Read Today's Daily Prophet: Knights of Walpurgis attack Hogwarts; Belleford steps down as Hogwarts closes until further notice
Welcome to Hogwarts Interactive Role Play, one of the net's best in Harry Potter and Hogwarts role plays. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Here at Hogwarts our students are currently in their Seventh Year. Last year, the war against the Knights crescendoed into a direct attack against the school. Disappearances are still reported (or not) daily, and the Dark Lord and his Knights of Walpurgis have succeeded in spreading their message of "do as thou will" far and wide across the globe. Magical Law Enforcement, which is now the only authority in the wizarding world under Martial Law, has responded by tightening security, controlling the media, and strictly enforcing curfews and other laws. Their control is damaging to the people's freedom, and their hierarchy is a suspicious lot. It is clear that some members of the MLE like their new found power a bit too much, others see it necessary, but all are in serious danger of being consumed by it. But with the picture of just what Azariah Amaranth is after becoming ever clearer, and a third player in the form of a group called SAVIOR entering the scene, what will the MLE do next to ensure that they've got the situation under control?

The Elementium, the Higher Plane that had once been hidden just beyond the veil in the Department of Mysteries, and the Deathly Hallows. The pieces of the puzzle have been identified, but what picture do they make?

Today is Day 1 of Year Seven. Students have had time to recover from the Knight's attack, and are beginning to reluctantly return to the walls of Hogwarts. The safety of the school has been diminished, bringing up the question everyone must ask. Are you safe anywhere these days? It's up to each individual to decide their fate, where will you decide to go?

Maverick half grinned as Constanta answered, but she had pressed herself onto him. She kissed him, and he kissed back. It was magnificent. What seemed like a thunderstorm was raging in the pit of his stomach, his heart was racing. The two had flirted before, yes, they had made sly comments to one another. But never had their relationship reached a physical level, as it just had. Maverick knew that this kiss was the first of many to come. He had wanted her back, he had gotten what he wanted, as usual.

It was perfect, nothing could go wrong. She was, in Maverick's opinion, the most beautiful girl at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. To some, it may seem that he was the so-called "rebound" for Constanta, as she and Ian were no longer a pair. But, to Maverick, he had simply gotten what he wanted, if it had taken longer than he suspected. He did not want to pull away, he would wait for her. This bliss seemed to never end. Every second felt like an hour, it seemed to last forever. It was what he wanted.

It was good, because Maverick had not felt something like this elation in so long. His life had been riddled with ridicule and snide remarks. He was not a very desirable person; he did not know why, but now he was back in the seat of power. He was with a Slytherin Prefect, and even if he did not influence her, he could easily gain influence around Hogwarts. This was not Maverick's reason for being with Constanta, however. She was a fierce girl, a strong girl, and she pulled Maverick towards her with her enticing personality.

After all, she was a very wanted girl. He had seen boys falling over her, falling for her, even if they did not know that they were doing it. If one had just seen a glimpse of her striking personality, one would know why Maverick wanted her. It was plain as day. The kiss still went on, and Maverick enjoyed every second of it.

Addie jumped somewhat as Violet bumped into her. "Ah! Don't worry about it Vi! I wasn't really paying attention either." The girl smiled gently, watching the fellow Gryffindor with what was slowly turning into concern. She certainly didn't look excited.

"How about we find somewhere to sit? And where'd you get the flag? I should probably get one for myself." The girl grinned faintly. She would ask Violet if something was wrong, if she didn't want to talk about it, Addie would leave it at that.

Veronica Rae
Fifth Year

Veronica had slowed down into a walk halfway through the distance and she was breathing heavily by the time she reached the bustling crowd of Hogwarts, Beauxbatons and Durmstrang students. Her eyes skimmed the seats for someone she knew and she spotted Avery's hair. Veronica felt that she shouldn't bother her all that much in one day but she wasn't sure if she knew anyone else in the vicinity. So Veronica hesitantly made her way towards her, smiling brightly at her and the other two boys. "Hey, Avery!" Was all that Veronica said as she gave her a smile with the slightest bit of unease in demeanor. "I'm Veronica." She said to the other two boys before taking a seat.

In the matter of seconds, June suddenly found that she had one scarf in her hands, and one was dangling above her. At first wondering where they came from, but once she realized, a laughing June exclaimed, "Are you two trying to drown me in scarfs?" Grinning from ear to ear, June took the scarf Rodrigo had given her, wrapping the black and yellow fabric around her thin neck. The fabric was softer than June's, and didn't have the same, tickling itch, and it was very heavy on her shoulders, but the warmth that was woven in between the threads most definably made up for it. It was nice, thought June, to hide behind, and snuggle into Rodrigo's scarf, it smelled of him, and allowed her to remember some of the fun, weird things she had Rodrigo had done, joked about and said.

"Thank you," muttered June, giving Beth a toothy smile and Rodrigo a awkward little hug. He was not as warm as Beth had been, she noticed, and with a worried voice she asked, "Are you sure you don't need it yourself?" She rubbed her palm against her knee, before seeing Jenny seem unnaturally uncomfortable. Was anything wrong with her sister? A more nasty side of June guessed it was because Jenny didn't have any real friends herself. And then when her sister told how June's friends where her friends, the cruel side added wordlessly, Since I cannot find anyone better myself, Ashamed of herself, she pinched herself in the arm.

Hiding her face in her scarf, June begged of one thing. That Jenny didn't have as bad intentions as June feared, June always feared the worst when it came to her sister, and if she did, that it would be directed at June, and not at her friends. She knew how to cope with it, or, actually not, but it would be easier to stay quiet and hidden if it was her who was the target. June didn't want to start yelling at her sister, and she knew she wouldn't be able to contain herself if. June pinched herself once more.

Emma glanced at her cousin hesitantly, but didn't feel too comfortable with having her around Abe. He was perfectly polite, of course, but Emma's cousin had a way around people that was insincere, manipulative, and very secretive. Even after these years, it made Emma feel anxious and defensive.

"Uhm, bonjour," replied Emma, shrugging. There wasn't much she could do. Titine was being tolerable, which was a rare occurrence, and Em wasn't going to jinx things.

"Titine, this is Abe. Abe.. yeah, my cousin," shrugged Em. She shot Abe a short, pleading sort of look. Hopefully Abe wouldn't get caught in Titine's web, as so often happened...

Violet smiled and rummaged through the patchwork bag hanging off her shoulder. It was a stained, a little old, and curiously lumpy, but Vi wasn't one to care. From a crowded pocket emerged another little flag, waving in the wind, and flashing colors. "I bought extras!" Vi grinned proudly, handing it to Addie. "Here, you can have it."

Scanning the crowd, Vi nodded quickly, still smiling. With someone by her side, it was easy to relax--and forget. "We should probably find some seats, now that you mention. It's filling up fast." Hesitantly, Vi pointed, by a few fellow fifth years. "How about over there?...Or...well, certainly not over there." Vi cocked her head towards Tinsley and Julian and felt her stomach lurch. Tinsley wasn't so bad, but Julian? He took the term "danger" to a whole other level.

Piotr raised an eyebrow as the boy-champion of Hogwarts came bounding down the lawn towards the forest edge. Once again, his doubts about his competitors' viability in this game were reinforced. At least Piotr tried his hardest to look the part, even if he had his own doubts. As the panting young man came to a stop beside Piotr and Mari, the Durmstrang champion gave him a quick look of contempt mixed with curiosity.

What had he been doing? What had he been thinking?

Piotr looked around. The crowd was beginning to appear a bit restless. Some seemed to be even preparing to leave. The long wait was making Piotr more and more anxious, and therefore he felt that if it did not begin soon, his nerves would get the better of him.

He spotted Ella in the crowd, sitting with what appeared to be a young man her age. Piotr was not the jealous type, and besides, he had no right to be at this point in their...whatever he and Ella had. But he found himself rather curious as to her relation to the boy, when he really shouldn't care at all. His full attention should be on the task at hand. He could just picture the lecture Dr. Ootenbucker would give him had he been aware of where Piotr's mind had just been.

He turned his attention back to the forest, just as the one-legged, battle scarred man came limping across the lawn over to the three champions.

Moody limped over to the three champions. The Nightshade boy had arrived. Finally. It didn't look good for Hogwarts that their champion had been so late. As if most hadn't already written him off for being young, he had to be a flake, too. Even Moody was having his doubts as to Nightshade's ability. Still, he'd be keeping an eye on the boy. The fact that he seemed totally unprepared for such a challenge only made his selection all the more suspicious.

"All right, Nightshade?" growled Moody.

"Okay, listen up you three," he said to the champions, "Now Professor Belleford will be addressing both you and the crowd in just a moment. But what I'm about to say is for your ears only. You'll be going into the forest, hear? We're not telling you exactly what it is you'll be doing there. But you'll have assistance. There's a lot of danger in that forest, so keep an eye out and remember: Constant vigilance. That's the key. And part of that is knowing who or what may try to hinder you, and who or what might help you along the road. Sometimes that ain't always so easy to figure out.

"Now if you feel you need help, you can send up red sparks with your wand--the incantation is periculum, in case you don't know--and someone will come and aid you. It won't disqualify you from the tournament, but it will lose you points from me and the other judges. Discretion is the key. Don't waste time dilly-dallying with things that don't have anything to do with the task at hand, once you figure out what that is. If you put yourself in a situation where you have to be rescued, you will lose points, so know when it is a good time to fight and when it is a good time to avoid fighting. All right?"

Most of that was for the Nightshade boy, if Moody was to be perfectly honest. He felt that Piotr and Mariane were probably aware of discretion in the face of danger, but from what Moody had been told, Nightshade was perhaps too brave for his own good. For instance: purposely meeting with a Dark wizard in a hostage situation--on the Dark wizard's terms no less--and with no proof that it wasn't a trap other than the words of some Slytherin boy with a history of deception, as the boy had done last year. Honestly. For such a brilliant mind, as Bannishtar had described him, he seemed to be such a fool sometimes, running here a half-hour late panting like a dog.

Perhaps it was just youth. That seemed to be his greatest handicap in this competition. Then again, it hadn't really started yet, had it?

Beth stopped playing with the leaf and watched Jenny thoroughly, as she spoke to her. She couldn't help herself but think there was something odd about that girl. And then Jenny asked her about her and said Beth was Jenny's friend. Beth's eyes widened slightly before she corrected her expression. 'A stranger, who probably hates my good friend is suddenly telling this to me? My hearing must be messed up!,' Beth thought as she opened her mouth to say something in her annoyance. But her mouth closed again soon as she realized she shouldn't be talking fiercely to her friend's sister, so she calmed herself quickly as well as she could and spoke calmly with the same kind of smile she received from Jenny:
"Ah, you know, I'm a simple girl who enjoys being with her friends," she smiled at June, "but as you probably know, your sister is a much better person than me." Beth turned back to Jenny and smiled sweetly, satisfied, that she wasn't too rude.

June again seemed a little insecure to Beth, was it because of her sister? Did June think Jenny would embarass her or steal her friends? And if it was the latter, did she really believe that Beth or, as she supposed, Rodrigo would let that happened? But who was Beth kidding? She had her times when she was unreasonably worried about what later turned out to be a ridiculous thought.

Beth looked around again and noticed Moody talking to the champions, distant enough to be out of the reach of sudents' prying ears. "Look! there's Moody talking with the champions," exclaimed she. Beth tried to concentrate hard but couldn't decipher a word he was saying. Giving up, she sighed, "do you think he's telling them about the task finally?"

Avery greeted Veronica with her signature grin. "Hey, the task is about to start!" she said, scooting over a bit towards Bex to leave room for Veronica. Seats were becoming rather limited lately. The task was about to start, after all.

She shivered as the wind picked up a bit, an icy gust of wind cutting through her jacket. She wrapped her arms around herself but still grinned. It was getting more and more intensely exciting and suspensful. "I hope the champions came prepared for the task and the weather," she said, grinning, her teeth chattering slightly.

Ian couldn't help but be a little mesmerized by the effect of the wind on Cole's hair. Closer would sound good right about now.

Close.

Wasn't that the reason he'd broken up with Constanta? Because she was close to him, and that put her in danger? Over the months since Alphonse had kidnapped her during the night of the full moon last year, Ian had kept his word and had not gotten involved with any other girl. Okay, there was that thing with Annabella on Halloween, but that was a one-night thing that hadn't even gone anywhere (though, admittedly, not through any lack of trying on Ian's part), but Ian had always harbored a fantasy of the two of them being back together if Ian was somehow able to take Alphonse out of the picture. If Alphonse didn't kill him first.

It was only when Tinsley was around that thoughts of Constanta were out of his mind. Even with Cole, even with this gorgeous blond standing in front of him, making her intentions perfectly clear, the memory of Ian and Constanta's split-up, and the reasons for it, were still fresh in his mind. Part of him wished he hadn't tried to be so noble. An even bigger part of him wanted to march over to wherever she was and ask to have her back.

In any event, it would be unfair to Constanta to get involved with Cole. And it would be unfair to Cole herself to put the blond in the same position 'Stanta was in last year.

And the thing with Annabella had left a bad taste in his mouth. He'd never even had a one-night stand, but his attempt, and the resulting guilt, that night had been enough for him to find the whole process revolting. He would not be willing to try that again.

And yet, there she was. This gorgeous blond that was standing there, awaiting the next round of their game of flirtatious verbal volley-ball.

"Hm...Well," he said, "I guess we could get...closer." He took a step forward. To be honest, he found the flirting game to be has revolting as the other thing.

"However. It will be up to you to decide how close." He took another step, not fully understanding what it was he planned to do. Obviously, the two of them had no other means of attraction at this point other than the fact that they were both attractive. The right thing to do would have probably been to talk and get to know each other. But Ian did not feel as though he'd wanted even that.

What Ian de Ponte du Lac wanted more than anything right now:
An escape.

Tristan knew that Moody was speaking more to him than the others. It made his heart sink even more knowing that most people had written him off before he'd even began the first task. What did they think happened to someone once they turned seventeen? Or even dixteen? That everyone at that age had some mass awakening which ultimately made them a better person. Hell! He was more mature and talented that half the idiots in the older years anyway! He was Tristan Nightshade, Ravenclaw Quidditch Captain, school Prefect, and the youngest competitor in the Triwizard Tournament for several hundred years! He'd show them all!

"We'll be fine, Professor." His comment was said with the same tone as the ex-Auror's, hoping the wizard got his meaning that he was mostly referring to himself. And yet the mention that they would be in the Forbidden FOrest sent a few shivers up his spine. He had been in there only a handful of times before and yet he had seen some truly horrible things within. But surely this time the FOrest had been swept for anything truly dangerous....right?

Tristan clenched his fist around his wand handle within his robes - he was going to win this tournament!

Now that everyone had finally arrived it was time to get things underway. He could sense the students getting restless and so it was only too soon that he introduced the first task. He flashed a smile at the Headmistress, the other two Headmasters, Moody and Jeremiah before stepping up the small podium they had assembled. A quick gesture with his wand amplified his voice so all could hear him.

"Attention everyone! Thank you for your patience! Welcome to the first task of the Triwizard Tournament!"

A cross between excited and thankful applause and cheers erupted from the grandstands. Nate gave a knowing laugh before holding up his hands to ask again for silence.

"The first task will see our three champions enter the Forbidden Forest where they will be given a series of clues by the centaurs living within. These clues will lead them to find three specific items which will be helpful in deciphering the next task. As you know all sorts of creatures live within the Forest and it will be a certainty that some of them won't take kindly to their home being disturbed. It will be a test to our Champions magical prowess, their courage, and their ability to think under pressure. Each champion will be given a score out of fifty by each judge, dependent on how well they undertake the task. Teachers will be patrolling the perimeter should any Champion get into trouble. I will now step aside for ex-Auror Alastor Moody who will be commentating for us out here."

He took a step down and offered the platform to Moody whose magical eye would be able to penetrate the trees and give everyone a running commentary of each Champions progress.

Tristan could tell the moment had arrived for this to begin. The moment that Moody took that stage he would be on his own, competing against these two foreigners who probably knew spells he'd never even heard of! He shook his head to calm himself, there was no point in thinking like that, not if he wanted any chance of succeeding.

He withdrew his wand and held it firmly by his side. Tristan let his eyes roam the faces staring down at him and felt comforted when he saw several he knew. Addie's kind face was filled with pride which lifted his stomach somewhat, Emma was seated with the other Ravenclaws and that guy she was kinda flirting with lately and was also looking at him with a big grin. Numerous others face he spotted, each making him feel even better about his situation.

Horacio's attention was dragged away from Mariane as he heard excited mutterings emitting from the assembled horde. Casting his eyes over the area in front of the Forest in an attempt to see the reason, his gaze landed upon the headmistress. Looked like the crone had finally decided to show up.

Yea. As you might be able to tell, Horacio wasn't a huge fan of hers. She was just too....odd, for his liking. He didn't understand it, so didn't like it.

He saw the ex-auror, Alastor Moody, then move forward to address the champions. Alastor was a man Horacio had to admit grudging respect to. His obvious battle scars made it difficult not to...and his grandfather had also often spoken highly of the man...well, the man's abilities anyway. Horacio knew when to take his grandfather's word for something.

The loud voice of Professor Aphelion then cast him out of his thoughts...and also, caused his ferret to start in shock, literally clawing up Horacio's arm and wrapping itself, tightly, around his throat, sharp claws digging in painfully. They hadn't gone without leaving any traces of damage either...his silver and green dress robes were slightly ripped at the side where the ferret had used it for an anchor to drag itself up Horacio's arm, and Horacio's neck and shoulder also now bore irritated red scratch marks. If it had been a person who was the culprit, Horacio would long since have his wand out by now. As it was, he merely stroked the ferret, attempting to calm it, soothe it. After several minutes of stroking, the ferret finally relaxed it's hold somewhat, but it continued to look around nervously, fidgety, obviously still extremely tense. Horacio sent a scathing glance down at the head of the Ravenclaw house....not that he could see it....nor, in all reality, was it even his fault. Didn't stop Horacio though.

The good news was that the First Task would now be getting underway. Horacio was ready to be thoroughly entertained.

It was finally beginning, and she didn't want all of her attention to be taken up by snogging. Besides, she suspected that it would be a longer game of cat-and-mouse yet, and she wasn't one to pass up a game.

"This should be interesting," she said softy, referring to more than the Task as it unfurled before them.

Rodrigo nodded, "I'm sure the task isn't far off!" he spoke mainly to Beth, but gave June a friendly poke in the side of her stomach too, looking at his best friend and smiling. Rodrigo couldn't wait for this thing to start, and right then, in that moment, it felt so close that Rodrigo could almost reach out and grasp it with his hands.

"Attention everyone! Thank you for your patience! Welcome to the first task of the Triwizard Tournament!"

He jumped as Professor Aphelion's voice was amplified across the stands. He quickly turned to face the front, with a quick wink to Beth and a, "Shh! Listen!" to no-one in particular. Rodrigo clapped along with everyone else when the teacher paused from his announcement.

Once it was finished, Rod leaned forward, with his elbows on his thighs and his hands clasped together - his chin resting on them. Rodrigo's eyes flickered to June sitting next to him, to the front and back again numerous times. "It sure sounds exciting, eh?! I just hope they are all fine by the end of it. But with the amount of precautions, you would really hope so." Rodrigo said happily. In truth, he was glad that the task was finally starting. His hands were starting to go numb in the cold, which didn't add to his excitement. Not in any way, shape or form. How he wished he'd brought gloves! But Rodrigo hadn't thought about that. Besides, Rod was sure now that his mind would be on other things. Things which were more important than the weather.

But the sooner the task started, the sooner it was over. Which meant to Rodrigo, that it was just a good thing that the first task was underway. He wanted nothing more than to crawl into the cozy comfort of the Hufflepuff Dungeon. But now that it had finally begun, well Rod didn't want it to end! And besides which, he was still as curious as ever to see the outcome of the whole tournament, how the Hogwarts champion would fare against the rivalling schools.

"Sonrous," he said, and his growling voice was projected over the entire crowd. Everyone quieted. The anticipation in the air was palpable. Even the champions seemed to be expecting Moody to do something. Were they waiting for his permission or something?

"Well?" he growled at the Champions, his voice amplified by the spell, "What are you three waiting for, ruddy Christmastime? Get going!"

Piotr wasted no time in complying with the ex-auror's command to "get going". He was the first on into the forest, and his extensive physical training at Durmstrang, as well as his farmer's life outside it, ensured that his strides were longer and quicker than either of his competitors. Whatever they were going to find, he would find it first.

Centaurs, yes? Piotr had never seen centaurs, and he had only a vague idea of what they looked like. Still, they couldn't be hard to miss. The idea of meeting with such creatures filled him with a mix of anticipation and trepidation. Who knew what kind of manner these centaurs found appropriate, or what tasks they might set for him.

He'd only ran a small number of paces when he realized that it was getting much darker in this forest. And it wasn't the setting of the sun. The forest canopy was so thick that it blocked out all light from above. It practically pitch-black already. And Piotr knew that Dark creatures often lurk in dark places.

"Lumos," said Piotr, and his wand tip ignited, casting a narrow beam of light at the brush directly in front of him, revealing a pair of glowing eyes in the darkness of the foliage.

Instantly, Piotr tensed. The eyes seemed to squint at the light, the creature to which the eyes belonged shrinking away. It gave a loud shriek. In its dark habitat, the light was an unpleasant invader to it. So, naturally, it attacked.

All Piotr was able to see as the creature lunged at him was a reddish brown and gray blur. Quickly sidestepping out of the way, Piotr flicked his wand at the creature in mid-lunge.

"Depulso!" The creature was flung back as if it were grabbed in mid air by and invisible hand and thrown. It hit the ground. However, it immediately scrambled to its feet. It was in that brief moment that Piotr had gotten a decent look at his assailant, and what he saw had shocked him.

It was quite possibly the ugliest thing Piotr had ever seen. It stood three feet tall and was vaguely humanoid. It flexed its thin gray limbs and oversized hands, the nails of which were long and yellowy, and looked quite sharp. Its teeth, jutting from its bearded mouth seemed much the same as its nails.

The creature shrieked once again and lunged at him a second time. This time, however, Piotr calmly flicked his wand. It seemed as though the creature had it an invisible wall as it stopped in mid air ricoched backwards. Piotr had heard a sickening CRACK as the creature's skull collided with his magical barrier. The creature did not move after it hit the grown. Piotr shined his light on it, and it did not react. It was dead.

Only now did he get a good look at what it was that had attacked him. It did indeed seem as though it were some kind of dwarf-like humanoid, it had to have been the most warped version of the human form Piotr had ever seen in a magical creature. Its skin was a sickly gray, and its arms and legs were thin and ropey. Its hands were oversized in relation to the rest of its body, as were the dirty, grimy nails ("claws" would have been an incorrect observation, as, save for their sheer size, its hands were certainly hands). It was clothed in a simply, filthy loin cloth and wore a long, gray beard that, thankfully, obscured most of its grimy, grotesque body. The face was the worst. Wrinkled and with rotting fangs jutting from its face, rope-like veins were visible under its diseased-looking skin. On its head was perched a reddish-brown cap, which was the color of dried blood. In fact, most of the grime on the creature, Piotr noticed, was not dirt, but indeed it seemed to be old blood.

Red cap. Or so it seemed. He didn't remember the creatures being as grotesque when he'd been shown them during a lesson at the Institute. Something about it just seemed unnatural. No other creature Piotr had ever seen had inspired such a strong and immediate sense of revulsion.

Piotr had felt somewhat sorry for it. The way its body was shaped didn't seem natural, and the size of its hands and teeth in proportion to the rest of its body must have made its life quite uncomfortable. Blood was flowing down from its cracked skull and pooling on the ground under it. Piotr didn't have time to waste inspecting the creature, however. He needed to get a move on. He could not allow the others to beat him in this task. And, in any case, there might be more of those things about.

Already, this task had delivered its first surprise in the form of this odd creature, though it hadn't been that dangerous, Piotr thought as he kept walking, keeping an eye open for any half-man, half-horses about--or for more danger. The thing seemed fairly stupid, in fact. Nature seemed to be playing a terrible joke with those things. Were these creatures part of the indigenous population of the forest? Or had they been planted there for the Tournament?
