It is now: Year 5 - Day 5 - Lunch/Freetime before the Yule Ball (December 25, 2011 A.D.)

Next: The Yule Ball

Soon: Night time/Martial Lockdown

Today's Forecast: Warm with light snow.

Welcome to Hogwarts Interactive Role Play, one of the net's best in Harry Potter and Hogwarts role plays. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Here at Hogwarts our students are currently in their Fifth Year. This year, Hogwarts has been chosen to host a legendary event, The Triwizard Tournament! However, these are dark times we live in, for the Dark Lord Azariah Amaranth has escaped the bonds which have kept him in Ministry custody, and has destroyed the Ministry in the plain sight of several muggles, effectively placing the Wizarding World under martial law and placing our very way of life in jeopardy. Strict curfews have been placed on all citizens, and now that school has started, no one--not students or staff--are allowed in or out of Hogwarts until further notice. So cancel any trips out you might have, because all students and staff must remain in, and everyone else must stay out. Now the Dark Lord is in preparation to topple the stability of both worlds and all races; to deal the final, shattering blow to the current world order.

Why all this madness; this destruction and anarchy? Just what is Amaranth's ultimate goal?

The first task has now ended. Christmas is here and we all know what that means: The Yule Ball will commence tonight. If your character is planning on attending and doesn't already have a date, be sure to snag one before all the good ones are gone!

Today (Day 5) is Christmas day, so there is no class. We will have morning festivities before moving to lunch and freetime, which will then lead us to the night of the ball.

Hogwarts Caretaker

Stanley Peckle, Hogwarts Caretaker and one of many substitute professors, walked into the History of Magic Classroom, Dog following him, limping and panting (the dog, of course! Stanley Peckle isn't that old!). He looked at Demetria's lesson plan, the ones she had left on her desk. Last class, it read, they had studied the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. It also read that the classes were to study the sixteen-hundreds, the age of the Goblin Rebellions. "Interesting," he said, reading over the material. It had been so long since he had taken the History of Magic course at Hogwarts, having dropped out of the class in his N.E.W.T. year. He hadn't really taken an interest in the subject, even though he was sure he had been there for several makings of history himself. He walked over to the blackboard and began to write. He liked to do things without magic, if it involved learning.

Goblins
Good day, class. I am Professor Peckle, and I will be your substitute History of Magic Professor for today. Professor Aviza is unavailable at the moment, so for those of you wishing to speak to her, I apologise. Today we will be studying Goblins, a Magical Creature of far more than human intelligence. We will be studying the age of the Goblin Rebellions, as they occurred, in chronological order, after your last lesson. First things first, we must understand what a Goblin is.

Goblins are a race of highly intelligent creatures who live side by side with wizards. Goblins are considered to be inferior by many wizards, who foolishly believe that the goblins are comfortable with that arrangement. In fact, goblins are extremely clever and more than able to stand up to wizards. Goblins are short and dark-skinned. They have very long fingers and feet, and some have pointed beards. Some Goblins have dark, slanted eyes. In short, they differ in appearance as much as we as Witches and Wizards do.

Stanley stepped back and admired his writing. It was legible. He set down the chalk with which he had been writing, which was now significantly smaller in size. He sat in the chair in which Demetria usually sat and leaned back, awaiting the students. He would elaborate upon the subject once they arrived. After all, it was their lunch period. He did not expect any students to arrive just yet. Dog was sitting at his heels, and he stroked the canine's fur softly. Dog was getting old. As was Stanley. He couldn't handle much more. He was nearing his late nineties. A Professor shouldn't have to work this long. But it was fine, Stanley loved his work. It let him see the future's leaders, it made him feel like he was somehow influencing them. That was the greatest feeling in the world.

Daniela entered the History of Magic classroom, glancing around.

"Good morning Professor Peckle." She smiled, although she wondered where Professor Aviza was.

She took a seat near the front of the room, pulling out a notebook and jotting down the message on the board.

Harmony walked into the HOM classroom, smiling as she remembered Bex's face when Harry had asked her to go to the Yule Ball with him. She sidled over to Daniela and shuffled onto the bench beside her.
"Hey, what's up?" she asked as she got her book and quill out and started copying down the note on the board, wondering where Proffesor Aviza was.

Daniela grinned as Harmony walked in, "Hey Harmony. Nothing much's going on with me, you?"

She placed her quill down, her notes finished.

"Wonder why Professor Aviza isn't teaching. It's kind of unusual." She said, shrugging nonchalantly, "You excited for the Yule Ball? I know you're going with Jay."

Isaac was an unusually good mood. One much better then the one he had when he started lunch. He entered the classroom with Beth who he was in deep conversation with... "After this short auror finished having his little tantrum." He steered around the tables towards the front of the class.

"Bannishtar came from his classroom to sort this mess out and" He paused to maneuver around a chair. "He dispersed the crowd in a couple minutes. Isaac finished somewhat lamely. "Not very interesting, I know. He made his way to the front and slid down in the desk behind two Gryffindor girls. Taking out his notebook to copy down the notes on the board. He placed his quill in between his teeth while he unscrewed his ink bottle. "You didn't miss much, trust me."

"No idea... it's quite weird..." Harmony mused, blushing when Daniela asked her about the Yule Ball.
"Yeah, me and Jay are going together, I take it you and Oscar are going together? What's your dress like? I'm going to ask my friend to do my hair for me, she is actually amazing at doing hair, she does hers brilliantly every day."
She looked up as two Hufflepuffs, a boy and a girl, walked past the edge of their table. She looked back down at her notes, which she had just finished off with the words: "... differ as much as we as Witches and Witches do."
She sighed and crossed out the second Witches, replacing it with the word Wizards, then realised it would have been much easier for her to just magic it off and sighed in annoyance.

Eve walked into the classroom quickly. Her head was bent down a little, watching her feet move forward. "Evenin'." She muttered to the professor before choosing a seat in the farthest corner. She looked up at the board and took out her necessary supplies for the class and began to take a few notes on what Goblins were.

Margo strolled into the History of Magic classroom, glancing around for someone to sit by. Finding no one, she selected an empty desk towards the back of the classroom. Margo had a method, you see. You sit far back enough that you could talk without being heard, but not so far back as to raise suspicions. The middle of the classroom was good too, as it was harder for the teacher to tell where the chatter was coming from, on the off chance they heard. The seventh from the back row, third from the left colomn was usually a good choice.

She stowed her books under her seat and withdrew a piece of parchment and a quill from her bag. She began jotting down the notes, but got distracted long before the end of the first paragraph. She just couldn't shake the scene in the Great Hall out of her head. Why did people have to be so stupid? June could've killed herself, and for what? To lose a dress size? To get a boyfriend?

Margo shook her head, and may or may not have mumbled something along the lines of "Stupid, shallow girls." As if to prove her point, Margo heard a snipet of conversation that seemed to center entirely around the Yule Ball. No matter how built up the event was, Margo was not going to sit around in the crowded hall for the entire night wrapped up in a much-too-revealing and very-boringly-generic dress trying to get a guy to ask her to dance. No, she had other plans for the night. Plans that weren't quite formulated yet, but plans nonetheless.

After a few minutes of wondering around, Rosalina entered the History of Magic classroom. She looked for somewhere to sit, or someone to sit with. Just then, she saw a Gryffindor girl sitting by herself. Wanting to be friendly, she went towards her. "Hello!" she said smiling brightly. "Do you mind if I sit here?"

As the girl waited a response, she started reading the blackboard. It said something about goblins, whatever they were.
We will be studying the age of the Goblin Rebellions, as they occurred, in chronological order she thought as she read the board, Why do we need to know that?.
Rosalina had always thought History was useless. But she still had to learn. So she finished reading what the Professor had written.

Beth intently listened to Isaac as they sat down, "yea, I heard the end of the Auror's argument with Bannishtar." She still felt a little irritated about that guy. "How can an Auror act like that?" she asked a little louder than she intended. Just then she overheard the two Gryffindors in front of them talking about Yule Ball. Why was everyone talking about that pointless event? Maybe she would have had a different opinion if she was asked to go there as almost every other girl at Hogwarts. As if it wasn't enough she recognized one of the girls to be the one involved in the June incident from earlier in the Great Hall. But as Beth glanced back at Isaac, she decided there was no point of letting her mood down when there's such a kind boy with her. "But you're right," she smiled again, "the only interesting thing to see must have been the Slytherin boy covered in stink sap."

Beth then looked at the blackboard to find out what was their task for today. She didn't even realize Professor Aviza wasn't there as she concentrated on Isaac before.

The students made their way into the classroom as Stanley turned around. "Well, good afternoon, class!" he said cheerily. He smiled at each of the students and began to teach. "Goblins," he began, "are highly intelligent magical creatures. They possess the ability to cast magic without the use of a wand, something only very few witches or wizards have accomplished. The intelligence of Goblins is almost always undermined, and it was for that reason that the Goblins rebelled. These were dark times for the Wizarding World--" Stanley was interrupted by a student.

"How can an Auror act like that?"

His head turned toward the girl. "Ms. Snape," he said, "I don't believe it is your jurisdiction to decide how an Auror must act. They are here for the protection of the school and its students, and if they do their job, well, that is all you must be concerned of. Now, back to the subject of Goblins...."

Stanley proceeded to describe why Goblins rebelled against witches and wizards. "One particularly violent rebellion, though all of them were, but none as much as this, would be the rebellion of Urg the Unclean in 1692. This rebellion was so hazardous, that it was the precise reason for which the Decree for the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy was passed. This not only completes the separation of the two cultures but also lays the responsibility on the various Wizarding governments in each country for maintaining the secrecy of everything from Quidditch games to dragons. Over time, Muggles began to think of magic as the stuff of fairy tales and legends.

"Today, we will be learning the names of Goblins, when they rebelled, and WHY they did so. If you will please copy the notes on the board...."
With that, Stanley waved his wand, and his first set of notes disappeared, leaving a second in their place. They read, in the same sloppy handwriting:

Goblin Rebellions
1584: Ragnuk the First accused Godric Gryffindor of stealing his sword. (Goblins, you see, believe that any item made by a Goblin is their possession. They will lend the item for a certain amount of gold, but it must be returned when the purchaser passes.)
1596: The pursuit and imprisonment of Ug the Unreliable, who was peddling leprechaun gold.
1608: The accidental death of Nagnok, Gringotts Wizarding Bank goblin, at the hands of an untrained Security troll sent by the Ministry of Magic.
1609: Imprisonment of the notoriously violent Hodrod the Horny-handed, who attempted to kill three wizards. (Hodrod the Horny-handed attempted to kill the three with one of their wands.)
1620: The public ducking in the village pond by a gang of young wizards of goblin activist Urg the Unclean.
1631: The Ministry of Magic decree of 1631 preventing magical beings other than wizards and witches from carrying a wand.

Stanley read over the notes then looked at the students. "Well, go on then!" he said, smiling. "It's not that hard! If any of you have questions, I won't hesitate to give details."

Eve stopped writing, and set down her quill before listening to the professor discuss Goblins. She had always loved history, and was so happy to have a class that taught the history of magic. She picked up her quill again, and began to write notes as he spoke. She knew that the OWLs were coming up, and she wanted to be prepared for them.
Notes were scribbled on the board, and she copied them down neatly. Eve sat her quill down and began to think about Harold. A small, well, large part of her thought that maybe he'd ask her to the Yule Ball. They had met only today, but she had thought that they had hit it off so well. That girl is his girlfriend... I think. How could you expect to be chosen over her? She frowned and doodled a star on the corner of her parchment. I shouldn't even go... She briefly wondered if she could even go. She didn't even have a date. Perhaps I should ask someone. Eve thought. She rolled her eyes. Asking someone that was pathetic. If she didn't have a date, she wouldn't go. Plain and simple.

Once again, Margo began jotting down notes on the board. One of these days, I really need to figure out a spell to poof the words onto my parchment. I mean, if the teachers can do it, so can I. Margo, who was in an exceptionally lazy mood today, shook her head. Eh, there's probably some rule against it. Damn rules.

She had just finished jotting down "carrying a wand." when she noticed the Hufflepuff girl sitting next to her. Hey, cut her some slack, her day wasn't off to that great a start so far. "Hey, I'm Margo."

Rosalina looked at the girl next to her just when she finished reading what was on the board. "Hey, I'm Margo," the redhead had said. "I'm Rosalina, but you can call me Rose or Rosie if you want. Rosalina then started copying the notes that were on the board.
Do they really want us to remember all that? Why would someone care about golbins and their rebellions?

Some minutes passed before Rose had finished writing. The girl turned to Margo. "Uhm, well... What's up? said Rosie. She wasn't sure what to say, she would normally talk about something that interested the people that were in the conversation. But, when she was with someone she didn't knew anything about, she felt really awkward when talking about that kinds of things.

'Ms. Snape…'

Beth gulped and paled significantly as Professor Peckle started reproving her. What was wrong with her, she didn't even realize he was talking before. Several students looked her way and she blushed, sinking lower into her seat. She peeped out a weak, "sorry Sir," which even she could barely hear. Beth gave out a small sigh when no points were taken from her house for her disturbing. She quickly mulled over the words the Caretaker just said to her. True, they were doing their job but they didn't have to be so arrogant and mean about it. But she decided there was no point of worrying about this. She had to realize there were all kinds of people working as Aurors, better or worse. And even if all of the Aurors were bad, which was unlikely, she would take it as her goal to try hard and make a difference. With this newfound determination, Beth started listening to Professor's description of the Goblin Rebelion. When he finished talking, she dutifully copied all the information from the blackboard. 'There will be no more mistakes for you today, Beth Snape.'

Alyssa strolled into the classroom with mixed emotions. She was happy because this class was the one she had with the Hufflepuffs. Normally, it wouldnt make a difference what house she was with, but today, she shared this class with the one that could possibly ask her to the Yule Ball. Sanctimus. The second reason was because she felt really, REALLY sick. Alyssa wasn't sure if it was caused by something she ate at lunch. But then again she only had a small bowl of soup. Ughh. Maybe I should go to the Hospital Wing. Alyssa grumbled to herself. The third reason for her mixed emotions was that Alyssa HATED this class. Who cares about the history of an old git that live a million and one years ago? or how the goblins rebelled? Who cares? Not her, not ever, not even in a billion years.

Alyssa found a seat in the far back corner and sat down, crossing her arms. The look she wore on her face just screamed leave me alone!

Alyssa looked up at the board. I am not copying that stuff down she thought. So, instead, she just sat there and put her head down. She was sick, happy, AND moody. What joy

Stanley walked through the aisles of seats to observe the students in their notetaking, when he saw a Gryffindor girl make her way into the classroom and sit in the corner. He walked over to her and stood directly in front of her. "Ms. Johnson," he said sternly. Today was not a good day to upset Stanley Peckle. "Next time you come late to this or any class, I expect it will be detention. Five points from Gryffindor. Now, if you would please copy down the notes on the blackboard." He looked at the rest of the students and smiled with that smile that only a friendly old man could pull off. "Please back to work, everyone," he said cheerily. Stanley could be strict if he wanted to, but he was normally a very nice person.

He strolled up and down the aisles, watching for any rule breaking that may occur. "Please do remember, children, that I do have the authority to assign detentions. I may be the Hogwarts Caretaker, but that does not mean that you should be late to any class that I happen to be teaching. You wouldn't be late if dear Professor Aviza were teaching, would you? Then again, half of you probably would. In any case, should I see any rule breaking, it will be ten points from your House next time, and a detention as well. It is not my pleasure to deduct points from any House, I love them all, but should consequences be necessary, I will resort to it. Continue with your work, and I hope that none of you upset me again today." Class had barely started, and it was already that a student had come in late, and that another was speaking of something completely unrelated to History of Magic. For now, at least.

Jack sat in his seat towards the center of the class, sighing absent mindedly as he wrote the note about Goblins. His hand began to cramp with each additional line, but Jack fired through the lines of the note, not really paying much attention to what the "professor" was saying.

Finally catching up as far as Peckle had written, Jack dropped his quill in satisfaction and massaged the knots out of his right hand.

Please. Are you kidding me?! Im not that freaking late. Bite me, I dare you. Alyssa thought as the Professor stood over her desk. "Okay. I'm sorry. I'll get started on those notes" she said in a completely fake, but believable, happy tone. Her sick feeling had gotten worse and worse. She got out a piece of parchment and began jotting down her notes, as slow as she could possibly go. Whatever. she thought as she wrote

Beth gave Alyssa a sympathizing look. Most of the teachers didn't mind that much but it certainly didn't pay off to come late for Peckle's lessons. Suddenly she saw the door open and another Gryffindor entered. She glanced at her Professor and it seemed he didn't know about the latecomer yet. Without thinking, her hand shot up. 'What are you doing!?' she shouted at herself mentally as she tried desperately to think of any, at least a little reasonable, question. Beth mustered her courage as she finally asked, "Uh, Professor. There surely were crimes committed by wizards as well, probably even more than by goblins. Isn't it a little unfair that we learn all about the goblins as if they were bad? Maybe if they were treated more kindly by wizards they would be happier and less rebellious?"

She knew it wasn't the cleverest question she could ask but it could have been worse. Especially given the fact that she'd never met a goblin in her life. From the corner of her eye she saw Jack was already sitting and with any luck Professor Peckle wouldn't notice. One thing she didn't know though. Why did she risk her neck for someone she barely knew? That was tremendously stupid! In the worst case she could end up losing points for her house or even get a detention. The though unnerved her greatly. Didn't she just tell herself there would be no more mistakes? Sometimes she could get so annoyed with herself.
