Read Today's Daily Prophet: Knights of Walpurgis attack Hogwarts; Belleford steps down as Hogwarts closes until further notice
Welcome to Hogwarts Interactive Role Play, one of the net's best in Harry Potter and Hogwarts role plays. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Here at Hogwarts our students are currently in their Seventh Year. Last year, the war against the Knights crescendoed into a direct attack against the school. Disappearances are still reported (or not) daily, and the Dark Lord and his Knights of Walpurgis have succeeded in spreading their message of "do as thou will" far and wide across the globe. Magical Law Enforcement, which is now the only authority in the wizarding world under Martial Law, has responded by tightening security, controlling the media, and strictly enforcing curfews and other laws. Their control is damaging to the people's freedom, and their hierarchy is a suspicious lot. It is clear that some members of the MLE like their new found power a bit too much, others see it necessary, but all are in serious danger of being consumed by it. But with the picture of just what Azariah Amaranth is after becoming ever clearer, and a third player in the form of a group called SAVIOR entering the scene, what will the MLE do next to ensure that they've got the situation under control?

The Elementium, the Higher Plane that had once been hidden just beyond the veil in the Department of Mysteries, and the Deathly Hallows. The pieces of the puzzle have been identified, but what picture do they make?

Today is Day 1 of Year Seven. Students have had time to recover from the Knight's attack, and are beginning to reluctantly return to the walls of Hogwarts. The safety of the school has been diminished, bringing up the question everyone must ask. Are you safe anywhere these days? It's up to each individual to decide their fate, where will you decide to go?

Career Advice - Amzi Ben Lev

Amzi entered the class room

Looking around the shady green classroom, Amzi understood that the previously dull classroom had been transformed to look more like a forrest, the Divination professor, Bannishtar's previous home. Amzi was unsure of what the centaur could do for him in terms of Career advice, Amzi had chosen his profession, or more it had chosen him. Growing up in the back drop of war, Amzi always wanted to stop crime and catch those responsible, in Israel they were called "Ha Mishtara shel Kosmim" which translates to English as the Police of Wizards. Within the organization, there was a crack group of elite dark wizard catchers known as "Ptishim" which translates to english as "Hammers", Amzi believed that they were the Israeli comparison to what they called Aurors, in England.

Taking the seat across from the desk, Amzi sat bolt up right and looked directly into the centaur's eyes. "I'm here for the career session" Amzi stated in a thick middle easter accent, while still maintaining a soldiers level of seriousness. He refused to call this session career advisory, Amzi didn't need advice, but he also didn't know why he needed to have this session in the first place.

The boy that now sat before the centaur maintained a disposition so stony that it reminded him of a certain past leader of his heard. The boy remained in a stiff, official sort of posture not unlike the aurors (though they only looked like that when a superior officer was about). Of course, Amzi Ben Lev had always been like that. The centaur wondered if, perhaps, law enforcement was in the boy's future.

"Good morning, Mr. Lev," said the centaur, finding Mr. Lev's file.

"So," said Banni, "Any idea as to what you're wanting to accomplish in your last two years here at Hogwarts? Have you thought about your future and what you can do now to reach your goals?"

Amzi viewed the Centaur, while many from Amzi's home considered anything bellow wizards as unequal, Amzi saw that character measured the person, more then the type of creature they were. After all, Humans were supposed to be the most advanced and yet as far as Amzi was concerned they were the most destructive creatures and had done some of the most barbaric actions known to the world.

"Ehhh, My english is not so good, professor" Amzi said, rolling his 'r's in his thick Israeli accent. "I have always wanted to be in Ptishim, it is like Auror, in this country. I would like to know emmm, ma zeh ba anglit (what is this in english)" Amzi said to himself, trying to remember the term, "are my grades acceptable, and what courses would I need to take. I know I must take defense, potions, charms and a few other tochniot (subjects), what standard would I need to do, so I can do auror. Excuse me, but my english is not so good. I hope to work on it while in England" Amzi finished, eyeing the professor. Amzi was undecided about whether the move to England was good, or whether he would rather be at home with his family and friends speaking hebrew.

"Well, I would think that any achievement here would be transferable. If anything," said the centaur, "you could always earn yourself some merit in Law Enforcement or the Auror Office here, and if you do well I highly doubt your home country would be anything less than extatic to have you join their ranks."

The centaur had a bit of difficulty understanding the boy through his accent and his English skills. However, the centaur always believed that anyone who failed to understand someone speaking their own language (no matter how inept the speaker might be) wasn't trying very hard to understand.

((OOC: I'll need his grades))

OOC: English wouldn't be Amzi's first language.

BIC: Amzi withdrew a slip of paper that had Amzi's grades written on it, "I was told to give zis to you" Amzi said, never looking away from the centaur

Ben Lev, Amzi

DADA - O
Charms - A
Transfiguration - E
Potions - E
History of Magic - P
Herbology - D
Theory of Magic - A-E
Astronomy - P
COMC - E
Divination - A

"I was told you needed to see my grades" Amzi said, again focussing straight ahead on his divination professor.

((OOC: I'm aware of that. I was pointing out something I've observed in real life. Friends of mine would always complain how hard it was to understand someone who didn't speak English as a first language through their accent/ineptitude, while I never had a problem with it. I concluded that this was merely because I was more patient and I put effort into understanding what was being said to me. I didn't make a half-assed passive attempt at hearing without listening. However, I realize where you might have mistaken my meaning, as when I wrote "in their own language" I meant the first language of the speaker, not the listener.))

Bannishtar looked over the scores.

"Well," said the centaur, "You'll need to do better in Herbology if you want to pass on to NEWT level, as Herbology is a required NEWT for entrance into the auror academy. You'll need an A on the Herbology exam.Your Defense work is impeccable, and your Transfiguration scores are right on the mark. Keep those up and you'll have no trouble getting into NEWT Defense and Transfiguration.

"You'll also need to do a little better on the Potions and Charms OWLs than you have in those classes. You'll need to be prepared for anything, and part of that is taking Potions and Charms in addition to the other classes I advise you take at NEWT level. Professor Sneckenberg takes only the best with a score of Outstanding on the Potions theoretical and practical OWL. You're averaging about an E which, for MOST professors, would be adequate. Sister St. Claire, for instance, only requires an E grade.

"I really don't think this will be too difficult for you, Amzi," said the centaur, "Herbology is the only thing you'll seriously need to learn well in a short amount of time, which may be a tall order, but not impossible."

OOC: Yeah, I wasn't entirely sure, it was the "in their own language" bit that I misread, the "their" that really throws you off.

BIC:

With each critique and criticism Amzi merely nodded. He acknowledged that he must improve and hone his skills if he were to join the elite units.

"Excuse me, professor" Amzi said, usually he didn't interrupt but Amzi felt that this was an important question. "What can I do with the fact that my english is, not so good?" Amzi said, knowing that most of his exams, more the theoretical ones then the practical ones relied on a grounding in English, which Amzi did not have.

The centaur pondered.

"I am not too sure," said the centaur, "Perhaps...ah...I shall talk to Professor Aphelion. Perhaps we can arrange some kind of spell that will translate the written word for you. I cannot promise anything because charms and enchantments are not my area of expertise, but it was Professor Aphelion who created this room," the centaur gestured to the grand trees above them, "and if he could do that, I am sure he could arrange something. The Professors are handling the giving of the exams this year due to a...lack of staff on the Ministry side of things, so I doubt we will encounter much resistance to setting up something for you as a special case."

Bannishtar hoped that something could be done for the boy, though he had much confidence that one of the other Professors could arrange something.
