Read Today's Daily Prophet: Knights of Walpurgis attack Hogwarts; Belleford steps down as Hogwarts closes until further notice
Welcome to Hogwarts Interactive Role Play, one of the net's best in Harry Potter and Hogwarts role plays. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Here at Hogwarts our students are currently in their Seventh Year. Last year, the war against the Knights crescendoed into a direct attack against the school. Disappearances are still reported (or not) daily, and the Dark Lord and his Knights of Walpurgis have succeeded in spreading their message of "do as thou will" far and wide across the globe. Magical Law Enforcement, which is now the only authority in the wizarding world under Martial Law, has responded by tightening security, controlling the media, and strictly enforcing curfews and other laws. Their control is damaging to the people's freedom, and their hierarchy is a suspicious lot. It is clear that some members of the MLE like their new found power a bit too much, others see it necessary, but all are in serious danger of being consumed by it. But with the picture of just what Azariah Amaranth is after becoming ever clearer, and a third player in the form of a group called SAVIOR entering the scene, what will the MLE do next to ensure that they've got the situation under control?

The Elementium, the Higher Plane that had once been hidden just beyond the veil in the Department of Mysteries, and the Deathly Hallows. The pieces of the puzzle have been identified, but what picture do they make?

Today is Day 1 of Year Seven. Students have had time to recover from the Knight's attack, and are beginning to reluctantly return to the walls of Hogwarts. The safety of the school has been diminished, bringing up the question everyone must ask. Are you safe anywhere these days? It's up to each individual to decide their fate, where will you decide to go?

Mitchell sighed as he heard Bannishtar talk. He wasn't really paying attention -or properly listening, the words just passed him by. Or as many could say: 'in one ear and out the other'. Chuckling at the thought, Mitch looked up at the teacher, and actually started writing down some notes - small as they were, it was an improvement.

As he flicked through his textbook, Mitchell struggled to maintain concentration, his mind wasn't really on the lesson, but he had to remain focused if he was going to have any chance of passing the Divination OWL. This was mainly what motivated him to have at least some remote interest.

But what was that? Mitch frowned and stared at the professor. Had he heard incorrectly? They were meant to lie, and cheat to pass? That was... interesting. Different, but definitely interesting.

After a while, Mitch let his book, parchment and quill fall onto the floor, as he looked up at the other students who'd started the task they'd been set. Many of them were already in pairs, but this didn't bother him that much. Mitch figured that if someone wanted to be with him, they'd come soon enough.

Mitch slowly got to his feet and walked to the box holding the crystal balls. He picked one out, and tossed it between his hands as he made his way back to the tree stump where he'd been sitting.

Just like most classes, Iris's mind began to stray from the current subject. She looked at Banni, but all she heard was "blah blah blah". Nothing he said made any sense, but that may have been because he sounded like an adult in the Charlie Brown series.

"You'll all be learning how to fake it convincingly, just like a real fortune teller. So, pair up into groups and grab a crystal ball from the box over here beside me and all of you work on your acting skills." Partners? That caught Iris's attention. Who would be her partner? She wasn't in the mood to be with one of the annoyingly happy Hufflepuffs, or a snobby Slytherin.

Iris stood up and scanned the room, looking at those without partners, deciding if they were good enough for her. Finally her eyes reached a Slytherin boy, and an attractive one at that. Iris wasn't into the dating scene, but hey, good looks didn't hurt.

"Alright serpiente" Iris said as she approached Mitchell, her mind still in Spain, "You seem worthy of my time, I'll be your partner. I'd rather not pair up with one of those babbling hufflepuff idiots"

There were only few Hufflepuffs Iris could stand, Kiki being one of the few. Sitting next to Mitchell, she was glad he had already gotten a crystal ball; Iris didn't want to have to get up again.

"I'm not in the mood for any crap so let's just fake this through and be done."
Iris told him with a slight smile. It was amusing to her how a teacher would purposely tell the class to fake it, she decided maybe she'll show up on time next divination class.

On a mood ring? He thought nervously to himself. A mood ring was one of those stupid muggle contraptions they wore and it told them their feelings at the time. She has to be joking... He gave a small bark of laughter and smiled reassuringly.

"I'm sure you'll meet someone in no time." He finished somewhat lamely. An awkward pause ensued. Shifting uncomfortably in his seat. Brush it off, you've got work to do.

"Do you mind if I have a go?" Isaac asked in an attempt to break the silence that he cast over the pair. Not waiting for a response he calmly reached out and picked up the crystal ball lightly from Alexa's outstretched hand.

Showtime.. Trying to clear his mind, but it was proving more difficult then he figured. Bannishtar had told them the steps to achieve meditation. Isaac straightened and closed his eyes momentarily, A red seven. A blue six. Or wait, was it yellow? He couldn't remember. Fairly sure he felt a trickle of sweat drip down his brow, he looked at the blank crystal ball wherein smoked swirled about endlessly. Guess I'll make it up then. Staring hard at the ball while looking at virtually nothing for a moment. Then clearing his throat, he thought of the first stupid thing that came to his mind. "The feast. I see the feast. Though only the teachers are there." He added as an afterthought.

Far too specific. Be more vague. He told himself while frowning. "I also see a broom with no rider, and a pair of hummingbirds together." Looking up at Alexa, he half expected her to burst out laughing.

"Of course I think she'll show up," said Flavia, "And anyway, Nikolai and I are going as friends. I don't like Divination, either, but then acting is completely different." She made a wild attempt to get herself into a so-called trance, but gave up, not able to get past the orange 6.

"Well, I see my reflection," said Flavia unhelpfully, "No, wait," she said, as the ball glowed red, and a fire appeared. "A fire. Maybe we should burn the school down?" She put down the crystal ball.

"Your turn," she said with a grin to Edward, passing him the ball.

"Hmm," Dave said, smirking at Ariana. It was surprising that such a sweet girl could have been hidden within the ranks of Precious' army of plastic clones. "How is it that you came to be a part of Precious' clique anyway?" he asked. "You don't seem to be... the type... who would normally be seen in her company. But then again, a lot of girls pretend to be mean just to be friends with her because they think she's popular or whatever, but really, any guy without a brain isn't attracted to her attitude. Don't ask me why I was with her," Dave laughed, shrugging.

Aria smiled as Dave haphazardly complimented her. She was certaintly looking forward to Dinner. She held his hand more firmly, squeezing it slightly. "I'm not sure to be honest. I just saw the oppurtunity and took it, it was that or end up as one of the Slytherin outcasts. I was...afraid almost I guess. So you're glad you're not with Precious now?" Aria tilted her head slightly. This was a risky subject, talking about Precious, so soon after the break-up. She didn't want to ruin her own chances after all.

Mitchell looked up as a girl sat down beside him. He scrutinized her, narrowing his eyes slightly. Mitch was surprised, yet not offended. His eyes searched her face, and everything else. After he'd looked her up and down, well, it was fairly obvious what house the girl was in. And judging from that, Mitch was astounded that she'd approached him at all.

Once he'd listened to Iris, Mitchell quickly gathered that she wasn't the usual Hufflepuff... something which was working in her favour, considering the unexpected move she'd made in even coming over to talk to him. He gave a small smile, and waited a little before talking. Mitchell had to figure what way he was going to go; he could blow up and walk off to pair with... someone else. Or, he could go with the flow and see what happened.

He chose the latter. "I may be worthy of your time, but lets see if you are worthy of mine," he said fairly quietly. "Go on then, fake it." He passed the ball over to Iris and looked at her with slightly raised eyebrows. Mitchell was testing, curious to see her reactions, and whether he'd made the right choice in staying where he was.

It was risky, for one of Mitch's kind to be associating with a 'Puff... but there is always an exception to every rule.

Rodrigo shrugged his shoulders a little. "Uh, um, err, ah," Rod mumbled to himself, thinking of what Beth's could have meant, whilst still trying to decipher his own. He drew a deep breath and smiled at his friend. "Maybe..." he muttered.

"Well it's coming up to christmas, so maybe you'll get a present then, and that's what that bit means. Ooh! Or maybe you will get a specific present via owl at christmas, or your birthday or something..." he said, drawing on lots of random ideas. "And it will be from a man? Someone close to you?" It was pretty vague, but Rod guessed that was what it was supposed to be like. Seeing how human divination was supposed to be so bad in comparison to centaur divination...

"Or something like that?" Rod laughed. "I don't know, but if you're meant to fake this, then I guess you could make up any story and just make sure you fit in the symbolypictureythings,"

"The feast? huh thats weird. Let me try again. Maybe i didn't wait long enough for the images to appear." She took the crystal ball from Isaac's hands. She held it up and thought, red 7,orange 6, yellow 5, green 4, blue 3, purple 2, violet 1. The ball turned yellow again. She was ready to give up on this but then, strangely, an image began to form in the ball. "Well, now I see an owl, the Hufflepuff house crest, and a wand. Now what the heck does that mean? It makes no sense." Whitney said with a puzzled look on her face. "What about you? Do you get it?"

"Yeah, I can certainly sympathize with you there," Dave said earnestly, knowing exactly what Ariana was referring to; if you weren't a part of the main Slytherin group, you were pretty much a no one. Being an outcast in Slytherin house would almost be worse than being in any of the other houses, regardless of social standing, simply because the Slytherins rarely got on with anyone but themselves. Dave had some solid friendships with a few non-Slytherins, specifically with Addie and the rest of the defense club, but he had been neglecting them since Precious brought him into the Slytherin fold.

"And yeah, the whole Precious thing, well, I'm glad it's history," Dave answered, nodding his head. "As bad as it sounds, I kind of knew it wasn't going to go very far; I guess I was just looking for a way to cement myself into the more popular group more, that is, if you can even consider her popular."

Aria nodded as Dave spoke, they both seemed to share similar opinions about the Slytherin power play, not truly wanting to play along with it, but out of fear of rejection they found themselves immersed in it. "Well she certaintly seems to have Slytherin almost entirely under her thumb, although not out of love or respect I might add. I know what you mean though, it's either be popular in Slytherin or be a complete outcast, even the other houses don't want to know a bottom-feeder Slythie." Aria didn't in truth know many students from the other houses, her pretense as a Slytherin Bitch may have had something to do with that. Aria decided to take a leap of faith, it had worked out so far. "I guess...another reason I got close to Precious was....you."

Dave couldn't help but feel a little skeptical. Was Ariana for real? Someone of her beauty, and with a personality to boot, was actually interested in him. Although Precious at least had some attraction towards Dave, he always felt like he had to pull the moves on her or act a certain way in order to get anything out of her, but Ariana seemed very different; she seemed to be genuinely attracted to Dave, at least physically, but the way she spoke seemed sincere enough. She did seem to be very forward, but who was Dave to complain?

"Is that so?" Dave asked with a grin. He could almost feel his face getting hot, but he took a deep breath and calmed himself down. "And what exactly were you looking for? Wanting to steal some of the queen's honey?" he teased her with a smile.

Ariana blushed slightly as Dave grinned at her, but felt taken aback when he suggested that she was only interested in him because of his involvement with Precious. Had Dave only been joking, or did he really think of her like that? Sure, Aria had hung out with Precious, but she had already made her reasons for doing so very clear, they weren't out of some kind of worship of Precious, but desperation. Calm down Aria she thought. Dave is probably joking, after all, he seems like a nice guy.
Aria smiled back at Dave, deciding to give him the benefit of the doubt. "No...it's not like that. Precious talked a lot about you, sometimes complaining, sometimes boasting, but through it all I got the impression that you were....a decent guy. I didn't even know Slytherin guys could be like that." Aria looked at him hopefully "I'd like...to get to know you better Dave to make sure I'm right but so far....you seem like a really sweet guy." Aria squeezed his hand again, looking down at it, then back up at him. Hoping.

If he hadn't just met this girl (and if he wasn't in the middle of a class), Dave felt like he would have jumped over the table and kissed Ariana right then and there. It was almost disconcerting to hear something so genuinely honest from a girl in Slytherin house, especially one with looks like Ariana's. He instead chose to remain calm and simply enjoy the sensation of her hand against his.

"I know, I know," Dave said, sensing that the girl may have taken him seriously. "I was only kidding when I said that. If anyone knows how Precious can be and what she tends to talk about, it's most likely me," he declared, fully aware of Precious' behavioural patterns. "What did she complain about, anyway? Probably something totally ridiculous like me not giving her enough attention or something like that, right?"

Kiki nodded. Maybe she'd have something sweet at lunch.

"Sounds about right. Your turn," she said, gently depositing the crystal ball in June's hands, and steadied the textbook on her lap.

Yellow really was the best color this Earth had to offer.

June giggled, leaning forward, "And, if you want it to go true, you just eat something with honey on it. Then you're a true seer!" Clapping her hands, she looked down at the crystal ball. She closed her eyes, "Uh..." June tried to remember how she was supposed to put herself in a trance, "Red. Red Four! And then a green five! Oh, wait, I'm supposed to countdown, right? Green two, then. And then a yellow one!" She opened her eyes again, figuring out that being in a trance wasn't so different. With a smile, she lifted up the crystal ball, and looked into it.

"M'kay. I can see a snowflake-" June tried to figure out what it meant, "- Snowflakes are unique, so perhaps it means I'll meet someone unique? And now its a... Horse. Horses are big and pretty, but big. That must mean that the speshul snowflake is pretty and bigheaded. And urm, now I see a bug. They're gross and scary. I think perhaps that means the person isn't as nice at it seems." June put it down and nodded, "It sems logical, like something that can happen. Right?"

Edward took the ball from Flavia's hands, looked at it doubtfully and started thinking about the colorful numbers Bannishtar read about. He knew he probably got them wrong but didn't care enough to check. Much to his surprise a picture indeed appeared in the crystal ball. "I can see," started Edward with his brows furrowed, "Hogwarts? Great, that's helpful." The image changed soon and showed, "socks..." "Well, that was interesting," said Edward sarcastically, "but since we're supposed to act, if I omit burning down the school as you suggested, I should probably say something like: I'll go home for Christmas and, undoubtedly, get another pair of socks, then we'll all return back to Hogwarts." Edward was feeling ridiculous with the ball so he put it on the ground and looked at Flavia. "But since I don't want to attend NEWT Divination I don't have to bother." If he wasn't taught otherwise Edward wouldn't care to hide how bored he was in that class.

"You are really good!" smiled Beth, "I'm sure you will have no problem with passing Divination." She scribbled down some notes concerning the pictures she saw and some of Rodrigo's ideas. Beth was curious whether some of it would happen in future; it wasn't too unlikely after all. "You could also say something like you're going to read book about ocean," she looked back at Rod. "Moby Dick maybe," she grinned.

Aria breathed a mental sigh of relief as Dave told her he had only been joking. She had assumed he was, but it was always nice to make sure. Aria sat slightly closer to him, resting her free arm on the table. If Precious was to walk in, they'd have to be lightning quick to get out of an otherwise fatal situation. "Exactly. I wouldn't take it seriously at all to be honest. Even when you were being the perfect boyfriend, she'd somehow come up with some petty detail to complain about.....Precious couldn't appreciate what she had." Even with all of the glamour surrounding her, Aria had only really envied one part of Precious's life. Dave. Perhaps not Dave himself, as she didn't really know him at that time, but what he stood for. He was a boy that was not only perfect in his personality and appearance, but also in the devotion and care that he showed towards his girlfriend. If Aria ever had the chance.....well, she certaintly wouldn't let it pass by.

After surveying his students for a while (really, some of the things these human children were coming up with were quite amusing) the centaur clapped his hands, hoping to get his students' attention.

"Attention please, you may all stop now," he said, "Excellent. I do not think any of you will have trouble passing your practical exams."

The centaur picked up the large, leather bound copy of Unfogging the Future. Opening the book and turning the pages, he found what he was looking for.

"Now...I am afraid you'll have a little bit of out-of-class reading to do. There are a number of subjects we won't have time to cover here, and, in the case of haruspicina--that is, the disecting of animal organs for the purpose of fortune-telling--I'd rather we didn't have a practical demonstration here in class."

The centaur wore an expression of disgust as he flipped through the book. Honestly, for all Bannishtar REALLY cared, the fortune-tellers could have their self-absorbed fantasy powers, but he did they have to sacrifice lives needlessly for their foolish pursuits? That, the centaur could not condone.

"Of course," said Banni flatly, "What you do with your own time is your business."

Yes, Bannishtar just made a joke, even if the thought of any of his students doing that to an animal they weren't even going to eat was repulsive to him.

"Your reading list will be posted shortly. I want all my fifth years to see it, so be sure to check on the board outside my room."

"Now," said Banni, "As for the remainder of our class, I'm going to be passing out..."

The centaur rummaged through a second box beside the one that contained crystal balls and removed from it a deck of cards.

"Tarrot cards," said the centaur, "Now, there is a little more method to this madness than Crystallomancy. Does anyone want to tell me what any of these cards mean? All at once, raise your hands and you may speak. If you know the name and meaning of a card, show us the card from the decks I am passing out and explain," he said as he passed out the decks of cards.
