Friday, July 14th 1998, 10:35 AM, London, Weather: Windy and cool, rain seems to be coming. SE--Henri and Lexi

George was sitting on a bench in central London, accompanied by his elder brother Edmund, who continued to pace, keeping a watchful eye for Henri and Lexi. "Where are they, Edmund?"George complained. "Wait patiently brother, they'll find their course,"Edmund said simply, although he himself was starting to get impatient. Looking up at a clock tower, he decided silently that if they weren't there by half an hour they'd (George and Edmund) leave.

"Do you have everything?"he suddenly asked George, who was snapped out of a reverie (or daydream) concerning porridge, Golden Snitches and an army of Aurors. "Oh, er...yeah,"George muttered, fumbling a map and address out of his pocket.

Lexi was walking slowly dragging her feet, she loved this kind of weather and she wanted to enjoy it whilst she could. "Just before it rains smells good." Her lips were formed in a half smile and her face looked relaxed.

Her father had given her permission to come but he also warned her against it "you may be in danger after you attend such a meeting, the ministry of magic won't take kindly to the nature of this." But he had also said "You are free to choose your sides and what you do." and so Lexi was on her way keeping and eye out for Henri, perhaps they would meet on the road.

After weeks of washing dishes, presenting burnt food to his grandma (mind you, she claims that they were 'perfect'), and turning down his friends' invitation for an all-boy's night out, Henri, together with his Uncle Rodolphus, wend his way to London, where the Clockwoods, Lexi, and he would meet.

The weather was dismal; it seems that raindrops will be pouring out of the sky at anytime. Then, there was the smell that is quite distinctive. The scent of warning--it'll be raining soon.

"Hurry, I don't fancy getting wet. This suit of mine is fairly new. Don' wanna ruin it!" Uncle Rodolphus yelled as they were running along the cobbled streets of London.

Henri snorted. His Uncle's suit isn't nearly as new as he claims. He had seen him wear it a hundred of times before. He even suspected that it was the only clothes in his Uncle's small closet.

"If we hadn't stop---" Henri began to retort, but bit his lip. It was his idea to connive with Rodolphus anyway. It was he who suggested to Frida that Rodolphus should come and see to it that his friends were really muggles and that they are decent-looking, in the least. His grandma won't allow him to go if they are wizards. 'I'm at peace if you're with Muggles,' she said.

So, he convinced his Uncle to play a role in his plan. His Uncle knows details about this event-- where it will be held, whom he's going with, and why he's attending. The old man was excited about the plan, but refuses to do it for free. Henri Playton actually paid him 5 Galleons to go with him and say something that would make Frida less worried about his 4-day trip.

They continued to dash towards the clock tower. They're late, and the rain will fall down in any minute. They streaked past shops, loud vendors, and hagglers, and bystanders. He doesn't even bother to pay anyone the slightest attention. His eyes were glued to his Uncle Rodolphus, who was wearing a faded, checkered, blue suit. He could see the tower ahead. They're getting nearer, and nearer, and nearer until he could finally see George's figure.

Henri halted in front of his friend and his companion. He placed his hands on his knee and was catching up his breath.

"Sorry, mate," he panted.

Henri looked up and saw that his Uncle was still running. The old man then slowed down, apparently distracted by a pretty woman on the street. His uncle even stopped to chat.

"Uncle, over here! Henri yelled and waved his hand above his head.

Rodolphus heard him, turned his head towards the boy, and nodded. After that, Henri's uncle returned to talking to the lady, who seemed pleased with Rodolphus.

Henri shook his head, and said to George, "My uncle, old as he is, has this talent with women. They couldn't resist him, see, though I'm not really sure why."

He looked at George's companion, held out his hand, and introduced himself.

"Henri Playton. I assume you're one of the Clockwoods?"

The young boy was quick to notice that Lexi wasn't there. Hope she's coming, he prayed desperately. This trip won't be as exciting as he hoped if the girl isn't with them.

George grinned when Henri said his uncle had talent with women, but his figure was soon blocked by Edmund, who stepped forward, shook Henri's hand and said in a solemn voice, "Salutations,
Henri of clan Playton. Indeed I am one of the glorious House of Clockwood, and I am one of George's brothers. I hope I find you well?".

George, too, had now stepped forward, an unclear expression on his face as he nodded. However, unlike Edmund (whose attention was solely focused on Henri and his uncle), he was looking around for Lexi, having a passing feeling that she was a good reason for Henri to come along and suddenly smirking.

Lexi hurried on as fast as she could wishing she was there already, she had her book bag with her which added wieght but Lexi didn't go anywhere without it.

She looked up and grinned seeing Henri and George there were also two men with them she wondered who they were.

"Hello." She said coming up and joining them "And these men are?"

Henri was mildly surprised when George's brother came forward and shook his hand. It wasn't because he had forgotten to mention his name, or rather Henri hadn't asked for it, but his way of speech. He should have expected that the Clockwoods talk alike--formal and somewhat medieval, just like his pal, George.

"I hope I find you well?"

Henri flashed a devious smile, look around (to check if his Uncle was still chatting with the younger lady, and await for Lexi to appear from somewhere), and replied, "I'm good, thank you. And how should I call you, by the way? I didn't get your---"

He was suddenly distracted by a figure of a young lady, who walked towards the group and cheerfully greeted them.

"Hello. And this men are?"

"I'm Henri," he said jokingly, "and this is George's brother, and George, whom you already know, of course...."

He was again in the gates of bliss. He had anticipated for this moment, and now it's beginning to take place. This day could never go wrong.

((Rodolphus is somewhat three meters away from Henri. He was busy talking to someone whom he had met earlier.))

George and Edmund looked at each other for the briefest of seconds, and grinned to themselves. Edmund said, "I am Edmund, son of Harold." to Henri before turning to Lexi. He took a deep bow and said, "Hello, fair dame. As I have just said, I am Edmund son of Harold. What is your name?"to her. George smiled at Lexi, and bowed as well, although it was not nearly as long as Edmund's.

He said to Henri, "Is your uncle coming with us? Because we may not have room for him at the manor due to our fellow kinsmen from far off, although the situation won't be as bad as the disastrous Congress of 1860--some of the clanspeople at that time had to sleep in holes.". He also glanced at Rodolphus for a second to check if he was still conversing with the woman.

Lexi grinned at George and Henri "I know who you are I was talking about them."

"Hello, fair dame. As I have just said, I am Edmund son of Harold. What is your name?"

Lexi blushed a little when he and George bowed, not many people did that nowadays.

"I'm Lexi Stevens, student at Hogwarts and supporter of your cause, nice to meet you."

She looked over at the man who seemed to be talking to a woman and said to Henri "Do you know him?"

Henri's eyes were upon his Uncle, who was now obviously flirting with the lady vendor, while the others were busy introducing themselves. As the two began to cloyingly show their attraction towards each other (they were now pinching each other's noses and his Uncle was running his wrinkly fingers through her soft shiny hair), the Hufflepuff boy heard George's comment, but his friend's voice seemed to be coming from afar.

"Is your uncle coming with us? Because we may not have room for him at the manor due to our fellow kinsmen from far off, although the situation won't be as bad as the disastrous Congress of 1860--some of the clanspeople at that time had to sleep in holes."

Holes... A rat hole in their house, just a few steps away from the right foot of his small bed, swam in his mind. He then imagined himself inside the rat's haven, eating rotten cheese...

"Do you know him?"

The foul-smelling cheese was consumed by a rather giant rodent. He snapped his attention back to the group beside him.

"Yes, that's my Uncle Rodolphus. He's supposed to meet all of you and tell my grandmother what wonderful muggle friends you all are. But, it seems that he's too preoccupied with fresh fruits..."

He didn't suppress a snicker. He couldn't help but admire his Uncle's skillfulness in engaging with women. Sometimes, the young Hufflepuff wish that he has the same gift, too.

He looked at George, and grinned. "You wouldn't want to bring him along. I wouldn't want him with us. He's..."

What is his uncle, anyway?"

"...He's complicated. He contradicts almost everything that he says and he can be extremely annoying, too. He often insists that he's right and all the people around him are wrong. Though sometimes, he can be really cool..."

He subtly wet his lips with his tongue before asking to the crowd, "So, how are we going to get there?"

"I see. Well, I guess we wouldn't find him too much trouble...the only problem I see with him coming is a lack of accommodation."George said, scratching his head. "And to answer your second question, Henri, I've got a portkey."Edmund said, pointing at a burnt-out tire across the street.

"Fetch your uncle my friend, as I've told you earlier at Hogwarts we've got to get there before we run out of room,"George said, suddenly sounding brisk. Edmund said, "I've got to go and help father and Siward set up the Great Hall. I'll meet you all there.", then walked over to the portkey. He kicked the tire, and vanished with a flash.

George said, "Well, if there's nothing I need to do here..."he walked over to the portkey, bowed to Lexi and Henri again, and kicked the portkey, disappearing as well.

He reappeared several hundred miles away, at a green lawn. Looking up at Godwin manor, an enormous old castle with dozens of red and gold standards put up all over its colorful roof, across a creek he turned around, sat on a large rock and waited for the others.

Lexi followed the boys' conversation and sniggered when Henri explained about his uncle "What a character. Sure wouldn't want to be around him, lucky Henri isn't like him."

She watched as George and Edmund disappeared through the portkey and then walked over looking at it cautiously. She grinned and looked over at Henri "'Well, shall we?"

The boy watched as two of his new friends kicked the burnt tire across the street and vanished in a flash without attracting any unwanted attention from muggles (mind you, they could be easily detected and punished for breaking the 'Wizarding Secrecy Statute').

He caught Lexi's eye as she uttered, "Well, shall we?"

A grin flickered across his face as he nodded. He looked at his Uncle to bade goodbye, but it seemed that Rodolphus eyes were fixed on only one thing-- the beauty of a grown woman. He clucked his tongue thrice to grab his Uncle's attention even for a second (that's how they communicate with each other), but the old man had temporarily gone deaf.

Resolved that his Uncle would never even bother to glance at him, Henri shook his head and said to Lexi, "Let's go. He won't notice that we're gone. Come off it, he might have forgotten why he's here in the first place."

Unconsciously, he grabbed Lexi's hand to lead her to the place where the rubber tire has been patiently waiting for them.

[ooc]Lexi, I do give you permission to slip your hand out of Henri's, or slap him in the face. Note that it was an unintentional move.[/ooc]

[[lol Lexi wouldn't slap without a real cause.]]

Lexi looked over at Henri's uncle, "What a man to have to live with." she shook her head slightly and glanced over at Henri, thank god he wasn't like that.

She looked down at Henri took her hand and begain leading her towards the tire. She blushed and took her hand back feeling a little unsure if they should be doing that right now, she did want her relationship with Henri to progress but she had a hard time letting boys in because of Keith.

George continued to wait. He got up, and began to stride around, thinking of the celebrations, and the (to him, inevitable) war that would soon break out between his clan and the Ministry. In the end, the thinking had left him so agitated that he decided to leave without waiting for Lexi and Henri. He turned around, and started walking slowly towards the manor.

[ooc]Quite understandable, really[/ooc]

The dainty hand he had accidentally held slipped out from his grasp. Henri's heart dropped on to his stomach, and he felt his face burn. He felt slightly ashamed of himself; what must she be thinking of him right now???

How could you let it happen? A small voice with an accusatory tone rang inside his head.

I didn’t do it on purpose! It’s not as if I was making advances on her! The other voice said, defensively.

But, you still enjoyed it, didn’t you? You liked the warmth of her hand; the comfort and joy it brings. Too bad, she’s not up for it.

So, what if I liked it? She’s—It just…. It’s just that she’s uncomfortable…

But, before they could reach the portkey, Henri bent down and pretended to tie his shoelace. The truth is he just needed to borrow some time to compose himself. He was embarrassed, yes. But, he knew she knows that the act was without any malice.

He must not feel dejected. It was a normal reaction, although he had to admit that he would have preferred her not withdrawing her hand from his.

The young boy breathed deeply. As he stood up, a smile was already plastered upon his face.

”Do you think we’ll be sleeping in holes?” – he asked as casually as he could – “Mind you, I should’ve brought my tent.”

And he was himself again.

Henri halted. The tire was just inches away from his feet.

”On the count of three…” he said, resisting the urge to hold her hand again.

”One—two—three!”

Henri kicked the graying rubber. Instantly, his body was lifted off the ground, and he was dangling in the midst of swirling colors, traveling at great speed. One of his feet magnetically attached on the tire; blood rushed to his face; he felt nauseated, and was terrified that he’ll plummet into nothingness.

A few seconds after, he hit the ground with a thud. Good thing, it was, that he brought his hands forward before he fell; it had prevented him from falling face first.

He pushed himself up, and stood, his face pale. Henri felt dizzy and slightly disoriented.

It took a few moments before he could discern where they were. For one wild moment, he imagined that they were back at Hogwarts: the green lawn, the towering castle, and the air of magic. But, they couldn’t have apparated at their school’s ground; it was impossible, as clearly stated in Hogwarts: A History.

His eyes searched for Lexi and George, hoping that he landed at the right place.

George heard the thud that announced Henri's arrival in the manor grounds, and hurried back to see if his friend had made it in one piece. Once seeing Henri on the ground, he breathed a sigh of relief and said loudly, "Welcome, my friends to--hey, where's Lexi?", suddenly confused. "Is she still back at London?". A sudden thought had come to him; what if, by chance or mistake, Death Eaters had arrived at London? George flinched for a few seconds, but quickly regained his composure and asked Henri, "Er...were you two, I don't know, in the middle of something important back there?".

A figure from far was coming towards him. He couldn't determine who it was at first, for the sun's light was slightly blinding him. He stared hard, allowing his eyes to adjust to the new environment, and a few heartbeats after, his face broke into a grin. He recognized who it was: George Clockwood.

"Welcome, my friends to--hey, where's Lexi? Is she still back at London?"

Henri's smile vanished. He doesn't have any idea as to where Lexi has gone.

He looked around, but found no Lexi.

"I dunno where she is... She's--I mean, she was there while we're traveling..." he replied quite hesitantly.

Then, an unbidden thought came into his mind: What if something wrong has happened to her???

He shook his head, trying to erase the negative thought.

The young man bit his lip and looked around again, trying to remain calm, to comfort himself into thinking that she'll just somewhere, hiding for fun.

His bright blue eyes scanned the area. There were trees swaying gently; a creek where water flows steadily; a large rock; an enormous castle of which its roof was laden with red and gold standards; and George's friendly face. But, still, there is no Lexi.

His heart dropped. He would be responsible if something unfortunate had occurred. He should have held her hands; ensure that they'll be arriving together, unharmed...

He should have...

"Er...were you two, I don't know, in the middle of something important back there?"

Henri was slightly distracted by George's question. Could you call a second's holding of hands important?

Yes.

"No," was his curt reply.

He didn't elaborate. There is no need; George will figure it out himself. Right now, something more serious is pressing on his mind: where is Lexi?

Nothing will be achieved if they're just going to stand up and wait for her to appear.

"Let's go look for her. She might have landed somewhere in the woods."

Henri jerked his head to the place where the trees were gathered, and started to run. They need to find her immediately!

"Hey, wait up!"George cried, sprinting to catch up with Henri. "It's the White Forest--there are white, hollow trees around the center of the forest. I'm not sure whether or not the trees have been painted, but the forest's a resting place for fallen soldiers and captains from the numerous wars we have fought against our distant kin."he explained hastily, wiping sweat from his brow. "I don't think anyone would want to go there, it's very easy to get lost."he added.

Lexi waited a little bit after Henri left before she approached the tire..she wanted to give him a little time as he must have been uncomfortable as she was. "Yuu're to afraid to take chances."
Lexi glared at the tire "So what if I am?" this was only part of her screen, she wished she could just dive into something with Henri but she was afraid to trust again. She sighed and kicked the tire, the sensation was horrid.

When she landed Lexi lay on the ground for a few minutes trying to catch her breath. "I never want to do that again." She stood up slowly and looked around seeing two firgures in the distance "Why didn't they wait for me?" She hurried to catch up yelling loudly "Hey wait up."

Henri sprinted towards the group of large trees. He heard George's explanation as to why nobody would want to be in the White Forest, but could one choose where he will get lost?

He stopped slowly to catch his breath. He was clutching a stitch on his side, and was panting when he thought he heard Lexi's voice.

He looked at the pathway leading to the heart of the Forest. Henri couldn't see anyone in there.

He turned his head to speak with George when his eye caught something, or rather someone! There, running in the field, was Lexi!

"Lexi!" Henri cried weakly. He was so grateful to see her that he started to approach her.

He restrained himself from hugging her. It wasn't appropriate. Instead, he smiled and said, "Where have you been? We thought--I mean, I assumed-- that you were lost. If you hadn't appeared sooner, we could've gone to the White Forest."

He grinned, relieved to have Lexi with them again. He turned to George and said, "so, where are your folks?"

George sighed in relief when he saw Lexi get into sight. Wiping sweat off his forehead, he said, "They're probably up at the Manor. Father's probably making preparations for the rebellion, Mother's probably helping Siward and Edmund get the place cleaned up and my younger siblings are goofing off, I guess."he explained. Then, checking his watch, he said, "Well, let's go shall we?". He began to stride towards the Manor, a little nervously; he had only gone here once, and still deemed the residence of his clan's head sacred ground.

George began to pick up the pace, and he reached the castle's door within a few minutes. Two menacing guards, clad in plate mail and wielding axes that were as long as a grown man is tall, bowed to George and said, "Master Clockwood, your good kin are helping the Prince and his servants set the place up.". George nodded nervously, while the guards barked at Henri and Lexi, "And who're you two?". George said quickly, "They're my good friends, and I've invited them here.".

The two guards opened the enormous and perfectly polished oak doors, but kept a very wary eye on Henri and Lexi; one of them muttered under his breath, "I don't trust them Anglo-Normans...and I doubt I ever will,"as he stepped off to the side.

George slowly strode inside, as if savoring every step he took in the castle. The entrance hall was enormous, and stretched for about 20 feet; near the end, a rather short young man in black and green robes, marked with a sword-and-serpent coat of arms, was leaning against the marble wall and was smoking a pipe, which had the oddly pleasant scent of burning strawberry gum. George said, in a rather wary voice, "Salutations, Young Salisbury...where's you father, the Duke?".

Young Salisbury responded in a deadpan, emotionless voice, "He's helpin' yer uncle, Norwich's herald an' shieldbearer. Where's yer mum an' dad, Young Sussex? And who's yer pretty friend?"he added; he had started upon noticing Lexi. He immediately strode over to her, took what he must have thought was a flattering bow and said to her, "Hey, pretty girl, what're you doin' in this castle?".

George turned and said, "Lexi, this is my kinsman William Montacute, eldest son and heir of Thomas VI Montacute, 23rd Duke of Salisbury and a vassal of Ecgfrith, duke of Essex.". He added in an undertone, "You'll have to forgive his rather discourteous behaviour, he's always like this around the ladies...maybe that's why he has zero success with them throughout his life,". William completely ignored him, having eyes and ears for no-one but Lexi.
