| Read Today's Daily Prophet: Knights of Walpurgis attack Hogwarts; Belleford steps down as Hogwarts closes until further notice |
| Welcome to Hogwarts Interactive Role Play, one of the net's best in Harry Potter and Hogwarts role plays. We hope you enjoy your visit. Here at Hogwarts our students are currently in their Seventh Year. Last year, the war against the Knights crescendoed into a direct attack against the school. Disappearances are still reported (or not) daily, and the Dark Lord and his Knights of Walpurgis have succeeded in spreading their message of "do as thou will" far and wide across the globe. Magical Law Enforcement, which is now the only authority in the wizarding world under Martial Law, has responded by tightening security, controlling the media, and strictly enforcing curfews and other laws. Their control is damaging to the people's freedom, and their hierarchy is a suspicious lot. It is clear that some members of the MLE like their new found power a bit too much, others see it necessary, but all are in serious danger of being consumed by it. But with the picture of just what Azariah Amaranth is after becoming ever clearer, and a third player in the form of a group called SAVIOR entering the scene, what will the MLE do next to ensure that they've got the situation under control? The Elementium, the Higher Plane that had once been hidden just beyond the veil in the Department of Mysteries, and the Deathly Hallows. The pieces of the puzzle have been identified, but what picture do they make? Today is Day 1 of Year Seven. Students have had time to recover from the Knight's attack, and are beginning to reluctantly return to the walls of Hogwarts. The safety of the school has been diminished, bringing up the question everyone must ask. Are you safe anywhere these days? It's up to each individual to decide their fate, where will you decide to go? You're currently viewing our forum as a guest. Bannishtar awoke in a cold sweat. Immediately he gasped for air, breathing deep, then cursed himself for forgetting as the lacerated muscles of his chest protested with sharp, yet prolonged pain. The bay centaur clutched his sides, the wounds had come open again. Cursing, Banni raised himself up to his hooves--but not without more excrutiating pain and great effort. Taking pains not to breath too deeply in fear of triggering another protest from his injured muscles, the centaur made his way across his indoor forest to a pond at the edge of the clearing where he'd been sleeping on the floor. It was dark, but the small, clean pool reflected the opacity of the simulated night sky above, as well as its many starts. Removing his bandages, Bannishtar checked his reflection, and saw, as he had feared, that that blood was now running in scarlet streams from his day-old wounds. The centaur used the water to wash himself, and afterwards he changed the bandages around his chest as he reflected upon his dream: He was running through the dark forest once again, only he had no weapons, only his fists and hooves to defend himself with as a huge, growling beast stood before him. Banni charged, bu the beast roared, opening its great maw, which seemed to fill all space around the centaur, swallowing him whole. It wasn't a vision, no, Banni's race had long ago perfected the art of controlling when and where such phenomena would occur, but it still seemed important. Going back to lie down, Banni needn't have wondered what it was about: Professor Miller had made it quite clear that changes would occur in him after the wounds he'd sustained from Miss Lupei, despite his inhuman immunity to lycanthropy, and Banni was afraid--afraid of what those changes would entail. Already he'd been having fevered dreams that gave him a foreboding sense of the future that no trance or heavenly body had ever given him--a frightening fear and realization of his own future. With another professor covering his classes for the next couple of weeks at least, Banni was free to rest and recover, but the the knowledge that he would never truly, fully recover stayed with the centaur even as he drifted into an uneasy slumber. |

Fera felt dumb. Not stupid dumb, that is. Dumb as in ‘a innability to speak'. It wasn't a normal feeling for her. The feeling of extreme pity, the feeling of... compassion. As a matter of fact, Fera had never felt compassion before. Not for a ‘intellectual being'. She had, just two seconds ago, barged into the divination classroom. And barging in to the room, well, that just broke her little heart. (And people used to wonder if she even had one... Well, it sure was hurt now.) All the pain Fera had ever felt, and Fera had had her good share of pain, was nothing to this emotional, pure pain. It ripped her up more than the redcaps could ever do. Just the sight of the centaur in pain, crippled, was much more than the girl could handle. Now, two seconds later, she was standing at the exact same spot, just dumb. Or... She was regaining her voice right now. "What happened?" Shattered, broken words. Filled with all the love Fera could ever offer. She cried. True tears. |

Banni opened his eyes. It had now been more than a month since Halloween, but the wounds the centaur had incurred that night continued to ache. He had, however, been able to stand much easier, and did so. That, and of course, the centaur was not going to allow himself to appear weak in front of others. It was that old pride that was the shortcoming of his race. "Ah," he said, only a little of the strength in his voice diminished now that he'd had some time to heal, "I was wondering when you might wonder where I have been, and why I have not been teaching my class. As you can see, I've been injured." Banni knew better than to give away all the details. Miss Lupei and Mr. Surla's well-being depended on anonymity. "I got into a bit of a fight with a creature in the forbidden forest. Some students were in danger, so I acted. The other professors and I were able to subdue the creature. Anyways, I should be able to teach again by the time the Holidays are over." He hoped. Banni also hoped that answer would suffice for the poor girl. Banni studied the image of young Miss Collis. Banni's scars were nothing compared to her's, for she remained heavily bandaged since the incident last year, when she'd been caught up in the chaos and carnage of the Red Cap incident. Banni still had no idea why the girl had been out there, but the fact remained that she had been mauled and permanently disfigured by those vile creatures. A strong sense of pity welled up inside the centaur, allowing him to forget his own pain in the face of true suffering. Banni smiled warmly, in spite of the pain he felt. "Now," he said, "Miss Collis, might I ask why you are here and not out enjoying the game? I would be there myself if it weren't for my current predicament." |

Fera had never been so happy for being fooled. Because, it was rather obvious that Banni was doing exactly as she did so often, pretend be better than he was. She listened to his explanation, not seeing any reasons to dig further. Quidditch. A perfectly normal topic. Fera shrugged, "Oh… I don't like quidditch, never understood it." The fun with a bunch of people flying with balls never really got Fera's attention. Sure, it required some talent, and could be impressing, but hey, being a rock required talent too. Fera could never be able to be that still. Then, suddenly, Fera felt a strange feeling in her stomach, a impulse. So, all of a sudden, she flung her arm around Banni, and hugged him. For once, Fera didn't care about anything else but one thing, she felt happy. |

"Well, I suppose it isn't for everyone. I myself could never get on a br--" Banni felt arms, relatively small compared to his own large frame, wrap as tightly as they could around the centaur's front. Fera's head was buried in the brown fur that covered the centaur's lower half. Banni looked down with somber eyes at the girl now clinging to him. The well of pity the centaur had for this girl deepened within him. The centaur was a bit rigid with uncertainty. His arms remained stiffly at his side, not daring to hug her back. He was not sure that this was at all proper. Banni saw a bit of himself in Fera: She was an outcast, like him, of her herd. Abandoned, beaten, humiliated; Banni's own kind had shown him little kindness. Like Banni had once been when he was barely an adult, after he'd been banished from his heard so many years ago, the girl was bitter. Banni's bitterness had gradually left him with age, and also with the kindness he'd been shown by many of the humans at Hogwarts. Perhaps it was time Bannishtar passed on a bit of the kindness these humans had shown him. "Miss Col--...Fera," said Banni slowly, "I am sensing that you are lonely. Are you not making friends?" |

As no response came, Fera's smile suddenly faded, and she let go of Bannishtar. Her eyes wandered of, settling on her feet, and she croaked, "Sorry…" For once, Fera was red, not of anger, but of embarrassment. "I don't know what went off me…" She looked up slowly though, as Banni began to talk. The words didn't mean much to her, lonely… Friends? "Lonely… I guess? But, I just can't relate to humans." She looked back at her feet, focusing her eyes on a spot on her left shoe. "People are too unreliable, I'm too different. I doubt any of them are of any use in the future either… And, in my opinion, friends are overrated." It wasn't all true, a real friend was something Fera really would want, but she just couldn't see that friend in anyone. So, in her own arrogance, she had decided that no one would ever be good enough. "Meh…" |

Some of the things Fera had said puzzled the centaur. Actually choosing to be alone? Such thoughts were alien to Bannishtar's race, where survival depended upon community; only Banni was an outcast. And even then when he'd been ousted, he had almost immediately sought company with human kind. Then, he realized, Fera was doing the same, only in reverse. "You say you find humans to be unreliable?" he asked, looking down at her with concern, "Well, I do have to warn you that in my years as both a centaur and as a teacher of human children, there is less difference between our races than either of our kind will admit to. We group together for support, and we oust those who are different from us, because somewhere in that primitive part of our minds, 'different' means dangerous." Banni placed a hand on the girl's shoulder. "I'm not asking you to try and be great friends with those who shun you, Fera, but perhaps even if they are not willing to understand why you do the things you do, you could learn to understand the reasons behind their actions. I've had an...easier relationship with my former heard ever since I realized that understanding breeds empathy, and empathy and goodwill are often times as contagious as apathy and hatred seem to be." Banni smiled. "You've been hurt," he said, "Mentally..." his eyes scanned across where her missing limbs should be, and then to the bandages Fera always wore upon her face to cover the scars, "and physically. I do not purport to know why you were out in the forest last year when you were maimed by those vile creatures, but you did not deserve what had been brought upon you. However, you can't drown yourself in self-pity just as you can't live in anger and hatred. I firmly believe that knowledge is the key to happiness, that if all humans, elves, and centaurs were to learn and understand more of each other, then many of the awful things that have come to pass recently would never happen again." Banni lowered his body, bending his legs so that he rested on his equine belly as if to allow Fera to climb upon his back. Then, he closed his arms lightly around the small girl, being mindful of where here old wounds might still pain her; ignoring his own pain as his torn muscles unleashed their protest. "If you need me to help you," he said, "to talk to you, to help you understand the things that have befallen you...I will be glad to be a friend to you, Miss Collis." |

Fera's eyes widened as she listened to Banni speak. What he said was the truth, although Fera didn't want to admit it. "I…" She didn't know what to say, and just looked away as he lowered himself down, wrapping his arms around her. Biting away some of the pain (Bannishtar was putting a bit to much pressure on her stomach, where she still had a scar.) A bit of her wanted to giggle as she realised how pathetic they must look. Both wounded a lot, both in large pain, but both to arrogant, at least she was, to show it. Then her mouth began to talk, the way it always did, "I did a stupid choice, I went to relax, climb and just… play." It sounded weird in her mouth, but Fera was like any other child, at least deep down, "Then, things just happened, I remember that someone attacked me, and…" She couldn't remember it all, not the essential details, "It was a he, and a Gryffindor, I remember the badge glinting in the moonlight…" She bit her lip. "I was weak, and fell. The pain was rather bad, and I was petrified. Then I remember the creatures feasting, dripping their hats in my blood…" It was disgusting, but it was the truth, "I saw it all pass by, from the start…" She didn't even blink, "I was dying… Perhaps I even was dead." "But He thought it not to be my turn to leave, and so I had to return to the mundane realm, hell. That was it. There was nothing more to it." She looked away for a second, "But in a way, I am happy for it, that it was me, and not someone else there. I can take the pain, my skin is thick, but it someone else was maimed…" She returned to face Bannishtar, her voice strengthening, "if someone else was maimed like that, in front of me, I would, with no doubt, have gone through it for them." She hadn't needed to finished the sentence, she could have already ended it before it was fulfilled, but Fera somehow felt she needed to say it. In her thoughts, she added, I'm not a hero, not a saint. I wished for a better life, and sinned with that hope. |

Banni was shocked at the news that she'd been attacked by one of her own housemates that night. His expression became one of urgent seriousness. "A Gryffindor boy, you said?" he asked, pulling away from her, but keeping his hands upon the girl's shoulders. He looked her directly in her one remaining eye, "You didn't see what he looked like? Did he say anything that might stand out?" |

She shrugged, "I can't remember… Brown hair?" It didn't help, alot of gryffingdor boys had brown hair. Fera tried to search through her memories, but failed to remember much, "He seemed distressed…? Uneased." She nibbled on her lip, and rubbed her fingers against her palm, as Fera used to do when she really tried to think. Slowly she tried to rebuild the scene inside her head, but nothing more came to her, except… "He was accompanied by a girl, she seemed impatient…" That was it. Fera remembered nothing else. What she knew was not enough, but it would be weird if she did remember even more. So, she changed the topic, Fera didn't liked being interrogated, "The holidays begin soon…" |

Banni was not sure if Fera's descriptions could help to find her attackers. Regardless, it was a cruel twist of fate that Fera had been attacked when the Red Cap horde had stampeded. Had they not, whatever that boy and his female accomplice could have done to her would have been relatively minor, and ultimately fixable. However, that does not excuse the those two students for what they did. "I wish you had reported this to one of us, sooner," he said, "but I am glad that you have. I'll be reporting this to the Headmistress." Banni removed his hands from her shoulders and stood up. "The holidays begin soon…" "Yes," he said, "I suppose you'll be staying here?" |

Fera Collis frowned. Not that it was easy to see. "But…" This did wreck her plans. Sure, she did want whoever it was punished, but by HER. Grown-ups had to meddle everything. But, she did know it was for the best, except that Fera wouldn't feel satisfied by it. "I suppose you'll be staying here?" Fera nodded, "Yeah, not like I had much to say on that bit…" She trailed off, sounding rather whiney. "Oh well, by the way," Fera shrugged, "I got to go to the hospital wing, I'm supposed to get new bandages." |
