Ok everyone, I'm going to share with you the game ideas I posted in the staff lounge and let you give me feedback on these as well as suggest new ones. Exteme Makeover had a great turnout. And several final products were very impressive. Do we dare do a member edition? How would it work? Thoughts on that appreciated. IF Trivia- Meh. I swear I've beaten this game to death. And they still want more. I'm running out of questions! Though the IRC trivia I've been doing for fun seemed well recieved so maybe if we branch it out to a more Jeopardy! like gameshow it would work. Another IF Surivivor/Big Brother etc. - Over my DEAD body. Stump the Staff- The concept was good. The execution was a flop. If someone wants to help me refine it, I'd be up to letting members do that again. IF Big Brother- Its time consuming finding scenery. But it was fun. Maybe a similiar comic that other members can add too like the IF signature A Hero and Villian Draft- I'll have more on this. I'm refining the idea and will need help but basically like a fantasy football make a team out of heros and villians from comics movie tv etc (Yoda, Superman, Professor X, Batman, Gandalf, Harry Potter etc.) I'll need help thinking who to put on a list from movies. Prizes- We got nothing. Suggest REASONABLE prize ideas. A more tournament type game. Much more intense. If we did a battke of the boards, which would garner up to 30 or more players, I think game bans would be interesting to institute. On another forum I frequent they give little 24 hour bans when you lose. The only thing I don't like about that is this is a Support Board, but with tickets, I dunno. Obviously staff couldn't play in any tournament type game. I think that's everything. Any new game ideas? Any suggestions etc. Plop em here. |

Prizes - I really think a simple "You are the winner," signature is just as good as any flashy prizes to gather a moderate group of participants. Granted, if there were to be something more valuable given, like a domain, perhaps there would be an even larger turnout. However, I'd prefer there wasn't money involved. What about some type of special team icon for a week or something for specific games? As for a kind of game, (I doubt this would be a good idea :P) Somewhat of a (humorous?) caption contest, only in a tournament style as you mentioned. There will be matchups of two people (or more depending) and each "Match," is assigned an image to caption. Use a panel of judges to determine the winner. The captions and images can be sent back and forth via PM (to and from a designated person) to keep the public mess down to one thread. In said thread, results can be posted including the results of each match. (Including the image and captions submitted.) The 1st place (and possibly other positions such as 2nd and 3rd place) winner gets a signature and bragging rights? (Or any prize really.) Feel free to add on to that if you feel it is even a reasonable idea. (Images for captioning can easily be found via Google Images.) |

Staff submit for members. Only those members who properly fill out an application form (PMed to Stephen or posted) will be able to participate.
*Potter wubs IF Trivia. I know I've already talked to you a little about this, and I think it's a superb idea. The only worry I have is time zone differences for competitors unless you set a certain amount of hours for participants to PM the answers to you or something along the lines of that. Another IF IRC Trivia would also be nice, though I know you want to revert back to the old forum style. ![]()
Please. I'm seriously begging you. InvisionFree: The Mole. It's perfect! I'll even plan it for you. (Well, not plan it but assist on some key elements if needed.)
It was well-planned. It was just something that didn't have anything happen after the outcome. A refined finish could add a nice spin to a new STS edition.
Could the other staffers help you find scenery? Maybe a comic short comic for April Fool's Day? Also, I think the IF Big Brother comic completed this summer could be a very good activity increaser in June or so. I know you're short on time most days, so that's why I'm suggesting summer 2006.
*Potter has no idea what any of those words and their correlations meant. *Potter waits for new post about that. ![]()
Banners? Post increases?
*Potter likes the idea. What if you 'banned' the staff by placing them in a user group where they could only access the tickets and staff forums? I think a forum-wide 'easter egg hunt' for April where easter egg images are hidden throughout the board would be fun. All members (and maybe even staff) could hunt for the eggs. I know this would done in IF Survivor, but that was a while back, and most current, active members don't remember it, I bet.

If you want the mole, draw up plans, run them by me, I'll run them by Seth, and YOU can run the whole thing. For an idea of what a draft is. Check out this one: http://boards.theforce.net/Message.aspx?to...&start=22569197 The game starts there. It just ended. The rest are draft picks. My team came in third place.

IF Trivia is the best ever. Also having members do it isn't a bad idea. This can be arranged. I would love to help with that. I think it could be phenomanal, and oh, do I have ideas :shifty:. Meh. After people are chosen then what? Battel of the boards is ok, but you're sure to get flaming from those who lose. Oh the ideas. I'd like to see a game where things where hidden in boards source codes (nothing that alters the boards) and you have to find the board, then the hidden thing, then crack a code. Kinda' like Brians thing except easier. I think RHTC is a good idea just too hard. And if you involved other board it would be great. Let's see what else do I have ... Oh you could alter the IF Support at certain times, and the first person to figure out what was altered wins (things like moving forums. moving links, changing text color). Um .... How about a 'find the board'? The staff give out clues about a board they have, then the member has to find the URL. Such as: 'This board like's pink' and the URL is to a Rory board with a pink skin. What else ... Oh IRC games. Say something at ~12pm, and then users have to find logs, it'd increase activity. And um ... Oh, add and remove smilies and see who gets it first, The first person to get it gets their smiley up for a week. I'm sure I got more ideas. |

The changing color isn't really a good idea. Some of us. I think me and brandon are both color blind. Like me. I see red and green almost the same, and blue and purple (though that is less then red and green). So changing colors of something isn't a good idea. |

Or maybe we could close the General Support forum for a while, and see how many complain. the 3.2664x10235th person to complain gets a prize. Or maybe not. Seriously though, I like the Battle Of The Boards idea. Smithster (was that his name.. I seem to remember a staff member named Smithster. Maybe I'm just losing it) was going to run one of those ages ago... never happened. I think that'd be a great idea. |

Will do, sir. :spaz: ------------------- I love the Battle of the Boards idea.
RHTC is not that hard; it just involves applying clues and using your brain. Come on, Das; you can do it.
That's not actually a bad idea, though I'm not sure if it could be made into a final, useable product. Tach's board locator could help this, but I don't know how the clues could be totally incorporated and still make the game hard.
I think the only thing like this that would work would be changing the skin or something. |

Although IRC games are nice, and I do wub the IRC channel, I really think that we need more board games, since we're talking about Community Chat. Board games are more visible and easier to access; plus they aren't as demanding schedule-wise. A caption contest idea sounds cool. I'm all for Member Makeover, but while having staff submit it is a good idea, I'm not sure we should put such a burden on only staff (if that's not what you meant, just go back to ignoring me then ). Because I know that I probably wouldn't have the [time | motivation | skill | confidence] to adequately participate in such a contest.

InvisionFree Mole. I'd love that. It would be awesome. Maybe picking a series of members and asking questions and the Mole has to try and muck up the questions or something like that? IF Makeover member edition would be awesome too and I would watch and might even join in.

Maybe we could have an arcade, with an arcade discussion forum in comm chat. On other foums I've worked at, it can be quite fun with the members trying (and failing) to beat staff high scores. |

I like that idea, but it would give a fake idea of what comes with your forum. Like with the default CSS skin. It's not changed because then people will not get what they think. I think the IF support forums are a "What you see, is what you get". Unless I am wrong? |

Well maybe IF should have an arcade then? It wouldn't be hard, just implement it into the files. Or maybe a "click here to get this arcade on your forum" button within the arcade with a link to the code. |

Don't get your hopes up an arcade. Tachyon, I meant staff in addition to members. I know certain staff wanted to submit for other staff in the game. I would certainly encourage the more graphically apt like rory to submit one or two items for mmbers so there is at least one or two staff submissions. I am sick of IRC games. They should be something to do just for fun, but not as scheduled as forum games have to be. I will bring back IF trivia soon enough. And I may ask for member imput. After all it was a member that made the game in the first place ![]() If you read the link I posted above on a draft, here is a rough outline I typed out a few weeks ago on what I want. How about the IF Treasure Hunt? Kinda like RHTC, but you don't check in with Brian along the way. Everyone is given the first clue in a topic, which will lead them to the next clue, and the next, etc etc for about say 20-25 clues (or another reasonable number, not too high as that will be too boring and not too low as it will end too quickly) and the winner will get a prize, whatever that may be. Their own emote, for example. Members would love that. Something so small, but they'll use it so often. |

Indeed one of the biggest factors in any decision on the IF Support board is that it remain an official support board before it becomes anything else. The balancing act between official support and community and all-encompassing board is difficult, but thus far has been kept well in control. They just have to be careful not to stretch too far, which is why adding an arcade would most likely not be added to the board. Of the ideas presented within this topic, I love the Treasure Hunt idea. Members seem to enjoy it when I've seen it done and it's relatively simple to set up. Others that I think would appeal are the tournament-style Caption Contest and the Extreme Makeover. As for prizes, that becomes questionable ground...

Over my dead body. If IF gets an acrade I'm hunting down Brandon and beating him with a fish until he removes it. Acrades are the dumbest thing ever. They slow down the board, they're pointless since you can just go to an arcade site and play the games, it's a board not an arcade, umm ... oh and you get dumb people posting: "OMG I gotorz a hihghgh score !!1@!22!@121". |
