Welcome to Hogwarts Interactive Role Play, one of the net's best in Harry Potter and Hogwarts role plays. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Here at Hogwarts our students are currently in their Seventh Year. Last year, the war against the Knights crescendoed into a direct attack against the school. Disappearances are still reported (or not) daily, and the Dark Lord and his Knights of Walpurgis have succeeded in spreading their message of "do as thou will" far and wide across the globe. Magical Law Enforcement, which is now the only authority in the wizarding world under Martial Law, has responded by tightening security, controlling the media, and strictly enforcing curfews and other laws. Their control is damaging to the people's freedom, and their hierarchy is a suspicious lot. It is clear that some members of the MLE like their new found power a bit too much, others see it necessary, but all are in serious danger of being consumed by it. But with the picture of just what Azariah Amaranth is after becoming ever clearer, and a third player in the form of a group called SAVIOR entering the scene, what will the MLE do next to ensure that they've got the situation under control?

The Elementium, the Higher Plane that had once been hidden just beyond the veil in the Department of Mysteries, and the Deathly Hallows. The pieces of the puzzle have been identified, but what picture do they make?

Today is Day 1 of Year Seven. Students have had time to recover from the Knight's attack, and are beginning to reluctantly return to the walls of Hogwarts. The safety of the school has been diminished, bringing up the question everyone must ask. Are you safe anywhere these days? It's up to each individual to decide their fate, where will you decide to go?

Seventh Year, also in love with Dave.

Cosette, lost in a flood of students from every house, was pushed into the Great Hall. Here she stood, for the last time, ushered into another year at Hogwarts by the familiar faces of the Great Hall. Locating the Ravenclaw table through the crowd did not take long. It was a route Cosette had taken nearly everyday since eleven, a route she could take blindfolded, backwards, in her sleep. How unbelievable it was to think that this would be the last first time.

The Great Hall was buzzing with friendly chatter, as per usual, but there was something off about the atmosphere. Cosette was sure everyone could sense it. Considering Hogwarts had nearly remained closed because of last year's happenings, the attitudes of the staff would surely have shifted since then. Most likely the MLE, as well.

Cosette adjusted her Head Girl badge, meanwhile wondering if Kemp had been given the boot, and helped guide a handful of second and third through the crowd.

Summer has passed, and yet again Athena was back at the once safe walls of Hogwarts.

Athena entered the Great Hall, little did she know that behind the doors was swarmed by new students running around and loud chatters. She sighed, thought that maybe this wasn't the place to be in at that moment. She stood at the doorway, contemplating between leaving or staying. She decided to stay, since her stomach told her that she was in need of those roast chickens at the Ravenclaw table.

As Athena approached the table, she saw her friend, Cossette. 'Hey Cosette.' Athena greeted enthusiastically. She smiled and looked at the girl. The shinning badge at her robe was not hard to notice. 'Hey! Congratulations! Head girl huh?' Athena was glad that it was Cossette who became one of the leaders for the student body.

"Gay dear? Who dear? Me dear? No dear!" Sixth Year and Artist

It was seventh year, his final year at Hogwarts. Francis stepped into the Great Hall taking in the familiar smell of baked goods which filled the hall on the first day of every year. It began to dawn on him that this would probably be the last time the smell hit his nostrils, he didn’t want that to be the case.

Since his sixth year he had been thinking hard about how he wanted to always come to Hogwarts, even work in the great castle if he could. That summer he had decided what he wanted to be, what he wanted to achieve in life. He wanted to teach at the wizarding school. It had snapped into his brain suddenly and clung for dear life on the train ride towards Hogwarts. Francis just couldn’t shake the thought away.

It hadn’t helped that none of his friends were in the same compartment; he was in one on his own for some time until some timid first years asked if they could join him. In all honesty, he hadn’t seen any of his friends since he arrived. Or on the train. So when he walked into the Great Hall that was taking over the thoughts of his future career.

His eyes scanned the room as he looked for anyone he knew, he was met with Cosette. A good friend of his from his own house, he could barely stop the wide bright smile taking over his lips. He briskly walked over to the girl watching her looking around the hall. As he got to her he almost jumped wrapping his arms around her and squeezing her tightly in a hug.

“Cosette!” He happily chimed pulling back from the hug and looking to her. A badge jumped out at him, she was Head Girl? “Congratulations on being Head Girl!” He suddenly said without thinking, he felt slightly embarrassed about the outburst but she was his friend. She was surely use to it.

“How was your Summer? Did you see anyone from Hogwarts?”

Back at Hogwarts. The man was glad they hadn't shut the school down. Over the extended holiday's he'd become quite antsy. He'd had things to do... but he was cut off from the wizarding world and a lot of the goings on were lost upon him. Not that the muggles were completely unaware of all that was wrong in the world. His mother had expressly forbidden him from getting the Daily Prophet or anything of the like; she didn't want to appear suspicious to their landlords; as she'd moved out of her parent's home sometime over the school year.

No one was more surprised than he when he was informed of his new prefect status. He'd been one year at Hogwarts and really had no idea what he was supposed to do. Luckily there'd been a prefect meeting in one of the compartments and he'd spent a great portion of the train ride patrolling... He had already congratulated Dave and Cosette on reaching the highly esteemed status of Head boy and girl. As it was their job to tell prefect of their duties. Alistair strode into the Great Hall. He didn't have time to glance around as the flood of people carried him to a table he was fairly certain wasn't his.

Alistair was shocked at the excitement that bounced through the Great Hall. Perhaps everything would be alright this year and they could go back to... just being. But it was never that easy. The group of students who had attacked them in the dungeons would still be at school. Maybe this year, they wouldn't escape. His knee bashed into the corner of the table that was not his as a rambunctious group of students passed him by and he decided he'd be better off sitting.

It took him a few moments of struggling, in which he was pretty sure someone tried to steal his prefect badge, to reach the Hufflepuff table in which he collapsed into a seat and let out a whooshing breath. His knee hurt. They had to be really strung up on Seventh Year male Hufflepuffs if he'd been chosen as Prefect, right? Or perhaps the events of last year had played rather positively for his character. Either way, he couldn't wait for the sorting to finish so he could eat. Someone from the younger year glanced over at him with wide eyes and he managed a grin. "Sorry, didn't mean to intrude, mate." Quick to apologize the man scooted some distance between the two and let his head sink into his hands. It felt good to be back. But...

Eme entered the Great Hall. Her summer had flown by, in spite of the extra months. As always there never seemed to be enough time to spend with everyone she wanted to spend it with. Plus, she'd had the take home exams to contend with and a boyfriend on top of everything else... It seemed that coming to school would be a break from how hectic her life had been during the break. But she knew better. Her exam scores had not been as high as she would have liked and she was dead set on doing better this year. She was still able to take all the elective she wanted but Emirye wanted to excel.

The Ravenclaw wasted no time getting to her table. She really had no choice in the matter. She paused at a group of Ravenclaw's congratulating Cosette on her highly esteemed status. "Hello, everyone." Emirye greeted cordially before sitting down close enough to be able to contribute to the conversation. "Congratulations, Cos. I hear Dave McKelvey made head boy." The woman grinned; not shooting at anything in particular. Eme just got the feeling the two wouldn't mind some extra time together. She stopped herself from asking about everyone's summers. Undoubtedly the question had already been asked at some point.

As it was she turned to crane her head and look for Grayson or Brynn... Though she would consider the group she was sitting with her friends she'd been through a lot more with those two particular Ravenclaws and wouldn't mind giving them hugs. She would be alright with knowing they hadn't spontaneously died as well. Anything to put her mind at ease. Oh, she really shouldn't have thought about the chances of someone close to her dying. She had a very large family to worry about and there was no room for added stress this year.

There was always something remarkably special about the first day of a new school year. Perhaps it was the excitement of a fresh start, or the excited faces of the first years as they anticipated the next seven years of their lives at Hogwarts. Grayson recalled how anxious he'd been entering the Great Hall for the first time. As he walked through the archway again it felt notably smaller than the first time he'd passed through it. It had seemed intimidatingly large to him as a first year. Grayson wanted to laugh at his sentimentality, he'd never quite been the sentimental type. He paused in the archway and inhaled the pleasant aroma of Hogwarts' food. He realized he'd truly missed everything about this place over the summer months. Hogwarts truly had become his home, the place he loved more than anything, despite everything that had happened there recently.

A number of students had already assembled at the Ravenclaw table, but his eyes immediately locked onto one person and his heart practically skipped a beat. Perhaps the thing he'd missed most about being at Hogwarts, Emirye Caraway. A smile immediately spread onto his face. He hadn't realized how much he'd missed seeing her everyday until right then. Grayson pushed through the crowds, making his way towards his girlfriend.

Words escaped him as he neared her. Grayson placed a hand on her shoulder and sat down next to her. "Good evening," he whispered. With that, Grayson moved his hand to her chin and leaned in to place a soft kiss on Eme's lips. As he pulled away he couldn't wipe away the smile that had formed on his face. Being with her again made him feel happy. These were definitely the things he'd missed over the summer holiday.

Ravenclaw Beater, Seventh Year

For the first time in several months, Terry was back at Hogwarts. Heck, it had been so long since he graced these halls with any trace of sanity, that he had completely forgotten how merry the damn place could feel. There were so much smiling and happiness radiating from corner, that Terry felt positively sick to his stomach. Not that the smiles were particularly strong, nor was the merriment not-entirely forced, but any happiness in light of so much previous darkness made him nauseous.

Sure, he was relatively sane compared to sixth year, but that may have only been because he didn't have some manipulative bitch hanging off his arm this year. It baffled the boy to recall the events of the past year. Why did he even begin trusting her in the first place? She seemed so nice and innocent at first, following him around like a lost puppy, sneaking off with him to snog in closets...but that was all turned out to be a false reality. Emily wasn't as innocent as she appeared, and instead attempted to wrestle information about the Defense Club out of him.

The boy had spent many warm, summer nights shuddering at the thought of even letting her touch him. It had driven him crazy to the point that he started taking his comfort in guys...a little too much comfort if he was being honest without himself. But that was all history. Everything was history, and only the future laid before him.

He wanted to redeem himself of all his failure from the previous year - put on a good face and show the school that he had changed, that he was good again. He decided to take his chances by sitting near his former-love, Cosette Bedeaux. What was the worse that could happen? That he could apologize? That needed to happen anyway.

He opened his mouth, cleared his throat, and spoke. "Hey, guys. Good summer?"
"They're in love. Fuck the war."

Emirye had apparently missed Grayson entering the Hall and turned to smile as his hand touched her shoulder. She wasn't given a chance to get her bearings as he finished his greeting with a kiss. A large sense of giddiness, mixed with a faint blush, flooded through her as she abruptly forgot about the others around her and any conversation she might have been holding. "Hi..." That wasn't quite the proper response to what he'd said, but her brain was too busy floating somewhere else to make the correction as she normally would have. All thoughts of doing well this year fled as she considered being able to spend time with him. Alone. It had been all but impossible over the summer. As it seemed she had family members sprouting out of the walls. She had felt incredibly sorry for him when he'd been introduced to her family. They made quite a loud and unstoppable force.

"It is, isn't it?" Right, that probably didn't make much sense. Well, she couldn't rightly be blamed for that. "A good evening, I mean." Emirye quickly reiterated, with a small smile. She didn't want to take her eyes off him. It really hadn't been that long since they'd seen each other. "It's nice being back." Despite the abrupt dismissal of the school term and what had caused it. She pursed her lips slightly before grinning. "I couldn't find you on the train, you weren't hiding from me, were you?" Eme murmured, teasing as always. She hadn't gotten any better at hiding her smile while doing so; the fact that she was now with Grayson made it that much harder. As it was her look of careful scrutiny was all but ruined.

Sixth Year - Gryffindor Chaser

Henry was relieved to be back at Hogwarts. The muggle world was pretty uneventful for him. Only his aunt and cousin made his summer good. He could rant and rant how it was still boring but Henry knew the only thing that he was waiting for was for his father to come back to him. But of course he didn't. This highly affected Henry's mood throughout the summer; he went out with his muggle friends occasionally to drink and fist fight with other people. Henry felt so reckless and selfish. And he hated himself for that. At least he was back at Hogwarts and he could correct all the mistakes he had made by pushing himself to study and be influenced by nice people. His friends at Hogwarts, he realized; were amazing. He should have hung out with Will or Jarrette over the summer holidays. He didn't though; he was scared that they would find out his burden and they might find it hilarious. Henry didn't want to be a laughing stock. So he just kept everything to himself.

After dropping his things at the dormitory, Henry walked into the Great Hall. It was fantastic how he realised that he was so hungry. Henry went to the Gryffindor table, sat down, and waited for his friends to come. While doing so, he waved at Eme and Athena across to Ravenclaw's table. There were some other people but he would just assume that hopefully they thought Henry was friendly enough to wave at everyone. He then turned back around to his table, and munched on his salad.

Ray was swept into the Great Hall along with the mass of students looking for a spot to sit. The atmosphere of the place was incredible. It was odd how everything could seem so exciting. It was such a stark contrast from what they had all left. A large part of Ray had not wanted to come back. But recent developments with a particular Gryffindor girl had made up his mind. She would be here and he wasn't going to miss a chance to be near her. He was slightly smitten, admittedly. Not that he would ever admit to something like that to anyone but her. Unfortuantely he did not see said female and searched for someone else to talk to.

The Gryffindor spotted Henry and made his way over. "Oi! How ya been?" He clapped his friend on the shoulder a bit more forcefully than necessary and collapsed onto the bench beside him. Ray was guitarless this particular night. Start of term feast always seemed more busy than other meals and he didn't want the instrument to get too banged up by excited first years. "How was your summer?" He was actually surprised they hadn't gotten together. There'd been a party at Jarrette's place and a bunch of their buddies had shown up. They hadn't really advertised for it, or anything. But it had still been pretty fun. A good way of relaxing and forgetting about the rest of the world.

"Thanks, Athena," Cosette replied. She shook her head and grinned. "Dunno what was going through their mind when they chose me, but. Can't complain now, can I? It means I get to break curfew rules." In all honestly, Cosette would never have imagined wearing the Head Girl badge. What she had done to deserve the position was still a mystery.

Cosette was pummeled by the weight and familiar scent of Francis Shaw, whose smiling face was one of the many she had most longed to see again. "Why thank you, sir," she laughed. "I missed you loads this summer. Both of you."

The next question caused Cosette a bit of unease. "No," she said glumly. "Dad was a nervous wreck. Didn't let any of us set foot out of the house all summer. Not unarmed, anyway. I think he knew about the incident in the dungeon." She stared at her feet for a moment and laughed. "Now, you imagine being shut up in a house with Anya for three months."

As more and more students approached the table, Cosette offered them greeting and accepted thanks. She saved one of her biggest grins for Emirye. "Thanks, Eme," she smiled. "Dave, honestly? You don't say." Although Cosette certainly was not surprised that McKelvey had been given the Head Boy badge, it seemed rather lucky that they'd be working together. Of course, Cosette did not think twice about it.

"Grayson, Terry," Cosette nodded as they joined the crew. The sight of Terry Boot was still incredibly nerve-wracking, although not in a good sense. Cosette had no idea where they stood. She'd hardly spoken to him since the night of the incident, (aside from relaying Defense Club orders to him) and she wasn't sure if she would be able to.

A part of Grayson would always enjoy making Emirye feel a little flustered. It would be such a disappointment if such an effect was lost on her over time. Grayson had become rather good at understanding Eme's responses whether they made a whole lot of sense or not. Completely understanding the mind of Emirye Caraway was a task not wholly possible to any mere mortal, but Grayson had become better at it over the course of several months. The boy put on a broad grin. "Correction, Miss Caraway, a great evening," he said with an obnoxious amount of enthusiasm. Perhaps he was going a bit overboard. He took a long drink of his pumpkin juice before setting his goblet back carefully on the table.

Grayson nodded in agreement. "It is, isn't it?" he mocked with a smile. In truth it was great being back despite everything. At least the school hadn't been closed down for good. That would have come as a shock to everyone. "Hiding from you?" Grayson repeated, shifting his gaze upward and letting out a sigh. "Fine, fine. You caught me." Grayson took Eme's hands in his own and looked into her eyes with as serious of an expression as he could manage. "This just... isn't working anymore. I thought you might take the hint from me avoiding you, but now I see that you are so blinded by your love that my subtly--," Grayson broke off to stifle a laugh. Teasing Eme came so naturally to him, while with others he rarely even smiled. One of the reasons he couldn't imagine being without her.

"Actually, Julianna was driving me to the station and she drives about as slow as my grandmother, so I barely made it on the train at all and by that time I figured I should just take the first compartment I saw available," Grayson explained. He glanced over when he heard his name spoken and gave a nod to Cosette. He'd never been quite certain about the girl. She seemed slightly intimidating. Then again, Grayson was easily intimidated. He offered a small smile and wave to his friend Francis. He'd barely seen him all summer. He'd barely seen anyone all summer besides Eme. There was definitely some catching up to do, but there was plenty of time for that.

Alexa had been hanging about the grande doorway to the Great Hall for some time now, subconsciously spinning her shining wedding band around her ring finger. She grit her teeth a little bit, waiting for someone she knew to arrive, luggage in tow, returning for their final year at Hogwarts. Alexa's mother hadn't wanted her here. Instead, she suggested homeschooling for the rest of the year, for her protection, but if anyone knew Alexa, they would know she'd absolutely refuse. Avalonna should have known that, before making such a decision. And so after their marriage, Lex and Alfie settled in together, and made the decisions on their own, for once in both of their lives. But for some strange reason, she wasn't much looking out for him. She knew that they would be together at some point throughout the day, but they had seen each other all summer, so the girl longed for one of her older friends, one of the girls. She wanted her old friends back, more than anything, but most of them had rejected her, after finding out her summer plans.

So she became the girl that waited, and waited, longing for company, and new ones at that.

"Prodigious even?" Her eyebrows rose at his exclamation but she found herself grinning regardless. Something about his smile... There had been a large part of her that had wanted to use the word 'exponential' even though it would have made little to no sense. "Or would that be too overzealous a descriptor for such an occasion, Mister Sharpe?" Yes, the evening was now an occasion. The grin broadened slightly, she was vaguely aware that she had completely missed Cos's response. But the Ravenclaw had a group of others talking to her. Eme doubted she'd be offended.

Emirye blinked as he mimicked her comment from earlier before smiling. There were reasons it wasn't so great being back, of course. There were pros and cons for entering any situation. If she were given the choice she would return here, always. She had a tendency for mishaps when studying by herself. Eme had been about to take a sip of water when Grayson's response stole her attentions once more. His hand sought out hers and he gave her this seemingly deep and meaningful look. It took her a few moments to realize what exactly he was saying. Her hand shot to cover the shocked expression that he had pulled before blushing, as realization swept through her, and then laughing with him. "You were doing so well too." In all honesty she felt rather safe in their relationship, she couldn't imagine things any other way. The thought that they might break up didn't even seem plausible. "You could atleast have the decency to break up with me without laughing!" Her tone took on a rather dramatic flare at this. Was it normal to joke about such things?

The Ravenclaw finally took a sip from her water as Grayson broke into the real explanation and her eyebrows rose once more. "Julianna drove you?" She didn't want to pry too hard core. "I'm certainly glad you made it in time." Eme quietly reiterated with a slight smile. Even as she considered Grayson hurrying. He didn't seem the type to rush anything and it was comical, to her, to imagine him pushing through the crowd of family members to get to the train... This was the first year where she'd only had one family member to say goodbye to. Everyone else had been busy. Not that she minded. It was just so odd not spending the greater portion of a half hour hugging people farewell. "I suppose I could find it in my heart to forgive you." Emirye reassured grandiosely after a moment's thought; a small smiled played across her features.

Grayson tilted his head to the side slightly as he considered her word choice. "Prodigious even," he agreed with a decisive nod. No doubt the pair could go on to create an extensive list of adjectives to describe the evening and no doubt they would enjoy doing so. It was not an activity completely out of character for them. Grayson grinned at the thought of how simply they were amused by such things. He wouldn't have it any other way though. As long as he was with Emirye he was having a good time. With anyone else he rarely ever put on a smile or let out a chuckle, but with her those things came easily. And in the moments when he could make her laugh or smile he felt equally as happy. Those had become the moments he enjoyed most. Being with her that evening did make the occasion merit the descriptor 'prodigious' indeed.

If anyone surrounding them could overhear their conversations they would be utterly confused by them. Grayson wasn't always even entirely sure what they were talking about. He grinned as a slight blush colored Emirye's cheeks. He was rather amused that she'd even bought his act for a second, though he knew he could pull off a very expression very well when he wanted to. That was normal expression anyway, though it was much harder to keep a straight face when he was teasing Eme. "You know, I'm not entirely sure of the proper decorum for breaking up with someone. You can't blame me for not being entirely aware that laughing was not acceptable," Grayson retorted defensively. Eme was always so good at playing along. Yes, an outsider to this conversation would be entirely confused by now. It was rather ridiculous the way they dramatically rambled on about things that had little to no meaning, but again, Grayson couldn't imagine it any other way.

"She really wasn't left with too much choice honestly. It was either that or deal with me having to wait for the next train. Mother and father were busy this morning with business," Grayson explained, finishing with 'as usual' in his mind. That probably wasn't entirely fair to Julianna. After all, she had driven him without much complaint, though he imagined that probably had been going through her mind when she agreed to it. He'd been trying to keep in mind during the duration of the summer that his sister wasn't all that bad. No, she had her good qualities. Like her focus and determination. Mainly on herself and when she wanted something, but still sometimes an admirable trait. Grayson grinned at the thought, always better to look on the bright side though he usually came right back to a negative. He returned his gaze to Em. "I certainly am as well. It would be torture waiting even a few extra hours to see you," Grayson said. "Could you really? That would mean the world to me. Your forgiveness is all I ask for."

Henry winced as Ray patted his back. 'Aren't we excited?' Henry grinned and also patted Ray on the back. That was what he was talking about; Hogwarts was more friendlier than any other place he'd ever been. Henry's mood lightened at the company of his good friend Ray. Although they didn't hang out on summer, Henry kind of wish he did. Why did he even kept his distance at anyone anyway? He sure would already been tired of not having company. That, Henry would change. From that moment he saw his best friend, he promised that he would not isolate himself from anyone. You're an emotional bastard, Henry. He thought to himself.

'Meh. Summer sucked. I didn't really do anything. You know, hung out with my reckless muggle friends and saved their asses. Although at some point one time I started a fight. Of course, without magic. I was just so bored.' He chuckled. Henry might have sounded dangerous if anyone heard of his summer holidays. But he knew Ray would not fret about anything. Henry would just need to be clear anyway. 'I mean, I'm not reckless. Well, maybe I was, but I was just bored man!' Everything was a joke for Henry. 'Anyway... How was yours? And where's your guitar man!' He again grinned at his best friend.

Emirye was only partially disappointed when he didn't pull out a grander adjective. She hadn't even realized it had turned into a game in her mind when he'd simply agreed with her word choice. Well, she had certainly been sorted into the right household. She couldn't imagine a Slytherin enjoying listening off words for a greater portion of the evening. It was more than that. Not so much the action of spurting out words but finding someone with who she could do it with.

It was getting harder for her not to laugh. What anybody else thought seemed to matter less when she was with him. She was glad no one had decided to interrupt them as of yet. It would be hard to explain and the odd sort of moment they were having would be lost. At this she did a spectacular job of feigning disinterest and took a dainty sip from her goblet. "Well, I imagine you'll know better for the next time you plan on ripping some poor girl's heart out-" She paused, her laughter lost upon her. "Though I suppose it would make sense to laugh, if you really didn't like the girl anymore. Like rubbing salt in the wound." Nauseating conversation redirection? Always. "That's really very clever of you." The Ravenclaw congratulated with a warm sort of smile that made absolutely no sense in context.

She of course knew that Grayson didn't particularly get on with his family and she didn't want to be the sort of girlfriend that constantly pried into such matters. But it really was with good intent that she tried to put a brighter spin on the melancholic response she had received; "Perhaps she was driving slowly because she enjoys your company." Or perhaps, being a witch, she just really wasn't comfortable driving a muggle contraption around... "We could have come picked you up..." She murmured thoughtfully, a point entirely moot because they were at the castle already. "Zooey wouldn't have minded. To quote her; 'He's ridiculously sweet, Eme. How'd you luck out? I keep dating jerks.'" She broke off with a small laugh and shook her head. She'd done a very poor job of imitating Zoe's girly tone.

Her gaze met his and she found herself grinning a bit more wistfully. It really wasn't fair of him to say such things. He really had way of sending her head into the clouds. Though what he said next brought her right back and she laughed appreciatively even as she reached out for his hand. "Aren't I lucky?" Emirye murmured thoughtfully, she finished the thought with a smile. "You really should make it harder for me to like you." Not that he could it he tried.

"Is it that obvious?" The Gryffindor questioned, he was having a hard time sitting still. He smirked over at his friend even as he resisted the urge to bop around in his seat. There wasn't any music playing that could be heard but he'd had a tune playing through his head that was just itching to be grooved to. "I'm full of energy, man. Pumped, I guess. I've got a good vibe about tonight." Not that any of that made sense. Every once in awhile he made references to 'the flow of things' but they were generally short winded and not really very important. What had possessed him to leave his guitar behind?

Realizing he'd been tapping the beat out on the table he quickly stopped and tried to be a more supportive friend as he listened to Henry's explanation. Made him feel bad that he hadn't done a better job of inviting people to the party. Ray's eyebrows rose and he laughed along with the guy. "Hey, at least you made it back in one piece." The Gryffindor stretched his arms our after and rolled his neck around. "Extended break sort of sucked. I mean, a bunch of us got together at Jar's place, it's too bad you weren't there, man, it was wicked." He paused and thrummed his fingers against the table. "Got together with Hanna over the break too." Ray finished this sentence with a wink and laughed.

"My guitar? I don't know why I didn't bring it with me! I didn't want it to get beat to pieces by the crowds..." Ray glanced around at the swarm of pieces before shrugging. "It's too bad, I've got this sick tune running through my head that I want to play out..." He perked up slightly. "We should jam when we get to the common. It's been awhile since I've played with anyone." At this he controlled some of energy and instead focused on the task of filling his plate with food.

Baker was just finishing his patrol, having confirmed the most crucial stations of Enforcers and Aurors around the castle were in order, when he strode towards the Great Hall. The corridors were already empty as all of the students were expected to await the sorting. Except, not entirely. Soft but steady whimpering didn't escape Brock's ears as he rounded a corner to find a small, round-faced boy sitting by a wall with something brown and furry in his hands.

"Let me guess,"
the Auror started, closing the distance between them, "Hufflepuff?"

The boy sniffled loudly but otherwise stopped crying. "What is a Huff-hlepuff?" he asked while drying his cheeks with his sleeve, glad someone finally found him, even though the man didn't seem particularly friendly.

That only confirmed for Brock that the kid was an unsorted First Year to-be. "Hell if I know," he smirked. "But more importantly, how can someone possibly get lost even before getting sorted? That has to be a record. What are you, five?" He must have said the words exactly as he meant them because the boy's lower lip began to tremble. "Oh, don't start again, bawling won't fix anything," Brock interrupted quickly and offered the child a hand, "come on, you can still make it."

The boy, who later introduced himself as Jeffrey, without being prompted to, sniffled again and wiped his nose with his right hand before brushing it against his trousers. Then he used the same hand to grab Brock's and stood up. The new professor made a face, asking him whether he knew what a handkerchief was, and led him down the corridor. On the way, Jeffrey revealed himself as a rather talkative person and explained how he got lost because his rat, Shaggy, had run away from him.

Brock pushed the doors to the Great Hall open with his free hand and pulled the youngster, whose face was still tinted red from crying but maintained a happier expression, behind him towards the staff table. The man wasn't in as good disposition since he felt tired from the strain of trying not to bring the little guy to tears again. That required little or no speaking from his part. However, a sly smirk slowly formed on his lips as he noticed Scarecrow at the long table. A plan was formed in a blink of an eye.

As they were almost reaching the door to a chamber where all the eleven-year-olds no doubt waited, he kneeled down before his escort. "Listen, you don't want your rat to get lost again, do you?" As the boy shook his head, he continued. "Now there's a really nice lady," Brock motioned to the Transfiguration Professor, "who loves pets and would like nothing more than to look after it before you're sorted. So, if you go to her and give her your-" "Shaggy," Jeffrey interrupted proudly. "-Shaggy, then you don't have to worry about him, and join your friends through this door."

Jeffrey smiled at Brock brightly and nodded quickly. As soon as he let go of him, the boy ran up to Hiccups, with the Auror following closely behind. He practically threw the rat onto the woman's lap with a happy word of thanks before spinning around and disappearing behind the side door. As he sat down on a chair next to the woman, Brock knew he'd never had such a hard time trying not to laugh. In fact, his jaw quickly began to hurt from how tightly he clenched it.

Transfiguration Professor

This year was only getting more stressful as time passed on. She wasn't really fit to be a Head of House, in her opinion. The thought that she would have to advise the Fifth years in what they could possibly do in the future was utterly terrifying. She knew little to nothing about the students she was teaching. Much less what they were capable of. As it was she'd worked the situation up so much in her mind that she was absolutely positive the Ravenclaw house would fall into ruins. Halcyon wasn't the best advice giver, neither was she particularly good at speaking... in general. This was terrible. Not that she'd been able to bring it up with the Headmistress. She'd arrived early, for once in her life, and had spent a greater portion of time chewing her nails and staring dejectedly at the Ravenclaw table.

It thus came as a very great shock when a rat was flung into her lap. A frightened and entirely confused sounding squeak forced its way out of her. Forced, because she had been quite determined not to scream at the top of her bloody lungs. It was rather impressive considering she was also fighting back the urge to fling the creature from her and jump around like a mad person. The rat fidgeted in her lap and she felt her stomach churn uncomfortably. A round face boy, who she assumed the rat belonged to, yelled out a 'thanks' before disappearing to whence he had come. "Uh-Uhm..." It was then she realized Brock had taken a seat beside her and she felt her entire body tense. It didn't take her long to connect the auror to the rat and she picked the poor bugger up. The rat, still unsure as to why it had been flung so unceremoniously, was trembling visibly.

"Bet you think that's funny." The woman muttered irritably, her heart finally recovering from the shock of the situation. At the sight of him a lot of the irritation fled and her eyebrows rose. There were a few comments that immediately came to mind, but she doubted her ability to properly express them and merely took pleasure in the fact that he was turning purple as he resisted the urge to laugh at how deviously clever he was. At this, she placed the rat on the table. Pet rats weren't a problem for her; as long as they weren't gnawing on her. This one seemed placated, for now. Or too frightened to do more than breathe heavily. "Go bite him." The Transfiguration Professor quietly urged. Fat lot of good her prodding did, the rat collapsed onto his side and continued panting. There was a terrifying moment when she considered the rat might be having a heart attack-

Unfortunately she knew little about rats. Or how to tell if they were dying. There was a small moment of panic where she considered telling that poor child the bad news... and she watched, slightly horrified, for a few moments. But the panting seemed to lessen and she breathed a small sigh of relief. After which she turned her gaze to Brock and might have demanded an explanation had the words not died abruptly in her throat. The rat, as if in sudden realization that it was alive, darted across the table and Halle lunged for it instinctively. A few goblets were knocked over in the process- but her hand encircle the rat and she sat back down, sufficiently humiliated. "Thu-This isn't my pro-" Her rage was cut short as the rat bit her finger and she flung him, and a good chunk of skin, at Brock. Whoops.
