Welcome to Hogwarts Interactive Role Play, one of the net's best in Harry Potter and Hogwarts role plays. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Here at Hogwarts our students are currently in their Fifth Year. This year, Hogwarts has been chosen to host a legendary event, The Triwizard Tournament! However, these are dark times we live in, for the Dark Lord Azariah Amaranth has escaped the bonds which have kept him in Ministry custody, and has destroyed the Ministry in the plain sight of several muggles, effectively placing the Wizarding World under martial law and placing our very way of life in jeopardy. Strict curfews have been placed on all citizens, and now that school has started, no one--not students or staff--are allowed in or out of Hogwarts until further notice. So cancel any trips out you might have, because all students and staff must remain in, and everyone else must stay out. Now the Dark Lord is in preparation to topple the stability of both worlds and all races; to deal the final, shattering blow to the current world order.

Why all this madness; this destruction and anarchy? Just what is Amaranth's ultimate goal?

The first task has now ended. Christmas is here and we all know what that means: The Yule Ball will commence tonight. If your character is planning on attending and doesn't already have a date, be sure to snag one before all the good ones are gone!

Today (Day 5) is Christmas day, so there is no class. We will have morning festivities before moving to lunch and freetime, which will then lead us to the night of the ball.

Site Banners; how do i photoshooped?

I know that we have a lot of banners at the top of the page that randomly rotate when you refresh the page, but then I thought... would it hurt to have more? The answer, of course, is NO! I would therefore like to extend the opportunity for anyone with decent (good) Photoshop/whatever skills to make some more banners. All of the current ones are good, but I think it would be nice to see some house banners (Ravenclaw, Slytherin, etc.) that have updated characters on them (though that doesn't mean we're getting rid of the current ones!) Oh, and like, you know, maybe actually have me (Orlando Bloom) on them. Oh, and Jordanna's avatar too (just not with short hair lol oh God). But yeah, we want to include everyone, right? >_> So yeah, who wants to make some updated banners? I've chosen to make this a more public thing as opposed to posting it in the private admin forum because, not only do I not want to pressure our usual Photoshoppers into doing even moar fantastic (read: FANTASTIC) artwork for the site, but I'd like it to be known that everyone's work is appreciated and that all members are free to contribute. I do have to say, though, that these things go on the front page (and are the first thing visitors see since it's right at the top), so it can't suck/be messy. I don't expect to have my awesome pictures that I did in MS Paint to be in the banner rotations, so neither should anyone else. So if it doesn't live up to everyone's expectations, it won't be put up, but perhaps our more experienced shoopers can give some constructive criticisms. Banners must be 800 x 300 pixels. If you notice, the current banners are 780x272. Don't ask me why, but I think it's because our old site was stuck at 800 pixels wide, so the banners had to be shrunk slightly to accommodate for the borders and such. Therefore, do not use the current banners as a template for size. Lettering on banners should be easily legible from several feet away on any monitor. Please be conscious of the way the text's colour contrasts to the background picture; it should be very clearly legible. I personally have to squint to tell what the KOW banner says on it, so could the author maybe brighten the picture (or just the text) a bit? One more thing. Banners should say "Hogwarts Interactive Role Play" or maybe "HIRP" (exactly as written) somewhere on them to dissuade visitors from other sites from stealing them, though this is not mandatory. And yes, it does happen. On another note, could the original authors of the current banners link me to a 800x300 version of the banners we have up now? I resized all of the banners to 780x272 to coincide with the ones we had, but I'd like to bring them all up to the proper size so they line up with the bar at the top. If the one you have is like 800x299 or something like that, don't worry about it. If you don't have an original that is bigger, see if you can stretch it a bit without losing quality, and save them at the proper size from now on, and keep a copy of your work just incase.

Obviously, the bigger characters got priority for two reasons: most of them were created and owned by staff and administrators, and because they stand out more as staff and admins were the ones who made them. That being said, a good number of those characters that are on the current banners are hardly used, so they could be replaced with some others. Getting everyone on there though would be next to impossible. I think everyone who has multiple characters might have to settle for one or two at the most being on a banner, and obviously, those characters such as Ian, Tristan, Katriane, !Xabbu, Addie, Hellius, Emma, Bellatrix, and Julian should appear in any banner for their respective houses, as those characters are central to the site's plot. I definitely want to see more of the rest of our members on these things, but we may need to work it out so that most people get at least ONE of their characters on a banner. I'm hardly fussed. winks With that said, I'm absolutely rubbish at anything to do with computers, and that includes photoshop. Look forward to seeing whatever is come up with though.

I'd say someone give it a shot maybe and see how it turns out. Emma's banner for the professors turned out great. I especially like how it doesn't really have much of a background; the picture is pretty much just composed of faces. If it doesn't work out, I'd say maybe some group banners are in order? Like say, have a few groups of Slytherin characters in one banner, then a different group in another. I know this doesn't obviously work for every house, as not every house has clear divisions or "cliques" within them, but there are several things that can be done. Boys only, girls only, the "good" guys, the "bad" guys, different cliques, Julian and his hoes, etc. And besides, no one said they all had to be the same house, right? I think it would be neat to show some of the interhouse friendships and whatnot. With that said, however, regular house banners would also be fine, just thought I'd throw around some ideas.

Yeah, the way Em did the Professors' banner worked out well, but I'd hate to see every banner up there look just like that. And, also, I'm not even sure if its even 10 active users per house on average. I should also bring up the banners we currently have. See how the ones for the four houses match? And each has something on them that signifies "this is Slytherin" or "this is Gryffindor"? And how most of the banners have symbols that signify what they're about? I'd hate to loose that, so factor that into your decisions on how you're going to re-do them, anyone who decides to make a new one. Especially the part about the four house ones matching.
