Welcome to Hogwarts Interactive Role Play, one of the net's best in Harry Potter and Hogwarts role plays. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Here at Hogwarts our students are currently in their Seventh Year. Last year, the war against the Knights crescendoed into a direct attack against the school. Disappearances are still reported (or not) daily, and the Dark Lord and his Knights of Walpurgis have succeeded in spreading their message of "do as thou will" far and wide across the globe. Magical Law Enforcement, which is now the only authority in the wizarding world under Martial Law, has responded by tightening security, controlling the media, and strictly enforcing curfews and other laws. Their control is damaging to the people's freedom, and their hierarchy is a suspicious lot. It is clear that some members of the MLE like their new found power a bit too much, others see it necessary, but all are in serious danger of being consumed by it. But with the picture of just what Azariah Amaranth is after becoming ever clearer, and a third player in the form of a group called SAVIOR entering the scene, what will the MLE do next to ensure that they've got the situation under control?

The Elementium, the Higher Plane that had once been hidden just beyond the veil in the Department of Mysteries, and the Deathly Hallows. The pieces of the puzzle have been identified, but what picture do they make?

Today is Day 1 of Year Seven. Students have had time to recover from the Knight's attack, and are beginning to reluctantly return to the walls of Hogwarts. The safety of the school has been diminished, bringing up the question everyone must ask. Are you safe anywhere these days? It's up to each individual to decide their fate, where will you decide to go?

Banni slowed his gallop into a slow trot, knowing he was close now. Around him, he heard movements, whispers, sounds that to a human would be indistinguishable amidst the myriad of sounds of wind and insects and beasts that filled the dark forest. Dark it was within the forest, dark as always. What little light found its way through the trees was reflected in Bannishtar's eyes, causing them to glow eerily.

The bay centaur continued at a measured pace, not bothering to acknowledge the sounds of activity around him. However, he remained on guard, for the most important bit of knowledge one can have about the dangers of the forest is that the things you hear, the shadows of which you catch a fleeting glimpse or a shifting of a branch caused by their movement, can often mean a presence that is closer than it may appear to be. The watchful eye of his herd was upon him, though as protocol dictated, they would not reveal themselves until he was closer in, unless they thought him a threat that needed to be ambushed before it got any closer to the women and children.

Banni stopped just before a clearing and waited. For several minutes he did not move. And then:

"Bannishtar!" called the voice of Firenze. Moments later the palomino centaur appeared from behind the trees, followed by a half-dozen other male centaurs armed with bows and quivers of arrows--Frienze himself was likewise armed. Like Banni, their eyes glowed with the reflected light they needed to see in the dark. They're bare torsos, heads, and arms were as pale as moonlight, whereas Banni's was tanned to a dark hazelnut color--tantamount to his time out from under the forest canopy.

"You're armed," said Banni, not letting his dismay show in his voice. Conflict between fellow centaurs had been a fairly frequent occurrence in the months proceeding Ronin's death. The circumstances surrounding the herd's former leader, his rallying members of his herd to rebel against human intervention, and his murder at the hands of Delores Umbridge, left many unanswered questions--and worse, Banni feared, many still in a state of unrest even so long after the centaur's lands had been returned to them. Banni did not want to see bloodshed, though he knew that it would eventually come to it if something was not done soon.

"Yes," said Firenze. The blond centaur seemed to realize what Banni was thinking, for he shook his head in a measured manner and said, "No, we haven't been fighting each other."

Banni sighed.

"We've been hunting down more of those foul creatures," Firenze added, "It seems to help unity within the herd when all of us work towards a common goal."

"No surprise there," said Banni, "But how many can there be now? I thought we'd wiped out most of them."

Again, Firenze shook his head.

"They breed like wildfire," said the palomino centaur, "If only a few males and females escape our scourge, they're population recovers within a fortnight." Firenze paused for a moment, then stated with a mixture of awe and confusion, "This is not natural, I tell you. I've never seen a creature of these woods, save for mere mice or insects, that was so resilient. It was almost as if..." Firenze stopped, as if trying to find the words.

"As if these creatures were somehow made to be so? As if there was some purpose for their being here?" said Bannishtar knowingly.

Firenze and the other centaurs looked openly stunned.

The red caps, or what everyone had assumed at first were red caps, had been mostly destroyed by fiendfyre last year, but small groups remained, and the centaur herd of the Forbidden Forest had taken it upon themselves to weed out the remaining horde.

Nearly six months later and Banni was no closer to discovering the origin of these creatures--their appearance in the forest, Ronin's strange behavior, and his murder, as well as that ministry official's attempt to capture Bannishtar...all of this had to be connected somehow.

"You voice what I could only fathom but not express," said Firenze appreciatively, "Tell me: in the time you have spent amongst humans, have you ever heard of such a method as to control the form and attributes of a creature?"

"Yes, actually," said Banni, "It is quite possible to intermingle one or more species together--one of the human race's more meddlesome activities--to create something that is wholly unlike anything seen before in nature. However, there are laws against doing this without sanction."

Instead of being taken aback by this, Firenze and the other centaurs seemed as though their suspicions had been confirmed.

"So do you believe this was the work of humans?" asked Firenze.

"Yes." Banni said plainly, "As I believe that--as I have told you before--Ronin was indeed being truthful in his account of being influenced."

Firenze's face hardened. Around him, the other centaurs murmmered amongst each other.

"We've discussed this," said Firenze in a terse manner, "And while I have no doubt wizards are capable of such an abominable act, I cannot fathom why one would want to influence one of our race in such a manner as to take away his free will. What benefit would it be to the human race?"

"Or what benefit would it be to the individual?" asked Banni, "Perhaps this wizard merely wished to cause a disturbance, and if so, he succeeded. Both our races will be reeling from this incident for years to come...humans perhaps more than us."

Firenze seemed to consider this for a moment, after which he spoke again:

"In any case, Ronin had always harbored a desire to defy our laws and rebel against wizards, thus thrusting our race into the forefront of human events; desires which he'd never made an effort to keep secret. He was a traitor by any count and he was punished all the same."

"Do you truly believe that he got what he deserved," asked Banni, knowing the answer.

"No." said Firenze, "I believe, as you do, that he was an intended target. To much happened that night for all of it to be a coincidence. It remains to be seen however, if we can convince Bane to--"

Firenze stopped. The entire assembly--including Banni--froze at the sound of a howl.

"Its here," said a black-haired centaur, "Just as we expected." His fingers clenched around the wood of his bow. An air of excitement and fear seemed to spread amongst Firenze's company.

"A werewolf?" asked Banni, recognizing the sound. Banni knew that beyond the forest canopy, high above them, the moon shined full and bright.

"Yes," said Firenze, "We've been tracking it. We first heard it about a month ago, during the last full moon. We intend to find and kill it tonight."

"But," Banni protested, "A werewolf is but a weak human every day save for the night of a full moon! It could easily be a villager from Hogsmeade if they come to forest every month, or--"

...or a student, he thought. But would the staff not have known?

"Perhaps," said Firenze with his usual air of measured practicality, "But what would you have us do? It is only a matter of time before it finds our herd, looking for prey, and attacks one of your young, our elders, or our infirm. If it shows up close to us, we would have to kill it anyhow. Better now than in a position where our herd is in danger."

Banni knew he could not argue. Werewolves had been seen and even killed in the forest before. It was never a good thing when one was slain though, even Firenze would agree despite his practical sense. A werewolf has no control when in such a bestial form, and it attacks indescriminately. Even those of the herd who harbored deep resentment towards humans--and not without being somewhat justified, mind--would weep for a man whose fate had led him to be punished for a crime he did not commit, and all because it did not change the fact that it was his body being used to terrorize others.

Banni nodded, and agreed to follow the others as they tracked the beast, fully aware of the dreadful thought that stayed in the back of his mind: Assuming it was a student, then if the staff were not aware of a werewolf among the student body, then perhaps it was just a matter of time. Banni's gut clenched as he wondered what he would do if and when his herd would find the creature, and what he would choose to do in light of what he suspected.
