| Welcome to Hogwarts Interactive Role Play, one of the net's best in Harry Potter and Hogwarts role plays. We hope you enjoy your visit. Here at Hogwarts our students are currently in their Seventh Year. Last year, the war against the Knights crescendoed into a direct attack against the school. Disappearances are still reported (or not) daily, and the Dark Lord and his Knights of Walpurgis have succeeded in spreading their message of "do as thou will" far and wide across the globe. Magical Law Enforcement, which is now the only authority in the wizarding world under Martial Law, has responded by tightening security, controlling the media, and strictly enforcing curfews and other laws. Their control is damaging to the people's freedom, and their hierarchy is a suspicious lot. It is clear that some members of the MLE like their new found power a bit too much, others see it necessary, but all are in serious danger of being consumed by it. But with the picture of just what Azariah Amaranth is after becoming ever clearer, and a third player in the form of a group called SAVIOR entering the scene, what will the MLE do next to ensure that they've got the situation under control? The Elementium, the Higher Plane that had once been hidden just beyond the veil in the Department of Mysteries, and the Deathly Hallows. The pieces of the puzzle have been identified, but what picture do they make? Today is Day 1 of Year Seven. Students have had time to recover from the Knight's attack, and are beginning to reluctantly return to the walls of Hogwarts. The safety of the school has been diminished, bringing up the question everyone must ask. Are you safe anywhere these days? It's up to each individual to decide their fate, where will you decide to go? You're currently viewing our forum as a guest. Athena gave both the Slytherin guys a dark stare. 'Oh hey, if it isn't Mr. You-know-it-all. How's that oversized brain of yours going? If I were you Ian, I'd shut up.' And to Dave, she said, 'Apparently, from my sister Janice, you were one of the hottest guys in Slytherin. But you know what I think? I think she needs a pair of specs.' As she finished her rant, she looked at her best friend Beth and winked. They've always been a team until she started going out with John. Athena was a bit frustrated that her life was all tangled. She raised her eyebrows as Kemp entered the room. 'What... the hell.' She was okay with Kemp, it was just the presence of an MLE officer made her feel uncomfortable. Athena sat back down and turned to face the people behind her. Thank gosh they were all Ravenclaws. 'Hey guys. How are you?' Athena smiled. She knew who Harold and Lithia were but she didn't know the other girl beside Harold. 'Are you new? I'm Athena by the way.' She again grinned and turned to face her boyfriend. 'How rude were those Slytherin boys, huh?' She noted. 'I really hate how this class is going now. Oh well. As if I have a choice.' Athena quickly kissed John's cheek and went back to writing notes on her parchment. |

For what felt like the millionth time that morning, Dave surged with surprise when none other than Precious Hindert approached and took a seat beside him. This was probably the first time they had interacted since... well, Dave didn't even remember. When she walked over, Dave eyed her with a certain yearning, biting his lip and raising an eyebrow, and when she spoke to him, as he had been secretly hoping she would, he returned her interaction with a smile. Dave opened his mouth to respond to Precious when he was rudely interrupted by Athena, who began by berating Ian, and then moved on to Dave, who had hardly said anything at all. Dave simply returned her gaze while she finished her spiel, sighing with disinterest. He raised his eyebrows at her when she finished, as if to say "are you done?", and maintained this face until she turned around. What she had said didn't particularly bother him. In fact, the idea that Janice thought so highly of him worked to inflate Dave's ego quite a bit. He smiled smugly at the idea. The thoughts didn't last for long, however, as Dave remembered that Precious had just sat beside him and shot a greeting his way, which was, given their history, a significant event. "Hey Babe," Dave greeted the girl with a nonchalant tone, as if they hadn't been apart at all. Dave smiled and casually looked her up and down, simply taking in the sight of what had been his for so long. His eyes shot towards her neck in an attempt to see if she still wore their locket, but he wasn't able to tell without making his actions obvious, so he settled for simply taking in the view. |

Seventh Year Harold the Great

Although he had a faint idea who the girl was, having been housemates for so long, Harold regretted not getting to know Lithia better or approaching her before. He really should spend less time in the a library with his nose buried in a book and socialize some more. He used to be more outgoing before, but wanting to do well in all his subjects with increasing amount of homework and difficulty in every one of them made that side of his diminish. "Nice," he said accepting her hand, repaying the smile, "I'm Harry. It's kinda odd how people manage to unwittingly avoid each other for years, don't ya think?" Despite it being only one school, Hogwarts was fairly large. "Well, it's probably nothing to be worried about," the boy shrugged, speaking in a noticeably quieter tone. Kemp had always seemed to be a respectable guy and Harry truly believed he wasn't as bad as most of his schoolmates though. Then again, he had always found it hard to take sides. Why would Kemp even want to disrupt their class, anyway? Although Harold found Tortal to be almost frightening on occasion, he couldn't complain about his teaching skills or hands-on methods. And Concepts was one of the more difficult subjects to grasp. Just then he heard someone speak from a chair on his other side. He hadn't even noticed anyone sitting down, but turned around to face a girl he was pretty sure he'd never seen before. "Bonjour right back," he responded in his rarely ever used thick American accent, offering her his hand. "It's Harold the Great," he said glamorously, and then winked, "but you may call me Harry." Especially in this last year he had grown distant from his own house, since he had spent all of the little free time available with his Gryffindor girlfriend. But that wouldn't entirely explain why he had never noticed the, quite lovely, girl before. Before he could ask himself, Athena voiced his thoughts. "Hey, Thena. Peeves attempted to throw garlic at me, on my way here, claiming I was a vampire - so same old," he grinned at the recollection of his earlier encounter with the infamous ghost, which was the main reason behind his lateness. "I'm not, I swear," Harry added defensively, lifting his upper lip with a finger to show his canine. "Whook!" |

The piercing voice of Athena Bellchambers was enough to make Precious glance away from the scene. She was making herself look stupid. Above anything, Precious would be calling herself a hypocrite. Remember when she used to make scenes? The thought made her roll her eyes. She had been so immature, so blinded by her ego to realize how much a fool she made herself to be. Precious gritted her teeth, annoyed with the Ravenclaw bimbo. Dave's voice calmed her. Babe? She turned in her seat to fully face him. The word made her stomach queasy. It had been... What? A year since they broke up? No, she couldn't remember. During their time apart though, she had held a real harsh grudge against him. But that was long ago. Things were different now. "How are you?" It felt like this was their first encounter ever. She didn't remember being so nervous. Precious smiled again. "It's been... a while." Edited by Precious Hindert, Dec 14 2011, 11:14:23 AM.

Glad Ian hadn't come up with anything worse, Beth was happy to let the incident go. Then Athena decided to take a stand and Beth visibly cringed in her chair as she addressed Dave. The Hufflepuff was aware Athena didn't know and should never find out about what had happened on the Quidditch Pitch nearly two months ago. Not to mention the two girls had never really talked since Beth had found out who was her best friend's boyfriend was. Suffice to say Beth didn't feel okay with one of her friends berating another either. Especially after the guilty look Dave sent her earlier. Therefore, Beth couldn't find it in her to give Athena any more than a small rueful smile. They really needed to talk afterwards. Sighing softly, Beth leaned back into her chair and couldn't help but overhear parts of Ian and Dave's conversation. It wasn't hard to put two and two together. The girl froze. Was Kemp really there because he knew what Professor Tortal had been teaching? This was supposed to be a discussion about what they had went over so far. What if anyone mentioned the Elementium? Just then, as if it had been yesterday, a jumble the Professor's words resurfaced in her mind. "Kemp only blindly persecutes that which is most misunderstood ... one of the many things the M-L-E has required the staff to find and report..." Of course he must have meant Elementium just as much as Volatilis, Beth realized. Add to that the anti-Elementium training in Kemp's academy and her concern grew tenfold. That was just bad, bad, bad. The girl couldn't think of anything else to do so she gripped her quill tightly to the point of breaking it and wished silently that Dave was wrong. Behind her she could distantly hear Precious join the Slytherin duo, but her mind was elsewhere. |

Cosette had been sitting contently with a few Ravenclaw cohorts - Lith, Harry, Athena, and an unfamiliar brunette who seemed pleasant enough - when tragedy struck in the form of Abraxas Kemp. The hair on her neck stood straight. Though it was implied that Kemp meant well, he had an undeniably sinister aura about him. "My god," Cosette whispered to her table. "They're in the classrooms, too?" She felt uneasy. |

She shrugged then nodded her head laughing slightly, " Yeah, that is a bit odd. she said smiling then looked up to Kemp and Tortal for a brief moment then looked back to Harry. She heard someone say hello to Harry, and while he convered with her, Lithia turned to look at her friend Cosette who she felt like she hasn't seen in like forever. " Hey, Cosette. Seems like forever since I lost spoke to you. You doing alright?" She asked, she was concerned for her friend a bit, she had been rather distantly lately. She gave her a reassuring smile then leaned back in the chair, her brow raised at her comment glancing to Kemp then turned back to her friend. "Yeah, I guess they're watching the classes now too..." she said softly, she took her quill and started to doodle on the bottom corner of her parchment. She finished her little doodle, which just a flower although for a doodle it had quite a bit of detail in it. She was always very artistic, her parents quite enjoyed that of her. Her art and photography were something her parents were both proud of, but decided she needed to be in Hogwarts instead of anywhere else. Plus, Lith really enjoyed it here and wouldn't trade it for anything else. |

"I know!" Dave said softly with a laugh, not sure how to respond. Precious had turned to face him, looking more... human... than Dave had ever expected of her. His eyes met with hers, and he scanned the features of her face, smiling earnestly as he did. What was happening? "I've been alright, I guess," Dave responded with a bit of a shrug. "Same old Dave, you know," he declared with a grin. Dave laughed a little uneasily, not sure what to make of the situation. In an instant, the fact that Kemp had come into the classroom had completely disappeared from his mind, and Dave's world, for a moment, seemed to be in perfect harmony. He looked around the class casually, his eyes resting on Cosette, who he had not noticed when he entered the classroom. His thoughts fell back to their meeting in the courtyard. Dave concentrated for a moment, feeling his way into the space between himself and the dark haired girl. Without warning, a few strands of hair on the back of her head moved, as if raised by a slight draft, surely one that she would detect. He bit his lip and smiled at her in an obvious way in preparation for her to turn around in surprise. The two had hardly interacted since the courtyard, and Dave fully intended on not letting her get away. |

"I've said it before, but," Cosette shook her head, "this school is looking more and more like Azkaban each day. I can't complain, though, as long as there aren't masked hooligans running around and cracking skulls." Her tone was humorous, but she meant every word. It had been almost six months since the Halloween attack, and Hogwarts were still on high alert. Kemp and his MLE minions could vouch for that. Cosette felt something tug at her hair, and it seemed to be coming from behind. She twisted in her chair and caught sight of Dave McKelvey's cheeky grin. Amused, she answered him with a smirk. He handled his power so casually, as if it were nothing at all. She wished she could do the same. Perhaps he would show her. |

OOC: TL:DR previous posts. If I made a mistake, tell me and I'll edit. BIC: John snarled at Dave as the Slytherin made a wise crack about Athena. "Shut it" John growled at the Slytherin, loud enough only for him and his group of Slytherin friends to hear, but not loud enough for Kemp or Tortal. John knew that starting Dave in front of Tortal would be unwise, as Tortal would favor the Slytherin as he was the head of Slytherin, but that wasn't going to stop John from sticking up from Athena at all. John knew that Dave, and Precious who was seated in the nearby vicinity were bullies. They picked on people for the fun of it, and made others feel bad to make themselves feel better about themselves. It was this nefarious trait that John disliked most about the Slytherins, more than their cunning, and their backstabbing, it was their sheer rudeness, often for nothing more than their own enjoyment that angered John the most, and really made him hate the Slytherin house. John waited patiently for Tortal to proceed with the class, curious to see how it would go with Kemp seemingly acting as a supervisor. |

Time could do a lot of things, like for instance: change people. This was much too odd for her liking. The awkwardness loomed over her like a dark storm cloud. His laugh lightened the mood but Precious still couldn't help but remember the many memories they shared together. She reached up and grazed her fingers along her collarbone, down to where his necklace would have rested. Currently, it was in a special case in her trunk in the dorms. "Same?" Her eyebrows rose. She hadn't been keeping tabs on him. That stopped long ago. "I guess.. you could say the same for me. Actually, no." Precious flipped her dark hair behind her shoulder. "But that's not important. In fact," She glanced at the chalkboard at the head of the room and then looked to him with a hopeful gleam in her eyes. "I think what's more important is that it's.. your birthday." This time she fully grinned, flashing her pearly whites. "Happy birthday." The guilt of not having a gift to present to him filled her like poison. Her blue eyes fell to the ground, ashamed of not remembering in the first place. Now that she thought about it, it probably wouldn't have been necessary. It wasn't Precious' priority to make Dave happy anymore. "Party in the common room tonight?" she joked. Her eyes flashed towards Kemp. "Er.. is there anything in particular you wanted for your birthday?" Edited by Precious Hindert, Dec 17 2011, 04:54:56 PM.

"Enforcer Kemp," Tortal cooed, gripping the man's hand with just enough pressure to exert a dominance. "Please make yourself comfortable." Pulling away from the auror, Charles shrugged off his topcoat and tossed it onto his chair, revealing the cuffs of his shirt and the seamless consistency of his wardrobe; vest and all. "Please halt your conversations- unless they pertain to the philosophies and concepts that explain the world as we know it," Charles began, calling out to the class. He waited for a moment before continuing. "Now, to begin I wished to apologize for the lack of... demonstration that will be present during today's class, however, I believe it prudent to expand your minds in a way that is more... conceptually engaging, instead of aesthetically and physically employing. "How many of you are familiar with the... typically mugglistic observations of the universe? This is also known as "science", or more specifically, physics. Just... raise your hand," Charles paused for a moment and glanced around the room. "Okay." Professor Tortal paced around the front of the room and slipped his hands into his pant pockets. "In physics, it is understood that perpetual motion -- an infinite existence of a force of energy, be it kinetic or otherwise in nature -- is impossible. On the earth, once something starts spinning, it eventually has to stop. What possible implication could this have, in a broader scope? Be it universal or otherwise? "Just call it out as you feel appropriate, but please, one at a time." Edited by Charles Tortal, Dec 19 2011, 05:00:43 PM.

Somewhat calmed by the fact that despite the palpable tension in the room the class started out alright, Beth allowed herself to relax and pay attention to the professor's lecture. While she had never excelled in Concepts, far from it, the girl had some idea about physics. In fact, it had been one of her favorite subjects at Muggle school before Hogwarts, likely because of her little crush on MacGyver. Looking around the classroom to see she wasn't alone Beth tentatively raised her hand as well. Implications, huh? Racking her mind for an idea, Beth couldn't come up with anything clever enough. There was; however, something she had been curious about and as nobody else spoke up, she gathered some of her scarce courage to mention that. "Um, if physical energy has to transform, say into heat, then maybe magic has to do that, too? I mean, it is a kind of energy so it can't just disappear, right?" she asked uncertainly, feeling increasingly stupid after voicing her thoughts. It had sounded much better in her head. Beth was aware there was a lot of energy shifting involved in Volatilis, but wasn't quite sure she had comprehended Professor Tortal's question well enough. |

"Ah, this is where it gets interesting, Miss Snape," said Charles, folding his hands behind his back. "Particular research seems to suggest that magic is indeed an energy, yes, but not the type of energy that muggle scientists are familiar with. Due to their lack of sensitivity they are incapable of experimenting in the way we are capable." Charles started to pace around the room. "How many of you remember the day we experimented with pure magical energy? What happened to the auras and the orbs after a certain time period?" The professor paused for a moment and turned back towards the students. "The magical energy was absorbed by the objects around it," Charles noted, slipping his hands back into the pockets of his pants. He again started pacing, very slowly, each foot trailing restrictedly behind the other. "Muggles - lack the magical connection... we do. They also live considerably shorter than... we do. Could anyone think of a reason why?" |

Precious seemed slightly upset for some reason, and Dave assumed it was because she likely didn't have anything to give him, not that she was required to. She did, however, bring it up, which did make the situation a little awkward. Dave decided to lighten things up a bit. "I think a party in my pants, or just in my dormitory, would be preferable," Dave joked with Precious, wearing a coy smile. Dave was actually surprised that someone had not only remembered his birthday, but that, of all people, it would be Precious. He instantly felt guilty, unable to remember if he had said anything to her on hers. Their conversation was interrupted, however, as Professor Tortal finally spoke after the class finished their droning concerning by Kemp's arrival. Dave listened to Professor Tortal, who brought up some interesting concepts concerning the mixture of muggle science and magic. Subjects such as these certainly separated Magical Concepts class from the other classes at Hogwarts in terms of being interesting. Dave opened his mouth to answer Professor Tortal's question, but Beth beat him to it. Despite her response having some merit, Dave felt that it didn't fully answer Tortal's question. The professor, however, chose to present them with another question, this one less open-ended. Dave capitalized on the opportunity this time. "Professor," Dave said respectfully, addressing Tortal. "My first inkling would be to go with the most obvious answer: muggle medicine is extremely limited when compared to the potential of magic," he stated, adding, "however, I'm willing to wager a guess that there's far more to it than that. I guess you could say that magic helps to sustain a person, sort of filling in where the body itself is failing." |

"Indeed," Charles nodded, looking back and forth between Beth and Dave. He turned on his heel and began to pace again. "The interesting thing about magic is that it can manipulate anything when its strings are pulled adequately," the professor made motions with his hands. "For instance, we can levitate chairs, ignite flesh, and summon water whenever we see appropriate. We can even mend bones and stitch flesh without ever using a brace or touching a needle." Charles rubbed at his chin. "But this is where it gets trickier, and where our researchers were having trouble. We can animate objects, such as statues, but they are programmed to do only the task we want them to do. When we close a wound or heal a bone, the cells are reverted back to their previous state. However, we can't seem to figure out how to stop or revert the natural degradation of the biological body. Does anyone have any idea why the natural metabolization of the human body is outside our alteration, if we disregard alchemy and the ingestion of potions? Remember, there are no right answers; only hypotheses." Edited by Charles Tortal, Dec 21 2011, 04:19:57 PM.

Alistair's interested was incredibly piqued as the debate started, though he made no show of it on the outside, choosing to leave his head resting upon the desk, as though he were snoozing, or not particularly interested. Alistair preferred not to take part in discussions, he had trouble forming his thoughts into sentences that would make much sense. Though he understood much of what was going on around him and enjoyed learning about why magic did what. It was weird to think that wizards were made of different stuff than muggles. If that was what was being implied... Wizard's lived longer than muggles, they had some sort of gene that allowed them to tap into magic. And thus they knew more about the world than muggles... But why did magic have such limitations? If researcher's could not figure it out than Alistair doubted he could. What could alchemy and potions do that magic could not? Why could magic not manipulate the natrual metabolization of humans? It could manipulate anything. He kept going back to cells, the natural order of things and that maybe magic couldn't dick around with how the cells had been created; with what they were intended to do... Why then, were the aforementioned things excluded? Were those not a form of magic? Alistair arched an eyebrow and glanced around the class curiously, wondering if he should pose his questions so they could move on... Being able to manipluate cells would put them on par with Gods, if they existed. They were not such. "Can magic not manipulate how things naturally are? Or, well... it can not work outside natural boundaries, something like that." Woo, that had sounded far more intelligent in his head. Feeling further explanation was necessecary; "Burning off a limb is plausible.. as is regrowing it. Revitalising and renewing the cells, however? It doesn't happen naturally. Cells divide and grow all the time but they do not renew or revive..." It did not happen in the natural order of things... Alistair did not like speaking in front of people and he felt his ears burning because of his actions. Nor did he know much about how cells worked, only that all cells did something particular although they had the DNA inside them to create an entire human. He did not know if that had anything to do with rejuvenation, degeneration or metabolization... He rested his head atop his arms and studied the teacher as he awaited a response, feeling rather nervous. |

Addie entered the classroom eyes scanning the assorted students for a vacant place to sit. Beth, John, Dave and Ian were the only people really knew well enough to sit with, and the Slytherins and Gryffindor were sitting fairly close to each other. Addie strode through the room, taking a seat near Ian and Dave. She gazed at the board, pulling out a fresh sheet of parchment. Ian's comment about the class being about theory was a little rude, but ultimately correct. Tortal was an excellent professor, as he did his best to make as many lessons interactive as possible, but sometimes it was better to just sit and think a concept through. The girl bristled slightly as the note mentioned one of the MLE would be present, anxiety growing further as Kemp was introduced to the class. One of the things they'd studied was the elementium, if anyone mentioned it... Ian and Dave seemed to be worrying about the same thing she realized, the girl gave them a discreet nod of agreement. She found her gaze straying to John, worry continuing to twist in her stomach. What if he spoke up? He practically worshiped Kemp...Then again, he hadn't spoken up yet and it'd been months. The girl took a slow, deep breath, calming herself down as the lesson started. She was one of Kemp's Junior Aurors, he wouldn't suspect anything from her unless she was directly mentioned. Though, just the mention could get Tortal sacked, and she didn't want that. She let her gaze roam the class, finally settling on Kemp with contempt. They'd done nothing to find Tristan, and he knew that was her thought on the matter. She'd always disliked Kemp, but now she had a solid reason to attribute to her dislike, a reason he couldn't get her in trouble for. She could glare at him all she liked. Charles nodded, "In the same way that we cannot revive a dead loved one, we cannot revive dead cells. Similarly, we cannot seem to completely overpower and take control of an individual in the same way we cannot completely reprogram the biological body. We can, however, with the aide of alchemical processes, temporarily alter the state of the metabolism so that a different effect or effects are achieved. "For instance, some of you may have heard of the famous Nicolas Flamel. Through breaking off a piece of his Philosopher's Stone, crushing it into a fine powder, brewing it into a tea and then ingesting it, he is capable of extending his life for an indefinite period of time." Professor Tortal began rubbing at his chin again, looking out at the students. "Would it be safe to say that the biological body uses different energies than, say, a fire? Why?" Those rare moments when she actually said something remotely contributive in class added a pinch of confidence in Beth's otherwise nearly empty bowl assigned to this trait, which provided her with a little nudge when deciding whether to try again next time. Momentarily, the girl zoomed out, trying to remember some of the past Concepts classes or just listening to other people's ideas. It seemed like Dave really knew what he was talking about and she found Alistair's idea, who appeared to know quite a lot about biology, reasonable as well. Noticing his slight coyness Beth smiled at her housemate encouragingly. Ever since she developed certain personal interest in the theory of magic, the class had become much more interesting, which resulted in her slowly beginning to understand the matter. In her opinion at least, this subject required far more brain activity than any other. At the mention of fire, Beth's mind immediately strayed towards elementium, most likely because she still worried it might come up. Surreptitiously, she glanced around the classroom, even back at the three members of Defense Club, hoping other students weren't about to mention it. Then the Hufflepuff's brows furrowed in thought as she mulled over the possibilities. This time it didn't take as much persuading to speak up, even though Beth did feel slightly guilty for not letting someone else take their turn. "Don't different forms of life need diverse energies? While fire might be unsuitable because it could hurt us some creatures, like dragons, require it," Beth voiced, glad she could briefly drag one of her favorite topics in. It would be easy to guess which energy sustained flowers, for example, but what about people? "I, uh, guess humans need a bit of every form of energy." Once more, the uncomfortable feeling that she might be entirely mistaken engulfed her, although in a much smaller scale. Beth had never seen the Professor judge people - at least not openly, which was another reason for her to respect him and not fear to speak up as she did in some other classes.
