Welcome to Hogwarts Interactive Role Play, one of the net's best in Harry Potter and Hogwarts role plays. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Here at Hogwarts our students are currently in their Seventh Year. Last year, the war against the Knights crescendoed into a direct attack against the school. Disappearances are still reported (or not) daily, and the Dark Lord and his Knights of Walpurgis have succeeded in spreading their message of "do as thou will" far and wide across the globe. Magical Law Enforcement, which is now the only authority in the wizarding world under Martial Law, has responded by tightening security, controlling the media, and strictly enforcing curfews and other laws. Their control is damaging to the people's freedom, and their hierarchy is a suspicious lot. It is clear that some members of the MLE like their new found power a bit too much, others see it necessary, but all are in serious danger of being consumed by it. But with the picture of just what Azariah Amaranth is after becoming ever clearer, and a third player in the form of a group called SAVIOR entering the scene, what will the MLE do next to ensure that they've got the situation under control?

The Elementium, the Higher Plane that had once been hidden just beyond the veil in the Department of Mysteries, and the Deathly Hallows. The pieces of the puzzle have been identified, but what picture do they make?

Today is Day 1 of Year Seven. Students have had time to recover from the Knight's attack, and are beginning to reluctantly return to the walls of Hogwarts. The safety of the school has been diminished, bringing up the question everyone must ask. Are you safe anywhere these days? It's up to each individual to decide their fate, where will you decide to go?

Career Advice - Ian de Ponte du Lac; Year 5 - Day 8 - Career Advisory Day

Ian knocked on the door to Professor Tortal's office. With any luck, Tortal will be out and Ian can put this meeting off until later. He wasn't looking forward to it. Despite Tortal being his Head of House, Ian could never really find much to like in the man. He'd dealt with Ian and his classmates in a rather cold manner during all of their years in school, he smoked those awful stogies, he liked strange music, he taught Ian and his classmates illegal magic, and he often times confused the hell out of each and every one of his students with abstract concepts Ian wondered if he even understood. Aside from some manner of control over his elementium (afformentioned illegal magic), Ian really couldn't recall anything the Professor had taught him in the nearly three years Ian had been in the enigmatic man's class.

Also, Tortal simply gave Ian the creeps.

And then, there was everything else Ian had to deal with. After all, his step brother Alphonse was trying to kill him on the orders of the Dark Lord. Then, there was the the odd connection between Ian and Alphonse that allowed Ian to glimpse things about his step brother he'd rather not have seen and the excruciating pain that spread throughout his chest (where he'd received the web-like, lighting-struck scar that spread across his abdomen) whenever the phenomenon occurred. Every time the visions or the seizures happened (which, thankfully, Ian had not experienced for a few montsh), Ian felt as though was about to die. Finally, there was Aunt Julia and The-Thing-From-Beyond-The-Veil's enigmatic words. The apparitions of his visions had proclaimed, in no uncertain terms, that he was going to die, and he had no choice.

All in all, it seemed that, of all the students at Hogwarts, Ian's future was the least uncertain.

Putting down a beaker filled with a strange colored liquid, Professor Tortal turned away from his workstation in the back of the class. Lifting goggles away from his eyes and placing them atop his head, he tugged at rubber gloves and snapped them to the floor in front of the station. Rolling his shoulders and tossing the goggles behind him as he trotted back towards his desk, Charles flicked his wrist and opened the door before rounding his desk.

"Good day, Mr. Ponte du Lac," his voice carried. He sat on the edge of his seat, adjusting the collar of his suit before he reclined into his chair.

Damn it. He was in. Sigh.

Ian entered Tortal's office and quietly sat down.

"Morning Professor,"
Ian said, disguising his trepidation with indifference, "So...how's this supposed to go?"

"It's going to start with me looking through this giant pile of files, followed by me questioning you about what you want to do for a career, then looking at your grades to see if you meet the minimum requirements," Charles responded dryly, beginning on the first part of his short rant.

Charles pulled out Ian's file and laid it open on his desk.

"So, Mr. Ponte du Lac," Charles reclined into his seat; opening his arms half way and turning his palms towards the ceiling. The Professor gave his student a look, telling him to proceed.

"So...what, Professor?" asked Ian, being belligerent simply for the sake of it. He was in no mood, to be honest. His fat was sealed. The M.L.E. was making sure of that, forcing him to lead them to Alphonse. Fear gnawed at his guts, making him feel ill. He had no control over his fate. He couldn't act out against that, so he was acting out against everyone else. Simple.

"So... what do you want to do for a career? I didn't realize you needed further explanation," Professor Tortal replied, yawning. The professor was only slightly concerned. Ian's grades had made a sharp downward slope, yet he didn't know why.

Ian sighed.

"Well, sir," he said, "I've been groomed all my life for service in the Auror Office. Military service has always been my family's thing. Alphonse was the first one in centuries to go to the actual administrative side and..well.."

Ian paused. He didn't need to tell Tortal what became of Alphonse.

"Anyways," he said, "when my father died, I think I really seriously considered becoming an auror, but with the way things are now...I don't want to be one of Barrabas' dogs. He's a disgrace. My father hated him."

And Ian, for all the grief he'd caused Anton, for all the resentment he held for the man who had cared for him, kept him fed and housed, was more than happy to defect to his step-father's point of view. Barrabas wasn't half the Head of Magical Law that Anton was, and Anton wouldn't have caused all this had he not been killed by Alphonse.

In short, Ian blamed his step-brother, the man responsible for the murder of their father.

"So...to be honest, I don't really know. I was groomed and educated for this one thing, and now I can't stand the thought of being part of it. It just doesn't seem like there's anything worthwhile for me to work for."

Of course, the deterioration of the Auror Office was not the only reason Ian felt that academic fulfillment was ultimately futile. There was also the notion that his fate was pretty much sealed at this point, anyway. What is there to work for if you're just going to end up dead? And, by the way things were playing out, it seemed as though Ian's end would come very soon.

In a way, Ian had entered service under Barrabas DuMaine anyway, it seemed. The Auror Office had tapped him and tasked him with tracking down Alphonse. A face-to-face meeting with the man who killed Anton seemed inevitable, as did Ian's end.

But isn't that what Ian would have signed up for if he'd entered the Auror Office of his own volition? Risking his neck for the greater good would have been part of the job, wouldn't it? Or was Ian, after all, just a coward now that he had been presented with a situation where he actually had to risk his neck?

Am I coward?
