| Welcome to Hogwarts Interactive Role Play, one of the net's best in Harry Potter and Hogwarts role plays. We hope you enjoy your visit. Here at Hogwarts our students are currently in their Seventh Year. Last year, the war against the Knights crescendoed into a direct attack against the school. Disappearances are still reported (or not) daily, and the Dark Lord and his Knights of Walpurgis have succeeded in spreading their message of "do as thou will" far and wide across the globe. Magical Law Enforcement, which is now the only authority in the wizarding world under Martial Law, has responded by tightening security, controlling the media, and strictly enforcing curfews and other laws. Their control is damaging to the people's freedom, and their hierarchy is a suspicious lot. It is clear that some members of the MLE like their new found power a bit too much, others see it necessary, but all are in serious danger of being consumed by it. But with the picture of just what Azariah Amaranth is after becoming ever clearer, and a third player in the form of a group called SAVIOR entering the scene, what will the MLE do next to ensure that they've got the situation under control? The Elementium, the Higher Plane that had once been hidden just beyond the veil in the Department of Mysteries, and the Deathly Hallows. The pieces of the puzzle have been identified, but what picture do they make? Today is Day 1 of Year Seven. Students have had time to recover from the Knight's attack, and are beginning to reluctantly return to the walls of Hogwarts. The safety of the school has been diminished, bringing up the question everyone must ask. Are you safe anywhere these days? It's up to each individual to decide their fate, where will you decide to go? You're currently viewing our forum as a guest. OOC: I had made the dome desperate after I left. BIC: Charles cupped his hand around the tip of his cigar as Nathan started to speak. Lighting it with his tip of his index finger and his elementium, Charles quickly took a a few swift drags to get the tobacco burning. "That would have been my fault, I'm afraid," Charles admitted, taking a large drag. He sighed after the smoke filled his lungs, releasing the cloud of smoke into the air. "There seemed to be an unauthorized duel in the Pitch, caused by the head of my house's spirit team." Grasping the cigar in his right hand, he dropped his palm to his side. Professor Tortal was about to continue, but a water droplet fell and splashed onto the tip of his nose. "Ah," he said, reaching into the inside pocket of his coat again. Pulling out a small cylinder-like contraption with his left hand, Charles held it upright, squeezed it, and a metal rod began to grow out of the top. After the rod grew to about a meter long, a parasol popped from the top. Stepping to the left side of Nate, Charles held it overhead, shielding them from the rain just as it started pouring down. "I saw spells being fired from the window of my office," the rain pounding against the top of the umbrella was rather verbal. Charles had to speak louder than before. "The lockdown was just about to begin, as well. We cleared out the pitch and sent all the students back inside; I merely wanted to ensure that none of the students would be outside after dark." |

He listened as his fellow Professor explained the reasoning behind the disturbance but not what it was, "Prudent, though it seemed, to intervene my concern is more with the what more so than the why. In my years of travels I've never seen anything like that before and so assume it is not something your average Joe Wizard can conjure." The sternness was all but gone from his voice, replaced now with intellectual curiosity more than anything. Nate considered himself a very learned wizard with a wealth of knowledge most didn't have. But there was no denying that Charles, too, was in the same vein. As the rain began to fall he appreciated the cover from Tortal, stepping closer to be further covered. The anxiousness that had gripped his stomach was mostly gone. Student and Adult alike could be seen walking back to either the Castle or their posts about the Grounds, having been dismissed by Charles and the other Professors. It seemed, strangely, that he had been speaking the truth. Edited by Professor Nate Aphelion, Nov 4 2009, 06:20:21 PM.

"The dome is summoned in nearly the same regard as a Shield Charm," Charles explained, reminiscing in his re-callable years as an unspeakable. "Instead of focusing the shield around yourself as you would regularly, you build it at a distance, and add an energy magnetism to the seams. As the magical energies build upon themselves, it creates a nearly flawless cascade which continues to build until you stop channeling the magnetism effect. The Shield Charm by itself can be broken with a strong enough incantation because the magical energies are spread so far apart. But with the dome, each layer is a new collective of magical energies. It is so thick and seamless that anything that collides with it will simply be deflected, unless the force is stronger than the dome."

Nate felt himself slip seamlessly into that intellectual way of thinking as Charles detailed how the spell was created. It was a rather unusual situation they found themselves in, discussing spell theory in the rain as easily as if they were discussing the latest edition of Transfiguration Today by an open fire with a brandy. Having always been an academic, Nate enjoyed learning from anyone, even Charles. "I'm surprised Charles, here I thought you had no interest in the Defense of others. I admit I'm glad I was wrong." As the words left his lips he felt they sounded rather harsh and not at all fair, even if there was considerable truth to them. He was Deputy Headmaster and so should see the best in people, whatever his opinions were. "I suppose what I mean is I know you have an interest in the less common avenues of magic, which tend to focus on self preservation and gain." Nate looked back to where the dome had faded from existence, "Anyway, I'm glad you were able to stop the fighting in time." |

Ella's mind was still racing when one of the Aurrors decided to interrupt, rather rudely. She raised an eyebrow at the man and opened her mouth to say something, but he had left before she could retort. "Is there any place ve can go in the castle? I do not vant to return to the ship." Ella bit her lip and glanced at her watch, apparently trying to buy a few seconds to make a last minute decision. "Well...there is this one thing, at the school...I wasn't exactly sure about going, but if you want.." The Slytherin looked up at Piotr, wanting to judge how he reacted--after all, if he seemed like he didn't want to go, she certinally wan't going to force the issue. "You see, a few years ago some people in my year--Tristan, Addie, a few others--decided to start this dueling club. We figured it could come in handy when it came to crazy Slytherins and everything...Anyway, I guess with everything that's going on" she gester towards the troup of Aurrors who were following the professors towards the pitch. "You know, the World Cup and the Knights, a bunch of people are going to try and start it again. There's a meeting tonight, and like I said, we could go...I mean, if you want to." (((I'm not sure if I was still supposed to post here after the time changed, but I didn't want you to be stuck lol.))) |

Hm...a dueling club? Piotr thought about it for a moment. Such things were common in Durmstrang, though dueling was declared illegal by the International Confederation of Wizards. Needless to say, there was a reason why Durmstrang's exact location was kept a mystery to all but those who taught or learned there. Still, given the current circumstances, it sounded like a great idea. Perhaps Piotr could lend his guidance, he himself having been taught dueling by some of the best at Durmstrang. Plus, it would be an excuse to spend more time with Ella. "It sounds interesting," said Piotr, "Ve have dueling classes ver I come from, but I understand that Hogvarts keeps to the ban on dueling. I vould love to come, actually. Perhaps I can share some of my expertise...I..uh..." It was then that Piotr realized he still had his hands on Ella's small shoulders. He quickly removed them. "I...sorry," he said, "v-vould you lead the way?" |
