| Welcome to Hogwarts Interactive Role Play, one of the net's best in Harry Potter and Hogwarts role plays. We hope you enjoy your visit. Here at Hogwarts our students are currently in their Seventh Year. Last year, the war against the Knights crescendoed into a direct attack against the school. Disappearances are still reported (or not) daily, and the Dark Lord and his Knights of Walpurgis have succeeded in spreading their message of "do as thou will" far and wide across the globe. Magical Law Enforcement, which is now the only authority in the wizarding world under Martial Law, has responded by tightening security, controlling the media, and strictly enforcing curfews and other laws. Their control is damaging to the people's freedom, and their hierarchy is a suspicious lot. It is clear that some members of the MLE like their new found power a bit too much, others see it necessary, but all are in serious danger of being consumed by it. But with the picture of just what Azariah Amaranth is after becoming ever clearer, and a third player in the form of a group called SAVIOR entering the scene, what will the MLE do next to ensure that they've got the situation under control? The Elementium, the Higher Plane that had once been hidden just beyond the veil in the Department of Mysteries, and the Deathly Hallows. The pieces of the puzzle have been identified, but what picture do they make? Today is Day 1 of Year Seven. Students have had time to recover from the Knight's attack, and are beginning to reluctantly return to the walls of Hogwarts. The safety of the school has been diminished, bringing up the question everyone must ask. Are you safe anywhere these days? It's up to each individual to decide their fate, where will you decide to go? You're currently viewing our forum as a guest. He groaned audibly, "Tell me about it. I can't believe they postponed Quidditch! Ah well, tonight eh? You psyched?" He never felt any of the usual tension when talking to Emma like he sometimes did when talking to other noticeably attractive girls. With Nat or Savvy, for instance, there was always this voice in the back of his head telling him to impress them. Yet with Emma he didn't. It made things much simpler. |

Emma's eyes lit up, and she was noticeably excited. "Of course I'm psyched!" She flexed her arm muscle playfully and giggled, for she knew that for such a petite girl, she was quite strong and could carry her own weight easily. "I'm excited to surprise everything. I know I'm tiny and blond, but, wait until they see me on a broom." Her notes slipped from her lap and she sighed, leaving them on the floor for a moment. What could did they do her? Picking them up after groaning, she couldn't help but roll her eyes and slap them on her thighs lazily, not caring much about them anymore. Talking about Quidditch pumped up her adrenaline - she was incredibly excited to prove everyone wrong. |

Summer frowned at Laurel, her forehead marked by a small crease. She was beginning to feel resentful towards the fellow Gryffindor and even a tiny bit jealous. Summer opened her mouth to speak several times as Emma and Laurel exchanged spites. Yes, she was definitely beginning to dislike Laurel. Summer felt the urge to stand up for Emma several times, but quickly backed down. There was something about Laurel that made her stay quiet and feel intimidated. Summer waved and forced a smile upon her face as Emma walked across to the other side of the room. She regretted not standing up for her more but, then again, would anything she said make a difference? Anyways, Summer did feel a bit of envy towards Laurel...she was beautiful, not doubt about it, but she also had a surge of confidence about her, which was something Summer lacked greatly. Without a second thought, Summer took out her notes and informed the two girls sitting next to her, "Er..I'm going to study a bit now, too. Divination is pretty much my worst subject..." Summer pretended to be absorbed in the notes she had carelessly scribbled in the previous lessons when, actually, she wasn't reading at all. Summer knew that no matter how much she studied, she would still be horrible at Divination. Nevertheless, she would do anything to forget about Laurel. Summer still felt guilty about not saying anything to her and, even worse, agreeing with her. Summer had the utmost amount of respect and admiration for Banni and knew he probably had a reasonable explanation for why he was so late. |

Laurel observed Summer's testy attitude with an inward sigh. She wasn't trying to be mean to Emma at all, although she knew that was what the girl sitting beside her thought. None the less, she wasn't about to correct her. If Summer wanted to believe that Laurel was the big bad wolf of Gryffindor, then fine, she could think that. Because in the end, she knew what she had meant, and if she had really wanted to be mean, it was have been easy. Summer herself was an easy picking. But for now, she'd let her be. "Alright, best of luck," Laurel said with a tight smile. She was probably feeling guilty about agreeing about Bannishtar, so she let it slide. Not a stupid girl, she knew Summer was doing pretty much the antithesis of studying. "Well, it was lovely meeting you all," she nodded to them, including the girl whose name she had not gotten. Oh well...there was always later. Typically, Laurel liked to know everyone's name. It was a good habit to make, because it always paid off later. "I, for one, need to visit the powder room," she commented with a smirk, because really, maybe she'd go to the bathroom, but she sure as hell wasn't coming back to that classroom. No teacher upon arrival, whether he was doing something important or not, and the fact that she was getting bored, both made her choose to skip the rest of the class. It wasn't as if she couldn't get the notes off of someone else, eventually. And when asked why she left class, she could always claim bad cramps or something...the advantages of being a female. She blew a kiss to those in the room before walking out of the classroom, hips swaying with each excited step to get the hell out of there. Now...where to go? |

Remembering a few incidents yesterday involving EMma and Xander he was curious what the situation was between them as he needed his team focused and not worrying about their love lifes. If the two weren't speaking it could be fatal on the pitch. "Umm...if you don't mind me asking, how are you and Xander? I only ask because your both on the team tonight. Is everything cool there?" |

Summer forced yet another smile upon her face as Laurel bid them farewell. She hadn't meant to put the girl off by forcing upon her the impression that she thought the girl was rude or mean. In fact, Summer had almost the exact opposite opinion of Laurel. In one way, Summer admired her and even felt a slight bit jealous of her. It was just that she hated the girl's haughty and condescending manner, which were both traits she hated in almost everybody who showed those certain qualities. Maybe it was because Summer herself lacked those traits, but it definitely wasn't anything personal or aimed only towards Laurel. Nevertheless, Summer knew she could never be friends with a girl like Laurel, so why even try? Summer smiled and waved goodbye, still pretending to be absorbed in her notes even though she knew she was doing a poor job. At that moment, she had forgotten all about the Ravenclaw girl, Val, sitting next to her. Summer wished dearly that Banni would come in and start the class already. She wanted nothing but to get out of the classroom and find a distraction to take her mind off of all the crap she seemed to be getting herself into lately. Who knew, maybe a distraction would come to her. |

Emma's cheeks turned pink. She looked down. Immediately she imagined sending a bludger his way, but she thought of the unused classroom...with a polite smile, she said, "We're not together. Obviously. But it won't effect the team in anyway...we're sort of, cordial." Emma smirked, thinking. Were they? Around people, he didn't really acknowledge her. It was just when they were...alone. Typical boy. "Sort of." Em leaned against the tree and sighed, rolling her eyes, and then smiling. "How about you? Any ladies in your life?" Playfully punching Tristan's arm, she giggled and pushed Xander out of her mind. The two cared about Quidditch too much to let their foolish "fight" get in the way of a victory for Ravenclaw. |

Tristan nodded as he listened, pleased at what she said about the pair. "Me? Well..." His mind immediately wandered to Addie and their colourful adventures the previous year thanks to Julian, to Nat whom he had had feelings for the moment he laid eyes on her, to Savvy who he had kissed over the holidays. "It's complicated." Tris pulled his knees up closer to himself as it was quite cold in the classroom, "Let's just say I'm on the market for the time being." He grinned in that silly way he tended to, "Maybe you and me should shack up for a bit, make a few people jealous and score someone that way." |

Emma giggled, playing with the tips of her long, blond hair. She couldn't help but roll her eyes at Tristan. "Everything's complicated now a days." She smirked, pretending to flip through her notes. Then, she looked up very suddenly. "Shack up for a bit?" Her cheeks turned pink, and she giggled again, her eyes wide. "Let me weigh the pros and cons..." Her voice trailed off playfully, and she put a hand beneath her chin. "I always do stir up a bit of trouble, anyway. What's the point of living without a bit of fun?" She arched an eyebrow, and punched Tristan playfully again, more because she lacked anything better to do. Emma had to admit, she was always a bit charming, even if she didn't intend to be. |

OOC/Im not sure how many people talked to me, so I'll just round up things and guess who did BIC/As more and more girls; and now a boy; joined Valora and the newly met Summer in the beautiful classroom, Val found herself rather flustered. Of course nobody knew about her sexuality because of her quietness around the school for the past few years. All these good looking girls hanging around her made her blush; she looked down at the table and twiddled her thumbs before blurting out to whomever was around, "Oh I'm Val!" She wasn't sure who had approached or talked to her, but either way that got the point accross. Her mind was too busy thinking about the people around her; especially as she couldn't help staring into the eyes of Emma, who had just pronounced her name. Of couse this stopped once her another one of her fellow housemates entered, another Ravenclaws; this time a male. He began to create some mindless chatter with Emma. Val grimaced and coughed loudly. |

Paisley walked in, her messenger bag swinging against her leg. Her low heels clacked slightly on the floor. There was a flurry of introductions going on inside the Divination classroom, but no professor of yet. I saw this coming, she thought ironically. Having no intention of making a million introductions - a waste of breath, no one remembers names the first time anyway - Paisley simply took a seat in neutral waters, near Summer, whom she had formally met this morning, though briefly, and near all of her fellow Ravenclaws. Setting her bag on the floor, she reached a slender hand into the bag and promptly realized she had left her book in the dormitory. Damn. Raising her brown eyes to look over the desks of the other students, she realized that very few had books; if the professor never showed, there would be no need anyway. She sighed. A class is only as good as its book or professor. Then again, what good is divination anyway? She leaned back in her chair and listened in on the chatter, ears honed for her name but not expecting its sound to come. |

Xander entered the classrroom quietly, hoping that Bannishtar was not in the room yet. He took a seat in the back and leaned on the seat gently. He could only see a few people so far, mostly girls, some which he could recognize. He also noticed Emma talking to Tristan which was a sort of a surprise. He hadn't seen him in a while. He waved solemnly to him gently before looking at Emma. He wanted to say something, but as always, he couldn't find the words he wanted to say to her. He looked around to see the other people in the room. There was another fellow Ravenclaw who arrived just as he did. There was another Ravenclaw, who he felt was a bit..oddly dressed for the occasion. Bannishtar would obviously say something about it after his lecture on another boring subject. There was of course a Gryffindor girl in there. He remembered that Gryffindors and Ravenclaws were now taking classes together and not every house. At least it wasn't Slytherin. He wouldn't have to hear Tinsley whine the whole time.. |

Bannishtar entered the room, not really attempting to appear natural, as it was obvious he was very late. The fact that he was armed with his bow and quiver of arrows didn't help the matter, nor did the fresh cut across his left cheek. There had been a fight. Firenze and Bane no longer seemed to be able to lead, and even the two of them seemed to be at each others throats often. Banni attempted to perform the duties of a mediator, but with little success. If events were to continue the way they have been, then a crisis worse than that of last year wouldn't be inconceivable. Banni sighed as he set down his weapons. The centaur stepped closer to the assembled students, looking quite weathered and beaten. The centaur spoke, his deep voice--usually quite full of wisdom and energy--was now rather tired-sounding: "Good morning class. I do apologize for my lateness." he said, "Now...if you remember, we reviewed last year's work, and went more in depth into the theory of scrying. You should recall that there are several symbols, called 'archetypes', that are known to us only subconsciously. To put it simply, these symbols are the gateway of the mind to a greater understanding of our world. Look above you." The centaur raised his hand to the ceiling, and instantly the stars in the sky began to move rapidly, the planets seemed to move out of the way as the billions of twinkling light formed a constellation, but not a natural constellation. Before the class' eyes, the stars had formed a proportionally correct, perfect golden spiral: ![]() "This," began the centaur. It seemed as though sharing his knowledge seemed to energize him, and some of the wisdom and spirituality of his voice and manner seemed to return to him. "Is Phi. I'm sure by now you know all of the information about it by heart. It is the golden spiral, the standard upon which life is based. All life conforms to the rule. In fact, one may see archetypes as the "rules" of life. However, Phi is only one of many archetypes that exist as original models from which all the laws of our universe are derived from. We'll start with one that you may be familiar with. Observe." Banni raised his hand once again, and this time, the many billions of light rearranged themselves, forming another symbol: A long staff with two serpents coiled around it. Caduceus. ![]() "This symbol is known by many as caduceus. The symbol appears in almost every culture, magical or non-magical, and is generally associated with medicine. Can anyone tell me where they may have seen a symbol similar to this? Furthermore, can anyone take a guess as to WHY such a symbol would appear in multiple cultures that may have not had any contact with each other?" ((OOC: This is for house points, and multiple people can answer, as there are many answers to this one. But I want good answers. Try looking it up on the internet to find out where the symbol might have appeared in certain mythologies and cultures)) |

Laurel had gotten bored even outside of class, and after wandering aimlessly for a while, she figured that she might as well head back to Divination -- surely, even it, would be more interesting, or at least distracting. She walked lazily back into the classroom and flashed the professor a smile, seeing that he was there. "I was just powdering my nose," she explained airily as she walked over to an empty table, and took her seat. She had caught his last question -- the, oh what did he call it? Caduceus. That thing with the snakes. "It's makes several appearances in Greek mythology," Laurel said, raising her hand. "It was Hermes staff, among other things." She turned her attention to her bag sitting beside her, and pulled out some parchment and a quill. While she was here, Laurel thought, she might as well take some notes. Glancing up at the celing, she copied the drawing and wrote what it was. So she'd be missing the first half of the notes. Oh well. |

Summer looked up from her notes as Banni walked into the classroom, fully armed with his bow and arrows with a cut across his cheek. He appeared to be incredibly tired and unlike his usual wise and energetic self. Summer frowned and bit her lower lip at the sight. What could have caused Bannishtar to become like this? Summer tried to take notes as Banni shared with the class his knowledge. She didn't fully understand half of the things he was saying, but a huge idea hit her when Banni mentioned caduceus. Summer hurriedly raised her hand when Banni asked them where they may have seen the symbol before. She was excited that she finally knew the answer to one of the centaur's well thought out questions; so excited, in fact, that she nearly knocked over the ink bottle sitting in front of her. Summer heaved a sigh of relief as she caught the bottle in the nick of time. She didn't want to spill the ink and resort to borrowing a spare bottle from someone else, especially because she had spilled the ink all over her robes just the previous day. Summer smiled at Laurel as she walked back into the classroom, but doubted that Laurel would notice her after the incident with Emma. "Well, as you said, this symbol appears in many different cultures. I believe I've seen that same symbol as the basis for the Astrological symbol representing the planet Mercury in Antiquity. And, as Laurel said, it was also carried by the Greek god Hermes, or the messenger of the gods." Summer bit her lower lip in anticipation. She was horrible at Divination and she knew it, so it was very unlikely that her answer was correct. |

Paisley cocked an eyebrow as their professor trotted into the room. Maybe class will be more interesting than usual. As the professor began to speak, she quietly withdrew a piece of parchment and a quill from her bag. Ink spattered across her hands as the nib of the quill broke off suddenly -damn! She rummaged for another, but couldn't find one. Frowning, she glanced around, but then the professor began to speak, and so she simply listened. It wasn't really necessary for her to take notes - her memory was impeccable when it came to listening or reading. However, taking notes kept her mind from wandering too far. It doesn't help when the visual is so shiny... Paisley blinked, realizing the professor had just asked a question. She gleaned what she could from the answers of the other students, then spoke herself, her voice low, melodic, and ironic. "The muggles were a little confused when they made that call," she added to Summer's comment. "Hermes had no relation to medicine or health - that was Asclepius, the god of health. Hermes was, among other things, one of the death-gods, in that he sometimes escorted souls to Hades. Asclepius had a staff with only one snake, and no wings. Close, but not quite right." She had heard it on Jeopardy once when she was watching it with her father. Once heard, never lost... she sometimes wondered if she were really stupider than people thought, because she just retained facts and could spit them out at will. Postulation...that was the tough part for her. |

Summer nodded in agreement with as Paisley continued the discussion and took Summer's comment to a new level. Summer remembered passing the giant hourglasses on her way to class. Gryffindor was in third place now behind Ravenclaw, which wasn't nearly good enough. Summer shut her eyes and tried to remember everything she had ever heard about Asclepius; they needed all the extra points they could grasp. Summer's eyes snapped open and she sat up straight. She had just remembered about Asclepius something and this time she didn't even bother raising her hand. Summer doubted that her new found knowledge had anything to do with their original topic, the Caduceus. Nevertheless, it was worth a try, right? "Lee's right. It's true that Hermes had no relation to medicine, healing or anything else of that sort. Muggles argue that the caduceus is appropriate as a symbol of medicine since apologists suggest that the sign is appropriate for military medical personnel." Summer's voice trailed off as she tried to remember more. She was on a roll today and knew she couldn't stop there. Thinking harder than she had ever thought before in this forest of a classroom, Summer hesitantly added, "Further confusion between the two symbols was caused when caduceus was used as a printer's mark, as Hermes was the messenger of the gods. The symbol appeared in many medical textbooks and was often mistaken as the medical symbol." Summer didn't know what had gotten into her. She was making more of an effort to remember these small little details than ever before. Usually, Summer thought Divination to be a pretty much useless, boring class. But now, she had a new outlook on it. Summer was fascinated by this new knowledge and all her previous frustration with the class vanished. Rambling on and on about these unfamiliar topics was Summer's way of getting rid of the stress and anger stored in her. The past few days had been crappy, no doubt about it, and Summer was just looking for a way out. And she had found a way out: rambling on about something she supposedly didn't give a damn about. |

Banni smiled. One of the advantages of his class was that knowledge gathered from various points in the students' lives could be applied here. The two Gryffindor Girls, Laurel and Summer, had just proven that. However, there were holes in the girls' explanations, which he meant to fill with his knowledge, but a Ravenclaw girl spoke up: "Hermes had no relation to medicine or health - that was Asclepius, the god of health,' said the girl in a low voice. She seemed to enjoy letting the other two know the whole facts. Banni supposed that was a trait of Ravenclaws, "Hermes was, among other things, one of the death-gods, in that he sometimes escorted souls to Hades. Asclepius had a staff with only one snake, and no wings. Close, but not quite right." Banni was quite impressed with her knowledge, and with the knowledge of Miss Nielson, who began to name off a history of the symbol that Banni had no knowledge of (him having had little knowledge of more recent muggle use of the symbol in their cultures). "Very interesting answers, and I would like to let you all know that three of you are all correct," said Banni, "So 25 points for Gryffindor and 10 points for Ravenclaw." Banni cleared his throat and continued. "It is true that healing is generally associated with the staff of Ascelpius, not of Hermes. But both symbols are derived from the archetype kerykeion, which is another word for Caduceus. The kerykeion is a symbol of balance by itself. "Recall that last year you learned that the planet mercury is a symbol of commerce. Now, can anyone tell me what god is the Greek counterpart of Mercury?" |

Thank you, learning Latin in primary school... Paisley spoke up again, "Hermes was the relative equivalent of Mercury. His association with the kerykeion -" she stumbled a bit over the word, but didn't let it stop her "-makes sense, because he does represent balance, in a way. He carried messages between gods and humans, demonstrating the balance of the heaven and earth, and helped souls in their journey from life to death, in which the balance is obvious enough." Paisley paused, then added one more comment. "He especially helped Persephone, queen of the underworld, in her travels down and back from Hades." More than he asked for, but that can't be bad...at least answering the questions keeps me focused. She wrinkled her nose momentarily, glancing around the room. It was a lot to say in one breath. It was fairly unusual for her to speak so freely. But if I know what I'm talking about...why not? |

Banni, impressed again at the girl who seemed to know her facts, nodded. "That is all correct. 5 points for Ravenclaw. And a very astute observation, I should add." Banni continued, "Balance is key to both life and business, and so this is why The Rod of Hermes, The Rod of Acelpius, and the symbol Libra--representing justice--are all derived from Kerykeion." Banni once again raised his hand to the ceiling, and the stars rearranged themselves to form, of all things, a mundane-looking clock: ![]() "Twelve around One," Banni said, "Perhaps the most subliminal and difficult to recognize, yet most common archetype you will learn of. It is the symbol of our very physical existence. The twelve around one pattern is the model of the third dimension. These twelve cones spiral around the center, formal a whole plane of existence--ours." The stars rearranged once again, now forming twelve multicolored cones. The cones began to move, spiraling around the center as Banni had explained. Together, they formed a three-dimensional object: ![]() "Because we exist on this plane, and our minds tuned to the frequency of the third dimension, we can experience emotions and communicate to each other on such a level...BUT, we cannot properly perceive the information of higher planes, because of the higher frequency at which they operate. A seer has the ability to temporarily 'tune' themselves to a higher frequency, beyond that of emotions or feelings, to see the world as it is. What information that manage to bring back with them is called a 'vision' or a 'prophecy'. And if the class remembers it's lessons from last year, the stance in which one attempts to temporarily break free of the third-dimensional plane is known as Merkabah in the Hebrew language." Banni demonstrated the Merkabah meditation stance, his legs folded beneath him. For a human to perform this, they would merely cross their legs--it was the same as a meditation stance most should be familiar with. Banni had taught this last year. The centaur stood back up. "The Merkabah is also an archetype. It represents the higher plane of consciousness I spoke of. "So, for house points, who can tell me where they may have seen an example of Twelve around One. Think carefully, as it is an abstract concept that has been applied to art, architecture, and religion as well being seen in nature. Also, can anyone tell me what the Hebrew word 'Merkabah' means?" |
