Beth spent the beginning of the Fifth Year in a hospital, infected with Dragon Flu. When she came back, she had problems catching up in some subjects. During the Christmas Holidays she was surprised by her father's decision to teach her an old ability, which had been passed on in his family for generations. In the next semester, she was very busy trying to learn this flying ability, while also studying for OWLs, and dealing with personal problems. At the Second Task of Triwizard Tournament, her former best friend, Edward Fairfax, attacked a Gryffindor girl, Gweneve Primus, and stopped talking to Beth completely.

In the end, Beth succeeded in completing the first stage of her training, and passed all the OWL exams from subjects she needs to become an Auror. However, during the Third Task, she and Tinsley Carmicheal followed her father, Ian and several Aurors to the Shrieking Shack, where Severus caught Beth while they were dealing with Alphonse de Ponite du Lac, one of the Knights of Walpurgis.

The Summer Holidays was difficult for Beth, for she had to work daily around the house, completing all the assignments her father gave her. Severus stayed mad at her till the end of the holidays, when he reluctantly allowed her to continue her training. Completely physically and emotionally drained, Beth returned to Hogwarts for her Sixth Year.

During the course of this year, Beth continued to develop her Volatilis ability. One day she was discovered by Professor Charles Tortal, the only other person knowing of this so far, who offered to instruct her in this matter; a help that helped her greatly. The girl at last became accidentally acquainted with Defence Club and joined it as well as Kemp's Junior Auror's Academy. She was present when Squires attacked her friends on the Quidditch Pitch and took part in DC's operations during the battle at the end of the year. It was the experience shared with other members of this club that brought her closer to Dave, Alistair, Addie and Jess.

On the train ride back home, Beth's life as she knew it turned upside down. Found alone in the compartment, she was cursed by Jordanna and left to deal with the consequences. The ancient curse not only prevents her from ever revealing the identity of her attacker, it was also the cause of her complete loss of vision. Fortunately, she was found by Alistair and an Auror Caius Desmount and taken to a hospital in time.

By the start of the Seventh Year, Beth regained most of her sight, thanks to the work of the hospital staff and her father's rare potions. However, she remained colour-blind (only able to see shades of black and white) and it is unlikely she will see as she once had. It was Alistair York who was there to offer tremendous support during that time and consequently played a great role in her decision to return to Hogwarts. With no hope to even fulfilling her lifetime wish of becoming an Auror, and feeling incredibly self-conscious about the extraordinary silvery-gray colour her eyes acquired she boarded the train once more.

Being the only descendant of Severus Snape and coming to an age when the skill had been usually taught (it is slightly easier to learn it at younger age), Severus decided to reveal his secret and start the Volatilis lessons with Beth.
It will take a lot of time before she can call it flying, though.

Ability Specifics: It works by combining the magical energy with molecules around ones body. The magical energy basically concentrates the light particles (can be molecules of gases and it is possible to work with water but the effect is much lower because molecules of water are heavier and stronger energies work between them) in some place, which results in lifting the person up in the air. It can only work at small distances so the wizard can only lift himself or an object (even a person) he is touching (again the heavier the object the more difficult it is). It especially takes a long time before he can concentrate enough magical energy and particles to lift his whole body and it is difficult to maintain his concentration long enough not to hurt himself. A master of this skill can change directions while flying. The flying itself is faster than running but not as fast as flying a broom. However, when flying a broom he can help himself to move faster than he would without this skill. The person can survive falling from heights or levitate on the spot. It is much easier for him to coordinate all his moves and with a great concentration he can even use his wand and spells in the air.

Planned schedule:
1st stage: Christmas Holidays (5th Year) - Beth would be introduced to the theory and get an assignment to try to concentrate the energy and lift her hand a little. Which she should manage until summer holidays.
2nd stage: Summer Holidays - There would be more time for practice so she would do that every day. During her Sixth Year she could lift her whole body slightly (just a few inches).
3rd stage: During Christmas Holidays and during the rest of the school year Beth would work especially on 'falling'. She'd learn how to slow down her fall in order to continue with the more dangerous parts.
4th stage: From Summer to Christmas (7th Year) - Beth would now be able to lift or slow down heavier weights and begin to work on sideways movement. She would be very clumsy doing that.
5th stage: From Christmas holidays she could fly in both horizontal and vertical directions. And since then she wouldn't need Severus' guidance anymore. Her progress would depend on her how fast she would practice and improve.

As it happens, people leave or get inactive all the time. But as I cleared the list this time, I didn't want to get rid of a few names. Like the first person who RPed with me here. So, here's everyone who may no longer be Beth's friend/LI or just won't get mentioned in her posts, for various reasons. Let me know if you come back and would like do some rekindling! ^^
