be the 'sapients' or the civilizable species of human (which means we have higher-order sapience, aka we both have abstract self-awareness as well as concepts of superawareness):
Archaic Human: Homo neanderthalensis. The Neanderthal population circa 2145 AD is about 12,000, which is now considered to be the largest Neanderthal population in Earth history.
Common Human: Homo sapiens˛. You and me. Every human on Earth right now. Distinct from Homo sapiens, who apparently lacked behavioral modernity.
High Human: Homo eximius. Like Meki. Basically the pinnacle of biology, at which point the only way to be improved further is to be synthetic. This is partly because Eximi actually are partly synthetic. Meki's the first high human in history, having been born in 2082. Before then, there were other post-sapiens species and subspecies of human that have since re-engineered themselves to be Eximi or have skipped biology entirely and gone straight into transhuman/posthuman territory.
