| Welcome to Hogwarts Interactive Role Play, one of the net's best in Harry Potter and Hogwarts role plays. We hope you enjoy your visit. Here at Hogwarts our students are currently in their Seventh Year. Last year, the war against the Knights crescendoed into a direct attack against the school. Disappearances are still reported (or not) daily, and the Dark Lord and his Knights of Walpurgis have succeeded in spreading their message of "do as thou will" far and wide across the globe. Magical Law Enforcement, which is now the only authority in the wizarding world under Martial Law, has responded by tightening security, controlling the media, and strictly enforcing curfews and other laws. Their control is damaging to the people's freedom, and their hierarchy is a suspicious lot. It is clear that some members of the MLE like their new found power a bit too much, others see it necessary, but all are in serious danger of being consumed by it. But with the picture of just what Azariah Amaranth is after becoming ever clearer, and a third player in the form of a group called SAVIOR entering the scene, what will the MLE do next to ensure that they've got the situation under control? The Elementium, the Higher Plane that had once been hidden just beyond the veil in the Department of Mysteries, and the Deathly Hallows. The pieces of the puzzle have been identified, but what picture do they make? Today is Day 1 of Year Seven. Students have had time to recover from the Knight's attack, and are beginning to reluctantly return to the walls of Hogwarts. The safety of the school has been diminished, bringing up the question everyone must ask. Are you safe anywhere these days? It's up to each individual to decide their fate, where will you decide to go? You're currently viewing our forum as a guest. Kiki, who stood in between Beth and Misty, was practicing the wand movements. The hardest thing about learning incantations, was her accent. It tended to chop up the latin words into incoherency--which failed whatever spell or incantation she wanted to complete. "A...je...ment..ee..." she said slowly. "A..gooo....guuua....mente.." "A...guaa...mennti.." "Aguamenti!" she said, swishing her wand around, Kiki aimed at the ground, but the force of the water hitting the earth splashed back up and hit her directly in the face. She wiped some of the wet hair out of her eyes, and spat some water out that she'd swallowed. Where was Ian when you needed him? |

"I just heard a load of people calling you that, so I guessed it was your name, thats all. I think you did really well with the Aguamenti charm - you got a bit more flow in your water than I did." Bex said, grinning. And then she remembered Jay's other questions. The Ball. She had noone to go with. "I don't actually have a date for the Ball, I was just going to go by myself, and maybe with some mates. Noones asked me so far, and thats understandable. I hardly ever get picked for teams, and it looks like thats gone the same way for guys choosing dates. I just guess they want to go for amazingly beautiful, confident, bubbly girls who look good in dresses." Bex looked down, avoiding eye contact as she plunged into the deep depths of her shyness. |

Kane stepped onto the Grounds, his robe billowing. It was a fair bit windy as he approached the large mass that was the Charms class. He nodded to the professor, and took his wand form its holster. They were studying the Aguamenti Charm today. Kane had chosen not to take his Standard Book of Spells, Grade Five to class today, for fear that the book would be damaged in today's efforts. Kane directed his eyes towards the diagram that Sister Evelyn Saint-Claire (I MEMORIZED THE NAME, HAHA!) had drawn and practiced the pronunciation and the wand movement, separately of course, as to not cast some horrible spell that would doom the class. Finally, after what seemed like hours of practicing, Kane finally worked up the courage to cast the spell. He waved his wand raucously, yelling, "Aguamenti!" The spell didn't work. What's your problem, Kane? You usually get spells the first time! |

"Oh, I'm well rested enough, Hank, I just wish I would have gotten up earlier." Harold looked at Avery amusedly,"I see." "And I am Harry by the way," he grinned, "Harold Avery, Avery." He extended his hand towards the girl. He had never talked to her before but had seen her a few times in class so he thought she knew him. Harold had a good memory so it wasn't a problem for him to remember other students' name. Harold watched as other students tried to cast the spell, which usually ended with either them or people around them being wet. He had also decided to pronounce the incantation correctly first before casting. When he managed this, it was time for the hardest part. He raised his wand in a direction where there were no people to drench and said the incantation. Nothing happened. "Aguamenti!" he tried again without any result. Maybe if he concentrated on the water itself and imagined it he'd have better luck. He relaxed, thought about water springing from his wand and pronounced, "Aguamenti!" This time a few drops of water came from his wand. Harold groaned, he'd have to rehearse this spell all night again before he fully succeeds. No matter how intelligent he was, the practical part of magic had always been problematic for him. It probably had to do something with him being muggleborn, he didn't have any other explanation. He also overheard a conversation of Bex and Jay and was surprised Bex hadn't found a date yet. Maybe he should ask her if nobody else does, as a friend of course. After all, Harold didn't think the girl he was interested in would agree to go with him. |

"Very good. Now, the wand movement. Its easy enough. It's basically the outline of a raindrop. I've drawn an example here on the board. Please practise without saying the incantation if you're having difficulty - that's usually where errors occur. Sister Evelyn allowed the students to do as she asked. Walking away from the board, Sister Evelyn placed a large bucket further away from the group. "Well, we may as well practise it all together now. Over there I've placed a bucket. You will attempt to shoot water from your wand into the bucket. Don't be discouraged if you aren't successful on your first or even second try. Please form a line, I want everyone to try." She said and moved to where she wanted the front of the line to start. || OOC: I will be awarding house points for this section of the RP. 5 points will be awarded to the first two successful RP-shots of water into the bucket and 10 points to whoever shows the most creativity, good writing etc in their post. I will leave this open until I notice the time change. || |

Jay listened to Sister Evelyn-Claire carefully, then approached the bucket warily. Don't embarrass yourself Jay, please don't embarrass yourself... he chanted this over and over again in his mind, hoping that somehow saying it could stop him going wrong. He sighed, deciding that procrastinating was not the way forward. He twirled his wand in the teardrop shape drawn on the board, without saying the incantation, just to get an idea of how to do it. He took a deep breath and pointed his wand at the bucket. "A... Aguamenti!" he called, swishing his wand in a slightly wonky teardrop shape. A lone drop of water leapt out the end and, luckily, into the bucket. He stared at the end of his wand. Sighing, he pointed the wand at the bucket again and tried again. As before, not a lot of water came out of the end of his wand, although there were a couple more drops than before. He sighed, giving in. He was going to be practising very hard tonight. He turned away from the bucket and slunk over to Bex, sighing under his breath. "Well that didn't work very well. I really can't do this." Jay looked at the guy stood right next to Bex, who he sort of recognised. What was his name? Henry? Hank? He decided to try to talk to the guy anyway, hoping he wouldn't be too offended if he got his name wrong. "Hey, are you going to have a go... Hank?" he asked hopefully, "I think you'll probably do better than me. Good luck!" |

Katriane stepped up after Jay, because they had to form a line, and raised her wand. She practiced the wand movement only once before saying, "Aguamenti!" Only a sprinkle of water came forth from her wand, not even making it anywhere near the bucket. Katriane wiggled her arms like spaghetti, loosening them up. She had the wand movement right, it just felt a bit too stiff. Gathering the pluck to try it again, Kiki yelled, "Aguamenti!" issuing a more consistient flow of water, and some did land in the bucket, but the majority landed outside the bucket. Shrugging, she moved aside to let the next student try. |

Kane stepped up to the bucket after several more minutes of practicing. He nodded to Katriane, who had stepped aside in order to let him have a go. He felt confident in his spell casting, and was positive that he could get the charm to operate properly this time. That was, after all, what school was all about. Getting through your examinations. Going through the wand movement a few more times and practicing pronouncing the incantation correctly, Kane stared at the bucket. It was all about the spell caster's mindset. Water. Kane took a deep breath and pointed his wand at the bucket. Water. He made the teardrop movement with his wand, speaking the incantation, "Aguamenti!" Nothing. Not a single drop. Water. Kane tried several more times, each one resulting in a failure. He gripped his wand tighter, holding his breath. This time it would work. Water. He kept reminding himself of what it was he was trying to conjure. Charms were much harder than the others had let on. Kane was an adequate wizard, yes, but to get a spell right without any prior knowledge would be a feat unimaginable. Kane made the teardrop movement with his wand, spoke the incantation, all the while thinking that one word. Water. "Aguamenti!" he shouted, and a stream of water, not a jet, not an eruption, a small, steady stream of water shot from his wand and landed in the bucket, a resounding PING! being made through the grounds. He had done it! He had successfully conjured a steady stream of water! Kane made the movement once more with his wand and said the incantation aloud. Water. "Aguamenti!" Another stream of water, this time stronger than the first, flowed from his wand, and it looked like he had cast the spell remarkably. It hit the bucket, but didn't land inside. It instead had hit the side of the pail and sent water flying through the sky towards the nearest person. |

Bex inhaled deeply. "Aguamenti" She said as she flicked her wand in the tear-drop shape. No use at all. Yes, water did manage to spurt out of the tip of the wand, but it missed the bucket completely. "Aguamenti." This time the water got closer to the bucket, but just not close enough. And once more, she tried again, this time suceeding, and a sigh of relief was given when she saw the drop of water land into the bucket. Yes! She looked at Jay with a slight smile on her face, grinned and aimed a spurt of water to narrowly miss him. She turned to face the other guy stood next to her. "Lets see you give it a go, I bet you'll do better than me." |

Avery tried a few more times at getting the spell right without overflowing the end of her wand or getting a few droplets. The bucket was a welcomed challenge. If she couldn't get the spell right, how was she supposed to pour the water into the bucket? Still, it spiced things up a bit. She closed her eyes once more in concentration, outlining the teardrop in her mind's eye. She tried it once again, trying to picture a steady stream coming from the tip of her wand. She was jarred from her concentration by 'Hank' introducing himself as Harry. "Oh, of course you are," she said, waving a hand as if she'd known all along. She suppressed a snicker as another Ravenclaw called him Hank. "You're sure that's not your name?" she asked, flourishing her wand once more. She closed her eyes, concentrating on producing just the right amount of water. A flood or the waterfall she had been so proud of wasn't going to cut it to go that distance. Avery clutched her wand tighter. "Aguamenti!" Four miniscule droplets. Too little. She tightened her grip. She pictured more water coming from her wand. "Aguamenti!" she said, more stern this time. A small gush of water erupted from her wand. Not quite what she wanted, but she'd have to try to hit the bucket now. Other students were already well underway in their attempts. She glanced at the bucket. It seemed way to far away to actually get close to it. Sighing, she stuck one arm straight in front of her and the other behind her head in a sort of tae kwon do pose. She closed her eyes, mentally judging the distance between her wand arm and the bucket. She waved her wand in a large teardrop motion. "Aguamenti!" she cried without opening her eyes. She knew it hadn't worked. If the squishy feeling of her drowned shoes wasn't any hint to that. She'd produced another waterfall. One more try. One more try. She resumed her pose, ready to get the water in the bucket. Farther. Farther. I have to get the water to go farther, she told herself repeatedly. With another wave of her wand and a determined look on her face, she waved the teardrop motion once more. "AGUAMENTI!" A not quite satisfying waterfall formed an arc through the air above her and landed, with a satisfying smack of water against metal, into the bucket... ...followed closely behind by the clink of a ten inch willow wand. Avery blinked, arms still frozen in mid throw. "Er... oops," she said with a grin at her own silly determination to get it to go farther. Well, she had succeeded in that respect at least. Not actually at making the water spout the distance necessary. She ambled over to retrieve her wand from the bucket, still sporting an amused grin. Edited by Avery Griffith, Oct 6 2009, 08:16:39 PM.

After he was done observing others for the time being, Isaac stood in the back of the crowd quietly trying to master the charm before he was ready to step up in front of everyone else. He started muttering the incantation to himself. Aguamenti. A-gua-men-ti. Easy enough. Listening to his classmates shout out the spell made him smile slightly. Remembering back to Tortal's classes there was apparently deeper thought to magic then tone of voice. Bracing himself he said sternly, "Aguamenti." waving his wand stupidly about. Nothing happened, which quickly wiped the smirk off his face. With more stricken panic, he stared at the chalkboard and mimicked the action. Creating the water drop action with his wrist, he said a little more loudly, "Aguamenti." A slow stream of water shot forcefully out of the tip. Accidentally over accentuating the size of the water droplet, he aimed his wand a little too high. Which went over the group and down the path towards the forest. He smiled slightly, Not so bad after all. . . Isaac stepped up after Avery was done, he face grim, his feet planted firmly in the ground. He started moving his wrist to mime the board while being careful to aim the stream. With the pressure of failure riding high, Isaac exclaimed more forcefully then he first intended. "Aguamenti!" A small burst of water shot out and knocked the bucket from where it stood. He burst out laughing, while jogging to retrieve the bucket. He debated over whether he should have summoned the bucket back, but the last thing the class needed to see is more of his shoddy charms work. . . Edited by Isaac Wilshire, Oct 5 2009, 05:46:38 PM.

Allyson raced through the crowd of students in the court yards until she reached the clearing where the other students were already practising "sorry" she said as she approached the front. She got out her text book as she looked at the board "cool!" she said exitedly. Charms was her favorite class, especially this period too, because Ally liked the huffies. She placed her textbook on the ground and sat. She flipped the pages in her book until she found the spell "aguamenti" she read aloud. She read more and then reached into her bag. She brought out her wand and concentrated. "aquamenti!" but nothing happened "aquamenti" she said again, this time louder. A jet of water came out of her wand. "COOL!" she exclaimed. When everyone gathered and formed a line, Ally hung back to be at the end. But se ended up in the middle somehow. After Issac moved aside Ally stepped up nervously "dont mess this up ally, you can do this" she thought. She recited the spell in her mind."ok" "AQUAMENTI!"! Not even a drop... She concentrated and tried again. Still nothing."one more time" "AQUAMENTI!! She yelled this time. It worked. A stream of water flew from the tip of her wand. It was almost perfect. But once again her aim was off. None of the water made it into the bucket. Not even a drop... "DARN!!" Ally moved aside for the next person to step up and take a shot at this difficult task. Misty took out her book and read up on the spell. She repeated the spell several times before pulling out her wand and quietly doing the motions. After comfortable with that she said the incantation with the wand movements. "Aguamenti." A drop of water trickled down her wand. {"Go figures..."} She tried again and the flow became like a small trickle of water. Every time she did it the flow built up until it was like a small spout of water coming out of her wand. {"This could take a while..."}

Rodrigo was a little unsure if the spell he had just succeded in would work again. So, a jet of water wasn't exactly how aguamenti was meant to work - or so he presumed. And Rodrigo hadn't exactly mastered the control of the water flow much either, but at least he'd gotten something fairly quickly. Whether that would happen again so soon after a successful casting, well Rod was undecided. He looked around with wide eyes as various students were taking out their books to read up on the water spell again. He probably wouldn't join them in doing so for fear of getting his bag wet in the process, but still... Rod shrugged off the thought, and wandered over to join the line, he stepped behind a Ravenclaw who he thought was named Alison, although he wasn't really sure how it was spelled. Watching some of the other students to see if he could do better if he saw what part of their technique was going wrong, Rod was getting a little nervous. Of course he wasn't frightened of performing in front of everyone, he'd done that a thousand times before, but the task was becoming a little... daunting. Rodrigo chuckled under his breath as he saw Avery's wand flying into the bucket of water. It made him feel a little better though. Stepping up to have his shot at the bucket, Rodrigo aimed his wand where he thought would give a higher chance of scoring. Licking his lips and taking a gulp of air, Rodrigo readied himself for the task which his peers were making seem fairly easy. "Aguamenti!" Rodrigo said, with a slight tinge of Italian accent to his voice. Well there was no jet, stream, or flow of water that erupted from the end of his wand. There wasn't really anything, unless you counted a burst of water vapour. It reminded Rod of someone who'd taken a huge gulp of water, then slowly spat it out, making it spray over another person... With a look of disappointment, Rodrigo stepped to one side, and wandered back over to Misty. |

Kane was beginning to grow quite tiresome of the spell, as watching people repeat it over and over and with its resistance to being cast properly getting on his nerves. He sighed and stepped back, watching the others take their hand at the challenge, which, if you looked at it from a distance, didn't seem quite difficult. But looks can be deceiving. In the back of the class, he was practicing the spell, while all the others tried to shoot water into the bucket. "Aguamenti," he said, waving his wand recklessly. Neither liquid nor energy burst from his wand, but a watery vapor erupted from the tip and faded into thin air. It gave off the aroma of freshly cut grass, and Kane thought he smelled a bit of peppermint. Odd. Kane kept thinking that one word, Water. He made the teardrop motion with his wand several times, spoke the incantation, performed the two separately. "If I could get this spell..." Kane began, whispering to himself. If he could master this spell, it would do a lot of things. For one, he would never go thirsty. It would help him in his examinations, it would get him through school. This spell was bound to come up on the O.W.L.s, it was such an important charm. The conjuring of water was a spell that was far overlooked by the Wizarding World. A spell that was taken for granted. Never given the appreciation it deserved. But, nonetheless, it was a spell that actually made it into the Standard Book of Spells, Grade Five, and one that he needed to learn to pass this class. Kane was aiming for all Outstandings in his O.W.L.s, and he was sure he could at least scrape an Exceeds Expectations in Divination, as him actually doing the work far exceeded Bannishtar's expectations. He wanted to be a professor, after all, teaching Charms or Defense. He was always top at Charms, but he couldn't perform this one spell! Ollivander had told him that his wand was great for charmcasting, so why wasn't it doing its job? Could it have something to do with the caster, and not the wand? |

[[ooc: i've been away from my computer for a week so i'll just do the whole thing in the one post :)]] Claire had been looking forward to the Charms lesson, especially since it was on the Hogwarts grounds. She looked at the board and saw the basics of the Aguamenti Charm on the board. Sister Saint-Claire pointed out that the spell was outlined in the textbook, with Claire making a mental note to review the spell after the class. She smiled as they were told to practice pronunciation. "AH-gwa-MEN-tee" she said confidently, " Aguamenti... Aguamenti.... Aguamenti" until she was confident that her pronunciation of the incantation was correct. After listening to the further instructions that were given, Claire joined the growing line of students eager to try the spell. When she finally reached the front of the line, Claire took a deep breath and stepped forward. Claire loudly and confidently declared "Aguamenti!", pairing it with the raindrop wand movement. She waited for something to happen, her wand still pointed at the bucket. Just as she began to lower her wand to try again, a strong stream of water shot out of her wand and straight into her foot! "Ow!!!" she screamed! As the stream died down, Claire again raised her wand to try again, hoping to have the wand movement and incantation more in sync to the first try. "Aguamenti" declared Claire as she strongly performed the raindrop wand movement. Success! The wand began to shoot out water once more, this time without the delay and Claire immediately aimed the wand at the bucket, with every drop landing in the bucket. "Yes!" she cheered! |

Sanctimus dashed out the front door towards where the class was meeting for this lesson. he had fallen asleep in the common room and when he woke up he was already late for class so he grabbed his book bag and had ran all the way. As he ran he realized he wasn't going to be able to stop in time to prevent himself from running into the group of class mates but even so he tried and though he managed to stop it was not in the way he had intended for he tripped over his own feet and tumbled into his classmate Rodrigo and as they fell to the ground his book bag went flying towards another of his classmates, Kane of Ravenclaw.

Kane had been practicing the spell when he noticed Sanctimus running toward the class, admittedly very late. He had attempted to stop himself, so as to not run into any of the other students, but instead he had tripped over his own feet and tumbled into Rodrigo Caparelli, and his book bag had flown towards Kane. Acting on the spot, Kane rose his wand and began to say, "Reduct--!" but he had been hit by the bag of spellbooks before he could finish the spell. Stumbling backwards and clenching his forehead, Kane let out a gasp of pain. He had dropped his wand and tripped over a rock, and he was now on the floor, clutching his forehead, his closed eyes filled with red. Was he bleeding? No, no it wasn't that hard of a hit. But it had definitely hurt. Kane stood up and found his wand on the ground and picked it up. "Bloody hell..." he whispered to himself. "That hurt quite a bit." Looking down to find where he had fallen, Kane realized that part of his robe had been torn off by the rock. These are my good robes, too! he told himself. Kane knelt down and picked up the torn garment and held it to his robe with his right and, and with the left tapped the fragmented robe and whispered, "Reparo!" The two pieces instantly bonded together, and Kane gave a quick tug to make sure that they didn't fall apart entirely. Smiling, impressed with his handiwork, Kane picked up Sanctimus' bag and walked over to the Hufflepuff, after stowing his wand back in its holster. "That was a nasty fall there, Sanctimus," he said, grinning. "All right?" Edited by Kane Resultran, Oct 7 2009, 09:02:06 PM.

A nasty slam into his body whipped Rodrigo out of his thoughts. He didn't have a clue what was happening as he staggered back a few metres from the force that Sanctimus had hit him. He hadn't seen his Hufflepuff fellow crash into him until the last minute, and it hadn't yet clicked that unless he did something fast, they were both going to end up on the floor. Rodrigo started to fall down, but thrust his right hand down on the ground to the side in an attempt to steady himself. Rod's fingers clasped the grass, and squidged into some mud, where someone's aguamenti charm had hit the ground and gotten it soaking. Rod slowly stood up and shook his hair off his face. Pulling a disgruntled expression to the mud on his right hand, Rodrigo was a little stumped as to how he should clean it off. He certainly didn't want to get his robes dirtier, after all his back was still damp from the soaking that Beth had given him. "Aguamenti," Rodrigo muttered, figuring that he might aswell clean himself up whilst practicing the charm. A smile filled his face as a small stream of water cleared his hand from the dirt. Rodrigo was well on the way to cracking the spell, and a good job too, as it was going to be a useful one. He straightened and tightened his tie whilst walking a few paces over to Sanctimus and Kane. "You ought to be careful, Sanct!" Rodrigo said with mild sympathy. "Next time you could break your neck," Rod smiled. "You both okay?" Rodrigo asked Sanct and Kane, with an expression that showed a hint of concern. |

The line seemed to get longer and longer even though it was the same people getting back in line to try again.Allyson sat under a shady tree near the line to read up more thoroughly on the spell "ohhh. Thats what i did wrong. That is an obvious mistake ally. I cant believe you missed it!"she said to herself. Her wand movement looked like a circle, not a water droplet. She decided to test the pronunciation too, just in case. "AH-gwa-MEN-tee,""Aguamenti,""Aguamenti." Once she was confident enough to try again she drew her wand. "Here we go." 1...2...3... AGUAMENTI!" she declared confidently. Only a few droplets spouted from Ally's wand. Oh great. Here we go again! she sighed. One more time.She took a deep breath and held out her wand AGUAMENTI!This time a fast shower of water erupted from her wand, almost making her fall backwards because of the pressure. YES!! she said excitedly. And with that she went to join the others that were in line to try again. |
