| Welcome to Hogwarts Interactive Role Play, one of the net's best in Harry Potter and Hogwarts role plays. We hope you enjoy your visit. Here at Hogwarts our students are currently in their Seventh Year. Last year, the war against the Knights crescendoed into a direct attack against the school. Disappearances are still reported (or not) daily, and the Dark Lord and his Knights of Walpurgis have succeeded in spreading their message of "do as thou will" far and wide across the globe. Magical Law Enforcement, which is now the only authority in the wizarding world under Martial Law, has responded by tightening security, controlling the media, and strictly enforcing curfews and other laws. Their control is damaging to the people's freedom, and their hierarchy is a suspicious lot. It is clear that some members of the MLE like their new found power a bit too much, others see it necessary, but all are in serious danger of being consumed by it. But with the picture of just what Azariah Amaranth is after becoming ever clearer, and a third player in the form of a group called SAVIOR entering the scene, what will the MLE do next to ensure that they've got the situation under control? The Elementium, the Higher Plane that had once been hidden just beyond the veil in the Department of Mysteries, and the Deathly Hallows. The pieces of the puzzle have been identified, but what picture do they make? Today is Day 1 of Year Seven. Students have had time to recover from the Knight's attack, and are beginning to reluctantly return to the walls of Hogwarts. The safety of the school has been diminished, bringing up the question everyone must ask. Are you safe anywhere these days? It's up to each individual to decide their fate, where will you decide to go? You're currently viewing our forum as a guest. Addie Lumineux's tirade tore Kemp's attention from the unwanted intruder. He stared down her, his disbelief more angry and terrible than it had been at Tortal. "You," said Kemp, advancing to towards the girl's desk, "are just a child. What do you know of what is real and what is skewed How could you possibly fathom my reasoning--not when I have the entire fate of wizard-kind to think about?" Kemp towered over the girl in a powerful display of dominance. He was more than angry: Addie's words had cut him deep because they questioned his intentions. Kemp had been insulted in the worst way, and Kemp did not take kindly to such an insult. Edited by Abraxas Kemp, Jan 2 2012, 11:57:21 PM.

!Xabbu was was frightened for Addie. He hadn't cared that Kemp had insulted his beliefs. It never meant anything to him that no one outside of his dwindling community believed the things he did. Addie didn't have to do that-- --or, perhaps, !Xabbu thought, perhaps she did... !Xabbu was reminded of Beloved Porcupine and how she stood up to the All-Devourer, her father, who had just eaten the very world itself and all that she knew and loved, save for her two sons. ...perhaps she did have to do that. |

"I turn seventeen in five days. Which by magical law is adulthood. I would hardly consider myself a child. But, that's not how I'm going to justify myself." Addie gazed up at Kemp, narrowing her eyes slightly. She kept her voice level. She was not afraid of him, and she wanted him to know it. She heard Dave's warning, but she was already committed. Even if they weren't saying anything, she felt that her peers backed her. Maybe Kemp would sense it as well. "We've grown up in the midst of war and terror. I've fought the Knights during attacks on the school, along with my peers. I watched my mother die in front of me. I attacked Azariah at the Quidditch World Cup. That's how I know what's real and what's skewed. I've fought more openly against the Knights than you or any of your men. "Tell me, what use have you and your attack dogs been? You never found my missing boyfriend, or tried from the looks of it. You never stopped any attacks on the school, or the ministry. As far as I'm concerned, the power of the MLE may as well be wild posturing and supersition." Addie continued to gaze at Kemp, never moving her eyes from his. He knew that she was brave, and outspoken in her bravery. She'd shown him that in the first JAA meeting. The only difference was this time her comments were directed at him. The quality he'd respected was now frustrating him. Edited by Addie Lumineux, Jan 3 2012, 12:36:26 AM.

As impossible thought it seemed, Kemp's jaw tightened and continued to grow even tighter. His face was tinged with red. "I will hear none of this," he growled. His nostrils flared as he lost all composure and got right up in the girl's face. "You have no idea what it takes. And I've no reason to explain my methods or my reasoning to young witches and wizards--even seventeen year olds. There are numerous practical concerns that you could not fathom, could not--..." Kemp sighed. He looked around, realizing that he was being watched by his colleagues, a Professor, and several students. He straightened up and took a deep breath. His expression softened into something resembling pity. And he did pity her. He also envied her. He envied all of them. "I'm sorry," he said, "I can't expect you to understand why I have done the things I have done. You're still young, and terrible things have happened to you. All of you." He looked around at the students with sincerity. "But it is such practical matters that I am concerned with as to how to ensure that those responsible pay for what has been to you all," said Kemp, "and it is practicality I demand from a Hogwarts professor." He looked to Professor Tortal, pointedly. "It seems practical intelligence is something that is sorely lacking here." Edited by Abraxas Kemp, Jan 3 2012, 12:41:21 AM.

She was frustrated, but she did her best not to show it. She didn't want his pity, and she was embarrassed that he'd managed to reel himself in and act as though she'd been having a fit when she'd been collected the entire time. There were so many other things she could have said; that she wanted to say but couldn't. Things like: the elementium aren't inherently bad, I know because I'm an elementus. Or: Belleford and the professors at this school are part of a group called SAVIOR that's trying to stop Azariah. You really shouldn't be against them. Or even: The Defence Club is only learning to protect itself, it's not anything dangerous. He only knew part of the truth, which is why is orders were skewed. |

Dave sat and witnessed Addie's tirade against Kemp, his brow hardened as he nodded along with every point she made. She was absolutely right: Kemp and the aurors were doing nothing useful in terms of finding Tristan and defending the school. His resolve only hardened when Kemp spat back at Addie, and he felt a seething anger within himself when he openly refuted her claims, which were far from baseless. Dave clenched his fists when Kemp finally broke down and got in Addie's face. It was too much; this wasn't supposed to happen. No. This injustice should not stand. When Kemp finally stepped away from Addie, leaving her standing there, presumably shaken from his outburst, Dave did something, something a Slytherin should never do. He stood up. In very Gryffindor-like fashion, Dave stood up. Never in a million years did he dream that he would stand and put his neck on the line for someone else under such extreme circumstances, but he did. Here he was, a Slytherin, standing as equals with a Gryffindor, defying the very head of the magical world. Although Dave's aspirations for greatness and self-preservation were what made him a Slytherin at heart, he was just as infinitely brave and loyal when it came to his friends; he refused to allow house colours to be the defining factor of his personality. Dave stepped forward and stood behind Addie but did not say anything. Instead, he simply placed a hand on her shoulder, as if to tell her that she did not stand alone, staring at Kemp with a look of defiance. OOC: DC MEMBERS STAND UP NOW. WE ARE STICKING IT TO THE MAN. |

"Pracitcal intelligence?" Alistair couldn't help but scoffing. "Not quite the speech I was expecting after a display like that." Kemp had seemed slightly insane, breathing down Addie's neck after such a simple show of dissent; a girl Alistair suddenly found he quite liked. Actually, he'd had half a mind to trip Kemp when he'd gone storming down the bloody isle. Enough of this we're diligent students' crap. They weren't young enough to be blind to such wrongdoings. Sooner or later the young needed to learn how to be old, how to take control and go their own way... In years before he wouldhave never imagined speaking against an authority figure. It did help, however, that Dave was now standing in defiance of 'the man'. It was always easier to speak up when you knew your views were shared. Alistair pushed his chair backwards and stood in, now silent, defiance along with Dave and Addie. Kemp was not God, perhaps he needed to be reminded of this. |

Facing the front of the class, Beth was surprised to hear Addie actually speak up behind her. Despite not harboring such hostile feelings towards the Head of MLE, the Hufflepuff was engulfed by a wave of awe and respect for Addie. She had done what Beth secretly whished she'd had the guts to do herself. And the Gryffindor had been absolutely right. No matter what Beth believed were Kemp's intentions, he hadn't done anything to make the students feel safer. In fact, all his precautions seemed to have an exact opposite effect. As the fuming man made his way to Addie, Beth pushed away from the desk slightly, almost fearing he might even hurt her. Although that hadn't happened, Beth refused to be fooled by his speech this time. Couldn't he see his way of protecting the students didn't work at all? Putting down a student with some reasonable arguments or a Professor who actually taught them something useful wasn't going to win him any more favor. Beth turned around again just in time to see Dave standing up as well, taking a stand behind Addie, soon joined by Alistair. Her lips parted slightly as she took in the determination in their eyes. Clenching her jaw, Beth surprised even herself by getting up and rounding a desk to join her three friends. Suddenly her number one goal wasn't to become an Auror as it had always been - it was to stick with the people she cared about no matter what. Edited by Beth Snape, Jan 3 2012, 05:52:55 PM.

Addie's eyes widened in the silence, hearing the first chair squeak behind her. Someone had stood to join her! The reassuring hand that soon touched her shoulder, and a brief glance from the corner of her eye told her it was Dave. Addie felt a little of her embarrassment fade. Despite how she felt after Kemp's rebuttal her peers still supported her. This was further reinforced as Alistar and Beth stood and moved behind her. It was wholly unexpected, but it brought a faint smile to her lips. At least not everything was bad, she still had her friends. |

Addie was soon joined in her protest by Dave, and, following Dave, Beth Snape was next to stand up. Now, he realized, was the time of reckoning. There was no turning back now, and he must join his friends. True to the words he'd said to Azariah when their minds touched at the World Cup incident over two years ago, !Xabbu was not about to sit back and watch anymore. Even if he did not know then, or even now did he have the slightest idea, what he's meant by those words. He stood up. He looked Kemp straight in the eye, and he looked at Professor Tortal and he knew the truth. There was no magic or superstition involved--his logic and his heart knew what he had to say. "Please," he said, "Mr. Kemp, you're only helping Azariah, and you don't even realize it. He wants this. You can stop him from getting what he wants this time." |

Ian did not rise up the others. His body twiched as the energy of the room carried others on to their feet as one--mob mentality was taking over. Not always a bad thing. How else were people to unite for a common goal? Its energy touched Ian for a moment, and for an instant, Ian's body seemed to shift towards standing. But Ian's fear kept him one and separate from the others. He glanced over to the other Slytherins in the class. Aside from Dave, no one else rose to join the show of populist anger. Ian even thought that all of this was foolish. What would it change? Kemp would put this down, shut them up, and send them off to their next class. What did they think they were going to accomplish? Ian wasn't about to throw himself at the enemy. He took was seemed to him to be the sensible road and wait under the cover darkness for the right opportunity, and though he did not know what that might be, he did not think it was now. And what the hell was !Xabbu on about? It hit Ian, a moment later as he watched what was to happen next: Azariah wants people to hate the M.L.E. and everything they represent. Kemp was making that all possible, and Azariah would play on everyone's distrust of the ruling body of power and the implications of the ineffectiveness of their rule. But nothing stirred in Ian to rise. |

Abraxas was quickly losing control of the classroom. His heart was pounding in his chest as if he were battling an enemy. What could he do to regain control of the situation. He did not think force would be appropriate in this situation, yet his hand somehow found his wand in his cloak. "All of you sit down if you please," Kemp bellowed loudly, yet calmly, at the students, "If you do not comply, my enforcers and I will have no choice but to use spells. Please, for your own safety, cease and desist." Kemp looked to his enforcers, and to Valdemar, telling them silently that they should be ready to use non-leathal force at his command. It would be no problem for them to use any number of their spells to apprehend students without harming them, if it came to that. He then looked to Professor Tortal. "You're responsible for them," said Kemp, "Do something." |

Dave suddenly felt his face burning and his body shudder when he stood with Addie, but nerves subsided and a feeling of gratitude washed over him when Alistair, Beth, and !Xabbu all stood up with them. Dave couldn't help but smile when his fellow defense club members joined the opposition, especially because he knew that, they too, had much to lose. Dave looked around the room for a moment and noticed Ian shifting in his seat. Although Ian was a member of the defense club, he showed no intention of getting to his feet. Dave's first reaction was very negative, but he quickly realized that Ian was wise not to reveal himself as supporting the defense club, whereas Dave's loyalty to his friends, not his house, was already well known, Ian was probably one of their last links to the Squires and the darker side of Slytherin house. This, of course, was assuming that he wasn't just saving his own neck. "Why don't you fucking try it, you piece of shit," Dave spat angrily at Kemp when he threatened them with force. He took a step forward, standing in front of Addie, prepared to shield his friends with his elementium if it came down to it. "If word of you and your goons using force to control students gets out, I guarantee you that you'll have a hell of a time doing your job in the future, so I would suggest you reconsider," Dave threatened, his voice sounding calm, which was contrasted by his body language, as his teeth and knuckles were clenched. His eyes darted between Kemp and his aurors, who suddenly appeared much more alert after Dave had stepped forward. |

This time it was Addie's turn to reach out and clutch at Dave's shoulder, somewhat warily. The girl's eyes darted around the room, sizing up Kemp and his aurors. She really hoped that Dave wasn't planning on doing anything stupid--anything that would actually expose them as a club, or as having unwarranted magical ability. "I think we should be calm about this. Sir, why in the world would you feel the need to impose force on us when we're just standing here? We haven't done anything violent or threatening. I believe we are in our right to stand if we feel like it." She focused on Kemp over Dave's shoulder, keeping herself collected. "And Dave is right, parents and wizards in general would be in an uproar if the people who are supposed to be here to protect us struck down five students." She could feel her stomach twisting nervously. She'd just wanted her position to be known, she hadn't wanted any violence to arise from it. |

Standing up to support her friends had been a quick decision, one she hadn't even thought about it twice. But now that they were facing the MLE, a pure cold fear settled deep within her bones. Kemp's threatening voice and Dave's reaction to it didn't help one bit and, instinctively, the girl pressed a little closer to a boy on her right - Alistair. Quite uncharacteristically, her trembling fingers reached out and grasped his hand tightly; all the while she didn't dare to let her sight slip away from Kemp. Somehow, the presence of her friends gave her the nerve to speak up again. "That's right," Beth agreed with Addie and !Xabbu, hating the quiver in her voice. "How do you hope to effectively fight Amaranth when all you do is bear down on students and professors of Hogwarts? We're not your enemies." She just had to finally voice her thoughts over the past few months, but even the dominating optimistic part of her was in doubt on whether the members of Defense Club would be willing to leave their grudges behind and unite with the MLE for the same goal. |

Dave relaxed slightly when Professor Tortal spoke up. He had half expected the professor to admonish his students for their response to Kemp, but instead he seemed pleased with their response. Dave should have expected it of the professor; Tortal was known for his unorthodox, yet effective, teaching methods, and Dave found that he had a newfound respect for the man for allowing his students to have their say. He was certain that Tortal would not have allowed his students to come to harm at the hands of the aurors. No one moved when Professor Tortal dismissed the class; it was if they were afraid that they would be cursed for moving for the door. When Kemp and the aurors showed no signs of stopping them, Dave took a deep breath and turned around, returning to his desk to retrieve his bag. Slightly fearful that he may be arrested for his outburst, Dave attempted to act casual and picked up his things, making small talk with the students around him as he did so. On the outside he appeared calm, but internally his system was still flushed with adrenaline from the threat of being attacked by the aurors, and he continually wondered if he would be leaving the classroom in shackles. When he finally threw his bag over his back, Dave approached Addie and stood on the spot, looking at her as if to convey his apprehension. If he was going to exit the room, he didn't want to do it alone. |

Relief washed through her at their professor's dismissal, Addie remained silent for a long moment, nodding to professor Tortal faintly. She shared a little of Dave's apprehension, but it was divided between their safety and Tortal's. If they managed to make it past Kemp and his aurors, what would happen to Tortal once the class emptied? She doubted he'd be able to talk his way out of the situation. The girl followed Dave's example and gathered up her things, slinging her bag over her shoulder. As Dave hesitated beside her she put on as brave a face as she could in the situation and made her way to the door, focusing on the goal and sensing Dave close behind. None of the aurors seemed entirely sure on whether they should stop them or not, and before they could decide Addie and Dave had left the classroom. |

Alistair blinked in shock as a hand gripped his- he had been so tense he felt he might rip the head of anyone who approached him. Though the simple action, coming from someone he trusted actually did a large deal in relaxing him. He'd been a bit too worked up about the whole thing, he might have done something stupid. The Hufflepuff glanced over at Beth, feeling her hand tremble, and gave her the most reassuring smile he could manage even as his hand gripped hers back just as tightly. It was probably because of this that he was able to restrain himself when Kemp threatened those who stood in defiance of him. Everyone remained civil and level headed while pointing out Kemp's flaws, which was always more effective than charging in like a bull and making a mess of things, as he might have done. It wasn't normal for him to lose his cool, he always thought things through before speaking or acting where consequences might apply. It was good that Tortal dismissed the class and appeased Tortal, though spmething still felt off about the situation. With a small jolt he realized his hand still gripping Beth's; he released her with a more easy-going smile. "Didn't see that one coming, eh? I'll see you in Herbology...?" The question seemed unsure, his voice sounded small in comparison to what had just occured. He didn't wait for an answer, he felt shaken to his core, his blood still beating through his veins... Deftly he went through the act of picking up his things, checked to make sure he still had his wand and followed Dave and Addie out of the class. /post 200 finally! trolol Edited by Alistair York, Jan 6 2012, 06:10:38 AM.

The girl's eyes closed briefly as she let out a breath she had been unaware of holding. Glancing at others to confirm they were truly allowed to leave, she caught Alistair's smile and her cheeks heated up at the realization she was still holding his comforting hand. Releasing it, she sent him a small grateful smile with a low 'yeah...' as a response to his answer and pondered over her scaredy-cat reaction. At least she took that stand, unlike some others, but she kind of understood why Ian hadn't. Passing Addie, !Xabbu and Dave on her way back to her desk, Beth's thoughts went to what was going to happen to her now favorite professor when he was alone with Kemp. And she likely wasn't the only one to worry about that. For a while Beth busied herself with mundane tasks until she was one of the last students remaining in the class, then took her bag and, with a nod to the professor, slipped out of the class, instantly pressing her ear against the door's wooden surface from the other side. Wondering when her curiosity will finally catch up with her, Beth reassured herself that with upcoming Herbology in a few minutes she wouldn't be able to indulge her vice for long. |
