Welcome to Hogwarts Interactive Role Play, one of the net's best in Harry Potter and Hogwarts role plays. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Here at Hogwarts our students are currently in their Seventh Year. Last year, the war against the Knights crescendoed into a direct attack against the school. Disappearances are still reported (or not) daily, and the Dark Lord and his Knights of Walpurgis have succeeded in spreading their message of "do as thou will" far and wide across the globe. Magical Law Enforcement, which is now the only authority in the wizarding world under Martial Law, has responded by tightening security, controlling the media, and strictly enforcing curfews and other laws. Their control is damaging to the people's freedom, and their hierarchy is a suspicious lot. It is clear that some members of the MLE like their new found power a bit too much, others see it necessary, but all are in serious danger of being consumed by it. But with the picture of just what Azariah Amaranth is after becoming ever clearer, and a third player in the form of a group called SAVIOR entering the scene, what will the MLE do next to ensure that they've got the situation under control?

The Elementium, the Higher Plane that had once been hidden just beyond the veil in the Department of Mysteries, and the Deathly Hallows. The pieces of the puzzle have been identified, but what picture do they make?

Today is Day 1 of Year Seven. Students have had time to recover from the Knight's attack, and are beginning to reluctantly return to the walls of Hogwarts. The safety of the school has been diminished, bringing up the question everyone must ask. Are you safe anywhere these days? It's up to each individual to decide their fate, where will you decide to go?

Mary-Eleanor Fawcett
Member Avatar
Sixth year

Full name: Mary-Eleanor Elizabeth Fawcett
Nickname(s): Surprisingly, many people who are not her mother do call her Mary Eleanor. But she prefers her friends call her Mary.
Gender: Female, please.
Birthdate: February Fifth
Age: 17
Year: Sixth Year
Blood: Half-blood
Wand: Willow, 7 inches, unicorn hair.
Preferred House: Slytherin.

Appearance:
Height: five five
Eyes: striking, grey.
Hair: dark brown, naturally curly

Physical Description:
Mary Eleanor is pretty, beautiful even, but not in a way that's in-your-face. There are plenty of girls who will get noticed first because their looks are more striking, whereas Mary's are more subtle. Her skin is fair and her complexion usually flawless (except when subject to excessive stress), her light colored, grey eyes are kind, her lips are full are her smile infectious, and her hair is thick and curly. She's easy on the eyes, and she knows it, but not in the way that she flaunts it. Hers is a comfortable and content beauty which doesn't need to be put on display. No really, it doesn't...if she started putting as much effort into her looks as did other girls, it might look like she was trying too hard. But Mary Eleanor wouldn't be caught dead 'trying too hard' and did perfectly fine with herself on the beauty front. Her looks were pleasant but didn't cause her to stand out and she likes to keep it that way. Really, she stood out enough on her own. With that philosophy at the heart of her fashion, you won't see this girl with much makeup on, or dressing up outside of a ball. Mary Eleanor is what most would call a "jeans and a tee shirt" girl.

Personality:
Mary Eleanor Fawcett is many things, much of them contradictory. You see, much like how she has two first names, there are two Mary Eleanor's at work within one body. The first is the dutiful daughter. Despite the fact that she will never be her father's favorite, she has dedicated much of her life to pleasing him. She could easily pass for a genius, but still continues to work hard at all her endeavors (particularly her studies) and has emerged as one of the brightest witches in her year. Her ambitions are deeply entrenched in who she is, but they are her father's. She could think of several things she'd like to make her priority or chase after in life, but she would give them all up for just a taste of her father's approval. And so Mary Eleanor pours herself into her studies, into working all the right connections, and following all the rules. Because in the end, that's what people like, isn't it? The kind of person who doesn't question whether or not they should (ethically) be doing something and instead focuses on getting the task done. At least it's not hard for her to pretend she isn't willing to do whatever it takes to get what she wants, even if it's just what her father wants for her.

Part of being so concerned with an ideal is that it tends to take over your life. Mary Eleanor is the type who never does anything halfway and keeps her eyes on the prize. One would think she didn't have time for friends or anyone who wasn't furthering her goals, right? This is one of the places where she draws the line. With her friends, she's an entirely different person. She's playful and funny, sometimes even witty. If there's one thing Mary Eleanor loves, it's laughing; she can be a real riot to be around and sticks with the people who will stick with her. She feels very strongly about those friends and her family. She's very close with all her brothers (even the disowned one) and her cousins. Her Hogwarts friends are also dear to her. However, as she makes a good friend, she also makes a loathsome enemy, so don't get in this girls's way. It's advised not to get on her bad side. Mary doesn't forgive or forget: she gets even.

Like all people, Mary Eleanor has her vices. Her favorite vice (and the one real blot on a largely spotless reputation) is the opposite sex. After spending much of her life with her former hippie mother, it could be argued that the whole 'free love' business simply rubbed off on her. However, as Mary appears to be nothing like her mother, this is unlikely. Her willingness to engage in physical/sexual relationships with men can be summed up in two words: daddy issues. Although she hasn't done much actual dating, she is certainly experienced with the opposite sex and seeks physical intimacy and although she might not even be aware of it, emotional intimacy. Her relationship with her father does indeed touch every aspect of her life; emotional distance from the one person she desires to please the most has caused her to try and find that approval elsewhere. Namely, she finds it those physical relationships.

Deep down, Mary Eleanor doesn't actually want any of the things she works so hard to achieve. In fact, when she think about the person her father is, the type of person he wants her to become, she feels physically ill. She's opinionated, kind and compassionate, smart, and ambitious (and not about finding the right husband or the right job). She has her house-elf call her Mary, she's disgusted with the perfect little rich and pureblooded world her father comes from, and couldn't care less about which dress robes are for summer and which are for autumn or which spoons are supposed to go out with soup as opposed to yogurt. She knows the Fawcett family's plans for her (not just her father, but her grandparents, whom she hates) include a politically advantageous marriage to correct her father's own mistaken marriage, a career full of ass-kissing and ladder-climbing, and never rocking the boat. So what would she do if it were up to her, if she had the guts to reject the hollow life planned out for her? She'd probably never marry (or at the least marry someone exciting), do lots of traveling and exploring, and spend the rest of her life trying to be her own person. But then again, that would require her to step outside of her own box, which no one expects her to do, not even herself.

History:
The Fawcetts are an old Scottish pureblood family, and are even rumored to be descended from the brother of Rowena Ravenclaw. Then again, that's just a rumor. They are similar to the Weasley family in that girls are a rare commodity, and the majority of Fawcetts are men. But regardless, they have a long history of producing strong leaders. Although not the typical blood purist type, Alan Fawcett and his brothers were raised without any exposure to the Muggle world. In a 'rebellion' of sorts, after Alan graduated from Hogwarts, he left the Wizarding World for several years and re-emerged married to a muggle hippie (Vinny) with a son (Aidan). The couple stayed married through the birth of their youngest child, Duncan, before separating. The two oldest children went to live with Alan in his family's ancestral home (some speculate his divorce had something to do with his parents' will), while Duncan and Mary Eleanor moved to the Muggle world with their mother. ME was roughly 4 years old at the time, and has few memories of their time as a happy, nuclear family. Her only memories of her father as of him as a distant, pressuring figure.

Alan always pressured his children to be the best and the brightest, to work the hardest and go the farthest. When his middle son Craig did not follow this mold and turned out to be nothing more than a trouble-maker and an average student ("you're not living up to your potential!"), Craig became branded as the "black sheep" of the Fawcett family. He was effectively disowned and technically was supposed to be dead to everyone. Vinny, sad that such a situation would come about, continued to extend her love and attention to Craig and in this manner, she and Mary are similar. Rarely one to disobey her father, she makes an exception for her beloved older brother. Her oldest brother, Aidan, was always very clearly chosen as his father's favorite. Despite this, Mary Eleanor would die trying to take his place...perhaps in the hopes that her father would return for her.Sadly, so far, this is not the case and mostly she hears about all the things she's doing wrong or at the very least should be doing if she wants to get anywhere decent in life.

Vinny Charleston (she went back to her maiden name after her divorce from Alan) was certainly an unconventional parent. A former hippie, she tried to raise her children in a free and loving environment; this is especially true after her divorce. She harbors no hatred for the man she once loved (still loves?), only sadness and disappointment. Despite her upbringing, Mary Eleanor appears to be nothing like her mother, and has a reputation for being cynical, caustic, and uptight. However, the only blot on her reputation (which her father can never hear about, of course) is her willingness to engage in sexual/physical relationships with men. Although she hasn't done much actual dating, she is certainly experienced with the opposite sex and seeks the intimacy (and also, secretly, the love) she never had growing up.

Family: Alan Fawcett (father), Vinny Fawcett née Charleston (mother). Brothers: Aidan, Craig (both older), and Duncan (younger).
