| Welcome to Hogwarts Interactive Role Play, one of the net's best in Harry Potter and Hogwarts role plays. We hope you enjoy your visit. Here at Hogwarts our students are currently in their Seventh Year. Last year, the war against the Knights crescendoed into a direct attack against the school. Disappearances are still reported (or not) daily, and the Dark Lord and his Knights of Walpurgis have succeeded in spreading their message of "do as thou will" far and wide across the globe. Magical Law Enforcement, which is now the only authority in the wizarding world under Martial Law, has responded by tightening security, controlling the media, and strictly enforcing curfews and other laws. Their control is damaging to the people's freedom, and their hierarchy is a suspicious lot. It is clear that some members of the MLE like their new found power a bit too much, others see it necessary, but all are in serious danger of being consumed by it. But with the picture of just what Azariah Amaranth is after becoming ever clearer, and a third player in the form of a group called SAVIOR entering the scene, what will the MLE do next to ensure that they've got the situation under control? The Elementium, the Higher Plane that had once been hidden just beyond the veil in the Department of Mysteries, and the Deathly Hallows. The pieces of the puzzle have been identified, but what picture do they make? Today is Day 1 of Year Seven. Students have had time to recover from the Knight's attack, and are beginning to reluctantly return to the walls of Hogwarts. The safety of the school has been diminished, bringing up the question everyone must ask. Are you safe anywhere these days? It's up to each individual to decide their fate, where will you decide to go? You're currently viewing our forum as a guest. "You have seemed to forget about what I told you when you first started to attend my class: Magic is connected to everything. Muggles. Squibs. Creatures- everything. Without magic, one would assume that person would be lifeless. The Dementor's kiss is similar to what would happen if one were cut from magic, but it would happen in a much more extreme way," Charles' eyes flashed to Grant, showing subtle amusement. Closing his eye lids, he darted his eyes around before pressing himself to his feet, pacing with a noticeable limp. "All of this is speculation, obviously, but in my studies as an Unspeakable, I theorized that the Elementium and Magic were like a cycle- Ying and Yang. One could not exist without the other, and they both fuel one another. Magic is lifeblood and a considerable notion behind consciousness, and Elementium is behind energy and the cycle of life." "But what about muggles sir? They aren't connected to magic and they seem fine." He didn't quite understand how that fit in with what the Professor had said. It briefly crossed his mind that he was being a bit rude, totally ignoring everyone else in the class. bUt he supposed if they wanted to spea up they would have. Some were probably glad as it allowed them to sleep and not be noticed. |

Jay half listened to the banta between the professor and Tristan for a moment. something they were discussing kind of made sense to him. Magic and the elementium worked like ying and yang. His grandmother often talked about ying and yang being the opposites of energy, that the entire life forms work upon. Tristan had made a good point about muggles but Jay raised his hand then, wondering if something he had seen back home may hold the key to what the professor might be trying to get at. "Professor?" Jay cleared his throat. Normally, he wouldn't speak at all during Professor Tortle's class but this discussion was interesting to say the least. "Back in Kenya, muggles aren't disconnected from magic as I believe they are in the western world. If you go to the bush lands, anywhere outside of the metrapoliton areas, muggles believe in magic. They go to witch doctors to gain luck or medicine for healing. Is it not, that muggles have just forgotten their ties with magic and lack the belief in it due to muggle sciences? Animals are healed at my grandmother's home with magic. A little bit of magic exists within everyone, it's just, maybe I'm guessing, but it's just witches and wizards are more in tune with it than muggles." He looked around, hoping he didn't sound stupid. then resumed his argument. "some muggles believe in the ying and yang energies, those muggles practice in what they believe to be alternative or complimentary medicine, but isn't it just magic at the end of it? muggles just don't understand it? Like in muggle science books they state the brain's capacity is only at 10 percent even by a genius, what if that's the same with magic? Seers are known to exist within the muggle world also. I think, sir, what you're trying to get at is that magic flows just like a river, except its intensity is different for everyone in this world. Just because its a stream, doesn't mean its not there, it's still trickling away! Everyone has access to water, just on different levels!" He raised his eyebrows and shifted uncomfortably. Since when did he give such poetic answers in any class, least of all this one? Jay was confused and blunderd by his ramblings but he waited in anticipation to be told he was wrong. O well, he tried. It'd be the first and the last time, right? |

Cameron tried to hide a snort of laughter when professor Tortal mentioned the ying and yang of magic. He pictured the up-tight professor in Tibet attempting yogic-flying; Tortal's face looked like he was constapated. Either way, Cam 'zoned back in' when his peer Jaceyon spoke up. His slight accent and rough voice always brought Cameron back to class discussions. It seemed that all this talk about OWLs made him even less focused on his school work... the added stress was not helping. Shrugging off all his thoughts, Cameron made a quick note to see how much pensieves costed before jotting down some notes from the class discussion. He sure hoped Kiki was paying attention... Stealing a glance over at her, Cameron grinned as she was doodling some-kind of squiggles on the back of her hand... || ooc: I did some |

Charles looked to Jay as he began to explain, crossing his arms, smirking behind his bandages. The Ravenclaw was explaining everything that he had already thought in a previous year (which is reason he tried not to go into detail), and it fit his theories from the Ministry almost exactly. "Ten points to Ravenclaw," Charles said, leaning back against his desk. "Brief history lesson: the humans developed quite potently without the use of magic for their first years. Humans as a society grew, and we were discovered by the goblins and elves. Goblins and elves are so well connected to magic that they can manipulate it without a use of a wand. Before 1000 BC, the goblins and elves taught humanity how to manipulate magic through the use of wands. Not very long after, magic spread like a wildfire through Ancient Egypt, Wizards casting magical spells onto tombs of the emperors to protect their valuables. "At three years of age, every child would be tested for their connection to magic. Those with strong connections were separated into one group, the Wizards, and those with low connection were separated into another. There were no problems with this system until about 33 AD when the wizard, Jesus of Nazareth, was crucified. This was the first time that muggles and wizards had any sort of problem, and it all spiraled downward from there. The dark ages, which were 600 years of degenerate, godless, inhuman behavior, ended with the final separation of Muggle and Wizard-kind. Not much is known about what happened during that time, but there is evidence to a "Magic and Elementium War" amongst the separation of Magic from human-kind." Charles sat himself on the edge of his desk and kept his arms crossed, peering around the class. "Back on topic," Charles glanced at the board, reviewing the two words listed. Nodding to himself, he turned back towards the class and lowered his hands to the edge of the desk. "Magic and Elementium, yin and yang." |

Jay smiled gently. He had actually got something right from going out on a whim. Wow! He was impressed. And this class wasn't so boring after all. Placing his quil on the desk before him, he crossed his arms and waited for the professor or someone else to speak. Jay had to say, his input today would have impressed his own father which said a lot. He glanced around. Wait, Chelsea wasn't here? Where was that girl? He sighed heavily, wondering where his cousin could have got to now. |

As usual, Valentina had slipped into class a few minutes early, and sat in her favorite seat in the back right corner, where she could pay attention without being paid attention to. Within a minute, Professor Tortal had hobbled in, followed by a few students. A series of questions was written on the board, and though Valentina wanted to do anything but respond to them, she placed a piece of parchment in front of her, dipped her quill in black ink, and began to write. 1. Though the Knights of Warplurgis claim to be enlightening people, all they are really doing is making enemies. They may have good ideas (I wouldn't really know, but it's possible), but they are going about sharing them in the worst possible way. Rather than "enlightening," as they claim to be doing, they have enstated genocide against any and all who don't do exactly as they, the Knights of Warplurgis, bid. I would give up one of my limbs to know what they really want, though it would be safe to assume they desire the power which they profess doesn't allow humanity to live up to it's potential. Or whatever their sales pitch is She glanced down at the paper, neat cursive covered about an inch of it, and was overcome with how little she knew about the Knights of Warplurgis, and what was going on in the wizarding world at all. Her parents had done a good job of keeping her locked up in their home over the summer, and she'd never been one to read papers. She only knew the things that she picked up from conversations she'd had or eavesdropped on. 2. From what I've heard about the Elementium, it is the ability to control elements, though one would come to assume that after hearing the name. As far as I know, it has nothing to do with wandwork, and no amount of studying or training can make you have the Elementium, but it can be dangerous if not used correctly, or for the wrong reasons. But then again, I haven't heard much. 3. Having magic is something that I think many Witches and Wizards take for granted. Like sight, smell, and all the rest of them, Magic is a whole different sense, that so many people in the world don't get the chance to experience. Personally, though, I don't think we should look down on those people just because they're less priveliged than us in that department. Of course, magic comes with it's own rules and limitations, drawbacks and weaknesses, and complicates your life as much as it simplifies it. I don't think magic is good or bad, that all depends on the witch or wizard using it, and the lines between good and evil have blurred as of late, anyway. Magic enriches one's experience of life, though most people who have it wouldn't know how to go about living without it. At that point, the attention she would have been paying to the sheet of parchment in front of her, now half full of black-ink letters, was pulled towards the front of the room, where the professor had written something on the board. There was a discussion taking place, and though Valentina certainly had her own questions to ask, concerns to address, points to make... she just felt more comfortable hanging back and listening to the others. When she participated, she had a tendency to get carried away on a tangent, and walk out of the class having learned nothing other than what had been discussed prior to her contribution. When she got passionate, she didn't like being interrupted, or told to stop talking so the class could get back on track. And, what with the OWLs this year, she knew that she couldn't afford to zone out during a single class. She cast her eyes back down to the wooden table, off-white parchment, a smudge at the corner of the paper, where her hand had brushed against ink before it was fully dried. She still had one more question to answer. 4. There isn't even a competition. I would choose magic, no questions asked. Though I am curious about the elementium, magic has grown to be a huge part of my life that I can't live without. Taking away my magic and giving me the Elementium would be like cutting off my ears and giving me a radio, though I can assume that the situation is reversed for those who have the Elementium. Her quill dropped out of her hand, making almost no sound as it hit the table. |

Savannah raised an eyebrow and looked over at the clock, wondering how much longer class would go. She hated how boring the theoretical classes could be. They never seemed to be as interesting as the practical lessons like charms and transfiguration were; not to mention they were stuck with the hufflpuffs - the most boring house in school. Savannah looked around and smirked at the brown-nosing students around her. |

"There have been recent developments in finding the identity of Mr. Azariah Amaranth. According to a Ministry data file, Mr. Amaranth is several centuries old. It is almost unknown how the "Dark Lord" has managed to outlive nearly every other witch and wizard in the last millennium. However, through research in the Ministry, it has been stumbled upon that a man 200 years ago received a long-banned punishment: severing his connection to Magic. Despite this, his demise remained unknown." Charles quirked his eyebrow from under his bandages, looking around the class for reactions. "So if the Severed Man and Azariah Amaranth have anything to do with each other..." He lead off, making a hand gesture to allow anyone to continue his train of thought. Jay wondered. "Professor, then that would mean we are all truly linked to magic?" He questioned, finding this new piece of information fascinating. How was it that the professor that normally made him fall asleep was now stimulating his mind in ways he'd never thought possible. Jay wasn't even looking at the clock anymore. Glancing around him, he felt so unsure but suddenly it didn't matter because he was learning. Jay realised then that he was a true Ravenclaw, craving knowledge. |

"I meant what I said when I mentioned that Magic was lifeblood," Charles said, glancing at the clock. Noting that the time had changed to lunch, he flicked his tongue at his teeth in slight irritation. He hadn't covered all that he wished to cover, but at least he got his point in; enough to allow the students' minds to wander until the next class period. "Time for lunch," he snapped casually, "you're dismissed." Edited by Charles Tortal, Apr 26 2009, 09:37:20 PM.

Tristan was roused from the conversation to find other studnets packing up their things, heading for lunch. Having enjoyed the class it was a shame it had ended so quickly but he realised he was quite hungry and so was happy to head to lunch. He grinned at Em, "It's Mac time." He headed from the class, wishing he could eat a big, juicy, cheeseburger but knew the house elves were unlikely to comply. |
