Read Today's Daily Prophet: Knights of Walpurgis attack Hogwarts; Belleford steps down as Hogwarts closes until further notice
Welcome to Hogwarts Interactive Role Play, one of the net's best in Harry Potter and Hogwarts role plays. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Here at Hogwarts our students are currently in their Seventh Year. Last year, the war against the Knights crescendoed into a direct attack against the school. Disappearances are still reported (or not) daily, and the Dark Lord and his Knights of Walpurgis have succeeded in spreading their message of "do as thou will" far and wide across the globe. Magical Law Enforcement, which is now the only authority in the wizarding world under Martial Law, has responded by tightening security, controlling the media, and strictly enforcing curfews and other laws. Their control is damaging to the people's freedom, and their hierarchy is a suspicious lot. It is clear that some members of the MLE like their new found power a bit too much, others see it necessary, but all are in serious danger of being consumed by it. But with the picture of just what Azariah Amaranth is after becoming ever clearer, and a third player in the form of a group called SAVIOR entering the scene, what will the MLE do next to ensure that they've got the situation under control?

The Elementium, the Higher Plane that had once been hidden just beyond the veil in the Department of Mysteries, and the Deathly Hallows. The pieces of the puzzle have been identified, but what picture do they make?

Today is Day 1 of Year Seven. Students have had time to recover from the Knight's attack, and are beginning to reluctantly return to the walls of Hogwarts. The safety of the school has been diminished, bringing up the question everyone must ask. Are you safe anywhere these days? It's up to each individual to decide their fate, where will you decide to go?

Katashi Shimada
Ambassador of Japan

The sun descended in the afternoon sky, slowly painting the periwinkle blue heavens a brilliant orange. The gardens of Tetsue House were peaceful, as they always were, as Katashi stood upon the porch of the villa, looking out at the fishpond in a reverie. His arms were crossed and hidden within the sleeves of his kimono and his hakama pants blew about slightly in the gentle breeze. It was an evening which should have afforded him a pleasantly relaxed mood. However, he was far from so. He couldn't stop thinking about the litany of problems which now encircled him. What was he to do?

"Sir?"

The voice broke in upon his thoughts like a battering ram through a wooden door. He looked around, blinking in mild surprise. A few feet to his left along the porch stood Sho, the butler. He was rising from a bow by the time Katashi had laid eyes upon him.

"Yes?" Katashi asked.

"You have a visitor, Sir." Sho said. "I brought her into the drawing room."

"Who is she?" Katashi asked, looking back out over the gardens.

"I think it best if I allow her the honor of introducing herself, Sir." Sho said, bowing again.

Katashi had looked around at him with a raised eyebrow when he had said this, but he did trust Sho's judgment in all things. He had been the caretaker of Tetsue House since it was built for Katashi almost twenty years ago.He was absolutely trustworthy and reliable. After a moment, Katashi nodded.

"Very well," he said. "I'll see her." he then fixed his gaze firmly on Sho and continued: "Shinji?"

"The young master is still unaccounted for, Sir." Sho said, shaking his head. "I have every member of the house staff searing the grounds and the surrounds for him, but he has not yet been found. I'm sure he will turn up."

Katashi shook his head, exasperated. "That fool will be the death of himself. His father's son, indeed. What ever will I do to rob him of his stupidity?"

Sho did not answer. He knew just as well as Katashi did that it was not a question directed at him. After a moment, Katashi just shook his head again and stepped past Sho, patting him on the shoulder in thanks as Sho bowed his head. Whoever this visitor is, Katashi thought as he went. this had better be important.

Rhea's eyes glided around the room, silently appraising and appreciating it. It hadn't taken her long to find the Tetsue House, being ushered in by the butler relatively quickly. It had been a simple matter of mentioning the Headmistress' name.

Rhea turned toward the door as the wizard entered, inclining her head toward him. "Shimada Katashi-san, I presume?" She didn't know the language fluently, but she had a fair understanding of the culture. It was a culture she was particularly fond of, heavily influenced by the ideas of honour and respect.

Rhea was a researcher by nature, cultures were one of the many things she chose to pay attention to, it was nice to apply her knowledge occasionally. That knowledge could also be particularly useful, as most people found it flattering to have their culture acknowledged. As the saying went, you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.

"My name is Rhea Wicker, it's a pleasure to meet you." She smiled a faint, polite smile, her voice smooth and firm.

Katashi paused at her introduction, smiling. He had to give it to her: she knew how to play the game. Better than most, anyway. They wouldn't have made any impression on him when first he walked through the door. He bowed to her in his usual manner and then spoke in a pleasant, conversational voice which he tinged just slightly with flattery.

"You do me much honor, Ms. Wicker." he said. "I see you are familiar with Japanese custom. That is good. Far too many people in far too many lands have forsaken a knowledge of the ways of others for the hope that others will, instead, adhere to theirs. I, however, find knowing a bit about every subject gives life more flavor."

As he spoke, he walked to the head of the room and lowered himself onto a sitting mat which resided there, settling just moments before he finished speaking. He crossed his legs and placed his hands upon his knees, examining his company with keen eyes. She wasn't exactly the ordinary visitor. She had business here that went beyond anything pedestrian. Of that much, there could be no doubt. What, exactly, that business was remained to be seen.

"Don't you agree?"

"I adhere to a very similar belief. I believe that an extensive knowledge is the solution to most things." Rhea smiled a little more warmly, though her eyes were critical as they observed him.

As far as diplomats went, he wasn't bad. She'd be able to convince him, she was fairly certain of that. Her eyes followed him as he moved to sit. She firmly believed in maintaining eye contact, so many people didn't. Eye contact showed confidence, trust.. Or it could unnerve a person, though that wasn't her intention today. And as an experienced occlumens, she had little reason to fear anyone invading her thoughts.

"I suppose I should explain my presence in your home. I've been sent here by Bidelia Belleford, Headmistress of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry." Rhea explained, observing him, hoping to catch an unguarded reaction.

Straight to business, eh? Katashi smiled inwardly.

"Indeed?" he said, nodding. "Would you, perhaps, care for some tea?"

With her acceptance, Katashi leaned to his left and pulled toward himself a small tray with several cups. With a snap of his right hand's fingers, his wand flew from his right sleeve and floated in midair, waiting for him to wrap his fingers around it's silken handle. He took it and tapped the rims of two of the cups, filling them with conjured water. With another tap each, he set them to steaming with heat as he put portions of a powdered green tea in each one. Stirring it, the water turned a murky yet brilliant green color.

He waved his wand over the two cups, making one fly directly up in front of him and the other fly across the room toward his guest. He raised his left hand, palm up, to support his cup while he directed hers to a rest on the floor in front of her. He twirled the wand around, pointing it back into his baggy sleeve, making it fly back to it's holster on strapped to his forearm, hidden by the white material of the kimono from view.

"So," he said finally after tipping a sip of the tea into his mouth. "What, exactly, would the esteemed headmistress of Hogwarts school wish of an old diplomat like myself?"

Rhea watched him silently as he prepared the tea. As the cup landed before her she lifted it up, sipping at it silently. Her face was neutral still, though she couldn't help feeling slightly annoyed. She hadn't caught a single reaction to her comment. He was guarding himself as well, it seemed.

"We were under the impression you have a grandson, who has traveled here with you for... Safety reasons." Rhea commented slowly, setting her cup down carefully and watching Katashi. "This grandson is also of school age, and currently out of school. Hogwarts is inherently the safest place in this country."

Rhea fell silent, sipping at her tea once more, continuing to watch him.

Katashi froze with his cup about an inch away from his lips. He had been about to take another sip when Ms. Wicker had spoken and when she did, she made him loose all taste for tea. Shinji had, to his knowledge, been smuggled in in secret. While the boy's daily jaunts about London were somewhat less well disguised as Katashi would have preferred, he found it hard to believe that information like that would easily be found. Whoever these people had gotten their information from was now someone he thoroughly wanted to meet. His interest in that source was anything but well-meaning. As for Ms. Rhea Wicker, she had just struck a rather dangerous chord. It was her first mistake.

Placing his tea down slowly, a smile playing across his face, he looked her right in the eye, an ominous fire burning within his own. He leaned forward, planting one of his elbows on the knee of the same side and spoke in a calm, level voice.

"I see... and you are willing to offer this payment in exchange for whatever it is you want?" he said, nodding almost imperceivable. "Very interesting. However, you did not answer my question. I shall rephrase it. What do you want?"

She smiled faintly, noting the flash of his eyes, sipping at her tea once more before setting it down. "Payment.. I would rather think of it as us doing you a favour, and.. you hopefully returning the favour." She watched him for a moment, before turning her attention to the window thoughtfully.

"You make it sound like a ransom or something. I assure you, what we want is nothing malicious. You understand that this country, along with every country beyond its borders, is in danger, right? Azariah Amaranth, the Dark Lord, is wreaking havoc." Rhea frowned, ever so slightly, and turned her attention back to Katashi.

"You're something of a diplomatic legend, Shimada-san. We would like your assistance. We need other countries to be prepared. We need their help to stop Amaranth, because if they don't assist us... They'll soon follow us. Amaranth will not stop at just Britain." Rhea commented softly, though her voice was still firm. She folded her hands in her lap, waiting for him to react to what she'd said.

Surely a little bit of networking was worth the safety of his grandson.

Katashi squinted at her very briefly before sitting up straight once more. She played her semantics well, indeed. And she did make a valid point. He did not now nor had he ever believed that this new threat to peace would stop at the borders of Britain. It was just a tiny island in the vast ocean of the world. What was Britain compared to Russia, the United States, or China? Power over the world was the goal of every tyrant no matter his supposed morality. You could not dominate the world with Britain only. That said...

"I grant you your point." he said finally. "And I agree with your assessment. However, even if I wanted to help, what you ask may be impossible. What am I to say to the leaders of the world, the men you would have me draw in? They are to forsake their own countries' safety for the sake of England? Governments and foresight are almost never mutually inclusive. They will refuse your train of thought. Few will be swayed by your argument, even if it came from my lips."

He stood and walked to the door, casually flicking his hand at it. It slid open obediently to allow him to see the eastern end of the gardens from where he stood upon the inner threshold. He sighed as he looked out at the scenery, his arms crossed and hidden once more within his Kimono sleeves.

"As you say, I am something of a diplomatic legend." he said, turning slightly so he could look back at her. "But for all the friends I gained in the pursuit of that title, I gained enemies of equal if not greater volume. And, as you so readily announced, my grandson is here for 'Safety reasons'. He has enemies of his own. By extension, they are mine. I would call that an over abundance of enemies, wouldn't you? Now, you ask me to seek more for the sake of England, thereby announcing myself to the ones I already have and potentially leading my grandson's to him? What you would have me do and what you offer... are not equal. I'm afraid... I cannot help you."

Well. That just wasn't acceptable.

Rhea got to her feet slowly, moving over to one of the windows she'd been gazing out before. "Understand, Shimada-san, that we operate in secrecy. The.. group of people that I'm a part of, that are trying to bring down Azariah.. We're separate from the Ministry. We only contact people who we think will be trustworthy.

"When a government is given full authority, as ours has been under martial law, it may go in the wrong direction. Surely you've witnessed this. We're separate, and secret. No one would know you're a part of it. We're not anarchists or anything, we want to protect everyone, and defeat Azariah. We just feel that we would do a better job of doing it.

"I assure you, you would not need to alert your enemies. Nor would you need to tell other countries to forsake themselves in the name of helping us. The short of it is, united we stand, and divided we fall. Live together; die alone. There's a reason these sayings exist. We all need to realize this."
Rhea frowned faintly, turning to face him and crossing her arms.

"Shimada-san. If you help us, your grandson will be at Hogwarts. If he leaves, for whatever reason, an auror can be sent with him. That, and I personally will see to monitoring if Jiuto or his men enter the country." She smiled faintly, watching him. "Let me reintroduce myself. Not as Rhea Wicker, but as the only Unspeakable left in Britain. The one Amaranth didn't manage to kill. If anyone can monitor the whereabouts of that gang, it's me." Rhea commented coolly, confident in her ability.

"You're asking me to draw foreign support for you and you think I won't be instantly spotted by my enemies?" Katashi said, raising an eyebrow at Rhea. "Clearly you don't know who my enemies are. Ansei Jiuto is one of the least of them. That is saying something as well. He is no pedestrian thug boss. He tried and almost succeeded in assassinating me twice when I was Minister for Magic. He wasn't so much as slapped on the wrist by the council..."

He looked back out at the gardens through the open door. It was strange that this opportunity had fallen into his lap. He couldn't believe the opportunity. It was one he was sorely tempted to pass over, however. It was not his own safety and well-being he was concerned for, but that of his grandson, the servants who tended his house, and his relatives and friends abroad. All of them might become targets if his involvement with these vigilantes became known, as it certainly would be if but the slightest misstep occurred.

However, as much as it was an opportunity that he was tempted to pass over, it was an opportunity he could not overlook. Shinji would be safer for it than Katashi had dared hope. Realistically, he had to assume Jiuto knows where Shinji is. Kenji hid away his eldest son, most capable of defending himself, in the most obvious place for a reason. He was hardly an enticing target. Jiuto, however, was not one to be deterred. He would be making his move soon. Katashi had to make all his preparations before then.

Tetsue House was protected by powerful magic, but it was nothing compared to the fortress that was Hogwarts. Even with the combined might of all the world's tyrants, that castle wouldn't fall for days if it came under siege. And, frankly, who would bother fighting that battle for one teenager? What would be a moment's frenzied fighting in Tetsue House would be an uphill battle for Jiuto's men against an army of dragons in the form of professors, skilled students, and magical creatures of lethal cunning and power at Hogwarts, not to mention the school itself, which was as much a sentinel as those that guarded it. It was the ideal vault.

"Vigilantes, eh?" he muttered to himself at last, his eyes scanning the scenery still. He sighed, saying: "Very well, I will speak to your headmistress. I make no promises and no vows. If she presents a plan that I believe is worth my efforts, I will consider it. However, my terms are thus: One; You will provide me with any and all information regarding Ansei Jiuto and his organization you collect for as long as I serve your cause, if I do at all. Two; Shinji will be accepted at Hogwarts and your organization will take every step to protect him regardless of my participation or lack thereof. And three: you and your group will keep absolutely confidential every piece of information you have about my grandson. I expect your informant to adhere to this. If we are agreed..."

Rhea remained passive, watching him as he explained his terms. In all honesty, they'd planned on bringing his grandson to Hogwarts, where Katashi accepted or not. Of course, he didn't need to know that. Better to let him think he was making his own terms.

The young woman remained silent a moment longer, scrutinizing him, before nodding slightly. "Very well. I think that we can agree to those terms." Rhea commented simply, turning and beginning to head toward the door. "We're meeting tonight. Would you follow me?" Rhea glanced back to him, hoping that he wouldn't take long to make up his mind about joining. He was going to join. After tonights meeting, there was no way he'd be able to refuse.

"Very well," Katashi said. "I'll need a few moments. I'll meet you in the entrance hall. Sho will take you there."

He waved his hand at the hall door and it opened, Sho standing on the other side in his usual tuxedo. Katashi stepped out onto the porch, closing the door behind himself, and followed it all the way around the building to the doors leading into his quarters.

Ten minutes later, he stepped out into the hall, now wearing black hakama and a dark, neutral blue kimono with his crest upon it. He also donned the shield-cloak haori, though he had spelled it to look a simple black as opposed to it's usual, opulent self. He walked down along the hall and turned into the entry hall where Sho and their company now stood.

"Sho." Katashi said, stepping past the butler toward Rhea.

"Yes, Sir?" Sho asked, following along just to the left in his wake loyally.

"You have your instructions well in hand?"

"Of course, Sir."

"Good, then I will see you shortly..." he looked at Rhea. "or, perhaps, slightly longer. Adhere to your duties until I return."

"Of course."

"Very well then, Ms. Wicker," he said, turning his attention toward her in full, holding out a hand toward the door in invitation. "shall we be going?"

Rhea followed the butler back into the entrance hall, waiting while Katashi prepared himself. She glanced over to him as he entered the hall, nodding to the butler politely, before opening the door and stepping outside.

"We shall." She held out her arm, waiting for the man to take it. Once he had, Rhea disapparated, taking him along with her.
