Welcome to Hogwarts Interactive Role Play, one of the net's best in Harry Potter and Hogwarts role plays. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Here at Hogwarts our students are currently in their Seventh Year. Last year, the war against the Knights crescendoed into a direct attack against the school. Disappearances are still reported (or not) daily, and the Dark Lord and his Knights of Walpurgis have succeeded in spreading their message of "do as thou will" far and wide across the globe. Magical Law Enforcement, which is now the only authority in the wizarding world under Martial Law, has responded by tightening security, controlling the media, and strictly enforcing curfews and other laws. Their control is damaging to the people's freedom, and their hierarchy is a suspicious lot. It is clear that some members of the MLE like their new found power a bit too much, others see it necessary, but all are in serious danger of being consumed by it. But with the picture of just what Azariah Amaranth is after becoming ever clearer, and a third player in the form of a group called SAVIOR entering the scene, what will the MLE do next to ensure that they've got the situation under control?

The Elementium, the Higher Plane that had once been hidden just beyond the veil in the Department of Mysteries, and the Deathly Hallows. The pieces of the puzzle have been identified, but what picture do they make?

Today is Day 1 of Year Seven. Students have had time to recover from the Knight's attack, and are beginning to reluctantly return to the walls of Hogwarts. The safety of the school has been diminished, bringing up the question everyone must ask. Are you safe anywhere these days? It's up to each individual to decide their fate, where will you decide to go?

Opal bit her lip. She was excited. There was a list! There was a definite.
Then again, if it was a definite, than she.....had no clue what the heck to do next.
"P-Professor......l-like I-I said b-before," she answered carefully. "I....I'm a muggleborn. M-my whole f-family is-s muggle. E-even my older s-sister, Henry. But...." . Opal took a deep breath. Why was she so dang self-concious? It was her teacher, for goodness sakes! "I-I h-have a-a younger s-sister. H-her n-name's Eirin. L-lately, things h-have b-been h-happening-g around-d her. L-like this s-summer. She got i-into a b-bit o-of a t-tangle w-with s-some b-boys who were cornering a young g-girl, a-and all o-of a s-sudden, the b-boys were o-on the ground, clutching their a-arms, l-like she had-d shocked them-m or s-something. A-and then there a-are the amount o-of t-times she ends-s up-p on-n the roof....no e-explanation. I-I'm certainly n-no expert-t, b-but it-t s-seems an awful l-lot like accidental-l mag....magic t-to me. Professor H-hicks, she's-s had-d three close c-calls this-s summer where s-someone's gotten her mad and all of a sudden something-g happens, a-and the muggle i-in question starts-s asking questions. I-I'm r-really s-scared s-somethings going-g to h-happen, but-t...." . She shook her head. "I d-don't know h-how t-to f-fix it. A-and Mom a-and Dad certainly c-can't t-tell. I-I've talked t-to Henry, b-but she's a muggle, i-in N-new York, a-and p-planning a wedding," At this point, she was close to tears. What if no one could do anything? What if Eirin got hurt somehow?

Hufflepuff's Chief Mischief Maker

Freya watched the odd exchange with interest. Professor Baker had always carried the air of someone not to be trifled with, but there was something in the way he seemed to want to wind up Professor Hicks that gave a whole new outlook on him. She was sure he was enjoying watching her best friend squirm under his gaze, an observation which had her plotting her own entertainment in her mind.

It was then that she saw Opal's tears, and her mischievous grin faded to a worried frown. "Why hadn't you said anything before?!" she asked her gently, looping an arm through her friends. "There's all kinds of books about this in the Library, we could go tonight and have a look if you like? I was curious when I first got here and spent days in there reading everything I could get my hands on." She looked up to Professor Hicks, hoping for more information to help cure her friends tears.

Auror | DADA Teacher | Head of MLE

After straining his patience to let the girl stammer through her sentence, Brock's curiosity was slightly piqued due to the nature of her question. It was easy to forget he wasn't exactly an Auror anymore, because that's what he'd likely always consider himself to be, if only secondarily to the MLE title nowadays. He did, however, recall a few instances when the Head of Use of Magic Office had bugged him with one request or another, and Baker had even tried to utilize their resources in tracing down Amaranth's underage sheep; sadly without much success. All in all, with the ministry in tatters, Magical Law Enforcement being its only remaining department, and a bunch of terrorists on the loose, Brock chose to prioritize other offices first. It did make him wonder now how many crimes and offences were going unnoticed due to him not being versatile enough. But who knew, maybe if he took another, more thorough, look at all the reports from the other heads, he could be able to find a clue he'd missed. It was a long shot but these were dangerous times and, much to the popular contrary believe sometimes, he did take his job seriously. Which couldn't be said about what he was up to around Scarecrow. Though, he did find taking an occasional break, something he'd utterly disregarded before, somehow aided in balancing all the weight on his shoulders. Or it frustrated the hell out of him. Even Hawkeye had glaringly suggested he should take more time off for his hobby in the evenings, but Brock suspected he was only this persistent due to his bet.

Brock was about to insist the student elaborate further, but the looks Scare was throwing him as well as her dismissal made him reconsider. Squaring his shoulders, he regarded her with initial irritation. Although not precisely voicing it in that way, she was right in reminding him he still had more important things to do, and it bothered him immensely having caught himself wanting to spend that time wi-- annoying her rather than doing some extra work. And what was the point, really? It wasn't like she could help him with what was really nagging him. Swiftly, his half-smile grew unusually cold as he retorted indifferently, "No... not from you, Professor." Turning away from the two females and narrowly passing a Hufflepuff without skipping a beat, he shifted into his faster pace, not even glancing back as he added, "Enjoy dinner."

It wasn't like he needed her to scratch that vexing itch at the back of his mind. A lie, maybe, but there were second-rate options. He could spend the rest of the stupid holiday looking over the records and take a night off for a change. Funny how many times he'd formed that same plan only to never adhere to it. It was like something always emerged that needed to be done, and he couldn't bring himself to simply forget about all that. Well, not without distraction. Shaking his head dismissively, Baker made his way straight for his office, barking at a handful of subordinates along the way to make a few errands for him.

Halle couldn't regret her decision to ask the auror to leave. It was, however, oddly unsatisfying having him actually listen to her for once. The thought that she'd hurt his feelings ran across her mind before she could stop it. The thought wasn't so laughable as once it might have been. She'd crossed some sort of line, but she somehow doubted it had anything to do with what had actually been said. The Professor refused to be affected by his suddenly cold shoulder. Her gaze lingered after him a brief moment before returning to the task at hand.

The Professor listened as intently as she could to the Gryffindor's story. An unusual amount of focus going towards it as she deciphered the stuttered mess the seemed to flow persistently from Opal's mouth. She was a little shocked at the emotion behind the story. Certainly accidental magic was not an uncommon thing. There wasn't really any way to prevent the use of it until the student had had proper training. "There's not much that can be done in regards to accidental magic." Halcyon took a moment to smile at the concerned Hufflepuff that had joined them. Once upon a time, before the ministry had been destroyed, there had been a branch dealing specifically with accidental magic. If something serious were to happen, that was. The ministry rarely bothered themselves with little things as Opal was describing. Muggles rarely asked questions of children, who had a tendency of ending up in odd places and exaggerating truths. "Generally speaking it only occurs when an untrained witch or wizard is in a stressful situation. The ministry used to monitor all such occurrences and step in if they were worried the secrecy of our situation was jeopardized. This is no longer the case, however. Not much can be done in regards to the questions being asked." The secrecy of the wizarding world had become less of a concern since the Dark Lord had risen. Memory modification was not something to be used lightly. She certainly couldn't suggest Opal take matters into her own hands, or offer up the services of the school. It was unfortunate she could not have been of more help. Brock might have been some help in regards to this, though she found it hard to believe he'd have said anything useful at all. Undoubtedly he would have stopped her mid story and tried to scare her into losing her stutter. "The best I can suggest is having a very serious conversation with your sister about her temper and magic." Not many people gave children the benefit of the doubt. There was a lot a child would do to ensure the safety of their family. The Professor took a moment to glance between the two, "H-How old is she?"

"S-sorry, Freys. I haven't even told Mom and Dad," Opal admitted. "I'm so worried that Eirin's going to b-be in danger, or something," Opal snapped her fingers at Freya's suggestion. "The library! Y-you're right, Freya, that's perfect! Only....." Opal frowned as she remembered what the night was. "I-I thought tonight was the Yule ball,"
It wasn't that Opal really wanted to go. She was awkward at dances. Last time all she'd done was sketch the entire Great Hall with the party decorations up in order to send to Eirin and Henry. She had a dress- a beautiful, drop dead gorgeous dress robe that her mother thought made her look like a princess- that didn't necessarily mean that she wanted to do anything with it. But she had thought Freya would want to go dance.
Plus, it would be magical. If Opal could get up the courage, that is.
Opal turned to Professor Hicks. "She.....She's s-seven, Professor H-Hicks. W-With the shortest-t fuse I-I've e-ever s-seen in my l-life. I-I've t-tried, b-believe me," She smiled. "I-I just h-have this-s feeling she's m-more Gryffindor than I-I am-m,"

They were nearing the castle now and Halle sighed slightly, "The houses aren't set with standards a student must fit to gain entry. It's impossible to properly categorize people in such a way. The houses themselves are shaped by the people within more so than what the founders intended upon creation..." Realizing she was rambling off topic she rapidly made her point, "I-I-I would not suggest anyone compare themselves to a standard set by someone else." Finished with a nervous sort of smile. It was important, to her, that students understood that they had worth though she doubted her intention came across. More likely the two had just felt like they'd gotten a lecture. Halcyon had never agreed on the purposeful divide between students but imagined most of the drama would be there regardless of the houses. Certainly more good came then bad. Each house had a way of creating unity and security, of pushing a student to achieve what they might otherwise not.

The Professor returned to the task at hand shortly, almost as an after thought. It was not Opal's job to worry about the safety of her younger sister. "If you don't mind my own intervention, I could have a letter written directly to your parents. Worse comes to worse Eirin could be home schooled... Or something to that effect." Adults tended to listen better to other adults anyway. Halle held the door open for the girls, "I-If you have any other concerns, feel fr-free to come see me. You might be able to find more information in the library, but I would suggest talking to a Professor before taking matters into your own hands, just in case." Another smile, though she realized she would probably have more to do before she could leave, lest she forget about her intention to write a letter home to Opal's family. Not to mention she should probably try to find Brock and see if she'd done any permanent damage. Right. That was the only reason she wanted to see him.

"Thank y-you, P-professor," Opal said in relief. She wasn't really sure her parents would get it if she said anything, but if Professor Hicks could explain it.... "That w-would b-be fantastic-c,"
She turned to Freya, a smile on her face. "Hey Freys, I-I need to pick up something in my common room. I-I'll meet you at lunch,"
Opal walked inside, towards the common room. She'd done a portrait of Freya for Christmas, and she'd had one heck of a time hiding it from the girls in her dorm.
