It has got to stop.. There ar egeneral good topic on CC bu the spam in them is what puts me off and Im sure it puts others off. At the minute I see one guy who is spamming all the time and nothing is be done about it. I Think that the spam issue needs to be resolved before any new features of CC are introduced. If not, the spam will carry on to the new parts. Is there a way that spammers can be PM'ed by staff with an unoffical warning or something? Or anyone else got solutions? |

The problem is these are your Com mods Rory Stephen Christina T Jay Zach Dan Sam Aaron 8 of us in charge of Discussion Graphics PM advertising Topic Movement and if we choose we can help with support in free time. The problem is we can't pm every member some days. Some days it gets hectic just to keep the peace. Especially when only 1 or 2 of us are on. You bring up a good point though about spam. I'll post my next discussion topic tomorrow which relates to this, but for now I'd like to read everyone's opinions on how to fix this. |

Maybe some undercover staff is needed then People appointed by seth to keep track on a daily basis of who is doing the majority and he or a member of staff can PM the member. |

I need to add my 1cent to this discussion. I think, people spam, because they think it would fast track them to being staff (Which is apparently not true, looking at some of the members with many posts) So they will be thinking "OMG I WANNA BEEE STAAF HERE! MUST SPAM!" hence the spamming. I say the mods put a stop to anyone not posting constructive posts (With the exception of R&G) by simply deleting the post. No questions asked. Opinions? |

Brandon hates deleting posts and splitting is a nightmare for most of us. Hence why I think there is so much. Rest assured when we have our trash can for deleted stuff, I guarentee I'll be hitting that delete button |

Dedicated members can already do that. Personally I find the need to organise people who are apparantly committed to the community to be far from effective, and it shows a lack of intuition. Members don't need to stalk users, per se, but if someone knows that a member is spamming then they're free to report them. Alternatively, if a member suspects that a user may be a constant spammer then they can contact us and, if we can, we'll keep on their tale. I do this a lot. Once I have a suspect I keep on their tail for an hour or so, see what they're up to and read through their posts just to check. It can be good for rooting out the potential spammers. Unfortunately, there's only a limited supply of mods and vast numbers of members. So yeah, we can't get everyone but we can deal with a certain amount of users.I'm always happy to have reports of spammers - or potential spammers - sent to me. Keeps me busy. ![]() I supose, instead of organising a group to do it, we could launch some sort of 'Community Watch' idea. Just basically explain to people that we want to keep the community alive and happy, and in order to do so everyone has to do their bit. Highlight the importance of reporting issues and spam, of not baiting people (intentionally or accidentally), etc. I dunno, something that could make everyone feel like they're a part of the community so they feel good about themselves, about being a member and about keeping it clean. If you have pride in something then you're far more likely to help out. I always notice that the best communities are the ones that are closest, where members take pride in the forum and their participation, and understand that they are significant but not above others. Or maybe I'm just dreaming. Would be nice though. Community pride and all that jazz. |

Maybe brandon needs to appoint more staff and make it so they only mod in one section instead of a whole lot. make it so they only deal with things from their forum if that is possible. it might take a load off the mods and give them more time to fix things like spam. eg have like 3 mods in cc 3 mods in support and so on. they can still mod in other sections but their main job is to sort out their section first

Technically we all have our special forums we hang out in. I live in CC. Jay and Luna are in Graphics etc. So specific mods won't really help. More staff doesn't really solve the problem. But tis a start. |

I like what Jay is on about. Yea, it would probally be usefull if you guys would post somewhere that PM'ing a staffmember to report spam or something like that is not a bad thing. (And if somebody could ad in something like Seth's hint that doing docs could improve your chances of becoming staff, people would remember it. (even if reporting doesn't improve your chanses..) ) |

I HATE pming staff, on IRC i dont mind, but sending a PM is a whole different kettle of fish. i also get the impression alot of the time that mods dont like us linking them to topics ect. Ive been watching one guy now for 2 days, he spams non stop and at this stage i wanna kill him. I'm sure I'm not the only one who dislikes PM'n staff, and pages like Yodas, which im sure prevent spam for him, would frighten me off if i didnt know him from IRC. if that oesnt make sense, its cause its 5am |

no worries, seth and i made the pm agreement page less scary for if2. but we don't mind. we just can't always say thank you every time. And really with a link and explanation its less then a minute out of a day. doesn't bother me at all. |

Maybe you should try to make that clearer to the whole community, add it into the rules/pm page. |

That presents a problem. =/ I'm not entirely sure why you think we don't like receiving PMs, but we don't ignore them. In fact, I appreciate them, and we usually encourage them. *nods* If you don't PM us, and say there's no one online on IRC, what do you do? ![]() I assume you don't backseat mod, cos you're a good lil Kez, right? ![]()
Didn't we used to have it in the rules? I see we don't, or at least not in the main rules. Hmm. Deffers something that should be put in. The 'Don't PM staff for tech support' might mislead some people into thinking they can't PM us at all.

At a risk of sounding stupid: Can someone give me 10 links to spam (by people who aren't banned). I admit it does happen, but I don't see it going on a whole lot. |

No I don't backseat Mod, I normally know someone will find it. but then if there sno one in IFC the chances are there is no-one online at IF. If its something really bad like abuse i will PM and I have done before (to you actually and you sent a lovely thank you )

For me, not possible (unless I stumble across some that isn't too bad) because I usually split it and trash it. =/ If we could show you the trash can you'd find 3 pages of spam from this week alone, 29,892 topics altogether (not all spam, mind). Sometimes there isn't much but other times there's a large amount. It varies from day to day.
![]() I try to say thank you whenever I can, so members feel good about it. It'd be great to have some sort of PM multi-topic moderation we could customise so we can respond to mass PMs with ease. But I'm lazy so. Just out of curiosity, would some sort of report system help (for topics)? Y'know, like the Report Post button? |

Yeah i think a report system would be good but would it be abused? While there are members you can trust to use it, there will be lots that will abuse it <_< And dont do a PM multimod, those things are worse than getting no PM at all! |

Yeah, we'd see abuse, but that could be controlled by adding a new board rule and issuing warns for abuse. A report abuse system would be easier and simpler than sending a PM for lazy members. |
