Welcome to Hogwarts Interactive Role Play, one of the net's best in Harry Potter and Hogwarts role plays. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Here at Hogwarts our students are currently in their Seventh Year. Last year, the war against the Knights crescendoed into a direct attack against the school. Disappearances are still reported (or not) daily, and the Dark Lord and his Knights of Walpurgis have succeeded in spreading their message of "do as thou will" far and wide across the globe. Magical Law Enforcement, which is now the only authority in the wizarding world under Martial Law, has responded by tightening security, controlling the media, and strictly enforcing curfews and other laws. Their control is damaging to the people's freedom, and their hierarchy is a suspicious lot. It is clear that some members of the MLE like their new found power a bit too much, others see it necessary, but all are in serious danger of being consumed by it. But with the picture of just what Azariah Amaranth is after becoming ever clearer, and a third player in the form of a group called SAVIOR entering the scene, what will the MLE do next to ensure that they've got the situation under control?

The Elementium, the Higher Plane that had once been hidden just beyond the veil in the Department of Mysteries, and the Deathly Hallows. The pieces of the puzzle have been identified, but what picture do they make?

Today is Day 1 of Year Seven. Students have had time to recover from the Knight's attack, and are beginning to reluctantly return to the walls of Hogwarts. The safety of the school has been diminished, bringing up the question everyone must ask. Are you safe anywhere these days? It's up to each individual to decide their fate, where will you decide to go?

Popping his fingers, Charles pressed his shoulder harshly against the wood of the door of his classroom and hobbled inside, the door slamming against the wall as he passed through. Already written on the board were the lesson plans, magically written into the chalkboard with a dark gray chalk. Cautiously throwing his leg up onto the desk, Professor Tortal sat back into his chair and sighed, re-wrapping his bandages that covered his entire face.

Good morning:

Today we're going to be learned about the differences and similarities between the Elementium and Magic, as well as ways to counter act against them both. In addition, we will be discussing information pertinent to the events happening in the world today, such as the Knights of Walpurgis and the Elementium Master, Azariah Amaranth.

Please start off today by filling out short thought questions for housepoints (please note that well thought-out answers will receive more points):

1. In your own words, please express your opinions on the Knights of Walpurgis and/or the Elementium. -Please do not express random nonsense that your parents (who most likely have no idea what they're talking about) have said.-

2. What do you think the Elementium is and how do you think it connects to daily life?

3. What is your view of magic?

4. If you had a choice to be connected to only one of the two powers (Elementium or Magic), which one would you choose and why?

--Please note that there are no wrong answers, and the vagueness of many of these questions have well reason to be.-

Mickey Nathanial
Fifth Year

Mickey happily skipped into the Magical Concepts classroom, still thinking about the patronum he had conjured earier on in DADA class.

With a smile on his face, he pushed the heavy oak door open. He was shocked to see Professor Charles injured neck. It looked pretty messed up. Afraid to look at Professor Charles in his eyes, Mickey decided to walk quitely to his seat and keep his haed low, his mouth shut. He doesn't want to have his housepoints back to negative again, because well, it is still at zero. And worse, the last thing he would want to have now is a detention with Professor Charles.

He held his head up slightly and read the instructions on the board. He'll be writing for housepoints?, unbelievable. And actually, he would really rather write with a muggle ink pen then to use the quills. He sat alone, deep in thought.

Knights of Walpurgis and the Elementium, what is he supposed to write? God have mercy, how he wish another student were to walk in now, be in a Hufflepuff or a Ravenclaw. At least he doesn't have to face this all alone.

Kidnapped!

Tristan entered the room before Em and took a seat somewhere in the middle, his eyes flicking between Professor Tortal and the Hufflepuff who had drawn his picture the night before. The Professor seemed to be both incredibly casual yet somehow threatening at the same time and it always unnerved him. He gave him the pressed lips, eyebrow raise in acknowledgment, choosing silence was better and took out his books. Scanning the board he knew again that he was in for another interesting and quite pertinentto what they were going through. Say what you will about Charles Tortal but the man could keep the attention of a class.

Tristan pulled out a lengthy bit of parchment and his usual quill, scratching his chin with the tip of the feather. They were quite abstract questions and not the sort you just put anything down. Still, he clicked his tongue and began to write.

1. The Knights of Walpurgis are a despicable group bent on destroying the foundations of our world that ward off chaos. What they call enlightenment is in reality an armargeddon. Though they disguise their terrorist acts as freeing wizardkind from the restraints of the Ministry and its ineptitude, I believe in doing so they would create more chaos and destruction than we are currently, apparently, in the midst of. I suppose some may think I'm just regurgitating what has been said in the papers but I've had personal interaction with the Knights of Walpurgis and so have a particular hatred towards them and what they're trying to do. I've seen them kill innocent people and no matter how much you say it's for the 'greater good', it's still murder. A rose by any other name would still smell as sweet.

Reading the 2nd question he decided whether he should go into his own connection with the Elementium but decided against it. Of course Professor Tortal knew but most people didn't, and he knew it wasn't a wildly accepted topic or ability.

2. I suppose the Elementium is both identical to and complete opposite of magic. There are similarities in that it is everywhere around us and can yield great power and abilities much like magic, but it could also be considered the opposite side to magic. Yin and yang, light and dark. Magic and the Elementium are not inherently 'good' or 'bad' but are still like opposite sides of the same coin.
My opinion of it is well...different. I think it's interesting, fascinating, at times amazing, but in the same way that magic is. It connects to daily life in the same way magic does, but its just not as common. Perhaps thousands of years ago it was more prevalent but not so much today.

3. Magic is awesome! Having grown up with a muggle influence as well I can appreciate the 'wow' factor of magic. Perhaps pure blood wizards might just see it as common but not me. Yet magic is very much the same as muggle science - there are a predetermined set of rules that restrict what it can do. Having said that I can appreciate what muggles and muggle-borns like myself go through, where magic is an anomaly which can do fantastic things, yet as mentioned it has a set of rules like most sciences. Just look at Gamp's Exceptions to Elemental Transfiguration - they are a classic example of magic as a science. But in the same way I still have tremendous respect for magic. Yet the more I study the Elementium, the more it makes me wonder whether at one stage the Elementium was once the dominant power in our world which makes each seem more and more like a science. Whose to say it isn't - they are both a set of rules which govern how we enact with the world around us.

4. If I had to choose which to be connected to I suppose I would choose whichever makes my life easier. Having more experience and knowledge of magic I am more inclined to choose it. Also with Elementium, users tend to only be able to control one rather than all (excluding Azariah) which would tend to limit what one could do. For the most part what one lacks in the Elementium can be made up for in the realm of magic. Elementium is the bristles, whereas magic tends to seem to be the whole broom.

Satisfied with his answers he wished he had had more to say on one or two of them but he couldn't quite think of anything else to put in. Anything else would be repeating himself. He placed his answers neatly on his desk and awaited the Professor to begin the lesson. To be honest he was more keen for the discussion/argument he knew would ensue from such a philosophic topic, the nature of the Professor, and the various opinions that existed in their year.

Emma entered class just after Tris, sitting beside him as she glanced up at the board, her eyes cautiously and warily avoiding the man who had written those dark gray words on the board. One was prominent among the usual: elementium. Phrases jumped out teasingly at Emma: Knights of Walpurgis. Azariah Amaranth.

I really, really don't want to do this.

She'd been doing well managing to forget how things really were beyond the stone walls of Hogwarts. Sarcastically she puckered her lips, finally daring to look into the face of Charles Tortal, who she knew she'd later have to confront about her elementium. She was special - he needed to know. But still, everything about him just didn't sit right with Emma..

1. I won't talk about the nonsense my mom or dad said about the Knights of Walpurgis since my mom's dead and can't talk - but the Knights are the ones that did it, so you could just understand my frustration. They aren't anything more than a group of people following one man for some sort of hope. Their lives must have really, really sucked for them to find hope in the most hopeless thing I've ever had the misfortune of meeting.

And elementium? Elementium is...

Emma's sentence traveled off into nothing, and she sucked on the edge of her quill nervously, thinking.

Jay strolled into the room and seeing the professor already seated, Jay chose to head to the back of the classroom. That way, he may be able to slump easily into his chair, a difficult task with him standing at six foot four inches, but further back, the less the professors would notice you right? That was his theory and he was sticking to it. Pulling out his quil and parchment along with his books, he knew this class needed no wand, he settled into his chair at a satisfactory angle and peered at the grey scrawlings on the board.

'hmm,' he thought as his eyes scanned the questions and his thoughts began to whirl. The knights of wallbridges, a bunch of arseholes if you asked Jay. But he knew his professor could not take that as an explanation. Twirling his quil beneath his fingers, he contemplated and began to write.

1. The knights are among an unfortunate breed that would much prefer to live within a world where we all exist under one rule! That rule causes nothing much but chaos and destruction as seen at the quidditch world cup. Using force to get what they want by what ever means and forcing people to follow them at any costs. Their mass disruption and murder caused nothing but pain and to say it was in the name of magic is crude and disrespectful. Magic is not about killing and forcing others to do your bidding. To them it's all about the bigger picture.

Glancing over his words he looked up at question two. This was a little more difficult. The elementium. What was that? Sounded like something he should recognise but did not. Flipping through a book, he wondered. Element must mean to do with the elements, but, then...? Jay scrawled down a quick and presumptious answer.
2. The elementium use the elements rather than magic. Or in conjunction with. By controlling light, fire, water, air, they can use those elements to aid them in their challenge. Sucking on his quil for a few moments, he scribbled down another sentence.

I would assume that the elementium, are the so called light force while the knights of wallbridges are the darker of the powers. This having been said however, cannot always be true as the world does not simply exist in black and white, light and dark, there has to be grey areas in between. so i would conclude that there are those of the elementinium that would use their powers for evil as the dark lord would.

Satisfied with this answer, he looked up at question three. What is your view of magic? Jay pondered.

3. Magic is a useful and wonderful book of knowledge. It causes us to expand our minds and work within realms that the muggles cannot. It is an ancient tradition that has survived many attempts to be stamped out. In short, I wouldn't live without it!
Smiling he wrote his answer for question four.

4. I would always choose magic as it is what I know and I would assume you wouldn't necessarily have that choice to make. You either are an elementium or you are not, or that is what I assume.

Putting down his quil, he rested his chin on his hand and allowed himself to drift off to thought world for a while.
The drum that beats,
is the one in my heart,
a drum keeping me alive,
and reminding me of home!

Abe slumped into Magical Concepts, Professor Tortal - twice in one day! What a special treat! He spotted the little blonde Ravenclaw from the night before and threw her a wink. Em? Emme? Emma... Abe casually walked toward her and sat on the other side, she was deep in thought, he raised his eyebrows. "How 'ya doing today, blondie?" He asked in a velvet voice as he withdrew a quill and parchment from his backpack.

1. The Knights of Walpurgis are experienced, determined and goal oriented. However, they have been misdirected and blinded by their greed of power. They want to change an unwilling society; they want to feel what its like to slowly change the world into a better place. Cutting ties off with the Ministry of Magic would mean anarchy, which in past ventures, has never functioned safetly.

2. Elementium seems more like super magic, or...super powers. It seems a lot more cool than plain old magic though; but like everything, it has limitaions and I guess that could affect you negatively.

3. Magic feels like this inborn element, that I've always harbored and nutured. It fascinates me how muggles don't live the same as we do I mean they can't conjure anything, know the deliciousness of butterbeer, summon an ellios pizza from the oven, refill their drinks ... anything, without having to get up and actually do work. Its mind-boggling how they survive!

4. I supposed I would chose Magic, because...I'm already used to it.

Abe wrote quickly, not taking too much time on one question. His tiny scrawl made it difficult for him to reread his answers, which he was currently skimming. Finishing his half-assed editting job, he dropped his quill onto the desk and leaned back, stretching his abs. He flashed Emma a half cocked smile.

"My name is Emma," snapped Em fiercely, her fingers quickly closing around her quill, in a burst of anger, while she stopped herself before her fist collided with the desk. "And I've think you've caused enough trouble already, haven't you?" Her harsh voice tripped with sarcasm as her deep, contemplative blue eyes scanned Abe's face. Her face towards his, she scrunched up her nose as he sat beside her - in the seat she'd been saving for Dahlia. Figures. Boys.

Em figured that at any moment Hellius Surla would spring from the shadows and slice Abe's throat. Emma snorted with mysterious laughter, like she knew a joke, yet wouldn't share it, in a teasing way she knew so well. She leaned back in her seat, and casually scribbled across the paper in a wild script, dotting all of her i's with hearts. Tortal needed some love in his life.

2. Elementium is...

Elementium is...

Elementium is the control of an element. It's the kind of magic that's dangerous in the hands of someone that can't be trusted - it's the kind of magic that someone, or certain people, would want to control. And yet the power is within. It's always within. Elementium isn't a free-for-all. There's no sign up sheet. It's the kind of power that defines you. It's the kind of power that one can either embrace, or push away.

Emma glanced at Abe's paper, reading surreptitiously, and smirked.

And they aren't super powers. They're much, much more than that.

Stabbing her parchment with her last period, Emma dropped her quill to reread what she wrote.

3. Magic is a way of life. What was formerly a privilege is now considered a right among anyone who could, possibly, possess the potential to succeed: here at Hogwarts, and the world. Where would we all be without magic? Certainly not in this dreary classroom. Most likely all of us would be going through life, normally, unaffected by the daily ailments that magic causes. Johnny wouldn't have been seduced by Valorie, who was always a fan of the love potion here and there, and the Knights of Walpurgis wouldn't have taken my mother.

Magic is a double-edged sword. Not everyone, however, sees that.

Would I give up magic if I could? I do, of course, see all of the problems it's caused. If I could, would I live a nice of normalcy, and mere obscurity? ...Je ne sais pas.

Emma looked at the last question.

She thought quietly to herself. Her elementium, or her magic? She glanced up at Tortal and then shifted her weight so that Abe couldn't see what Emma wrote. She covered one side of her messy script with her hand, bending down low over the parchment so that her blonde curls cascaded around her like a sheet.

4. I'm not giving up my elementium for anything.

Iris walked into the classroom feeling better than she had before. Her eyes were no longer as red and puff as before, but now were replaced with a look of depression.

"Hey, Emma." Iris greeted, but not in her usual cheerful tone, "How are you?"

She looked up to the board, and to no less, she saw that they already had an assignment to do. Iris stared hard at the teacher, then pulled out a piece of parchment and began to write.

"1. In your own words, please express your opinions on the Knights of Walpurgis and/or the Elementium." Iris thought back to the world cup, then back to earlier.

What do I think bout the Knights Of Walpurgis? Iris though, but did not right down on her paper. I think the Knight of Walpurgis can kiss my ---- suddenly, Iris's quill tip broke. She had been pressing down upon it hard, with the hatred and loathing.

Quickly, she pulled out another pad of paper and another quill.

What I think about the Knights of Walpurgis is that all of them should die and--- No, Iris couldn't write that. Iris didn't know what Elementium was, so she couldn't write about that.

Screw this, she thought, I don't care. Her small smile that had entered with her had now flown out the window and landed six feet below, dying an instant death.

"Do you know what Elementium it, Emma?" Iris asked, turning to face her.

1. In your own words, please express your opinions on the Knights of Walpurgis and/or the Elementium.
I have heard very little of the Knights of Walpurgis and I don't know anything about Elementium...

2. What do you think the Elementium is and how do you think it connects to daily life?
I think it is the ability to control the elements...

3. What is your view of magic?
Magic is just energy that we (witches and wizards) can somewhat control and make do certain things for us.

4. If you had a choice to be connected to only one of the two powers (Elementium or Magic), which one would you choose and why?
Magic, it's more versatile than just controlling the Elements... You can do many more things with Magic, I think, than you could with Elements...

((i suck at this btw...))

Tristan watched with a grin as Emma laid into Abe, keeping his mouth shut but laughing on the inside. He glanced at the Professor and again at his notes, hoping he'd begin soon. It was quite comical actually; as everyone came in and took a seat they immediately answered the questions on the board. It was more than likely the fear of the Professor, but everyone finished their answers before placing their quills down. Before long, somebody else would enter and the process would continue. He supposed he was weird in that way, noticing odd things like that. Tristan was the sort of person who'd notice strange things about the place, like the ratio of guys to girls in a room, or he'd count how many candles were lit, silly things like that. It was just the way he was. Come on, Professor!

Especially after last night, he shook his head and chose a seat near Tristan, glancing at the blackboard as he retrieved a piece of parchment and a quill from his bag.
Elementium...? Whattt? Grant was slowly realizing that being muggle born was seriously hindering his chances of survival, surviving the O.W.L's, that is. He sighed, and turned to Tristan.
"Tris, what in the name of Merlin is Elementium?" He asked, his voice was low so that Tortal didn't hear him, a curious look on his face. He was so far behind, was that a spell? Had they already learned this last year?. Grant's shoulders slumped as he realized what utter hell fifth year was already becoming.

"Ooh, fiesty, I like that in a lady."

"Abe, I swear," hissed Em, rolling her crystal eyes. She flipped over her paper and turned up her chin defiantly. "And if I was going to copy off of anyone it certainly wouldn't be you." Em's grimace gave way to a smile as she chuckled at her own quip. "No offense, but if I were you I wouldn't be acting too high, or mighty."

Em's eyes sparkled. "My boyfriend is very protective over me." And, laughing in a slightly condescending way, she tilted her head towards Iris. She hadn't replied when Iris had arrived, seeing as she'd been focused on Abe, but now Em was beginning to notice her friend a little better. Her eyes looked red. Weary. Has she been crying?

"Elementium is the ability to control an element," replied Emma, beaming in a confident way that others wouldn't necessarily possess when discussing the topic. "...Like some people can rip the air out of someone's lungs."

Emma thought of Azariah. Her smile faded.

"I'm going to sit by Grant," she said to no one in particular, and at once sat on his side, patting his arm sweetly as she did. Her wide, sincere eyes were full of excitement as she whispered to him, tugging on the sleeve of his shirt, ignoring that he had been talking to Tristan. "Hellius apologized! Everything's perfect again. Aren't you happy for me?"

Em's paper firmly remained upside down on the desk in front of her, so that her answers still remained hidden.

Charles clapped his hands, sending a shockwave of noise through the room to quiet everyone down. He cautiously took his leg down from the desk and pressed his palms down against the armrests of his chair, raising himself to his feet. Limping to the front of the classroom, Charles leaned against the front of his desk and peered through the classroom, nodding.

"Today, class, we're going to have a discussion on the Elementium, the Knights of Walpurgis, and generally how magic works. If you filled out the questions, your mind is already properly situated around the theories that will possibly be bouncing from your minds," Charles glanced back at the board, the initial writing being replaced with a single word:

Magic

"Now," Charles continued, crossing his arms, "if you remember from several years ago, we discussed that Magic was the life force behind everything. But there has been speculation upon what Magic is capable of, or its 'alignment', or who can control it. The Unspeakables in the Ministry of Magic have been working on this, among many other things. However, through my own research as an Unspeakable, I have concluded that Magic is possibly neutral. Why would this be?"

Tristan raised his hand a little hesitantly but he thought he had an idea, he had afterall already put something similar down in his answers, "I'd say magic was a neutral force as it just exists. It can be used for either good or bad purposes but it only becomes either of those when the wizard or witch themsleves forces it to act in that way. Otherwise it's just a force that exists, like gravity." He was pretty certain he was right, then again there were no right answers as such.

"And, Mr. Nightshade, what do you think would happen to something if it were cut from contact with Magic? If Magic is the life fuel for everything, would something or someone be able to exist without it?"

Charles glanced back at the board again, scribbling more with the grainy chalk.

Magic

Elementium

Charles turned back to the class, shooting a look at the children in the class and the quizzical looks upon their faces. He smirked behind his bandages, guessing that no one would truly be able to give the answer he was looking for.

"Let's use the concept of a fire. What fuels a fire? Oxygen. What refuels the oxygen? Plants through cellular respiration. What feeds the plants? Water and earth. You see the pattern?"

A spark of light began to flicker in Charles' hand. As he peered through his bandages, Professor Tortal lifted his hand from the table and held it upright, allowing his palm to face upward towards the ceiling. Gradually, the sparks grew brighter and built upon itself, soon creating a sparkling, yellow flame.

"The Elementium. Would the powers of the Elementium be able to survive under conditions where magic did not exist? Would Magic exist without Elementium? Tell me your thoughts."

Tristan's head was tilted ever so slightly to the left as he considered the question, "Well, though it'd be a dramatic adjustment, I'm sure a person would manage. I mean, muggles live quite satisfactorily without magic. They have alternatives they use instead of magic." This was the one class apart from Transfiguration where the Professor discussed magical theory with them and it was something that he enjoyed immensely. Whereas usually it was 'follow these instructions', 'write that down', in this class Professor Tortal, though he wasn't a fan of the man, tended to expect more of them intellectually and treated them as such.

He once again raised his hand to question the Professor, "Are you saying that the Elementium and Magic fuel each other? And without one the other could not exist? Much like the fire/oxygen/plant cycle?"

Martouf sat across the room from Cam. He still felt kinda awkward being around him now that Kiki sorta knew what they did that summer. He looked at the board and drew a blank. He had no idea what Walpurgis was or Elementium. He looked over at Cam and noticed he was staring at him. He gave a little nervous wave as he went to look back at the board. Walpurgis... Wal Purge is... Sounds like a group of royalty-like people wanting to purge the world of something... He took out a quill and ink and wrote that down.
