Welcome to Hogwarts Interactive Role Play, one of the net's best in Harry Potter and Hogwarts role plays. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Here at Hogwarts our students are currently in their Seventh Year. Last year, the war against the Knights crescendoed into a direct attack against the school. Disappearances are still reported (or not) daily, and the Dark Lord and his Knights of Walpurgis have succeeded in spreading their message of "do as thou will" far and wide across the globe. Magical Law Enforcement, which is now the only authority in the wizarding world under Martial Law, has responded by tightening security, controlling the media, and strictly enforcing curfews and other laws. Their control is damaging to the people's freedom, and their hierarchy is a suspicious lot. It is clear that some members of the MLE like their new found power a bit too much, others see it necessary, but all are in serious danger of being consumed by it. But with the picture of just what Azariah Amaranth is after becoming ever clearer, and a third player in the form of a group called SAVIOR entering the scene, what will the MLE do next to ensure that they've got the situation under control?

The Elementium, the Higher Plane that had once been hidden just beyond the veil in the Department of Mysteries, and the Deathly Hallows. The pieces of the puzzle have been identified, but what picture do they make?

Today is Day 1 of Year Seven. Students have had time to recover from the Knight's attack, and are beginning to reluctantly return to the walls of Hogwarts. The safety of the school has been diminished, bringing up the question everyone must ask. Are you safe anywhere these days? It's up to each individual to decide their fate, where will you decide to go?

Alexa stifled a yawn as she trudged into the Great Hall, arms high in the air as she pulled at her hair, yanking it into a loose ponytail, out of her eyes. She sat down at the Gryffindor table, for there was already some unfamiliar faces at the Slytherin table she did not particularly like the look of. So there she sat, not to stay, but to merely wait for someone familiar to walk in.

Food had already appeared on the table, awaiting hungry hands to paw and grab at its contents. The girls long fingers picked up a single slice of buttered toast, almost automatically bringing it to her lips. With the other hand, she waved at a few newcomers to the school, still slightly anxious and still taking things in. One of them, adorning the hufflepuff yellow around their neck, jumped at the sight of Alexa, clearly a slytherin, by the green necktie she wore. "Don't worry. I don't bite. You'll like it here." she said with a smile.

It was four months since Beth had at least partially regained her sight, but the girl wondered if any amount of time would ever be enough to let her get used to a world without colours. If she hadn't been made a prefect, Beth doubted she would get on that horrid train again and enter her Seventh year. If it wasn't for the support of her friends and the particularly kind Auror who'd saved her, she didn't think anything would persuade her to even leave her room. The first two weeks back at Hogwarts had been the worst. It had seemed like everyone was staring at her creepy eyes and Beth had found it hard to do her duties and ignore the snickering students. Then she came up with an idea to hide behind a pair of sunglasses, which didn't make her stand out any less, but at least gave her the reassurance nobody could see what lay beneath.

The Hufflepuff still seemed more than a little skittish for weeks after that, and kept mostly to her common room if not otherwise preoccupied. As of yet, she had been unsuccessful in coming up with a plan to get back to the Slytherin who'd crushed all her dreams as if they were ants crawling at her feet. Beth never considered herself a vengeful person but, somehow, someday, she would find a way to make Jordana pay. But for now, she was on her own with knowledge of what had really happened those six months ago, having to fake a loss of memory because of some stupid curse, and it was eating her up inside.

Beth entered the Great Hall holding a hand of a young Jeffrey, who'd gotten lost on his way to breakfast after another grand escape of his rat, which now rested comfortably in his free arm. Being able to help younger years was one of her few joys nowadays, and a light smile grazed the girl's lips as Jeffery thanked her and ran off to his friends. The smile just as quickly disappeared when the nagging conviction of the surrounding murmurs being at her expense took a seed in her mind once more. Lowering her head and readjusting her glasses, Beth continued towards her usual spot at the Hufflepuff table, sitting down and helping herself to some toasts and tea.

Alistair let out a low whistle as he strolled through the castle halls. It was Halloween. A date that could both be considered a curse and a blessing considering what had happened last year. Last year. Why did the problems from then seem so menial now? It was so odd to consider what wouldn't matter in the future and if he would look back on all that stressed him out now and be able to laugh about it. It was about this time of year last year that he was starting to be able to get his way around Hogwarts quite well and admittedly he sort of missed having an entourage of first years following him about...

Regardless, when he entered the Great Hall he was donning a familiar Alistair style grin. A smile that broadened as he noticed Beth at the Hufflepuff table. A girl whose company he found far superior to many. She didn't appear to be dressed up for Halloween, but many were. Alistair relished the days he didn't have to wear robes, in all honesty. He was far too much of a muggle for his own good. A familiar leather, and particularly ratty leather jacket adorned his shoulders once more matched with an equally ratty tee shirt and jeans. "Morning gorgeous!" Ali greeted, practically falling into a spot next to her. He might have shot her a smile had a ghost not decided this was an opportune moment to poke his head through the Hufflepuff's plate. He was shocked by the revelation he didn't even get a chance to jump.

"Happy Halloween!" The spectre greeted in a jovial sort of way before disappearing through the plate and reappearing down the line. A first year giggle in joy at the sudden appearance of the ghost and tried to make conversation with the see through fellow. Alistair glanced over at Beth then and smiled. "Didn't miss me too horribly, eh?" Well, considering how much time the duo spent together now being newly allotted prefects.... It was meant as a joke. The man wouldn't be surprised if Beth was growing tired of his Alistair-y antics by now. Especially after what happened over the summer... He tried not to think about it or bring it up but those sunglasses were a horrid reminder on how things had changed.

Hazel strode casually into the Great Hall. The last few months of her life had been... interesting. For lack of a better word. To say the relationship she was in was unorthodox was a slight understatement. It was a difficult situation, but they were dealing with it fairly well so far. Erion was used quite a lot to chauffeur messages between the two as it wasn't exactly appropriate any other way... The teen ran her fingers through her hair and walked towards the Ravenclaw table. Stopping to smooth out her costume; a form fitting skeleton style dress. She hadn't wanted to do something ridiculous this year. Nor did she want to draw too much attention to herself, an odd sort of revelation for a spastic sort of girl.

Were she more ambitious she might have given her eyes super dark rims and paled out her face. But instead opted for a pale lipstick and dark eyeliner. Simple. Her legs were 'covered' by fishnet stockings. She had thigh high socks that depicted the lower half of a skeleton but opted out as the top and bottom was a bit much for her. The day was a bit cold however and she'd brought a sweater with her, just in case. Once seated, not by anyone she knew, she scanned the Great Hall for a few familiar faces. There were two in particular she looked for most days, just an odd sort of habit she'd adopted since day one. Brock and her Head of House often had amusing spats during meals that kept some of the students amused as the days worse on. And then there was Cylas... who she was always keeping an eye out for. Just in case.

Giving up, for the moment, Hazel turned to her plate and grabbed a few pieces of toast. She wasn't hungry but given the schedule for today she'd probably need her energy. Classes were hectic. Professor Baker's classes in particular were fast paced and hard to keep up with. He was a brutal sort of teacher but she learned a lot in his classes. She wasn't sure how she should feel about the man. Not that it mattered what she thought about him, in the long run. Right? He was just very incredibly hard to like... Well, past experience didn't help with this opinion either. She chewed thoughtfully on a corner of toast.

Auror

After a rough week and a half, Cylas had returned to the school from the homestead late last night. He hadn't even sent a message to Hazel- only reported to Brock informing his superior that he was back to work. It was Halloween, and usually he enjoyed this holiday, but he was a little out of sorts now. His mother had asked him to stay home longer, but he refused.
His oldest sister hadn't been around for anything at all.. not the services, not to help comfort anyone in the family... He wondered if Curt even knew.
Amber had taken him aside to tell him that they hadn't seen Sarah for months. She wouldn't answer any messages sent to her, and never showed up just to say hi anymore. He had listened, and started to wonder if something had happened... Curt rarely spoke to him. He was really hoping that this year would be a good one to spend with his nephew and help him grow, but now Cy didn't even think the boy knew his grandfather had passed.
And he really didn't know if he should be the one to tell him.
Cy had been walking up and down the hall, it had only recently started filling up with students. He didn't see Curt, though he often didn't see the boy at meals. In fact, the only place he saw the him at was when he stopped into Professor Hick's first year class. He really enjoyed seeing the look on the kid's faces when they learned more and more, and really appreciated Halle for her practice, as well as her allowance of his attendance.
The only student he really couldn't help smile was Curtis, and Cy carried a heavy heart for a young boy that seemed so solemn all the time.
He looked over to the Ravenclaw table then, probably for the tenth time and spotted Hazel. He hoped she wasn't mad at him for not informing her.. but he knew that everything with his name on it was going to go straight to someone else before to her, as all the mail was going to be checked. He had told her when he was leaving, just hours before he actually did. They had managed a quick private moment, and he thought he had handled himself well enough, even though his anger was rekindled at the idea of his father's weakening body.
He walked over to the Ravenclaw table, quickly eyeing the head table first. Brock was no where to be seen as of yet, that was good. He leaned over Hazel's shoulder.. was she in costume? "Hey there, blue eyes." He whispered, the intent just to startle her a little bit. He hadn't thought about any repercussions, till after the fact. Hopefully she would be able to maintain herself. It was probably stupid for him to have approached the situation in such a way.
Oh well.

Unfortunately, Dawn couldn't put it passed himself not to dress up for Halloween. It would've been boring to to get dress today, anyone who knew him would say he needed to get into the spirit of the Hollows. It's not like Dawn dislike the fall holiday, it was the opposite really. Dawn had a hard time being in the spirit, embracing it to the fullest. He dressed in whatever clothes he had and made something out of nothing. Playing with a few charms and spells, so that his skin was bone white and his eyes were a crimson red. He looked down, his teeth were sharp and he used a bit of red liquid to ooze out of the side of his mouth. Like the blood brothers he read during the summer, he had the idea to turn into a vampire. Because he did not want to look silly and he'd be wearing regular clothes, the idea stuck and so he went on with the show. Hopefully no one at breakfast would find him ridiculous for wanting to be a vampire, there are a few who disliked them, Dawn found them fascinating in some aspects, and that was that.

He enter the great hall, a smile never appeared on his face when he went onward to sit at his table. He saw a Slytherin who was misplaced oddly sitting at the Gryffindor table. Dawn had no idea who it was, nor did he actually bother to care. In a swift moment he arrived the earliest amongst his fellow seventh year, except Hazel was there looking weird in a skeleton outfit. His light pale eyes studied the girl, "Morning aren't you looking swell" he made a passing comment, pushing aside he sat right across from her table. He dug into the morning feast, reaching over for a morning toast and filled his plate with eggs. He was at least surprised this morning it did not come with a pair, Brynn the other one the girl who he had indifferent feelings towards, he sort felt the same about Hazel. Dawn buttered up his toast and stab his egg with a fork, he got right into eating, He ate healthy all the time, it's morning where he felt like eating much more and than caring about how many calories was in that toast. He proceed to eat as the morning chattered arises around him, and Dawn quiet as a mouse like always.

Making gradual progress with her toast, Beth occasionally glanced towards the Head Table to see if there was something interesting going on. Especially when out of her small circle of friends, she had found that the exchanges between her two new teachers could prove entertaining enough to make the meals pass in no time at all, sans her frequent spells of uneasiness. Although it was still very early, something must have delayed the eccentric pair this morning, at least the somewhat intimidating Auror was nowhere to be found.

Luckily, Beth didn't have to wait for long before her saviour arrived. It was not an exaggeration to think of Alistair that way. He'd not only saved her life on the train, but he'd also proved to be an amazing friend by somehow tirelessly dragging her out of her bleak moods. There were times when the girl wondered how she even deserved to have someone like Alistair in her life, but she kept this to herself. It was his voice that announced her friend's presence and Beth's head whirled around to greed him, a soft smile touching her lips. "Hey..." her voice trailed off as she took in his unusual attire - unusual for school, at least. But before she had the chance to question it, a ghost decided it would be a perfect time to give a couple of unsuspecting students a fright. It certainly worked on the already jumpy female prefect, who started at the sight and in her instinctive defence tossed her half eaten toast at the intruding head. Of course, the ghost didn't even seem to notice as it went right through its incorporeal form and stuck itself to Alistair's plate. The girl had enough decency to cover her mouth to muffle her belated giggle.

At Alistair's inquiry, Beth's lips widened into a full smile. Her hand rose and its thumb and index finger parted as if to say 'only a little'. "There were some tears but I'm okay now," she replied in kind a moment later. The girl glanced around the Great Hall, noticing what she'd missed by staring at the ground all morning. The decorations weren't much of a giveaway as they barely made the place look any different to her, gray as they were, but she should have noticed the occasional costumes. Beth must have been the only Hufflepuff in school robes around. Actually, one fifth year had a robe as well, which didn't much alleviate her growing embarrassment. It was exactly a year since the Fiendfyre attack, and Beth couldn't help glancing to the Slytherin table, wondering if Jordana was responsible for that as well. However, her silent thoughtfulness didn't last long and she returned her shaded gaze to Alistair. "So Halloween, huh? Let's hope there'll be no uncontrollable fires this year," she uttered as a joke while raising her cup of tea in a mock toast, only later realizing how insensitive it must have sounded.

Hazel glanced up both from thought and toast alike as Dawn spoke to her. A rather vast improvement considering the first time they'd really spoken. "G'Mornin." As it was, she really wasn't sure how to take what he'd said. Subtle mockery or compliment? "Hey, thanks." The teen finally decided it didn't matter what he meant, she thought she looked presentable and gave him a smile. "Happy Halloween, right?" By which point she'd already finished her piece of toast. The Ravenclaw might have asked Dawn a generic sort of question were she not tapped on the shoulder.

The teen wasn't given much of a chance to turn around when a very distinctive voice breathed words into her ear. It did surprise her! The sudden thrill that jived through her body doing little to stymie the emotion and a broad sort of grin engulfed her features. "You're back-!" Hazel had stood and wrapped her arms around him, in what she later hoped could be interpretted in a friendly manner, before pulling away pseudo-rapidly and raising a hand to her mouth in embarrassment. Whoops! cleary written across her features. Caught up, perhaps, in the fact that she hadn't seen the guy in almost two weeks... she forgot, momentarily, that pulling him into a hug probably wasn't the best idea. Well, that and with everything he'd gone through... and he really shouldn't have done that her... Luckily she hadn't done something more stupid. She hadn't seen Brock at his designated spot at the head table, so all was not lost.

"Sorry! I didn't mean to attack you." Hazel finished belatedy, with a small sort of embarrassed giggle, her arms crossing around her midsection now; to stop their insane hugging urges. The teen's gaze trailed over him. She'd missed him. It had been rather shocking the way he had suddenly disappeared. Not that she'd ever admit to staying up late worrying about him. What was she allowed to do in this situation? He seemed alright but the ridiculous urge to find time alone with him was hard to ignore. No way could she drag him out of the Great Hall; not now that she'd tackled his bones into a hug, that was.

At her exclamation he grinned, but he wasn't expecting her to jump up and hug him the way that she did! His arms caught her briefly before he pulled them back. Let's not get too close together.. His eyes glanced a little nervously at the head table- but Brock was no where to be seen still.
Seeing her again made his heart feel lighter then it had in a while. He wanted to kiss her.. Or talk to her. But they couldn't do that here.
He laughed at her apology. He understood. "Look.. When you get some time later tonight I want to meet you at the usual spot, ok?" he smirked at her. It would be nice.. Just to hold her close really. It sounded so needy of him in his own mind... But it was what he wanted. He knew she probably missed him too...
What in the world was she wearing? It was then that he took a step back and got a full look of what he assumed was her Halloween costume.
Dis he blink, or were the lights flickering?
"Wow..." he exhaled, "um.." he shook his head then.. Let's not think about what was in front him. Was he really that speechless?
"You look.. Wow. Amazing" he had to stop looking her over before someone noticed. He crossed his arms "Um, I gotta go get back to work alright? I'll..." stop Cylas, "I'll.. See you tonight ok?"
He smiled at her. What...just happened to him?

Alistair wasn't really expecting Beth to react negatively to the ghost's surprise... He certainly wasn't expecting half a piece of toast to get flung onto his plate. It went through the poor things head before he disappeared back through the table. Beth's giggle struck an odd sort of chord within him. The shock of the situation tore a hearty sort of laugh from the man and he plucked the piece of toast up, holding it daintily in between thumb and forefinger. "I appreciate the thought..." The Hufflepuff started, glancing over at Beth with an arched eyebrow. "It's not every day someone thinks to give you some toast." At which point he grinned broadely. "Want this back?" This came out more seriously and he waved the half devoured thing back and forth. He was in a bagel-y sort of mood anyways.

He was laughing as she measured out the amount she missed him with her fingers. "You sure know how to make a guy feel special." The Hufflepuff responded, grin in a place, even as he returned to his plate. Crumbs from Beth's toast splattered it, but he wasn't picky. Alistair reached for the nearest bagel and spent the next few minutes cutting, spreading and devouring. He turned to face Beth as she piped up again and he almost choked on a piece of bagel as he laughed and raised his glass in turn. "Least we know how to stop it this year." His brown eyes lit up at the odd scheme that floated through his mind. Just put Dave and Cos on a sacrificial pillar and they could do that voodoo that they do to stop another fiendfyre were it to arise. Just might have to do a thorough broom closet check when they were searching for the pair. He smirked slightly at the thought.

It was then his gaze went to the head table. He and Beth had sort of started this bad habit of watching two of their Professors and their antics each morning. It was probably very rude of them but the pair was quite hilarious to watch. Like dinner and a show. "Any new developments with Hack?" Alistair questioned in a low sort of conspiratorial voice, leaning closer to his friend with a grin. He didn’t see the pair yet, but Beth had been here longer than he.

It was just really great to see him again, right? To see that smile... She needed to stop staring. Her gaze went rapidly around the Great Hall, wondering if anyone was taking undue interest in them. This would have to be quick. A thing that was really, incredibly unfortunate. Cylas pulled right into the point and Hazel nodded at what he said with a small smile, being able to spend some time with him would be nice, though she wasn't given a chance to properly respond as he pulled back and got a good look at her. His reaction was enough to draw forth a blush as he had never really so obviously... just stared before. Hazel was at a loss for words as he stumbled over a compliment and quietly bit back the urge to pull him into a kiss. The fact that he was back threw a happy sort of spin on the day that hadn't been there prior and that needed to be enough right now.

She was glad he approved; though she was going to have an even worse time of focusing in her classes now. Hopefully the Professors would be lenient because of the holiday. An unintentionally sultry grin graced her features for a small moment. Hazel was glad she had crossed her arms, the urge to reach out and break down some of the distance was... "Thanks, Cylas." Once more her gaze shot around the Great Hall and she grinned in a more upbeat manner when it returned to the man. "I'll be there." Hazel murmured definitively before smiling slightly in response to his own. "Promise!" At which point she threw in a surreptitious wink and returned to her seat as though nothing extraordinary or strange had just happened. Trying not to think of that adorable flustered face or how long it was until they'd be able to actually talk... a few moments passed before the teen let her head sink into her hands and allowed a low sort of sigh to escape.

Beth was having a hard time stifling a grin when Alistair joined in, seemingly undisturbed by her bit of food marring his plate. She offered an apologetic look but was unable to emit any other noise than the chortle passing through her fingers at his words. It was so easy to feel normal around Ali. He had some special gift for making people around him forget all that weighted them down. Surely, it wasn't only her feeling that way. "If I only knew you were so easy to please, I would have flung you one long ago," Beth finally managed to say, barely catching a burst of laughter that threatened to leave her mouth at his toast waving. "I'd let you have it but..." she continued, failing to mimic her friend's sobriety, while quickly snatching the toast from him, "the bond between a girl and her toast is far too great to be broken for any man's affection." How did he always manage to maker her say such gibberish?

"I try," Beth responded with a smile, shortly batting her eyes at the young man, likely with all the elegance of a trained chimpanzee, but only later realizing he probably hadn't been able to see that. The smile swiftly faded as she turned back to her toasts, only briefly considering at least cleaning Alistair's plate before it became apparent he didn't seem to mind. She had the time to finish the adventurous flying food before their unorthodox toast. His response alleviated her worries and brought a smile of her own as she clicked her ceramic cup to his glass. "Cheers." It was almost too odd how warm his eyes appeared now. The real irony being that when she finally had the courage to even glance at them, with the sunglasses providing enough anonymousness to make it seem less intrusive, she could no longer make out their real colour. The girl felt incredibly guilty not being able to remember something so substantial about her best friend.

Only just finished with smearing atop her toast what smelled like a chocolate butter, Beth looked back up when Alistair addressed her, immediately making the corners of her lips curl upwards. Their little habit of spying on the two teachers and commenting on their curious exploits was on itself worth attending all the meals, something Beth would have been otherwise reluctant to do. What would happen if the duo knew? Beth wasn't very eager to try out one of the Auror's infamous detentions, but they still weren't enough of a deterrent for either Prefect. The girl glanced around surreptitiously before tilting her head toward her collaborator. "Negative, no sight of the subjects so far," she informed quietly. "Maybe they're finally-" Beth paused, a light blush tinting her cheeks as she reconsidered her choice of words, "erm, bickering somewhere else?" But it wasn't long before the heavy wooden doors revealed the pair in question. Beth caught the movement and nodded to Alistair to alert him of their presence. Officer Baker clearly articulated with his hands, a sight that had her arching both eyebrows. "What... are they talking about?"

There was almost nothing better than to run a few clicks in a light morning rain to start off a day. Baker's routine was similar every day, but often slightly adjusted if he had to scold one of the new recruits or stop by his class to prep it for the day's first lesson, like today. Only this time, he was fortunate enough to encounter the Professor of Transfiguration on his way to breakfast, which only made the morning even better.

The usual suits were left untouched this day, as Brock opted for a little more imposing attire. From neck to toe, all in jet black, the man donned a snug pair of trousers, a shirt with abnormally pointy collar and a jacket with long lapels and sharp edges. As if to top off the haunting effect, a crimson smear of blood, nestled comfortably in his unshaven morning stubble, and charmed sharp canines, were completing the picture. Brock was well aware it was a severely unoriginal garb, but he couldn't very well run around in a mouldy costume of Beetlejuice, teach three classes and bark at other Aurors with the same efficiency.

Brock was immersed in a conversation, mostly a monologue, with his colleague when pushing open the Great Hall's doors. "I swear, Scare, it's this big," he stressed proudly, his palms a good fifteen inches apart before him, then added with a smirk "I can always show you if you don't believe me." The man walked a couple of steps into the room when he took a glimpse of a certain Auror. "Duty calls," Brock whispered into her ear before giving Hiccups an unnecessarily hefty pat on the back and walking off.

Although Cylas' back was facing him, it seemed to Brock he was talking to someone. However, before the older man reached his subordinate, his discussion was already over. Brock cleared his throat, "Enjoyed your leave, Hotshot?" Naturally curious about what he'd missed, he leaned to a side to look behind the blonde. What a surprise to find the Owl Girl sitting just by the man she had accidentally met in the Diagon Alley just when his boss happened to walk by. "Ah, Miss Evans, how's your bird today?" Brock asked the girl with mild amusement. It wasn't often he remembered a student's name, but this one made an exception for a reason.

It had only been Brock's intention to check on the Auror after the gossip concerning the nature of his leave had reached his ears. But although he'd had no time or interest to closely follow all of his men's personal lives, this chance was too convenient to pass.

The smile that she was wearing, along with that wink made it difficult for him to actually leave the scene before he heard the one voice he.. just didn't want to hear right now.
Enjoyed his leave? He assumed Brock didn't really know what had happened. Before Cylas could answer his superior, the other man had already turned the conversation over to Hazel. If only he had walked away quick enough! It was obvious that Baker recalled everything that took place in Diagon Alley and referred to Erion.
"I guess it went as well as it could have, considering the circumstance, thank you." He said as a quick answer. The blonde turned to face him then, "My father had a lot of respect for men of your caliber. You didn't work with him for very long, but.. I thought I'd share that. Thanks, Baker." Cy said the last part with a pretty genuine smile. It wasn't a lie. Was it awful that he was using his father's memory as a way to distract Brock from bothering Hazel?
Good thing he lived by grace! He wasn't going to allow himself to feel bad about this.

Halcyon was running slightly behind her schedule this morning. The fact that she even had a schedule was such an incredible change from where she had been a year ago she didn't even have the heart to beat herself up over not being able to keep up with it. Her bed had been particularly comfy this morning and she'd had a hard time of pulling herself out of it. Though the week was going better than it had been, what after she'd turned the imposing auror into a matchbox. She still jumped a little at the sight of him and had an incredible urge to run in the opposite direction. Brock had sprung on her this particular morning and she'd been unable to escape his jaunty remarks all the way to breakfast.

The woman was not dressed up for Halloween. Most she'd done was fix her hair so that it looked at least slightly presentable... And bemusedly noted that she might actually look like someone capable of being a Professor of Hogwarts. She certainly hadn't been doing a good job of running her house. In fact she'd been on the verge of a stress induced coma since the start of term all because Brock would not leave her alone. It seemed everywhere she turned his sneering grin was there to greet her. You can imagine the immense shock she got at discovering he now had a few pointy teeth. Either way, she felt relatively calm for having dealt with the man today and simply rolled her eyes at most of his remarks.

Only Brock could turn a innocent talk about knives into something like that. Halcyon shot a disgusted look his way, for good measure. Though the look was ruined as she jumped out of her skin at his whisper, she wasn't even given a chance to put some distance between them before he clapped her on the back and set off to torment someone else. The woman's hazel eyes followed the man to his goal and cringed internally for Cylas. The young auror had been gone for a greater portion of two weeks and as far as she could tell the two really did not get along. Figuring it was none of her business, though a large part of her wanted to spy in on the conversation, she continued her way to her seat. Halle liked Cylas, he had a calming effect on her first year class and was really great with the kids... Perhaps off in a world of her own, the woman bashed her hip into the edge of the Professor's table, groaned and hurriedly found her spot.

Her head grew heavier in her hands as she heard Brock Baker's discriminable voice. Resisting the urge to groan, she wondered how much the man had witnessesd. His comment to Cylas rang out a bit rude, but she tried not to let it bother her. Brock probably didn't know why he had taken the leave, after all... Hazel wasn't expecting to get addressed she tensed slightly and turned back around, a friendly sort of response on her lips. Despite the fact that he didn't deserve it. She barely had a chance to open her mouth before Cylas interjected and pulled the focus away from her, perhaps indefinitely. The teen smiled between the two, just as a way of showing Baker she wasn't trying to ignore him, and quickly turned back to her plate. Part of her was not OK with not responding verbally to getting addressed by one of her Professors but the other was fairly certain she shouldn't interrupt the two.

Now all she could do was sit and act like she wasn't eavesdropping on their conversation. A hand absently grabbed for an apple and she glanced down the Ravenclaw table, looking for someone she could start a conversation with. Were her cheeks heated? This was sort of nerve wracking for her... Hazel appreciated Cylas's effort to pull the conversation from her. Last time she'd talked to Baker it had been so ridiculously messy and... Well, it hadn't turned out so bad. In the end. After all of the sudden auror drama had passed by. She shouldn't have been so optimistic to think that it wouldn't follow them to Hogwarts. Hazel just really hoped he hadn't caught sight of her hugging him... That would be difficult to explain. The nature of their relationship? Had it really been discussed last time this happened? Stop freaking out.

"Hey, I'm a simple sort of guy." Alistair admitted, with a small laugh. Glad he was able to steal smiles from the Hufflepuff at his side. "I'd have been happy with a quarter of toast." He pouted slightly as she snatched the toast from him but was laughing as she explained why. In fact a response was all but lost upon him as he continued cackling. "A noble cause!" He admitted boisterously when his laughter had subsided. "I'll try not to hold it against ya, eh?" It would take a lot more than some denied toast to squander his affection for the girl. It didn't seem the sort of thing he should say out loud. Even in a joking manner. Beth meant a lot to him; a thing she was probably aware of.

He took a rather large swig of his juice after cheersing with Beth; hoping that something like that wouldn't happen again. Alistair held in a joke about the lack of Hufflepuff house members after all the attacks last year because it would really be out of taste. He didn't see the Hufflepuff house as weak, not after getting to know so many of the members. He wasn't sure why all of the other houses looked down upon them. Ali glanced over at Beth thoughtfully before finishing off his bagel. When a sudden thought burst its way through his brain. "I've been thinking about trying to transfigure a dragon." He'd actually held a very riveting conversation with the Fat Lady's Portrait about the thought of this. Though the portrait had mostly ignored him. Alistair was a very confident transfigurist. As it was he was working his way to becoming an animagus. "Just a small one, mind you. And not a vipertooth. Heard they're quite nasty." Was he rambling?

Alistair's grin was a conspiratorial one as the Hack conversation continued. He was glad he was all but finished eating because as Beth prattled on he was having an increasingly hard time not laughing. Maybe they're finally... and he started to chuckle. Oh, his poor brain. It took a lot out of him to not fill that sentence in with the obvious answer. He was glad that Beth thought of something not along those lines, but it didn't stop his laughter. Broom closets once more came to mind and the thought of Hack... He needed to not think about two of his Professors like that. Ali ran his fingers through his hair and shook his head. His gaze turned in time to see Brock motioning with his hands and he smirked. "Knives." He turned his gaze to Beth with raised eyebrows and a grin before following the two as they seperated. Professor Hicks bashed her way into a table... He wondered, briefly, what had so distracted her... "She doesn't normally walk into tables, eh? Bit distracted..." At which point he reached forward to grab a Halloween cupcake. Brock wasn't doing much interesting. They were best together, after all...

Brock held the Ravenclaw's eyes, expectantly, as she turned to answer, but was swiftly cut off by the Auror. How convenient. One of his eyebrows climbed up his forehead and he didn't return his attention to Cylas until the girl faced her plate. Brock was - had been - familiar with Cylas' father, to some extent. Andrew Elliot had been a skilled and efficient Auror, both of which his son lacked entirely, in Baker's opinion. If he didn't think the younger man was lying or sucking up - or both, Brock might have commented differently. But as it were, he sent Cylas a doubtful look before speaking, in a tone as neutral as could be. "Andrew was a good man, but I'm just here to make sure you're on the top of your game, Elliot, so don't get all gushy on me." People died, life went on, Brock wasn't of an opinion that paying his respect more than once or dwelling on the past could ever get him anywhere.

"Try to stay out of trouble - both of you," Brock uttered a moment later, a furtive smirk on his lips. Then the man turned on his heel and paced a few steps away from the pair before pausing and glancing over his shoulder at Cylas, "Meet me here at three and don't forget your wand." Not feeling like sharing any details with students around, Brock continued on his way to the Head Table without further explanation.

Dropping heavily onto his usual chair by the Transfiguration Professor, Brock rubbed the bridge of his nose before leaning over his Hiccups to reach for a bowl of scrambled eggs. "You never told me if you wanted to see the dagger," the Auror grinned at his neighbour as he puddled a healthy portion of the meal on his plate. A large part of him wondered whether she, even for a second, thought he'd talked about something else. From how she had brushed him off earlier, Brock deduced it must have been the case.

A couple of moments later, as he usurped a glass of pumpkin juice, toasts and a few sausages, Brock scanned the Great Hall briefly before elbowing Hiccups' arm. "Just a quickie," he declared suggestively, "go on, you know you want to." The man didn't have all that much time before his class, which was why the food disappeared from his plate faster than usual, but one round could surely be arranged. It had been a nice surprise that Scare was willing to play in public.

Auror

Cylas ignored the little bit of annoyance he felt to the look Brock gave him. He was being honest, after all. Cy was often compared by his father to other young Aurors, and Brock had often been one of them. Brock's response was a little cool, but Cylas was used to that by now, no matter how sensitive the subject was. Not that he could say anything about it, he was using it as a way to get Hazel out of the conversation.
Meet me here at three and don't forget your wand.
Cylas assumed that was a complete order, as the other man walked away before he could even respond with a nod. What was he supposed to be doing at three? Whatever it was, it didn't matter now, he guessed. Before he stepped away from Hazel, he leaned down and whispered, "I love you." behind her before turning to walk away. Now all he had to do was fade into the background with the rest of them. Like nothing happened.
Thankfully, no one had seemed to pay much attention to everything that had just happened, and Cy was left wondering what it was that Brock needed him for at three.
He looked up and saw Brock sitting by Halle. Cylas didn't know how such a sweet woman could put up with a guy like Brock on a daily basis like that, but figured it was really none of his business. He looked away and started to move up the hall again to break distance between himself and Hazel.

Beth surveyed Alistair curiously at his pout, trying to press her lips tighter together to suppress their incessant twitching but failing miserably. "At least I know what to get you this Christmas," she replied promisingly. Alistair was likely one of the very few people who could manage to find humour in what she'd said rather than palm their face. The fair redhead laid a light hand on her friend's upper arm, grinning wildly as she spoke, "My toast and I would truly appreciate that." The hand left just as quickly when she realized the gesture might seem awkward. It's not like she often walked around grabbing onto people. The last thing she wanted was to somehow scare Alistair away.

In the process of pouring herself some more tea, Beth's attention was pricked by the word 'dragon'. The Hufflepuff glanced over, oblivious of the fact that the teapot she held above her cup was already empty. "A real dragon?" she asked in disbelieve, finally noticing what she had been doing and placing the pot down with an amused shake of her head. "Wouldn't that be really difficult? Not to mention dangerous? Even a small one." Beth only added the latter because she thought she should have, but the idea clearly intrigued her. Dragons were truly magnificent creatures and she'd never forget seeing a real one over two ears ago, even though the encounter left her with a bad case of dragon flu and a month of missed school. "Maybe you could ask Professor Hicks today?" Beth couldn't really picture the woman summoning something as dangerous as a dragon, but it would be safer with a qualified guidance.

Although Beth's embarrassment all but disappeared at Alistair's laughter, it hastily found its way back to her face in doubled force at his explanation. "How..." she began, dumbfounded, before deciding against further humiliation. How could he know? And why was it possible the first thing that came to mind had been so utterly inappropriate? Alistair was a guy, weren't they supposed to be the ones who thought about... stuff? From what she'd heard from the gossip in her dorm, at least. In the end, Beth merely chuckled and enclosed her warm cheeks with a pair of cool palms. Her gaze followed the Auror, curious about what the two men talked about, before sadly averting her eyes. If it hadn't been for her bloody sight, the heinous curse and despicable Jordana, she could have been one of them a few years from now. "Hm?" she murmured distractedly at Alistair's words. "Do you think it's because of Baker's knives?" she found herself saying, in complete seriousness. Only then did she realize the double meaning and turned to the other prefect innocently, a small smirk fighting its way onto her face.

Back at the Head Table, Beth noticed Hack was yet again reunited. The Huffpeuff couldn't phantom how was their nervous professor able to withstand the man's inconspicuous advances into her personal space, now and then. Because what the Auror clearly lacked in compassion, he probably added in not-altogether-disagreeable appearance. Beth would have likely melted into a puddle of goo with someone like that merely sitting beside her. Except for Alistair, obviously, who was a friend she valued way too much to contemplate his manliness. "Oh, I think they're up to something," she notified secretly.
