| Welcome to Hogwarts Interactive Role Play, one of the net's best in Harry Potter and Hogwarts role plays. We hope you enjoy your visit. Here at Hogwarts our students are currently in their Seventh Year. Last year, the war against the Knights crescendoed into a direct attack against the school. Disappearances are still reported (or not) daily, and the Dark Lord and his Knights of Walpurgis have succeeded in spreading their message of "do as thou will" far and wide across the globe. Magical Law Enforcement, which is now the only authority in the wizarding world under Martial Law, has responded by tightening security, controlling the media, and strictly enforcing curfews and other laws. Their control is damaging to the people's freedom, and their hierarchy is a suspicious lot. It is clear that some members of the MLE like their new found power a bit too much, others see it necessary, but all are in serious danger of being consumed by it. But with the picture of just what Azariah Amaranth is after becoming ever clearer, and a third player in the form of a group called SAVIOR entering the scene, what will the MLE do next to ensure that they've got the situation under control? The Elementium, the Higher Plane that had once been hidden just beyond the veil in the Department of Mysteries, and the Deathly Hallows. The pieces of the puzzle have been identified, but what picture do they make? Today is Day 1 of Year Seven. Students have had time to recover from the Knight's attack, and are beginning to reluctantly return to the walls of Hogwarts. The safety of the school has been diminished, bringing up the question everyone must ask. Are you safe anywhere these days? It's up to each individual to decide their fate, where will you decide to go? You're currently viewing our forum as a guest. Charles had stashed his numerous bottles of mead into the enchanted drawers of his desk; letting them roll into the dark abyss - away from the eyes of students. He had cleaned out his ash tray earlier in the morning, shaved his face so not a single whisker was out of place, and was dressed in his classic mafioso suit-tie outfit. Taking a breath, the professor leaned back in his enchanted chair, stared at the ceiling, and began to spin. Waiting. Waiting. |

Leighton sighed heavily before knocking politely and entering the Head of Slytherin's office. In all honesty, she hadn't really thought much about her future yet even though she had spent basically all of last year in America preparing for it. She knew she wanted to do something that would give her high praise in the Wizarding world. She just didn't know what. Leighton waved a half hearted greeting to the professor who seemed to spining around in his chair and spoke softly. "Good morning Professor Tortal." She said as she sunk down into the seat and glanced around the room nervously. Everything felt so, professional. It wasn't a feeling Leighton adored. [OOC: Seeing as though it appear you're not going to post soon I might not get to the computer due to timezones. If someone else is on and you RP their meeting first than I understand. I'm Aussie, most of you are American, it's hard for me to be on at the same time.] Edited by Leighton Fairchild, Mar 25 2010, 10:40:05 AM.

Charles slowly turned in his seat so he faced the opposite end of his desk. He sat up straight and neatly folded his hands on the narrow space in between stacks and piles of accumulated papers - making sure not to knock anything over. "Good morning, Miss Fairchild," the professor greeted. Charles hadn't expected many (if any) of the students from his house to come so early in the morn. Though the unspoken Slytherin code was to achieve regardless of what end, most of the 5th year group cared more about social stature than performance and achievement. "Did you go without breakfast?" He asked, gracefully lifting his hands off his desk. He began to shuffle through the piles of papers and files. "If you're hungry or thirsty, food and drink can be provided." After a moment or so of searching, Charles found Leighton's file half way through the pile. Plopping it on the desk, making a surprisingly loud cracking sound, Professor Tortal sat back into his chair and rested his arms on the armrests. OOC: I'm typically online a lot of the time. "Oh no I'm alright Professor, I stopped by for a brief breakfast before. I'm not usually concious at this time but I thought it would beb better to do all this now rather than later." Leighton explained with a small awkward shrug. Leighton wondered what she'd tell Professor Tortal she wanted to do when she was older. The only plans she had were to take over her father's company when he passed on but by the looks of it, he was going to pull through for another fifty years at least. The biggest dream job wise for Leighton was to become a teacher or a healer. Most people knew that Leighton tended to coddle people and she loved children even if she spoke cynically of them sometimes. But if Leighton chose to be a teacher, she didn't know what type of professor she'd be. Her bes subjects were probably Transfiguration and History of Magic (much to everyone's suprise) so they'd be her best bet. Glancing at the Slytherin head she smiled slightly before saying, "I think I want to be either a healer or a teacher after school, sir." Leighton said in a tone that knew her mind was made up. They were the two main options she wanted to have the chance to persue and she hoped her less than perfect potions skills wouldn't affect her chances. [OOC: All good, I'm glad I'm not chucking anything out of order. I tend to do that a lot. (: ] Edited by Leighton Fairchild, Mar 25 2010, 10:32:21 PM.

OOC: If you would, please PM me the grades you have in all classes your character takes. If you are averaging in a class, leave it off the list, or... include it if you wish to do so. BIC: "Mm," Charles nodded, leaning forward in his seat, beginning to shift through her file. "I would consider both to be... careers only suited to those who were born for the job." Taking Leighton's grade sheets from the "core" classes, Charles set them aside; piling them on top of each other, but placing the papers so one could easily be removed from the other. Glancing around, Professor Tortal searched for the nursing pamphlet provided by Saint Mungos for prospective students. After a moment or so, Charles saw it. Half way across the room. "Buggar." Holding his hand out, Charles let his wrist dangle and his fingers lazily intermingle. Focusing energies around the pile of pamphlets, he energetically snapped his wrist around so his fingers were pointed towards the ceiling. The pamphlets began to float. Slowly making a bickering motion with the whole of his wrist, the pamphlets levitated and then lowered them onto the small area of his desk. "...Here," Professor Tortal said, pushing the top pamphlet from the top of the pile with his index finger. He picked up the rest of the pile and sheepishly dropped them to the floor. "That... should give you a... erm.... not-so-great perspective into the life of a healer. You can also go to our Hospital Wing and speak with our resident healer; if she's ever... free, of course." Charles cleared his throat, glancing around again. "Not sure if they provided pamphlets for the life of a professor, but then again, it would most likely be over dramatized with an atmosphere of grandeur. To get a feel for teaching, you can shadow a professor here at Hogwarts." OOC: I'll edit in your grades later. Just imagine I talked about what's required and what you have and what you need to focus on. Edited by Charles Tortal, Mar 26 2010, 12:26:27 PM.

"Thank you sir." Leighton said as she glanced at the pamphlet in her hands. "I'd really like to shadow a teacher at some point. It would give me an idea on what type of teaching I would like to focus on." She said with a small nod as she gazed around the room. "I'd probably want to focus on my best subject for teaching I guess but if I decided to do healing what potions grade would I need to get to go onto NEWT's? Leighton asked glancing back at Professor Tortal. Edited by Leighton Fairchild, Mar 26 2010, 10:48:59 PM.

Charles nodded. "I'm sure you could arrange a shadow of Nurse O'Malley to fit your schedule. I'll memo her directly on your behalf." "Now," Charles began, picking up a parchment and holding it outstretched toward Leighton. " According to this, Professor Sneckenberg requires no less than an Outstanding on the Potions O.W.L. So you'll need to perform the applicative potion perfectly, as well as ace the entire theoretical portion." Charles reclined in his chair. "It won't be any small feat, especially considering the Professor who created the exam. As long as you apply yourself enough, the end result should be fine. I also understand that later today, she'll be unveiling the applicative potion for the exam." Edited by Charles Tortal, Mar 28 2010, 08:24:22 PM.

"Thank you sir." Leighton said with a smile as she twiddled her fingers in a display of slight nervousness. She wasn't that talented at potions but knew that she could probably lift her grade if she focused on it more. She just didn't enjoy the subject as much. "Anything else I need to work on grade wise?" She asked a little worried on the workload she might have to take on. |

Charles glanced over Leighton's grades; making note of her potions and charms grades for her interest in healing. "...Yes," the professor said tentatively. "Your potions grade is absolutely abysmal. To be a healer, you will need to achieve "Exceeds Expectations" at N.E.W.T. Potions, Transfiguration, Herbology, Charms, and Defense Against the Dark Arts." He folded his hands and looked up at Leighton, "If you choose to be a professor, you need to get near perfect marks in your subject area and above average grades everywhere else. Keep that in mind." Charles coughed, pressing the side of a closed fist against his lips as he did so. "Now, erm, you may leave, if you wish, unless you have a few questions."
