| Welcome to Hogwarts Interactive Role Play, one of the net's best in Harry Potter and Hogwarts role plays. We hope you enjoy your visit. Here at Hogwarts our students are currently in their Seventh Year. Last year, the war against the Knights crescendoed into a direct attack against the school. Disappearances are still reported (or not) daily, and the Dark Lord and his Knights of Walpurgis have succeeded in spreading their message of "do as thou will" far and wide across the globe. Magical Law Enforcement, which is now the only authority in the wizarding world under Martial Law, has responded by tightening security, controlling the media, and strictly enforcing curfews and other laws. Their control is damaging to the people's freedom, and their hierarchy is a suspicious lot. It is clear that some members of the MLE like their new found power a bit too much, others see it necessary, but all are in serious danger of being consumed by it. But with the picture of just what Azariah Amaranth is after becoming ever clearer, and a third player in the form of a group called SAVIOR entering the scene, what will the MLE do next to ensure that they've got the situation under control? The Elementium, the Higher Plane that had once been hidden just beyond the veil in the Department of Mysteries, and the Deathly Hallows. The pieces of the puzzle have been identified, but what picture do they make? Today is Day 1 of Year Seven. Students have had time to recover from the Knight's attack, and are beginning to reluctantly return to the walls of Hogwarts. The safety of the school has been diminished, bringing up the question everyone must ask. Are you safe anywhere these days? It's up to each individual to decide their fate, where will you decide to go? You're currently viewing our forum as a guest. Addie remained silent, listening to the professor in interest. She quickly scanned the books, trying to pick out the title that would refer to her. Elementium Lux Lucis, that's the one. She nodded to herself, picking up the book and stowing it in her book bag. What was the point really? There wasn't all that much light could do, in her opinion at all. It seemed sort of stupid, then again, she was probably the only gryffindor that was still a little edgy in the dark. She was a wimp, it suited her. Addie nodded to the professor slightly before heading out of the room. |

"Yes, yes, Mr. Ponte du lac. Your water controlling ability is already well known; I saw the fiendfyre warded from the seventh floor." Ian's eyes widened. He didn't think anyone had seen that but Lola. Well, Dave and Addie had seen them come in--well not 'seen' them so much as they were caught in the wave that was created and hurled into a stone wall in the courtyard, but still, Ian knew that Dave was to dense to have pondered the reason for it, and Ian had no reason to fear Addie, nor did he think she would make an assumption of that kind about Ian and his power. Tortal, on the other hand, might realize something suspicious about just how much power it would have taken to control that much water. Ian was, at that moment, frightened that Tortal might realize that someone else shared a place in his mind--and in his powers. It wasn't as though he was truly afraid to have Aunt Julia discovered by anyone, but he didn't want to give Tortal any reason to pry into his business. Aunt Julia had said to seek him out and learn from him what he could, but not to trust him. Ian had no problems remaining incredulous of the Magical Concepts Professor. With a flick of his wand, Tortal sent a rather large book flying over to hover in front of Ian. Ian's expression of shock and worry became one of puzzlement. It looked fairly old, and on the cover was a slightly worn black marking that looked to Ian like a cane or an upside down "L" that had been bent a little: ![]() Now Ian had no idea what this symbol meant, but he assumed it to be an ancient rune--not that he knew anything about ancient runes. What did he look like, a Ravenclaw? Ian looked up at Tortal with confusion, and out of the corner of his eyes saw similarly old books having been levitated in front of Hellius and Addie. "Now, I was going to teach you in person, but I can't hold you from your own time. So please, take these books and read. They will instruct you in words almost as well as I can in person, but you can do it any time and anywhere. Just use your wand, have close to perfect concentration, and use the incantation, Elementium. Once you get good," he paused for a moment, turned towards the flame, raised his right hand, and extended his fingers in different directions. The flame grew dramatically and extended towards the ceiling in a quick recession. Ian stepped back in amazement. Sure, he'd seen Fera show off her fire power whenever she got a mind to, but still, Tortal seemed to have much more control. Tortal turned back to the students. "You can do something like that." Ian placed a tentative hand on the book, as if he thought it might bite him, when nothing happened he placed both hands on it and turned it over so he could see the spine of the book. On it were the words Elementium Aquae in the same worn black velvet as the rune on the cover. Leaning back towards his desk, Charles crossed his arms. "Take the book and you're dismissed," he said. But Ian stood there. A question on his mind. He decided it best to ask: "Excuse me, sir," he said in a terse manner, trying to hide just how much intimidation and distaste Tortal instilled in him, "Why are you teaching us this? Didn't you say it was illegal? Why risk your job just to instruct us on this power?" ((OOC: For reference, the rune shown above is the Celtic rune "laguz" meaning water or leek. According to Fera, it is also known as Logr. Thanks Fera!)) |

With a nod, Tortal had confirmed for Fera that she did have a ability. At least that was something. But why did it have to be fire? She looked at the book she had just recieved, Still, I'm not going to waste it. No matter how ironic and cruell that joke is. It might save my life. She looked at the symbol, it confused her abit.![]() Without a blink, she looked to the side it was pointing, and her eye widened when she saw Tortal demonstrate with the fire. He was definatly much, much better than her, he had real controll, not just some degrees like Fera. She looked back to her book, as a flush ran up her face, not that anyone could see it through her bandages. When she squinted again towards the book, now holding it quite close to her face, she noticed a small 'x', straight infront of the first symbol. X < for...? She glanced over at the text 'Elementium Fero'. She blinked, and reread. Fero... Fera... It didn't really suprise her, she did know what her name meant, but it still freaked her out. |

Charles kept his arms crossed and looked back to Ian as he asked another question. This was a good one, and while the Ministry didn't exactly want this to be taught, the Professor didn't care. "The Ministry simply wants to keep a cap on all the things that they do not comprehend. They have yet to step into the means to learn what these powers' limitations are and what is possible for accomplishment. This is the workings behind my mind, Mr. Ponte du Lac. The things I teach you are capable to make you better a better wizard, and because of that, you'll be able to accomplish more when you are fully grown. I may seem like an insensitive son of a banshee, Mr. Ponte du Lac, but 99.9 percent of the things I do are for the good of the students; whether it be punishment, or positive encouragement. The Ministry does nothing to which they have no foothold. And for the luck of everyone, Hogwarts is a place they can't completely rule." Raising his left fist to the bottom of his chin, Charles pushed against the chin and leaned it to an angle. His neck cracked. "Does that answer your question?" |

Ian listened intently to Tortal, his eyes locked with the Professor's. "Does that answer your question?" "Y-yes sir." Ian had to admit, the man made sense. How many times had Ian born witness to the Ministry's policy of keeping down whatever they did not understand, or could not control? Ian's entire family was in the ministry, and he'd seen everything from the oppression of house-elves in his own home, to the anti-werewolf legislation his step-brother was now proposing. It seemed, then, that Ian had reached an understand of Tortal. Ian's opinion of politicians had been made from what he saw in Alphonse: a conniving, brown-nosing little git who spent his every waking moment at the Minister's feet, begging for any scrap of power that his master might throw him, or otherwise doing everything in his power to keep his precious scraps from being taken away from him, fearing all enemies both seen and unseen, barking at shadows on the wall like a scared hound--the drooling lap dog for his masters. Ian wondered how little of an opportunity Alphonse would have to have presented to him in order for him to bite at his own master's throat...It seemed Tortal could relate to Ian's view of politicians. However, Aunt Julia's warning had been well understood: "He is worthy of your respect, and your attention, but not of your trust. Remember that." Quickly, Ian stuffed the rather large book into his pack, muttered a goodbye to everyone in the room and left for the Great Hall. |
