Welcome to Hogwarts Interactive Role Play, one of the net's best in Harry Potter and Hogwarts role plays. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Here at Hogwarts our students are currently in their Seventh Year. Last year, the war against the Knights crescendoed into a direct attack against the school. Disappearances are still reported (or not) daily, and the Dark Lord and his Knights of Walpurgis have succeeded in spreading their message of "do as thou will" far and wide across the globe. Magical Law Enforcement, which is now the only authority in the wizarding world under Martial Law, has responded by tightening security, controlling the media, and strictly enforcing curfews and other laws. Their control is damaging to the people's freedom, and their hierarchy is a suspicious lot. It is clear that some members of the MLE like their new found power a bit too much, others see it necessary, but all are in serious danger of being consumed by it. But with the picture of just what Azariah Amaranth is after becoming ever clearer, and a third player in the form of a group called SAVIOR entering the scene, what will the MLE do next to ensure that they've got the situation under control?

The Elementium, the Higher Plane that had once been hidden just beyond the veil in the Department of Mysteries, and the Deathly Hallows. The pieces of the puzzle have been identified, but what picture do they make?

Today is Day 1 of Year Seven. Students have had time to recover from the Knight's attack, and are beginning to reluctantly return to the walls of Hogwarts. The safety of the school has been diminished, bringing up the question everyone must ask. Are you safe anywhere these days? It's up to each individual to decide their fate, where will you decide to go?

Career Advice - Diana Crawford; Year 5 - Day 8 - Career Advisory Day

Diana, at her appointed time, entered the classroom after seeing Margo Wright file out.

"Hello, Banni," the Gryffindor greeted, before taking a seat.

"I don't really want to waste your time by having you pull pamphlets, because I want to play professional quidditch after graduation. There's no way that an entry-level Ministry position or spending my days in a Potions laboratory is going to be an appropriate use of my time."

Diana thought it was best to state what she thought plainly--She couldn't tell her parents about her life's ambition, that would only result in them using her full name during the conversation.

"Diana Eugenia Crawford, we sent you there to learn magic, not learn a few snazzy tricks with a household appliance!"

Di could practically hear the conversation unfold already. Putting the fictional scenario out of her head, she tried to be interested in hearing Bannishtar's input on her plans.

Bannishtar's eyes widened when Miss Crawford entered the room and promptly announced that she wanted to be a Quidditch Player.

"Well," said the centaur, actually somewhat amused by her bluntness, "My response to that is that you should follow your dreams. If that is what you wish, then you should attempt it. I am sure there are others with more knowledge than I how to get into a professional Quidditch league. I myself do not know that much about it, I'm afraid, and, in any case, this is a meeting of academic importance. I need to do my job, so please at least humor me. Also, it does not hurt to at least know your options and to have a back up plan."

If the centaur had been completely honest, then he would say that, although it didn't bother him that many students wished the glamor of a career as a Quidditch player, professional dueler, or wizarding rock star, but it did annoy him when they refused to accept reality and any advice that they should still focus on their academic performance. The chances of becoming a quidditch player and maintaining that for any length of time, given the statistics, was slim. Luck or injury could seal one's fate in that line of work, and that is if they even make a team.

"Just in case. You are a good flyer, or so I'm told," said the centaur, "but it is good to keep one's options open. So...before I look at your grades, what else does interest you, Miss Crawford? Again, I ask you to humor me."

The centaur smiled, warmly.

((OOC: I'm going to need Diana's grades, or some idea of her academic performance so I'm not just making things up. You can PM me them if you like.))

Diana fidgeted on her tree stump.

"My best subject is, of course, Muggle Studies. But it's far too late for me to continue my education in the Muggle world, so my only options are in the Magical world. I'm a fair broom in the air, but I'm not sure how great an Auror I'd be, unless my main assignments were on muggle-related crime."

Actually,
thought Diana, That didn't seem like a bad gig to have. She could round up Wizards performing magic amongst muggles, and defend muggles against the rising threat of Amaranth.

"Well," said the centaur, "aurors generally deal with open acts of violence against Muggles, lesser crimes delegated to a subdivision of Magical Law Enforcement. Aurors have heavy standards, however. An extra four years training at the Auror Academy once you leave Hogwarts, and to get in you'll have to have a NEWT in potions, charms, herbology, Defense Against the Dark arts--of course--and Transfiguration. Aurors must be well-rounded and capable of dealing with any threat. I would have to say that, given your marks in Potions, it is a long shot at best that you would get into Professor SNeckenberg's NEWT class. She can be much too strict at times. Yet, even so, you are averaging a P in Potions, so perhaps a career in the Auror Office is not for you."

Banni riffed through some of his notes before stopping on a page that had the information he was looking for.

"Ah," he said, "however, there are careers that are probably more in your chosen field, if it is that you wish to work on the Muggle side of Magical Law Enforcement. There is the Misuse of Muggle Artifacts Office, which is a branch of Magical Law Enforcement. Some wizards like to pull...shall we say..."pranks" on unsuspecting Muggles by enchanting everyday objects. Many Muggles are taken into St. Mungo's with injuries ranging from nasty bites from their own teacups to wounds sustained from an exploding toilet. Other times, however, objects enchanted by wizards accidentally make their way into the muggle world and are bought or kept by muggles. This is more often the case. As such, the Misuse of Muggle Artifacts Office regulates what objects may be enchanted and what may not, so as to limit the number of such items making their way into the hands of Muggles who are none the wiser to their true properties. In both cases, the Misuse of Muggle Artifacts Office sends someone out to disenchant the object, remove or destroy it if necessary, and clean up the scene before more Muggles are alerted to the use of Magic."

Banni cleared his throat. There were actually a lot of jobs available. The centaur was basically repeating almost word-for-word what he'd read about these subjects, but it was the best he could do.

"For such an entry-level position in the Misuse of Muggle Artifacts Office, you'll be doing a lot of dispelling of enchanted objects, so you will need to be well-versed in charms, as well as counter-curses and defensive spells. Because of that, you'll need to earn N.E.W.T. level in Charms. Sister St. Claire requires only an Acceptable for the theoretical portion, but asks that you be more proficient in actually casting these spells. As such, you'll need an Exceeds Expectation on the practical portion to be accepted into her N.E.W.T. level. Though you are averaging about an A in Charms right now, I do believe that you can meet the requirements. If anything, Sister St. Clair has informed me that she will meet with any student wishing to take her NEWT class that did not meet her OWL requirements, to discuss possible advancement.

"As for Defense, you only need an Ordinary Wizarding Level certification to be considered, but I have been told that it looks better on an application to have N.E.W.T. level, so I suggest you try and meet the standards to get in. Professor Stuart requires her N.E.W.T.-level students to have achieve an A on their O.W.L.s.

"Magic Concepts also looks good on a resume, because the subject is so broad and because it delves deep into the heart of magic, it looks good on almost any application. Professor Tortal only requires an Acceptable grade to get in.

"And,"
said the centaur, "You'll need a NEWT in Muggle Studies.

"You're currently averaging about an O in Muggle Studies, so you should have no problem passing the exam,"
Banni went on, consulting her grades, "You're doing acceptable in Tortal's class, above average in Defense...you may have to work a bit to maintain your Charms grade, because you're doing well enough right now, but in order to pass to N.E.W.T. level, you'll need to achieve an Acceptable on the theoretical exam and an Exceeds Expectations on the Practical. You're not doing poorly in most of these classes...it is just that you're not doing as well as I your Professors believe you can."

The centaur looked again through his papers.

"Ah," said the centaur, "There is also the Office of Magical Law Enforcement's Obliviator Squad," said the centaur, "They are well-versed in the art of Memory Charms and Memory Modification. When a Muggle witnesses of is the victim of something magical-related, an Obliviator must arrive and delete the memory from their brain. They only require NEWTS in Charms and Muggle Studies, Muggle Studies being needed because you'll have to invent a lie to implant in their brains to replace the one you remove. They are vital to maintaining the International Statue of Secrecy, as are all the jobs in this field. I could go on, but I have one more suggestion you might find interesting:

"There is, of course, the Improper Use of Magic Office, which has a subdivision dealing with Magic-use around Muggles. Mainly it is simple desk jobs, letting people know when they've violated the International Statute of Secrecy or other laws concerning the use of magic, but they maintain a few field agents that work in-tandem with members of Magical Law Enforcement. For an entry-level position, you'll only need a NEWT in Muggle Studies and History of Magic. Other than that, the required OWL-level Defense Against the Dark Arts, Transfiguration, and Charms grades are easily obtained. You may need to meet specific requirements set by Professors to get into NEWT classes, but you only need an 'Acceptable' to be certified on the Ordinary Wizarding Level even if you don't go on to NEWT level."

Of course, none of these positions really existed anymore. Everything was done by Barrabas and his dogs, and they shared no intelligence with anyone outside their circle, so there was no telling what methods they employed. The Wizengamot was also defunct, so any past rulings on what was considered "improper" could be followed or not followed depending on what the MLE decided. A few Obliviators still existed, and they still worked to deal with threats to the Statute of Secrecy, but their numbers had diminished to those loyal to Barrabas, and there was no telling what other people whose memories the Obliviator Squad had been tasked with modifying. Further, it did not seem like there was much of a separation between the Muggle and Wizarding Worlds ever since the destruction of the Ministry, and little work went towards reconstructing the boundries between worlds. The last time the Muggle Prime Minister (something Banni had only learned of recently--"A Muggle Minister? Whatever does he do and why do we choose to reveal ourselves to him?" was Banni's question) was contacted, was when Hugh Logan was alive, yet Muggles are witness (or victims) to random acts of magic every day these days without the Muggle Minister being informed so that he can come up with a convenient lie ("Ah, so that is the reason," Banni replied when he got the answer).

How did Banni learn all this? From the spy network that SAVIOR had set up, of course. The centaur and other SAVIOR members received such troubling intelligence from spies within Barrabas' own circle (though, usually just lower-level enforcement agents and junior aurors) whenever possible.

Still, it was not all for naught. There was much good that could come from teaching the students what it is they would need to learn to perform these tasks. Someone will need to take up the reigns even if the structure of the Ministry as it has been known no longer exists.

It seems as though, these days, the actual learning had taken presidence over grades and certifications.

Banni handed Ms. Crawford all the necessary pamphlets regarding the subjects he'd detailed.

"Is there anything else you want to know? Any other fields you haven't mentioned that might interest you?" he asked.

Diana's heart sank at the mention of an Outstanding in Potions.

That seemed near unattainable. Hopefully her studying would be enough to pass and go onto Sneckenberg's class. If not, getting N.E.W.T.s in the other subjects would be simple to achieve, if she put in enough effort to studying. Connor was better at Defense against the Dark Arts than she was. Hopefully he'd be around to help out.

Clutching all of the pamphlets the centaur had bestowed upon her, Diana rose, sliding her satchel onto her back.

"Thank you, Banni for your help. I'll be sure to decide on which career, even though I still think Quidditch is my number one option. A gig being a Muggle Artifacts expert doesn't sound half bad either, though."

Diana left Bannishtar's classroom, already wondering if she looked better in Puddlemere's colors rather than Cannon's colors.
