Here at Hogwarts our students are currently in their Seventh Year. Last year, the war against the Knights crescendoed into a direct attack against the school. Disappearances are still reported (or not) daily, and the Dark Lord and his Knights of Walpurgis have succeeded in spreading their message of "do as thou will" far and wide across the globe. Magical Law Enforcement, which is now the only authority in the wizarding world under Martial Law, has responded by tightening security, controlling the media, and strictly enforcing curfews and other laws. Their control is damaging to the people's freedom, and their hierarchy is a suspicious lot. It is clear that some members of the MLE like their new found power a bit too much, others see it necessary, but all are in serious danger of being consumed by it. But with the picture of just what Azariah Amaranth is after becoming ever clearer, and a third player in the form of a group called SAVIOR entering the scene, what will the MLE do next to ensure that they've got the situation under control?

The Elementium, the Higher Plane that had once been hidden just beyond the veil in the Department of Mysteries, and the Deathly Hallows. The pieces of the puzzle have been identified, but what picture do they make?

Today is Day 1 of Year Seven. Students have had time to recover from the Knight's attack, and are beginning to reluctantly return to the walls of Hogwarts. The safety of the school has been diminished, bringing up the question everyone must ask. Are you safe anywhere these days? It's up to each individual to decide their fate, where will you decide to go?

We won't be around for ever, and not just in a "we are humans, therefore we will all die eventually" sort of way, but also in a "I can't commit to HIRP/I'm simply getting too old to go on the interwebz and pretend to be a wizard with 14 year olds for much longer" sort of way. Previously, HIRP has had no system for allowing Retired Characters, or hiatused characters to sort of remain around. They just simply do not get mentioned, brought up or talked about at all really. They sort of get deleted from history like that word document that had suggestions of an email address when you were trying to create one when you were 10 which included the words Cool, Sxc, Babi or various incorrectly used punctuation marks like underscores and dashes, and which invariably would be with either hotmail or yahoo (as that is who all the cool kids signed up for) and if you couldn't get the name you wanted, you simply added numbers (ie: Swift109) I digress, with players retiring characters, they can still be mentioned in the RP but the idea is that no one person plays them. Rather the characters are played, as if they were never a playable character. As long as the posts are true to how the character was, then I don't really see a problem with it. Also, a list of NPC characters could help space out the RP. Say the Ministry positions were delegated out. Most regular users would have to add another account just to have most department heads covered. However, if we had an NPC list, these positions could be filled and talked about and referenced in conversation. ATM, I think we have about 5/6 ministry positions filled. Most of them being Magical Law Enforcement, and Head of Aurors and Minister of Magic. If we created a NPC list, we could have several department heads, and if someone wanted to take that character, it would the position would simply be taken off the NPC list. NPC = Non-Playable Character

RP Location The Room of Requirement	My only issue with this is... what if someone wants to play one of those positions, but it's taken by an NPC? Do we imagine the NPC never existed? Or they got fired?

That's how I'd go about it, anyway. There could also be a forum section where each NPC would have its topic and people who used them in their RPs could shortly write what for or how. Something like a character and plot page, only not so detailed. I don't think that we make too many adult characters of certain high positions. So I suppose it would be possible to say the NPC retired/got fired/died/quit... And I like the character retirement idea ^^

Either, you take the existing character name, history and personality. Or, you can make a new character for that position. Then have the chance to explain what the fault was with the original character and why they are no longer in their position. The story line is more fluid if characters aren't re-written out of the history. This RP's history is littered with past characters that we don't seem to mention at all anymore. Due to players not being here. In this way, we could have double the amounts of Knights. Think about how much more intimidating the Knights would be if it wasn't just the 6 or so playable agents. In the MoM, Ian has done this, Alphonse's (I think) partner was an Auror who was essentially an NPC. However, no one else seemed to have much interaction with the NPC. The idea of the list is that it creates a fluidity, and everyone is addressing the same NPC rather than every new scenario a new NPC appears.

Also, we could add the retired Character onto this list at the bottom. If anyone has a character they don't want to RP anymore, or can't commit, they can add their character to the list. Rather then make 100,000 new ones
