| Welcome to Hogwarts Interactive Role Play, one of the net's best in Harry Potter and Hogwarts role plays. We hope you enjoy your visit. Here at Hogwarts our students are currently in their Seventh Year. Last year, the war against the Knights crescendoed into a direct attack against the school. Disappearances are still reported (or not) daily, and the Dark Lord and his Knights of Walpurgis have succeeded in spreading their message of "do as thou will" far and wide across the globe. Magical Law Enforcement, which is now the only authority in the wizarding world under Martial Law, has responded by tightening security, controlling the media, and strictly enforcing curfews and other laws. Their control is damaging to the people's freedom, and their hierarchy is a suspicious lot. It is clear that some members of the MLE like their new found power a bit too much, others see it necessary, but all are in serious danger of being consumed by it. But with the picture of just what Azariah Amaranth is after becoming ever clearer, and a third player in the form of a group called SAVIOR entering the scene, what will the MLE do next to ensure that they've got the situation under control? The Elementium, the Higher Plane that had once been hidden just beyond the veil in the Department of Mysteries, and the Deathly Hallows. The pieces of the puzzle have been identified, but what picture do they make? Today is Day 1 of Year Seven. Students have had time to recover from the Knight's attack, and are beginning to reluctantly return to the walls of Hogwarts. The safety of the school has been diminished, bringing up the question everyone must ask. Are you safe anywhere these days? It's up to each individual to decide their fate, where will you decide to go? You're currently viewing our forum as a guest. So you're either a new person or making a new character. After you've filled out your application, all that's left for you to do is to jump right into the role play, but what is the proper way to do it? Obviously the easiest way is to simply throw your character into the latest RP area and simply start introducing yourself, but there's one complication. As you've probably noticed, everyone in the RP is in the same year, so this can prove troublesome when introducing new characters. As of this posting, there are roughly 70-100 students per house. Obviously not all of them are active characters, but anyway. Hogwarts in the novels had about 10-20 per house per year, which would make up a total of around 600 students in all of Hogwarts, or possibly less. So what does this all mean? If you consider the amount of active characters per house in our role play (which I would ballpark at around 10-20, so pretty in-line with the books), it would be pretty difficult for a new character who has been at Hogwarts for five years to not know some people, and at the very least the people in their house and shared dormitory. The reason I make this point is because a lot of the new characters come into the role play and act like they've either never been to Hogwarts before, or that they never bothered to introduce themselves to anyone, but they've obviously been at the school long enough to be a sixth year. In the future, I think it would be a good idea for new characters to keep these things in mind when introducing themselves to the role play. Here are some questions to pose about your character: - How social are they? How many friends would you expect them to have by sixth year? Would they befriend anyone, or only people of certain blood or their own housemates? - Where are they from? Are you having them as an existing student who has been at Hogwarts since the beginning, or are they a student who has come from another school in another part of the world? Whatever you choose to do is ultimately up to you, but it gets kind of old when every new character shows up to the great hall and just introduces themselves to the first person they see, and then it goes no where, they get bored, and quit. My suggestion would be to make a thread for yourself in the Individual Character Plots Section (click me!) and establish some friends and a history before jumping right into the role play. At the very least, befriend an active poster and have them take you under their wing and have them introduce you to other people in character. One of the biggest reasons that (I believe) people quit early is because they find that it's too difficult to get into the inner circles of the role play, but it's not that difficult if you ask for some help, because no matter your character's personality, I guarantee that there's a group of characters in the role play that they would get along with. Overall, I would encourage more OOC discussion with multiple characters before jumping right into the role play so that the transition of fitting your character in is very smooth, so instead of being totally new to everyone, you can establish a history with a few people first so you can rely on them to RP with if no one else is available. |
