Welcome to Hogwarts Interactive Role Play, one of the net's best in Harry Potter and Hogwarts role plays. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Here at Hogwarts our students are currently in their Seventh Year. Last year, the war against the Knights crescendoed into a direct attack against the school. Disappearances are still reported (or not) daily, and the Dark Lord and his Knights of Walpurgis have succeeded in spreading their message of "do as thou will" far and wide across the globe. Magical Law Enforcement, which is now the only authority in the wizarding world under Martial Law, has responded by tightening security, controlling the media, and strictly enforcing curfews and other laws. Their control is damaging to the people's freedom, and their hierarchy is a suspicious lot. It is clear that some members of the MLE like their new found power a bit too much, others see it necessary, but all are in serious danger of being consumed by it. But with the picture of just what Azariah Amaranth is after becoming ever clearer, and a third player in the form of a group called SAVIOR entering the scene, what will the MLE do next to ensure that they've got the situation under control?

The Elementium, the Higher Plane that had once been hidden just beyond the veil in the Department of Mysteries, and the Deathly Hallows. The pieces of the puzzle have been identified, but what picture do they make?

Today is Day 1 of Year Seven. Students have had time to recover from the Knight's attack, and are beginning to reluctantly return to the walls of Hogwarts. The safety of the school has been diminished, bringing up the question everyone must ask. Are you safe anywhere these days? It's up to each individual to decide their fate, where will you decide to go?

Seventh Year

It was only a few days after Christmas and Beth enjoyed the holiday atmosphere still lingering in every part of the castle. She had never stayed for Christmas holidays before. For her first few years at Hogwarts, she had to return to orphanage during that time, nobody there cared that she didn't wish to. Since her Fourth year she'd gone happily to her newfound home, until this time. Hogwarts were closed off from the outside world and none of the students could leave. The Hufflepuff wasn't at all happy about it, although she loved the school this time of year, because it meant she wouldn't get her planned lesson in Volatilis.

However she felt a new hope when she received a short note that day. It only read that she should immediately depart for the empty classroom on the main floor, but she recognized the writing instantly. So that's where she was rounding a last corner to her left, glancing over her shoulder to make sure no one was following her. Beth halted just before the door, smoothing down her already smooth school robes. After one last dramatic intake of air, she reached for the handle and entered the Unused Classroom.

(OOC: This is part of Beth's main plot. And I'm also doing this for some Snapexercise. ^^ Title: by Nickelback)

Severus Snape stood with his hands joint behind his back, disinterestedly gazing out of the window. Just as he was wondering for a dozenth time what was taking the little twat so long, the door of the room opened. "You're late," the wizard said evenly before the person could say anything, not moving from his current position. With a minute flick of his wand, he locked the door and swiftly turned on his heel, facing his tardy daughter.

"Hello Se-" Beth started with a smile before she was interrupted. Oh well, so he wasn't too happy to see her, but deep down she'd always hoped he liked her. Or at least cared about her, on some tiny strange level. Still, she could not imagine ever being allowed to call him 'dad' or even 'father'.

"I only got the note a few minutes ago, I'm sorry," the girl responded, starting a little as she heard the door lock behind her. How did he even know it was her? Some other student could have wandered in. There was an awkward moment when he just stared at her, as if expecting something.

"Would you like to see what I've learnt?" she asked hopefully, a grin spreading across her face gain. She had practiced Volatilis as often as she could, given how much energy it cost her, and with a few additional days after Christmas she had some more time to work on it. At the present, she could raise her body from a lying position for nearly ten seconds, and by about three inches at that. That was even more than she got assigned in summer. She was anxious to show her father how well she was doing.

***
Snape wasn't surprised by her poor excuse, she'd always find one. His eyes scanned the girl quickly, not noticing any visible injuries. With her tendency to get into trouble, it was mildly surprising. And with the unfortunate attacks on Halloween, he figured she'd try to shove her impertinent tiny nose right in. If he hadn't checked the results himself, multiple times, he wouldn't have believed she was his. All of her excessive cheerfulness often made him sick, like now.

"That won't be necessary," Severus uttered, raising his wand to a desk in a corner and moving it to the center of the room. "I've had the displeasure of dealing with your dunderhead schoolmates earlier," he mentioned as he carried himself to the desk, wordlessly beckoning Beth to do the same. Indeed, just as he had made his way out of the Headmistress' office earlier that day, a pair of Second year students ran straight into him. Snape felt a like week long detention wasn't enough - how he missed the authority to deduct house points. That was one thing that made being a professor slightly bearable. That and the unlimited access to Hogwarts' library.

"I cannot afford any further delay," he continued, "there's scarcely enough time to give you new instructions."

A huge wave of disappointment washed over Beth when Severus refused to see her progress. However, she pushed those feelings to the very back of her mind for now and concentrated on what he was saying. It was almost funny how everything her friends, or students she even didn't know, did somehow sounded as her fault, but of course she wouldn't point that out. Instead she watched with curiosity as he arranged the desk, wondering what would she have to do this time.

Beth walked closer, feeling sorry Severus would have to leave soon. Still, she was grateful he found any time at all for her. "What do I need to do?" she asked.

With a blank expression, Snape motioned to the desk with his left hand. When Beth gave him a questioning look, he rolled his eyes. "Get up," he snapped, touching the surface of the desk with a single finger, before taking two steps back and impatiently crossing his arms on his chest.

Beth looked somehow startled but complied nevertheless, climbing atop the desk. Then she turned to Severus again. "Now what?"

"Jump," was his only reply. She was about to give him that look again before thinking better of it. Instead, she just jumped down.

"Again," Snape drawled before she could ask what was going on.

The Hufflepuff dutifully complied and soon stood on the desk again. He stopped her by adding, "but don't touch the floor this time."

She stared at him. "How am I supposed not to touch the floor if you want me to jump?"

"Use your head, you silly girl," he snarled, "what have I been trying to teach you for the past year?" He'd have to check the parental test results again.

Beth felt like facepalming herself. Of course if had something to do with Volatilis. So he wanted her to somehow stop mid-air. But how was she supposed to do that so quickly? She tried to concentrate the energy around her, as she had done before, and took a step forward. It was really hard for a person to concentrate when they were falling down. Her feet hit the ground as the last time and she growled beneath her breath. Quickly, she rushed back up without being told to. This time, she closed her eyes as it had proved to be helpful in past. She felt a slight tingling in her feet but they met the ground nonetheless. This time, however she couldn't keep her balance and fell on her bum, hitting her back and head against the desk.

If there was one single positive thing about the girl (not that he could think of any more), then it was her tenacity. That's why he didn't make any caustic remark about her fall, even as he was itching to. In one long stride, Severus stood before her, piercing Beth with his haughty gaze. "You have to learn to slow down your fall before we proceed to tasks more complex," he explained coolly, "I would advise you to pay attention to your surroundings as well, which you just didn't. And don't attempt anything foolish."

Beth nodded from her position on the floor, basically glued to the spot. "So that is my assignment then? Learn to slow down my fall?" she verified.

Snape gave a curt not before turning to the door, unlocking it with another flick of his wand. He was halfway to the door when he heard his name called behind his back. He paused.

"Severus?"
Beth tried to stop him, not really knowing what to say. She only knew she didn't want him to leave yet, realizing she wouldn't see him for another six months. "I- thank you," she faltered. Without any visible reaction, Snape swept out of the door.

Beth stayed on the floor for several more minutes, contemplating and already planning how should she face her new challenge. Then she got up, locked the door again and started practicing. She didn't register much progress that day, but knew she could get better with time. It had always worked out in past so she tried not to worry so soon. Tired with the mental exertion, Beth rearranged the furniture into its original place and left the room.
