Welcome to Hogwarts Interactive Role Play, one of the net's best in Harry Potter and Hogwarts role plays. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Here at Hogwarts our students are currently in their Seventh Year. Last year, the war against the Knights crescendoed into a direct attack against the school. Disappearances are still reported (or not) daily, and the Dark Lord and his Knights of Walpurgis have succeeded in spreading their message of "do as thou will" far and wide across the globe. Magical Law Enforcement, which is now the only authority in the wizarding world under Martial Law, has responded by tightening security, controlling the media, and strictly enforcing curfews and other laws. Their control is damaging to the people's freedom, and their hierarchy is a suspicious lot. It is clear that some members of the MLE like their new found power a bit too much, others see it necessary, but all are in serious danger of being consumed by it. But with the picture of just what Azariah Amaranth is after becoming ever clearer, and a third player in the form of a group called SAVIOR entering the scene, what will the MLE do next to ensure that they've got the situation under control?

The Elementium, the Higher Plane that had once been hidden just beyond the veil in the Department of Mysteries, and the Deathly Hallows. The pieces of the puzzle have been identified, but what picture do they make?

Today is Day 1 of Year Seven. Students have had time to recover from the Knight's attack, and are beginning to reluctantly return to the walls of Hogwarts. The safety of the school has been diminished, bringing up the question everyone must ask. Are you safe anywhere these days? It's up to each individual to decide their fate, where will you decide to go?

The Forbidden Forest; Day 6 - Dinner after the Second Task (HNG)

Sawyer had all the time in the world and no place to go, except move forward. Her legs carried her past the Great hall where dinner was commencing but she opted for the fresh, cold air of the grounds and bipassed the door. She couldn't eat now anyways, her flat stomach was still digesting her miniscule breakfast but she felt no urge to statisfy something what wasn't complaining...yet.

The grounds were cold and bare, a light snow falling down, sprinkling the already frozen earth with a new layer of white. It was so picturesque, the dark grounds finding illumination from the castle and it's hundreds of windows, all the candles and fires inside still burning brightly. The moon seemed to shine down upon Sawyer as she walked, her hands stuffed deeply into her pockets.

She decided to follow the moonlight, trudging her way across the grounds, letting the bright beam of light guide her into the forbidden forest. Sawyer didn't stop and think twice before crossing the invisible barrier seperating the forbidden side from the unforbidden side.

The woods hardly frightened her, even during the night. The tall, elder trees grew in abundance, their leaves creating a canopy which allowed only fragments of the moonlight to sparkle her surroundings. After a few more steps (or a few hundred, it wasn't like she was counting), Sawyer came across a small opening, where no trees were grown. Above her, the tree tops opened and the moon shone down on her, making her already pale skin almost transparent.

A fallen log lay still in the small clearing, almost begging to be sat on. Sawyer obliged, rubbing her raw hands together as she sat in the silence. It was peaceful, it was quaint. And she was alone. There was not one person in the entire castle she would want to share this serene moment with besides herself.

From behind her ear, she withdraw a lone cigarette, the one she had put away for safe keeping while in the dungeons talking with Ed Fairfax. Sawyer held it gingerly in her fingers for a few moments, admiring whoever created the horrible, cancerous - yet soothing stick of nicotine. With a flick of her wrist, Sawyer withdrew her wand and her cigarette end glowed orange.

A swirl of grey smoke, more noticable in the nighttime than in the day, exited from her mouth as she exhaled. Suddenly it seemed like everything she ever worried about vanished with the smoke as it disappeared. It was a strange feeling, not feeling anything. Strange but nice.

John moved into a new part of the forest clearing, this part John did not recognize. However, he did recognize one thing. Sawyer West was in the forest, smoking a cigarette. "A Muggle Cigarette Sawyer? I didn't think Slytherin's were allowed to have anything to do with muggles" John teased, trying to make her jump.

John's fury subsided slightly, the anger abated, perhaps only temporarily, the joke had loosened some of the tension which had been bundled tightly within John. Then again, John had released a lot of anger at Juliet earlier, and that also could be a reason.

John almost walked out but something made him stop, he didn't usually talk to Slytherin's and prior to this moment, nothing had ever encouraged him to talk to Slytherin's. However, two things had changed, one was that John only now realized that Sawyer, even to him was very attractive and two, that the attempt at dating solely Gryffindor's had failed and at this rate, he would be an ex to the entire female population of Gryffindor. It was these two reasons that John even dared talk to a Slytherin, after Juliet, what John wanted was to date someone so diametrically opposite to him that they were almost the same. While, admittedly, out loud this would make little sense, it all seemed very logical to John in his head.

Sawyer had been lost in her own thoughts. It felt so open, so free from where she sat, she wondered for a moment if it was real. The air felt cold and numbed her but she cared not. Sawyer took another deep pull and was suddenly and unceremoniously yanked from her blissful oblivion. Coughing slightly on account of shock, Sawyer's gray eyes zeroed in on her interruption.

John Holland.

Where all Gryffindor's this meddlesome? All Sawyer wanted was solitude and yet he had to come and invade her space. "Oh ha ha, you don't know the first thing about being a Slytherin Holland. You don't even have what it takes," She retorted, her eyes narrowing.

In a way, it was nice not to be so alone. She had someone to enjoy the beauty of the earth with - but it was a Gryffindor. Of all the rotten luck. "What are you doing wandering around the forest? Don't you know that it's forbidden?" Sawyer asked, ashing her cigarette onto the green forest floor and taking another drag.

She let the smoke settle into her lungs until they sufficiantly blackened them and then released, the smoke exiting her mouth. "Aren't you supposed to be back inside the castle with all the other little goodie-two-shoes?"

"I wouldn't want to know the first thing about being a Slytherin, nor would I want to have what it takes" John snorted, Slytherin's were the scum of the earth, and so Sawyers insult merely bounced off John's ego without leaving so much as a mark.

John opened his mouth to explain the long story of why he was in the forest, about Juliet, about his rage, but he caught himself. His eyes narrowed, instead he muttered "exploring, not afraid of any of the beasts that live here are you Sawyer?" John said, insinuating that Sawyer was in fact terrified of being in the forest.

The goodie two shoes comment hurt John more then he let Sawyer know, goodie two shoes was Addie, not John. Even more so, John couldn't think of anything witty, his mind was completely full of stupid retorts, "What about you Sawyer? what brings you to the forbidden forest?" John asked, still standing facing the now turned around Sawyer with his arms folded.

Yeah, right. Sawyer knew that secretly, underneath it all, everyone wanted to at least take a test drive in a Slytherin's boots. Everyone had that buried hatred for the world and all the things in it, and they were jealous that they had to hide their distaste, unlike the Slytherin's who wore it on their sleeves. She rolled her eyes at his comment.

"Please, me? Afraid? You don't know the first thing about me, Holland." Sawyer bit back. She wasn't afraid for anything, maybe when she was younger the woods had terrified her, but not anymore. What beasts did she have to fear exactly? Sawyer already lived through the terror of the wilderness once. And from her experience she had grown stronger, she had learned.

The only thing we have to fear, is fear itself, she recalled from a muggle book her mom had read to her when she was younger. Sawyer understood that, now more than she had when she was little.

"The only thing I was afraid of was being interrupted by someone like you." All in all, John Holland wasn't a bad guy. Obviously Sawyer didn't know him well enough to not judge, but he was decent. Still Sawyer had a way she was supposed to act, and she couldn't just drop the mask and let him in.

That would be unacceptable.

"Like I would tell you what I was doing in here," She told him knowingly, flicking her burnt-out cigarette onto the forest floor. "Why would I? It's not like you trust me enough to listen to the truth anyways, am I right?

"Are you sure you belong in Slytherin, that sounded more like a Gryffindor comment" John said, the girl was obviously proud of the house she came from, but John was taken aback by how the girl feared nothing. John knew nothing of Sawyers past, and was unaware of the traumatic events in the forest. However, even John couldn't fail to notice the steal in her voice she was truly unafraid of the forest. John smiled and thought "now this is my kind of girl".

"I sincerely apologize for interrupting you" John said, with a mock bow and a cheeky smile. She was clearly joking and John couldn't help taking the piss of her, for saying that. "Does this mean you are afraid of me?" John said edging closer, he wanted to move slowly as not to startle her, she was like an animal, move too quickly and you'll set off her defense mechanisms.

"Come on Sawyer, who am I going to tell?" John said, taking the sentence as being allowed to sit, John slowly sat on the ground near Sawyer.

"Why don't you try?"

Sawyer's lip curled, of course she belonged in Slytherin - what other option did she have? It's either your a snake, or your a nobody. And Sawyer West couldn't be a nobody. Her gray eyes followed him as he moved, never straying from him for a second. She trusted him about as far as she could thrown him - and she probably couldn't even pick him up.

"Afraid of you? Sweetheart don't try and flatter yourself." Sawyer replied cooly, a sly smiling creeping onto her pale face. "What's there to be afraid of, anyways? I mean, besides your annoying voice and inflated ego that is." She corrected, pursing her lips.

She watched him sit across from her, her narrowed eyes wondering why he didn't just leave. Was it that he was having a stellar conversation with her? Sawyer doubted that very much, talk was cheap - actions spoke louder than words, right?

But if she was honest with herself, Sawyer knew that if she really wanted him gone, he wouldn't be there right now. There was something about him that gave her a nagging feeling in the back of her mind. She ignored it though. "Try what exactly?" Sawyer arched her eyebrow.

John was starting to get frustrated with Sawyer. One minute it seemed as though she was about to open up and ready to be honest, the next, slammed shut and locked and as frozen as ice. John wondered whether it was worth the frustration to be pursuing.

"Do you treat your friends this way as well? You must not have many of them if you do. Is that why you are in the forest. Do you not have any friends Sawyer?" John said, his mouth twisted into an evil smile. "Oh Sawyer, you can trust me? Open up for once" John said, he was now sure that there was something going on in Sawyer which was willing to open up, something was behind the mask she was putting up, something behind the typical Slytherin arrogance. "But why? There is no one else here?" John thought, it wasn't like she was showing off to her friends. "She doesn't trust you, she barely knows you. She thinks you are going to tell everyone if she tells you. She is afraid" John said, John knew the feeling. Trusting people with secrets didn't come easily to John, not all of them valued trust and loyalty as high as John did.

However, there was also something telling John that if Sawyer truly wanted this conversation over, she would have ended it any time. They had already been standing in the forest talking for a while. If Sawyer wanted John gone, she could have threatened or attacked him, yet she hadn't, she was responding to him, even if it was mainly insults.

Sawyer scowled, who was he to assume she didn't have friends? "Listen Holland, just because I'm alone doesn't mean I don't have friends. Unlike most of those who I associate with, I don't feel the need to be constantly surrounded by bullshit all the time." She told him, pushing her dirty blonde hair from her eyes as she spoke.

"I don't need an entire entourage to follow me everywhere just to seem important," Unlike some people. Those 'people' would without a doubt include Tinsley and Precious - neither of the two seemed able to function on their own. "Why so curious Holland? I thought you would have known the answers anyways, don't Gryffindor's know everything?"

Sawyer grimaced slightly, "Why should I let you in? Why should I open up to you? Give me one good reason." Her fascade was breaking, crumbling slowly like rocks on the edge of the sea, slowly falling into the water, disappearing. Sawyer desperately clung on to the last shred of dignity she possessed and stared at him with a cold look.

John watched as Sawyer pushed her hair out of her eyes, she was getting worked up, John had clearly touched a sensitive spot. "Sorry, just thought you would be like the other Slytherin's, you know, like Tinsley and Precious who always seem to be followed by some group of Slytherin girls" John said, he hated both Tinsley and Precious, they were the exact kind of Slytherin's that John considered to be the worst, arrogant with little to be arrogant about, blood purists with little talent, and mean just for the fun of it.

"No, that would be the Ravenclaw's, us Gryffindors are the brave and loyal ones" John said, unsheathing an imaginary sword, John had heard a rumor that Gryffindor used to carry a great ruby encrusted sword, it made John's impression of the creator of his house even greater. "We stick by our friends. As for knowing everything, unfortunately not."

Despite Johns pressing and prodding he was still shocked to see Sawyer's facade cracking. "I don't think I'm going to convince you with my words, as it's actions that count for the most. I'd say that you've got no reason not to trust me, it isn't like I'm going to snitch on you. I hate people that weasel out on others, and unlike some within my house, made obvious by the fact that I'm here" John said, lifting his hands to the forbidden forest "should show you I'm not a goodie-two-shoes".

"Besides, it's only me and you here. If I was to say anything, you'd be able to deny anything. There is no one else here apart from us and maybe a werewolf" John smiled, "but like I said, I'm a pretty trust worthy person, and I'm pretty good with secrets"

"Do not compare me to Tinsley." Sawyer told him sternly, a serious expression flickering onto her face before returning to its usual scowl. "Or Precious either." She added, a small smile appearing at the corners of her lips.

Sawyer let out a chuckle, so John Holland was brave and couragous now? Please. "Just because you're in the forest doesn't mean your not a goodie-two-shoes. Or that you're brave and full of courage John." Sawyer told him knowingly, her tone suggesting that she could actually just be playing around.

"And what are you saying about Slytherins, that we abandon our friends?" Sawyer asked, confused as to what he was assuming. He got his hatred for anything green from Tinsley, Precious and Julian, the ones that give Slytherin's a bad name. Nobody stopped to rethink their preconcieved notion that all Slytherins were all horrible.

"The reason I don't trust you, is because I don't trust anyone." She admitted openly, tucking her hair behind her ear and looking directly into his eyes. "You can't be too careful now-a-days. Besides, if you don't watch your own back - nobody is going to watch it for you."

John again noticed a certain hardness in Sawyers voice, when he mentioned Precious and Tinsley. John again was taken aback. He was under the impression that the Slytherin girls were as thick as thieves, and he would not put stealing behind some of them, especially if it was something they wanted.

"Let it be one indication, I'm not one to stand around and blow my own horn, not my thing" John said, when Sawyer questioned his bravery. While John often showed signs of a super-ego, he also believed that modesty was appropriate more often then not, if you play yourself up to be bigger then life, people will hate you for it.

"Certainly, people within the Slytherin house have a tendency to not be so loyal, especially when they are determined. I try not to generalize, but as they say prefects lead by example, and what an example the Slytherin prefects have set" John said, Julian and Tinsley were the Slytherin perfects and they were the stereotypical Slytherin's almost as cruel to their friends as they were to their enemies.

John was a bit saddened by Sawyers pessimistic view of the world, John guessed at troubled childhood but had no idea of the depth of the troubles. "You obviously haven't been looking in the right places. Sure there are a few rotten apples, but most people don't usually have malicious intentions without a reason to be malicious. For instance, prior to today I hadn't spoken to you, I don't trust you with my deepest secrets, because that is a trust needed to be earned, but on a simple level, I trust you enough to tell you what I think and how I'm feeling at the moment, I have no reason to think you have any malicious thoughts about me" John said.

ooc: stanta & ian are prefects, i believe.
bic:

"Are you really that blind?" Sawyer asked bluntly, smiling sadly at John, "Do you really think that there are a few rotten apples and the rest good? Its more the other way around sweetheart. There are a few genuinely good people, but the 'rotten apples' without a doubt outnumber them." She informed him, shrugging her shoulder as if it didn't matter. And it really didn't, not that much anyways.

"Everybody has their own agenda." Sawyer added, lazily twirling her wand with her fingertips. A strange thought occurred to Sawyer in that moment, she looked slowly from her wand to John, almost as if contimplating hexing him. "Or, almost everyone has their own agenda." She corrected, would John Holland prove to be that exception?

Sawyer gave him a sad smile again, he really shouldn't trust people so easily, that's how people get hurt. "Are all Gryffindors this naive?" She asked, referring to how open and trusting he seemed to be, even in the presence of a Slytherin.

OOC: You are right, on checking. It should have been Julian and Tinsley. They clearly have the biggest ego characters. No offence to Stanta and Ian, they are both great RPers, but they don't have the stereotypical Slytherin Superego.

Bic:

"Thats how you look at it, I haven't met too many people that are malicious for no reason at all. Sure, if you've gone something that changes it. Some people may be offended by the smallest of things. However, human nature isn't normally mean. One should only see that more people have not committed murder, rape or theft, then have" John said.

"Perhaps this is true, everyone wants to get the most out of life, but most people realize that without a support group you are never going to achieve your life's ambitions. I don't know how you got into this negative mind frame, but certainly there are bad people, to say we are more bad then good, I think is to be stretching it too far" John said, his eyes staring into Sawyers, something happened, for a second Sawyer's eyes traveled from her wand to John. John got the impression that she was going to hex him.

"I'm not sure, Naive is probably the wrong word, optimistic is what I'd use. So how bot it, whats up?" John said, once again trying his luck with Sawyer.

John heard rustling in the tree tops, his eyes scanned the leafy canvass of the forbidden forrest and saw birds flying over head. One owl had was now flying between the tree trunks, it was the one making the noise. It seemed to be heading towards Sawyer. John watched the owl as it got closer and closer, anticipating it's approach. However, it didn't go for Sawyer at all, instead it landed smoothly on John's shoulder and held it's leg out for John to take the roll of parchment from it.

John untied the parchment and gave the owl a gentle pat, as John unrolled the parchment the owl flew off. John wondered who would be writing to him now.

Dear Mr Holland,

We would like to inform you that on a current search of the London area, you're parents have been located and are alive. They have been transferred to St. Mungo's and are in a wing for victims of permanent spell damage, and will quiet possibly need to stay there for the rest of their lives. They will have only the finest healers available to look after them during their stay.

I'm sure you will be able to visit them during your holidays.

Sincerely,

Mafalda Hopkins,
Magical Law Enforcement Officer

John looked down at the letter, the words "alive" and "permanent" jumped off the parchment. John nodded down to the parchment, "at least they are alive" John thought to himself.

As always, Sawyer was astounded at the geniune sound of John's words. It was true, she didn't have much faith in the human race. She was negative, pessimistic and sometimes, would be more than happy to rain on somebodies parade. "The glass is half full too me, John." She admitted, somewhat sadly.

"We're never going to agree on this. You think that the world is this beautiful, peaceful place." Sawyer began, looking at him intently, with a slight sense of pity mingled into her words. "And I don't agree. The sooner we accept that we're never going to compromise the sooner we can move on."

Sawyer watched with heightened curiousity as an owl swooped down and delievered a letter to John. It was too late for regular post, so it had to be something important, right? Sawyer pretended to sit straight and act as if she weren't watching him read the parchment out of the corner of her eye.

"Good news?" She offered, watching John's reaction closely.

"I'm not saying that the world is a great place, not with people like Tinsley and Julian wandering around. However, the world isn't full of Tinsley and Julians. Thank god for that" John said, faking a shudder at the thought of the world full of Tinsley and Julian clones, it would be a nightmare.

"News" John thought, then looked down at the letter in his hand. "Well" John said, deciding to use this point as a lesson for Sawyer in how to open up. "Leadership by example, I guess" John thought to himself.

"A letter from the ministry, they found my parents. They got tortured to insanity by a member of the Knights. They've been transferred to St. Mungos, for permanent spell damage. They were tortured almost to death. My younger brother was with them as well, but he escaped" John said, passing sawyer the scroll of parchment. "Here read it for yourself"

Sawyer felt a shift inside of her as John told her the news of his parents. She flinched when he elaborated that they were tortured, and that they had been taken to St. Mungo's. A blanket of pity fell over her like the snow fell and covered the earth. She was feeling sorry for John Holland.

Taking the scroll gingerly, with a surprised looked etched onto her face, Sawyer's gray eyes quickly scanned the piece of paper before handing it back to the Gryffindor. "Well at least they're not dead." She told him, pointing out the obvious bright side. The darker side, was that they were now mentally unstable and therefore had limited cognitive functions.

Sawyer had befriended a tortured man inside St. Mungo's when she was a resident there, he of course couldn't remember who she was - but it gave the man such joy when he met her everyday, like he was meeting a new friend for the first time. Sawyer frowned, patting the space on the log next to her, motioning for John to join her.

"St. Mungo's is really, really good. They'll take care of them." She said knowingly, pushing her blonde hair from her face and smiling sadly. "Besides, don't optimists think that everything happens for a reason?" Sawyer arched her eyebrow. "At least your brother escaped though, right?"

If Sawyer's father could see her now, comforting a Gryffindor, a mud-blood for all he knew, he would have a fit. He would probably hex the entire forest in his anger. Sawyer couldn't understand it either. It was like a sudden shock - she felt a twinge of compassion towards John, she was actually worried about how he felt.

John noticed the dynamic of the conversation shift. The letter and the scroll had changed Sawyer, she now felt compassion and seemed a little sorry for John. "It's true, they aren't dead. I still have parents" John said, he had gotten over the grieving stage when he read his brothers letter. "I initially thought they were dead, when I got my brothers letter on Christmas that they were attacked" John said, he moved over the log.

John nodded, staring blankly at his shoes. "Yeah, they just ran into the wrong people at the wrong time. It was unlucky. It shows you just gotta live life to the fullest" John said, he began to perspire, he knew the question he wanted to ask. "DoyouwannagotoHogsmeadewithme?" John said, he paused. "Sorry, do you- you know- want to go to Hogsmeade with me? I'll understand if you don't" John said, finding it even harder to take his eyes off his shoes.

A wide smile spread across Sawyer's naturally scowling face, her cheeks which were already pink from the cold seemed to glow darker as she watched John contemplate his shoes. Sawyer had to weigh her options, and quickly. She could agree to accompany him to Hogsmeade, or she could jinx him and that would be that.

The forest was silent as she mulled over her choices, the silence pressing against her with each second she took to deliberate. "Uh," Sawyer bit her bottom lip. If she said yes, her reputation would be destroyed. But, did she care anymore?

Sick of being viewed as a Tinsley-clone, or one of the Queen's minions, Sawyer wanted out. She wanted changed. She wanted to break free of the Slytherin sterotype which bound her, and here John was, offering her a path to help her escape.

"You know what Holland? I would love to." She told him, still smiling. So what if everyone she knew would cringe at the sight of her and John together, being civil towards eachother. Gryffindor and Slytherins alike wouldn't know what to do with themselves.

Afterall, she was already going to hell in a handbasket, so what did she have to lose?
