Welcome to Hogwarts Interactive Role Play, one of the net's best in Harry Potter and Hogwarts role plays. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Here at Hogwarts our students are currently in their Seventh Year. Last year, the war against the Knights crescendoed into a direct attack against the school. Disappearances are still reported (or not) daily, and the Dark Lord and his Knights of Walpurgis have succeeded in spreading their message of "do as thou will" far and wide across the globe. Magical Law Enforcement, which is now the only authority in the wizarding world under Martial Law, has responded by tightening security, controlling the media, and strictly enforcing curfews and other laws. Their control is damaging to the people's freedom, and their hierarchy is a suspicious lot. It is clear that some members of the MLE like their new found power a bit too much, others see it necessary, but all are in serious danger of being consumed by it. But with the picture of just what Azariah Amaranth is after becoming ever clearer, and a third player in the form of a group called SAVIOR entering the scene, what will the MLE do next to ensure that they've got the situation under control?

The Elementium, the Higher Plane that had once been hidden just beyond the veil in the Department of Mysteries, and the Deathly Hallows. The pieces of the puzzle have been identified, but what picture do they make?

Today is Day 1 of Year Seven. Students have had time to recover from the Knight's attack, and are beginning to reluctantly return to the walls of Hogwarts. The safety of the school has been diminished, bringing up the question everyone must ask. Are you safe anywhere these days? It's up to each individual to decide their fate, where will you decide to go?

Unused Classroom; Day 3 - Choosing of the Champions

Slipping smoothly into the Unused Classroom with a cigar already entwined between his fingers, Charles slithered silently across the wall, closing the door softly behind him. He walked away from the door, pushing his cigar in between his folded lips, and then lit it with a snap of his finger and channeling of his fire elementium.

Inhaling deeply and pressing himself against the wall, he enjoyed the silent solitude away from the cramped conditions within the great hall; too much time had been spent there already, and he felt claustrophobic from being around teenagers with body odor who had yet to discover the ideal of deodorant or sensible portions of body fragrances.

Karolina opened the Unused Classroom door, and carefully shut it behind her.

Turning around, she saw a figure in the shadows, the air around them hazy with smoke.

"I'd know that cloud of filth anywhere, Charles." Karol said sharply, her hands on her hips.

He'd come here to smoke. Her motive for being here was almost of the same nature. Without waiting for his reply, she went to the desk where the professor used to teach, long professor's robes barely touching the floor, and tapped the drawer a few times. It sprang open, and she lifted an aged bottle of Firewhiskey from it, along with two equally aged crystal tumblers.

She scourgified the glasses without the use of an incantation and uncorked the bottle, the vapor of the liquor, met her nose and she inhaled gently, tipping the neck of the bottle and emptied them into the glasses about 1/4 of the way.

"I don't know you very well, but I am confident that even you wouldn't say no to a glass of Ogden's Firewhiskey, year 1297." Karolina commented coolly, stoppering the bottle once more and setting it onto the table.

It hadn't been the best of days for Karolina. She'd been in a haze of acute amnesia for the past week, and had only become lucid as of earlier in the day. The blow of the stone floor in the dungeon had literally knocked her into next week. Karolina couldn't remember how she'd behaved, but when students had been happy to see her walking through the halls, and not hiding as they usually did, she had an idea. When she'd returned she was wearing lavander. Everything was lavander. Miranda had been kind enough to change the color of her dress, professor's robes, and shoes back to their normal black.

Come Monday, they'd remember the real Karolina Sneckenberg. When she'd come from the infirmary, one of the younger professors (Karolina couldn't really be bothered to remember her name) informed her that she was needed to chaperone the Halloween Feast.

And this was Karolina's reaction. Not going to the Great Hall, but going instead to have a drink in the Unused Classroom. Alone. But that plan had dissolved with Charles's attendance.

Karolina didn't really know much about the Professor of Magical Concepts, only that he was known to constantly wear suits, and constantly be accompanied by a freshly lit cigar. He kept mostly to himself, but then again, so did she. Her dungeon was her sanctuary.

Peering coolly at the opposite wall as Karolina entered, Charles took a deep drag of his cigar, only turning his eyes to look at the Professor of Potions as the cloud of smoke started to exit from his nostrils. Ticking at the side of his cheek, he pressed his foot off the wall, giving him starting momentum to move in Karolina's direction.

"Ah, Ogden's. The summary of my ecstasy of my years at the Ministry and the pitiful rule of Minister Egill Bera," Charles ticked, his voice moving to the beat of his movement. Tucking his cigar in between his lips, he rolled his palms, levitating the bottle and his glass, facilely pouring the firewhiskey into his goblet.

Allowing the bottle to levitate in air until Karol grasped it again, Charles allowed his own cup fly over to him until he grasped it.

"Cheers," he said, holding the glass, still not taking a sip. He looked at Karolina with an increased curiosity. She always seemed to be a teacher who would follow all of the rules, as she was inclined to dramatically enforce them. Seeing a new side, he supposed not, enjoying the new thoughts that mustered.

Turning, Charles walked off towards the boarded-up window apathetically looking over the dust and cobwebs infesting the corners of the walls.

"It's been less than a day... and I already detest this entire competition."

"Charles...I do believe that we agree on that." Karolina said when she brought the glass from her lips. "Allowing foreign students into Hogwarts so soon after the attack is...irresponsible, in my eyes. Even if Mad-Eye is present."

The dark-haired professor paused, looking at the swirling liquid in against the reflective crystal As he turned away from her she looked, noting that he stood.

"Your cane is gone." she remarked, taking another sip, the glass resting her damaged hand. She was still capable of holding a glass, even with her ring finger of her right hand missing.

"A sign of a healed wound," Karolina added, moving her glass around in a circle using her wrist, swirling the amber liquid slowly.

"The wonders of manipulating pure magical energy, Karolina. It's a shame that it didn't heal sooner, but it doesn't matter."

Holding his cigar in between his middle and index finger, Charles pressed his goblet to his lips and took a large gulp of the firewhiskey, closing his eyes in nostalgic pleasure as the liquid sizzled against his lips and down his throat.

"It's been a hard year and a half. With Azariah Amaranth, the meticulously planned murders, and a close-to genocide that occurred at the Quidditch Championship, I would presume that Headmistress Belliford and the headmasters of the other schools wish to keep the students' minds away from the hard times."

Charles turned towards Karolina, taking another drag of his cigar, followed by a sip of firewhiskey.

"However," he cleared his throat, releasing the smoke, " I can only assume that it shall be short lived. I fought Azariah.... and what he was capable of is far beyond the understanding of the Ministry; even those in the Department of Mysteries, as I was. I'm expecting a jailbreak."

"Ignoring a problem and pretending that it doesn't exist has never helped any situation, Tortal." Karolina retorted. "By pretending that there isn't a Dark Lord, we submit ourselves to him, defeated."

She tilted her glass back, another deep sip into her glass.

"The Quidditch World Cup was to demonstrate to us that the threat is very real. Amaranth will escape the pitiful bonds that the Ministry has bestowed upon him. We can either pretend that the express train isn't speeding toward us, but it will hit us all the same." Karolina said.

"And when it comes, the students will be very much involved, as they were when the demonic Red Caps first attacked Hogwarts, and when Amaranth's followers attacked Hogwarts as well. They are fools if they think a juvenile prance-about competition will take the place of all the family members these students lost last summer. And the ones that lost family members randomly thanks to these Knights." She drained the rest of her drink, clutching the crystal glass very tightly. The glass began to creak, straining from the pressure under her hand.

Karolina repeated this again, whispering. "They are fools. You've seen what he can do, Charles, and so have I. Azariah Amaranth stole a limb from me. I'll be returning the favor a hundred-fold, when the time comes." Karolina said bitterly, motioning the bottle of Ogden's over, and renewing her glass 1/4 of the way. When she drank, Karolina's harsh German accent seemed to return.

"I'm amused that we're on the same page, Karol," Charles hissed, pressing his back against the wall. "Yet I'm sure that there is so much more to meet the eye. Bidelia has jumped head first into other matters other than making sure that the students are adequately prepared, which to me screams absolute ignorance and stupidity."

He sighed, "There's only so much that we can do here with the students, Karol. I'm sure that most of them have generally surrounded themselves with other matters instead of actually focusing on the political matters of the world. However, I wouldn't expect children to take note of the events of the world when they have schoolwork; especially in your class."

Charles smirked, taking a drag of his cigar. "But Azariah Amaranth, whether or not I really want to believe so, is the greatest threat to everything and everyone. He isn't like the past dark lords who just kill a few people and move on. He has power and a voice that can control. He has a cult following, and I really hope that his word is never capable of spreading through these halls. The promises of power and freedom, which he so often preaches, can be highly attractive to the young minds and corruptible spirits."

Karolina chuckled darkly, taking a lengthy sip from her glass, the fiery liquid calming her gently.

"Then let us drink to his downfall, and to his soul burning forever in the pits of his own personal Hell." Karolina slurred, raising her somewhat damaged glass with only four fingers, and holding it out in front of her.

"And to us, Charles, the only people who are thinking clearly in this entire curst school--and we've been drinking!" she said, cackling with short laughter. Karolina slid slightly off her perch on the edge of the wooden desk, pitching forward a little until the high heel of her shoe stopped her.

Charles raised his glass, letting his hand holding his cigar fall shiftlessly to his side. His tolerance to alcohol was significantly high, yet the half-drained glass of Ogden's was capable of making him partially inebriated. He looked to Karolina who was already showing signs of intoxication on a higher scale of his own. Sighing, he pushed himself off of the wall.

"Cheers," he said, switching his hands to take a drag of his cigar, "to the death of peace and good times, and to the birth of fleeting dreams and a nearly endless battle."

The alcohol may have made Charles a little more susceptible to exposing things he knew that no one else was to know.

Karolina tipped the crystal tumbler back, letting the remaining amber liquid spill down her throat. She plunked the crystal tumbler down on the desk.

"The battle will be endless. No one is untouchable. No one can walk away from what's coming." she said, hanging her head slightly, her dark mane hanging over her face as she tried to restore her equilibrium.

Karolina snapped her head back, tossing her hair, and pushing it back out of her face. "My teaching methods, Charles, are nothing less than what you and I received when we were educated. Today's teachers have gone soft, and they don't hold their students to the standards that would help them succeed. My main concern is that some teachers have gotten lazy, and following suit--their students have. I take pride in the fact that my students will know how to brew healing potions in time for the battle approaching--if only because I disciplined them accordingly. Some teachers are here to make friends with their students. I am not one of them. They are here to learn, and I am here to teach. There is no middle ground. Though they may hate me now, I'll have saved their life one day."

Karolina's piercing blue eyes locked with Charles' brown ones. "That's the price we pay as professors. The sacrifice that we SHOULD make. It secures the futures of our students that way."

"Am I hard on them? Definitely. Failure is unacceptable--now more than ever."
After speaking for such a long time, Karol decided that she needed to wet her whistle. So she uncorked the Ogden's and poured a generous amount into her glass, about 1/2 the volume of the glass. She took a healthy swallow, then re-corked the bottle.

"When we hold all students to the same accord, we may neglect certain aspects of their personality, mental capacity, and needs for them to learn. The way we teach the students is fit to what we think will educate them; not necessarily in a way that they'll actually learn. Some students may need a more lenient work schedule while some students may need to get their asses flogged," Charles sighed, draining the last drops of the Ogden's liquor.

"While I agree that students need to learn, they need to learn in an environment that would best suit them and would best push them to their potential. When most professors teach, they teach the students to the potential they prefer... instead of the potential the children may have within them."

He grumbled, taking another drag of his cigar. "I have allowed my class to work at their own pace through every experiment and lesson. I have allowed them to do what they wanted to when we learn the more abstract concepts. I have studied them, and those that decide to continue with my class past 5th year shall be rewarded with a unique learning environment suited personally for them."

Karolina snorted.

"Teaching in general is a thankless job, though. We teach the wizards of tomorrow for mere sickles, and they move on to greater futures than the ones we've resigned ourselves to." She sighed, running her fingers through her hair once more.

Sitting the tumbler on the desk beside her she added, "The fifth year class will be, in my opinion, the best class I have taught thus far. The seventh years are lazy, the sixth years insipid, and the lower years have no cause for mention. But, the fifth years will be our legacy, from what I've seen." Karol finished her tumbler for the third time, before summoning Charles' tumbler as well. She scourgifyed the two and then replaced them, along with the bottle, in the secret compartment of the desk, accidentally jamming her finger in the process.

"Schei," she swore, rubbing her finger. "I don't need to lose any more of these."

Charles nodded, understanding, but nonetheless disagreeing. He didn't want to push the issue further as the argument would essentially go nowhere. Teaching was a thankless job, sure, but why was that? Was it because the students would never thank the professors regardless of how they taught, or was it because the students didn't think they deserved gratitude?

"The fifth years are worthy of pride on our part. 7 of them: all capable of Elementium use. The probability of that actually happening is... impossible," Charles ticked, continuing to repetitively take drags of his cigar. "They're destined for great things, I think. Even with certain... students acting out of line."

Karolina tilted her head.

"Even if they're out of line," she slurred slightly, "They will still be infamous, in the pages of the History of Magic texts of the future. We don't know yet that the Elementium users aren't bad seeds. There's no way to tell. They're fifteen." Karolina, apparently forgetting where she was, stretched, curling her arms upward until they straightened, the loose sleeves of her black robes inching toward her shoulders as she did, baring her arms.

Exhaling, Karol added, "The bad seeds will none-the-less be sown into the Earth. It's up to us to help them flourish, even if it takes extra dicispline and care."

"I don't have any doubts that some of the Elementium users will end up great. I am simply concerned over a specific two that possess the more powerful kinds of Elementium: Hellius and Julian," Charles sighed, expressing worry over the future of the two young men. "Hellius is... Hellius, and from what I have witnessed from Julian is... a deep undertone of corruption."

Charles rubbed at his brow, taking another drag of his cigar.

Karolina nodded sagely.

"Both boys show tremendous potential. What they do with this potential is entirely in the hands of Fate. All we can do is guide them toward the right path. If the Fates deem otherwise, regardless of our coaxing, they'll walk the path that has already been chosen for them."

"For every class of students Hogwarts turns out, there are some who've been corrupted. Herr Kahn, I fear, is no exception. As for Hellius--it is uncertain. He's also a werewolf, in addition to being an Elementus."

Karolina crossed her legs, sitting on her perch. Shaking her head, her hands curled under the edge of the desk.

"I brew wolfsbane, but I know not if he takes it as he needs to."

"There are a lot of things that are questionable within Hellius's well-being. Are you aware of his other condition?" Charles pondered, tilting his head off to the side. Jumping to conclusions, he continued, deciding to recap even if Karol didn't know previously. "In second year it was found that he had a magical parasite."

Having a small flashback over the events in the Hospital Wing in 2nd year, Charles' eyes flashed towards the door, quickly flushing all of the air left in his lungs from his nostrils. He took a drag of his cigar again and pushed himself off the wall behind him to start towards the door.

"But now, I suppose, it's time to get back to the feast. Our absence has most likely been noted."

Carefully slipping through the door way, Charles exited the Unused Classroom.
