| Welcome to Hogwarts Interactive Role Play, one of the net's best in Harry Potter and Hogwarts role plays. We hope you enjoy your visit. Here at Hogwarts our students are currently in their Seventh Year. Last year, the war against the Knights crescendoed into a direct attack against the school. Disappearances are still reported (or not) daily, and the Dark Lord and his Knights of Walpurgis have succeeded in spreading their message of "do as thou will" far and wide across the globe. Magical Law Enforcement, which is now the only authority in the wizarding world under Martial Law, has responded by tightening security, controlling the media, and strictly enforcing curfews and other laws. Their control is damaging to the people's freedom, and their hierarchy is a suspicious lot. It is clear that some members of the MLE like their new found power a bit too much, others see it necessary, but all are in serious danger of being consumed by it. But with the picture of just what Azariah Amaranth is after becoming ever clearer, and a third player in the form of a group called SAVIOR entering the scene, what will the MLE do next to ensure that they've got the situation under control? The Elementium, the Higher Plane that had once been hidden just beyond the veil in the Department of Mysteries, and the Deathly Hallows. The pieces of the puzzle have been identified, but what picture do they make? Today is Day 1 of Year Seven. Students have had time to recover from the Knight's attack, and are beginning to reluctantly return to the walls of Hogwarts. The safety of the school has been diminished, bringing up the question everyone must ask. Are you safe anywhere these days? It's up to each individual to decide their fate, where will you decide to go? You're currently viewing our forum as a guest. The Plot "Beyond the Veil" Story Arc The Wizarding World is one that often resists change. When change is inevitably forced upon this world, how will you keep your world from falling apart? Or will you help to deal the shattering blow? Four hundred years ago, humanity began deep exploration of the great mysteries of our world. Not long after the forming of the Ministry of Magic, a doorway was created to the very deepest reaches of the realm beyond they physical world. Beyond this door was a realm of all things, where all things are connected, where all things stem from, and to where all things eventually return. It is the realm of death, of life, of everything and nothing. But what also lurked beyond that door was equally terrifying as it was powerful and intriguing. Contact with this entity caused insanity to anyone who had attempted to contact it, and so the doorway at the lowest level of the Ministry of Magic, within the Department of Mysteries, was sealed with a veil, and the sapient entity beyond it sealed away from contact with the physical world before it could be understood. In the years that followed, humanity, both muggle and wizard, flourished. Great strides were made in the understanding and control of magic, and on the muggle side, new fantastic inventions were created. After thousands of years of riding on horseback, man could fly, could build great towers of glass and steel, could go to the moon. It seemed that, following the Archway Incident, which few knew about, humanity had somehow mastered their own world. And yet, somehow, a certain branch of magic eluded all attempts to fully understand or control it: The Elementium, the power of the very makeup of the physical world, or so it seemed, because the Elementium is a power of the elements. Earth, Fire, Wind, Water, Light, and Darkness, any who control the power of the Elementium held the potential to change the world. But it could not be regulated, could not be controlled, and so the Ministry issued a blanket ban on all Elementium use, and even on instruction of its use or even of its existence, with high penalties on anyone who so much as utters the history of this power. And so, the few born with this power ever learn of it, or how to control it, so the power simply fades away in time. Once again, fear and loathing causes humanity to foolishly attempt to remove what they could not control. Life is never so simple. One cannot simply pretend what one cannot comprehend or control simply does not exist. Humanity cannot always reap what it sows. Enter the Dark Lord, Azariah Amaranth, the strongest Elementus there has ever been. The Dark Lord and his Knights of Walpurgis have set out to topple the Ministry of Magic, and give total and complete freedom of choice to all beings. They are a force of chaos and anarchy. To them, human life and happiness are not so important as their idealized views on free will. Azariah's creed is one of "do what thou will" often regardless of the consequences. The Dark Lord has succeeded in destroying the Ministry for Magic, an edifice of the kind of control the Knights of Walpurgis seek to topple. With the Ministry gone, the Office of Magical Law Enforcement has stepped in to keep the peace, instituting Martial Law. As the people's fear of the Dark Lord increases, however, the MLE responds by instituting stricter and stricter policies, even some that suspend the rights of the wizarding populace they are supposed to be protecting. The people themselves share fault in this, of course, because their fear of Amaranth has driven many into complacency, or they are just simply that naive. Few and far between have realized what the cost of this feeling of "safety" really is, but more and more are waking up to it. Azariah himself benefits from this situation. The actions of the MLE and the people themselves only serves to further prove his point about human nature, about the fragility of society itself, and about the nature of power. Any good terrorist knows it isn't enough just to kill people and destroy their buildings. Azariah's manipulation has caused the world to act in accordance with his view of how it works--this, in turn, is turning many to his cause. Still, others, aware of this conundrum, yet still opposed to Amaranth, now act in secret, opposing both The Knights and their terrorism, and the MLE and their military government. An organization known as SAVIOR now stands in the middle, and with them, the children, students of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry who feel their world being torn apart by opposing forces in a philosophical tug-of-war with disastrous real-world implications. Everyone is highly aware of just how important the children are. Each of them, collectively, are the future, and all sides would seek to influence them. As a member of the new generation, as the future of the world, it is important that you, yes you decide what path you will take, for it will shape the world now being razed by destructive, opposing forces. How will you make the world? (For more info about the plot, and how you can contribute and participate visit the Archway/Higher Consciousness Plot thread--the main plotting page for this cycle's sitewide plot!!) A resurgence of activity of a group of terrorists under the name of "Walpurgia Knights" appears. This group is lead by a man calling himself "Azariah Amaranth". The second war with the Walpurgia Knights ends quickly, and Azariah is tried by the International Confederation of Wizards, and sentenced by the stripping of all his magical powers through a process that has never been documented. He seems to be planning something, but it is unsure of what he is doing. The Ministry of Magic angers the centaurs on the brink of rebellion by instituting "The Decree for the Reasonable Restriction of Potentially Dangerous Creatures of Near-Human Intelligence, Number Eighteen", which reduced their territories, pushing them further into smaller, tightly packed groups. In response, the centaurs declare the area of the Forbidden Forest behind Hogwarts off-limits to all humans, with any trespass punishable by death. The centaur, Bannishtar, begins teaching Divination at Hogwarts, having already been banned from his heard six years previously. Because of the newly formed contentions between humans and centaurs, Bannishtar's appointment become a point of interest amongst politicians as well as the broader wizarding community. Bannishtar works with Headmistress Bidelia Belleford to reason with the centaurs. During which time Bannishtar makes a prophecy of the coming doom for all races. (See Daily Prophet Article: "Ministry Angers Centaurs") (See Daily Prophet Article "Ministry Declares New R.R.P.D.C. Decree") (See Prophecy: "B. to T.N.S.: Dark Lord and (?)") Sometime during this, the parasitic consciousness implanted within Hellius Surla, a student, by Professor Charles Tortal is discovered by Professor Nate Aphelion. In an attempt to counteract it, Nate creates another persona to act as guardian against Tortal's creation, but the guardian is eventually destroyed by the parasite consciousness. 2010 AD May: The magical protections around Hogwarts School weaken somewhat, allowing a group of dark creatures to gain ground towards the school, but are repelled by a group of consisting of professors, students, aurors, and centaurs. In the midst of this battle, Dolores Umbridge inexplicably turns on everyone, firing killing curses with reckless abandon and killing a centaur named Ronin (who had been leading the centaurs in rebellion) before finally being apprehended by Deputy Headmaster Nate Aphelion. Dolores Umbridge dies mysteriously sometime later. (See Prophet Article: "Battle on the Grounds of Hogwarts") July: Alphonse de Ponte du Lac succeeds Dolores Umbridge as Senior Undersecretary under Minister Hugh Logan. August: The Knights of Walpurgis begin a series of murders, but have yet to publicly announce their existence or motives. September: Fourth Year begins. October: After the murders of several witches and wizards important to the community, aurors Anton de Ponte du Lac and Audrina Emerson begin an investigation into the activities of the Knights. November: The Knights threaten to destroy two locations: a floor of the Ministry of Magic, and a muggle political sector, Washington D.C. Minister Hugh Logan fears for his life as well as his career. He creates a shadow organization known as "S.A.V.I.O.R." ("Special Aurors for the Vanquishing of Injurous and Obstinate Reprobates") to combat the Knights of Walpurgis using any means they believe necessary. Anton de Ponte du Lac is put in charge of this group, making Audrina Emerson his second in command. Fearing Logan's intentions, however, Anton divulges all information on the group to Bidelia Belleford, Headmistress of Hogwarts. S.A.V.I.O.R. succeeds in stopping the attack on Washington D.C., but inadvertently triggers the magical device which causes the entire Department of Mysteries to be destroyed. All the devices and experiments within, including the archway, are obliterated, as well as all but a few Unspeakables. A student named Ian de Ponte du Lac goes into violent seizures coinciding with the destruction of the Department of Mysteries, claiming to have heard the voice of a being "from beyond the veil". December: High profile wedding of prominent wizard and witch Alphonse de Ponte du Lac, Senior Undersecretary, and Belladonna Quagmire, the Minister's top Aide. (See Daily Prophet Article: "Gossip Column: Wedding Announcement") 2011 AD June: Alphonse de Ponte du Lac, revealing himself to be a member of the Knights of Walpurgis as well as the Senior Undersecretary to the Minister for Magic, kindaps Ian's girlfriend, the werewolf Constanta Lupei in order to draw Ian to him and convince his step brother to come willingly to the Dark Lord's side. When Ian, backed by friends and former enemies from his year alike, refuses, Alphonse attacks, but is stopped when Ian and Alphonse's wands collide and connect, causing Priori Incantatem, which causes Alphonse's wand to replay all spells he'd ever cast with it in reverse order, and causing all those whom he'd ever killed with the killing curse to appear as ghost-like "echoes" of their living selves. Tinsley Carmichael witnesses her own mother appear from Alphonse's wand, and in the confusion the centaurs shoot Alphonse with a barrage of arrows in revenge for the trouble he'd caused in trying to stir up the centaurs' animosity towards humans. During this time, the Knights of Walpurgis, lead by Azariah Amaranth, attack and cause chaos from within Hogwarts. No deaths occur, and only a few injuries, but Azariah is successful in draining the core of Hogwarts of its magical power in the ensuing chaos. During the duel with Bidelia Belleford and Nate Aphelion, Azariah reveals himself to be hardly human at all, but the result of the man "Azariah Amaranth" being drained of all his magical power. An emptiness was formed within this man, an emptiness that was filled by that which is Azariah's true nature: the embodiment of the elementium itself. Alphonse is believed dead, but is in the papers a week later, perfectly fine and healthy. Ian de Ponte du Lac awakens to find his chest marred by an ugly black scar in the shape of a spider web, as if lightning had struck him. The scar burns every so often. (See Daily Prophet Article "Hogwarts Assaulted!") August: The 134th Quidditch World Cup is held in Britain. A hundred thousand turn out to watch the final match between Ireland and Kenya. The match is interrupted, however, by Azariah and his Knights. Azariah seals all the spectators within the stadium and promises that if they would only kill the Minister, that they would go free. Panic ensues, and not all the violence is caused by the Knights as ordinary citizens become frightened and dangerous. In the end, no normal citizen succeeds in killing Hugh Logan, but Alphonse appears and finishes the job. Anton appears, has a duel with his son, and is killed. Meanwhile, Azariah gathers those students at Hogwarts whom have been confirmed to have the power of the elementium. To Tristan Nightshade, Bellatrix Black, Katriane Quicompoix, Ian de Ponte du Lac, Addie Lumineux, and Hellius Surla, Azariah explains very little, only hinting that they will all become very important in the days to come. Azariah also explained his motives, that he planned to topple the Ministry and bring anarchy upon the world. It is clear at this point that Azariah is a being chaos, and cares little for humans or their needs. In the midst of this, Celia Lumineux, head of the Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes is killed by a Knight, whose face is revealed to her daughter, Addie. In the resulting battle against Azariah, Alastor "Mad-Eye" Moody, a retired auror, with the help of aurors Aurdirna Emerson and Blake Carlisle, discover that Azariah's shadowy form is harmed by the patronus charm, and with the help of Addie Lumineux, angered and saddened by the loss of her mother, uses her Light Elementium power to enhance the positive force of the aurors' patronus charms, aiding in his defeat and subsequent capture. (See Daily Prophet Article: "Chaos at the World Cup") As per Anton's dying wishes, Headmistress Bidelia Belleford repurposes S.A.V.I.O.R. as a group dedicated to the eradication of the remaining Knights of Walpurgis, allowing Professors, ministry officials, and common citizens to band together to fight the Dark Lord and his minions of chaos. Julian Kahn, an upcoming Slytherin fifth year, is contacted by Azariah Amaranth, though Azariah himself is currently in ministry custody and is made the Dark Lord's prophet to the students of Hogwarts. September: Fifth Year Begins. Triwizard Tournament announced. With Azariah Amaranth in custody, it seems safe to have the tournament. October: The delegates from Beauxbatons and Durmstrang schools arrive. The judges are to be the three Heads of the schools, as well as retired auror Alastor "Mad-Eye" Moody and celebrated philanthropist Jeremiah Svalbard. Addie Lumineux recognizes Jeremiah's face as the one belonging to the Knight who murdered her mother. The three champions are Piotr Rasputin of Durmstrang, Mariane Quicompoix of Beauxbatons, and (as a complete and utter shock to everyone) Tristan Nightshade (a Fifth Year) for Hogwarts. Moody becomes suspicious, and has no qualms about voicing his suspicions. Late October: Azariah Amaranth escapes his bonds during his trial before the International Confederation of Wizards. He then proceeds to do exactly what he had promised from the start: obliterate the Ministry, doing so spectacularly, and in the sight of many Muggles in the streets of London. The final death count (magical and non-magical alike) comes in at over two-hundred, with many more still missing. Without a proper government to keep order, Magical Law Enforcement (headed by department head Barrabas DuMaine) take full control of the wizarding community. Martial Law is established, and new, heavily restrictive laws are made "for the safety of the wizarding people." November: The First task ends with a stunning upset, as Mariane Quicompoix takes the lead. (See Daily Prophet article: "The Triwizard Tournament Commences!") December: The Yule Ball is interrupted by a malicious attack on students. Tensions that have been rising between Hogwarts Staff and occupying Aurors and Magical Law Enforcement agents reach new levels. (See Daily Prophet Article: "More Trouble at Hogwarts School") 2012 AD January: The second task ends with Piotr Rasputin in the lead after his deft handling of a Yeti. Marianne Quicompoix succeeds in a different way, her charming of the Yeti in question, and her performance in the first task, made her a worldwide sensation almost overnight. With her new status as Europe's sweetheart, she has garnered more than enough interest by those with the funds to add some much-needed financial backing to Beauxbatons, which had suffered a serious depletion of funds thanks to some bungling by their financial manager. May: Karolina Sneckenberg arrested, removed from her position as potions mistress, and sent to Azkaban. Bannishtar comes to her defense, violently, only to be forced to flee for the forest when the MLE turns its wand on him. June: Charlie Johnson resigns as editor of the Daily Prophet before disappearing. Presumably, taken to Azkaban by the MLE under charges of subversion, but the MLE has never commented on this. (See Daily Prophet article: "Daily Prophet Editor Resigns") The third task ends fairly uneventfully, with Tristan Nightshade walking away with the cup. However, with Marianne already achieving notoriety, and Piotr Rasputin being the recipient of Tristan's prize money, all three champions got what they wanted, in the end, a fitting conclusion, considering the final task was modeled after the Beedle the Bard story, The Fountain of Fair Fortune. Ian de Pointe du Lac was not so lucky. Alphonse made yet one more ploy to get a hold of him, this time planting images of Ian's friends being tortured into his mind. Ian alerted a group of aurors, and together they confronted Alphonse (who was alone) at the Shrieking Shack. The contingency of aurors soundly defeated, Alphonse proceeded to reveal the truth about Ian's visions, and his value to the dark lord: His bloodline, the bloodline of his true birth father, is possessed of a special connection to the heart of magic, that place where vanished objects go, "nothing, that is to say, everything", the place where all is connected, the Unconscious Domain--what Ian's ancestors believed was the "Great Spirit". Azariah wants to come in contact with this power. By toying with his emotions, and with a little unwitting help from Tinsley Carmichael, Alphonse succeeds in breaking down the mental barrier that kept him from penetrating deep enough into Ian's mind to gain access to the Higher Plane. This "wall" was the culmination of all the trauma and self-pity Ian had experienced in his life, the bricks were made up of all that had caused him to recede into himself, to shut himself off emotionally from the world--it was a wall around his subconscious, beyond which lies the unconscious domain, through which human beings truly connect. With it walled off, no one could have ever had a meaningful connection with Ian, and Ian had to break it down to reach out to Tinsley. He did, but at a price. Without his wall, Ian experiences all the vulnerability he has ever feared, and the way is wide open for Alphonse to enter, using their mysterious "link", and grant Azariah Amaranth access to the Higher Plane. Because of this, Bidellia Belleford has sought to teach Ian the art of occlumency, a kind of magic that will help him guard his mind from intrusion, consciously instead of subconsciously, so that it doesn't block out everything like his "wall" did. With Alphonse's subsequent arrest and sentence in Azkaban, the closing of the tournament, and the delegates from Durmstrang and Beauxbatons returning home, Fifth Year comes to a close. August: SAVIOR holds a meeting at Chateau de Pointe du Lac, now SAVIORs base in Alphonse's absence. The children wielding the power of the Elementium are brought to the place, and a discussion is had, bringing together all the information known about the elementium, Azariah, and Azariah's goals together to form a more complete picture. Azariah seeks to unite the Hallows. He now has the Invisibility Cloak, and may be closing in on the Elder Wand. But what would a man who is not even a man need with power over death? And where does the Higher Plane fit into all of this? September: Year Six begins. 2013 AD 2014 AD 2015 AD 2016 AD 2017 AD 2018 AD 2019 AD Edited by Ian de Pointe du Lac, Oct 19 2010, 12:37:48 PM.

A quick reference to the current situation in the current site-wide plot: Today is Day 6 of Year Six. Abraxas Kemp of the MLE has announced that Hogwarts School will now be used as the home base of the MLE, and has also announced that he will be teaching Defense Against the Dark Arts this year himself, as well as starting a club for the early training of prospective Aurors, all to further the cause of better public safety. Repairs from the attack in October are almost complete, though there has been little headway into just who was responsible for the fiendfyre that was summoned. Though there were deaths in the fiendfyre attack, Hogwarts has not closed. In fact, it seems more and more every day that the M.L.E. is keeping everyone prisoner within the castle walls, refusing to let anyone return home to their families. Abraxas Kemp has recently made an announcement that the lockdown policy will be more heavily enforced; he has also announced that everyone at Hogwarts will be submitted to questioning about the recent events. Whether you lost friends, or are recovering from an injury yourself, do your best to enjoy yourselves and keep up with your lessons despite the circumstances. Meanwhile, Kemp and the MLE have been interviewing everyone in the castle, asking all sorts of privacy-breaching questions. But why? Edited by Ian de Pointe du Lac, Jan 2 2012, 11:25:47 PM.
