Read Today's Daily Prophet: Knights of Walpurgis attack Hogwarts; Belleford steps down as Hogwarts closes until further notice
Welcome to Hogwarts Interactive Role Play, one of the net's best in Harry Potter and Hogwarts role plays. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Here at Hogwarts our students are currently in their Seventh Year. Last year, the war against the Knights crescendoed into a direct attack against the school. Disappearances are still reported (or not) daily, and the Dark Lord and his Knights of Walpurgis have succeeded in spreading their message of "do as thou will" far and wide across the globe. Magical Law Enforcement, which is now the only authority in the wizarding world under Martial Law, has responded by tightening security, controlling the media, and strictly enforcing curfews and other laws. Their control is damaging to the people's freedom, and their hierarchy is a suspicious lot. It is clear that some members of the MLE like their new found power a bit too much, others see it necessary, but all are in serious danger of being consumed by it. But with the picture of just what Azariah Amaranth is after becoming ever clearer, and a third player in the form of a group called SAVIOR entering the scene, what will the MLE do next to ensure that they've got the situation under control?

The Elementium, the Higher Plane that had once been hidden just beyond the veil in the Department of Mysteries, and the Deathly Hallows. The pieces of the puzzle have been identified, but what picture do they make?

Today is Day 1 of Year Seven. Students have had time to recover from the Knight's attack, and are beginning to reluctantly return to the walls of Hogwarts. The safety of the school has been diminished, bringing up the question everyone must ask. Are you safe anywhere these days? It's up to each individual to decide their fate, where will you decide to go?

Summer nodded in agreement with her two friends. "Uh huh, same here. I'm just so glad to be away from the house," Summer admitted, rolling her eyes. She giggled with Rosalind as Kiki sniffed her parchment.

"She's right, Kiki! You do look ridiculous!" Summer exclaimed, trying hard not to laugh. Then, on a more serious note, she added, "Gosh, I hope we don't have too much of a difficult lesson today. I'm still horrible at things we learned last year," Summer complained.

Just then, a Gryffindor whom Summer recognized as the girl she had met earlier, burst into the room asking about Bannishtar's whereabouts.

"Hey Fera," Summer said, trying not to sound too cheerful as she knew the girl hated that. "No idea where he is. He wasn't here when we came in," she said, looking around to see if anyone else had seen the centaur.

Fera spat on the floor, just out of habit, then turned and left. If Banni wasn't there, she didn't see the need to stay.

Ben marched into the room at an all-mighty speed, he looked around, Bannishtar was not present yet the room was busy; this was Ben's perfect chance to tell them about what he had seen. He strode up to the front of the class.

"Guys, listen!" Ben said, yet two giggling Gryffindors continued to giggle and laugh, "Holy Cheesburgers! Shut up!" Ben scowled; while sticking his tounge out, before clapping his hands to get the attention of the class.

"You'll never guess what I just saw!" He exclaimed like a toddler; but almost a tumbleweed scene followed, "A leprechaun in the grounds, A leprechaun!" The Still Toddler-Like Hufflepuff shouted.

OOC - Btw for plot purposes only Riley will belive him, please :P :) you can if you like but most people wont.

Summer just shrugged as Fera left the classroom. She thought about leaving as well, since there was no point in being in a classroom if there wasn't going to be any class. Just then, Ben barged into the classroom, screaming at them.

After Summer listened quietly to Ben's story, she tried as hard as she could to stop from laughing. Then she remembered that Ben wasn't his normal self at the moment and said in a soft, kind voice, "Um...listen, Ben....Maybe you should get some rest, it's been a long day for you," Summer suggested. She hoped Ben wouldn't be too mad. However, if Ben was going to act like a toddler, he should be treated like a toddler.

Emma listened to the girls, smiling and nodding along with them. She was certainly intrigued by Katriane, who was also French - Em was just doing her best to seem nice, open, friendly, and...well...the opposite of what she was at the moment.

Ignoring Tinsley's glares and the urge to shoot a glance towards Xander, she blinked at Ben. She had to remind herself that he was not at all in the proper state of mind. Whatever was bothering him must be quite severe - he seemed to be in the clouds most days. "Leprechauns?..." She tried not to laugh. Agreeing with Summer, she finally turned and stared straight at Tinsley, who had crossed her arms, an angry look on her face. She seemed...jealous.

But of what?

Wynn rushed into the Divination classroom, hoping he wasn't late. But when he got in, he noticed that Bannishtar was absent. He grinned and took a seat on his own. Even after the past three years, Wynston hadn't met anybody interesting. He was mostly one to keep to himself, let them approach him. He didn't like to start conversations; it was too risky. He didn't know if they would just leave, or if they would keep talking. So, he found it better to play it safe. Hearing crickets chirping, Wynn huddled into a small corner and began to take out his things. He looked at a Hufflepuff boy in a large group of girls, shouting about a leprechaun. Insane.

Wynn looked around, anxious for the lesson to begin, and pulled out a book. He then opened it and began to read.

OOC: The book is New Moon by Stephenie Meyer, lol.

The sounds of hooves upon stone echoed throughout the halls--two sets of four. Banni's voice also echoed, it was loud, and he sounded a bit angry:

"...honestly, Bane, you are quite persistent to follow me all the way into the castle, but as it stands I cannot help!"

Another voice, equally as deep as Banni's, but more gruff, also a bit angry, "But do you not care, Bannishtar? The whole of the herd is in disarray. The scars of what had happened with the Ministry and their accursed decrees run deep--and Firenze undermines me at every turn!"

Banni was quieter now, only if one was near the door and listening intently could they hear: "Bane, I understand and I want to help, you must know that I do. However, I do not see how getting a third party involved would help the matter--the herd is divided enough."

"But, Bannishtar--"

"If you want to know what I think;" Banni sounded a bit more forceful now with a tone almost scornful, "I believe you are both mistaken. Now if you please, I have charges to look after. You should get back to yours."

The sound of hooves hitting the floor just at the door.

"You..." Bane growled. Now Bane sounded furious. Banni expected this, for the black centaur must have believed Banni would agree with him--or at least bring some kind of decision to the argument, "You would leave your own kind to fall into chaos for their sake?"

Now Banni raised his voice, indignantly, "I do believe that seven years ago I was banished--why call upon me now? And do not accuse me of discrimination. What you fail to understand, Bane, is that we cannot afford to stay secluded from the rest of the world. We have done so for centuries, but the world has changed--changed beyond our notice because we chose not to see it. What I do is for all our sakes. I seek to make changes in the minds of my charges--to open their eyes beyond what their misguided ancestors knew, so that they may not repeat the same mistakes. Perhaps you should try to do the same for yours...or nothing will ever change."

There was no answer from Bane, only a low growl and the stamping of hooves growing quieter and quieter. Bane had left for the forest. Banni sighed, glad that Bane had not wanted to argue further. Perhaps this was a sign that he saw merit in Banni's words? Whatever the case, Banni was already late for his own class.

It took a moment for Banni's eyes to adjust to the darkness when he entered. He had actually just been to the forbidden forest, so he'd gone from light to darkness, to light, and back to darkness. He wondered if that would turn out to be very bad for his eyes. When his vision adjusted to the relative darkness of his classroom, he noted, as expected, that most of his class was already assembled.

The centaur's face had none of the anger he'd had when arguing with Bane. Instead, it was as warm and friendly as it usually was. His eyes were wide with a seeming child-like curiosity--a curiosity that had caused him to be banished from his herd--but his form and manner expressed wisdom beyond his years--for his human friends and students always seem to forget (whether by his wisdom or by his shear size) that he was actually a very young centaur. Banni could not be sure (for centaurs count their years the same as they account for the happenings of the world: through the sun and stars), but he thought that even young Professor Taylor Nicole Stuart was older than he.

Banni had his bow and quiver full of arrows--he set those down against a tree. The quiver was half full--he'd had to fire several shots, but he chose not to think about that.

"Good afternoon, everyone," he greeted warmly.

The scars do run deep, he thought. Thought it was difficult to see in the sparse lighting, Banni now had several scars of his own--in addition to the ones across his chest from that gruesome beating he'd received before he'd been kicked out of his herd all those years ago: A scar now ran from the bottom of his left ribs to his pelvis from where he'd been stabbed and cut by the blade of one of those vile creatures. There was a long scar on both of his left legs--front and back--where no hair grew. They still pained him sometimes, as the cut had gone into the joint and the cartilage. It was his shame he'd been taken out of the battle last year by that wound, but he would wear the scars with pride.

"Now I suppose we should start with a little review," Banni pointed straight to the ceiling, at the model of the solar system, "Who can tell me what each of the nine planets are and what they mean. How about any of the archetypes we had studied last year? Can anyone name any of them and what they represent? What is the definition of 'archetype' as it pertains to Divination?--now don't answer them all at once, give someone else a chance."

((OOC: Only one answer per post, but if you can post after someone else posts. LOL, Lightning round house-pointage!)

Emma looked up suddenly as Bannishtar entered the room, warm and inviting. Emma immediatley felt comfortable, which was odd - usually, she detested all forms of animals, but she knew Banni was much, much more than that. His eyes brightened with curiosity, a thirst for knowledge that Em could relate to. Quickly, Banni had her attention and respect - drowning out all other thought, she listened carefully to all of his words, intensity in her eyes.

In reply to his answer, she sat up very straight, her hand raised high above her head. Smiling, she said, "Well, each of the nine planets...Mars, Venus, Mercury, Pluto, Jupter, Neptune, Uranus and Saturn...Mars is the bringer of war, Venus is...the end of difficulty, Mercury represents...fortune, Pluto represents abundance and suffering, at the same time. Like, if one person suffers, another does not, it balances out..." Her brow scrunched as she bit her lip. She knew the answers, she just had to think..."Jupiter is a symbol for power. Neptune embodies deceit, while Uranus represents a great revolution. Saturn also represents time." Thinking about her answers momentarily, she finally smiled confidently. Her cheeks began to turn pink as she waited for Banni's reply anxiously.

It's cute that everyone thinks they can be a queen, but remember who came FIRST.

Rolling her eyes, Tinsley listened to Emma rattle of answers and rolled her eyes. She sighed, placing a hand on her hip, and walked behind Xander, coming up behind him and slyly running her fingers across his back as she walked past, her nails grazing his shirt. She stopped and turned to him, a smirk on her face as she said, "Bon jour, mon ami," She smiled sweetly, all traces of her smirk gone. Emanating a kind of cold, sending chills up spines, she turned her head to watch Banni reply to Emma's incessant blushing and babbling.

Banni was surprised--quite pleasantly--to find that someone had actually paid attention to his lessons last year.

"Good. Very good. Ten points to Ravenclaw," he said, "Anyone else?"

Tinsley cleared her throat, her eyes intense as she smirked. "As for the archetypes, Professor, there was the first - Phi. It is the most important, as all living things coincide with it." For a moment, she was slightly stunned. Never had she paid attention to Divination - it was as though this knowledge was already engraved in her mind. Clearing her throat, she said, "It's a rule that all things live by, and a spiral shape - such as a chambered nautilus...It concerns the order of all things, coinciding with mathmatical...expressions, or ratios, or something like that." She visibly thought, wondering whether more explanation was needed. She couldn't seem to remember much more than that - but then again, she hardly remembered learning this in any lesson. "It is the symbol for movement...the movement of consciousness, rather." Glancing at Xander, she smiled arrogantly at Banni for a moment, obviously rather pleased with herself. However, she was a bit surprised with herself - How did I know that? Hmm. Maybe I'm smarter than I give myself credit for.

Ella ran across the entrance hall, livid at herself. She had fallen asleep in the common room during lunch, causing her to miss COMC alltogether and be late for Divination. While she didn't exactly like either of the classes (Ella had never been overly fond of animals, and most of what Bannishtar said in Divination flew over her head...or rather, she failed to catch it while her famously short attention span caused her to day dream) she still didn't think this was an ideal way to start off the year...

She slid into the room, hoping to go unnoticed-however, seeing as whenever the door opened a small sliver of light escaped into the almost pitch-black classroom, she doubted that the teacher wouldn't see her.

She sat down, not bothering to see who it was she was next to and took out her quill, ink, and parchment, figuring that she might as well look as if she was paying attention if nothing else...

Again Banni was pleasantly shocked to find someone else to seemingly have paid attention last year.

"Good, good," said Banni, "Though not a complete answer. Phi, or the Golden Spiral is a mathematical archetype which represents order in the world--in fact, it is the order of the world. For instance, the ratio of the size of your arm to the size of your forearm, as well as the ratio of males to females in any population, are the same: One and six-hundred-and-eighteen thousandths. It is, in fact, the very the very nature of an archetype: They are representations of our existence, the very rules to which all life adheres. This is why divination is possible: We can look at these predetermined patterns and come up with a conclusion. Human Diviners attempt to fill it with farcical mysticism, but in all actuality it is just a matter of discovering patterns and drawing conclusions.

"Well,
five points for Slytherin, in any case."

Wynn perked up at the mention of Archetypes. He raised his hand and spoke. "Professor, Archetypes are what you look for when scrying. They're difficult to see, but can explain much much more than words can. They are images of entities or powers, in a sense, or the parts of the psyche that are collected in the subconscious. Right?" He bit his lip, hoping that the answer was correct. After all, he hadn't really paid much attention last year. He looked at Bannishtar eagerly.

EDIT - Disregard this message.

Sitting down by the back of the classroom , she put her bag down and took out her divination book . Feeling like if the temparature was rising ,she tight up her black long hair in a messy bun.
Without a sound she just stayed there, doing nothing .

Tinsley was suddenly immersed in Bannishtar's words, hanging on each one - what was this odd connection she felt? Ignoring it, she raised her hand, for a moment disregarding what others would think. "Excuse me, Professor," Again, her polite tone was quite shocking to all around her who were quite used to her sneer. "If everything is predetermined powers, then why must a person have seer blood to make a prophecy? If that's true, shouldn't everyone possess the power?" With a skeptical look, she arched an eyebrow, her brow furrowed. She was actually interested in a subject for once - how strange.

Kiki hadn't the foggiest idea as to what an archetype was. She looked down at her parchment. She had been careful to write everything down on one piece of parchement. She had a few sheets that were blank.

She started folding one particular parchment, pressing her palm down hard to crease the edges. Her movements were deft, her fingers nimble, as she concentrated on her parchment origami.

She folded it into a swan. It looked more like a yellow duckie, actually. She set it on her desk and started making another.

The song playing in her head was some classical piece, and her head swayed to and fro as she heard it. She must have looked barmy, but she was adding to her swan army, only taking out breaks to write down additional notes. Good thing she sat behind Rozza. Rozza was a bit taller than she, and thus, obscurred Kiki from view.

Well, all of Kiki except her high ponytails.

"Very good, Mr. Demarco. Five points for Hufflepuff, I think. Archetypes are--"

But Banni was interrupted by a skeptical voice. It was the young woman who'd answered her earlier. Banni smiled. He invited skepticism, as it was perhaps the best tool for teaching, he believed, to answer a skeptic.

"Hm. Good question, Miss Charmicheal." Banni began pacing the space in front of his students as he spoke, often stopping and talking as if to himself, trying his best to explain things that had not been put into words too often--many things yet to be tested and proven. "You see, though it is true that all life follows a pattern, and analyzing that pattern can lead to the drawing of certain conclusion--or predictions, those patterns are not always initially recognizable to us. Hence the archetypes: they are abstract, and as Mr. Demarco had pointed out, the meanings are locked away in our subconscious--and it is on that level that we understand them. In essence, archetypes are the knowledge of all things when understood through the subconscious. However, our conscious minds are incapable of understanding this information.

'Visions' are the seer's mind's attempt to translate the indefinable information into actual images--this is why visions are almost always metaphorical. This information comes from a certain part of us that is aware of everything, even each other. A place where all of us are truly one. It is known to us centaurs as the Sea of Consciousness but there is a place withing the Ministry's Department of Mysteries which studies the mysteries of divination through the prophecies stored there. There, the researchers have dubbed this connection the Collective Unconscious Domain or 'Unus Mundus', meaning one mind."

Banni paused, happy to have the attention of his students.

"Only seers can delve into this Unconscious Domain. Simple genetics, really. Just as some can jump high, or can sing well, or have the ability to use magic, or think on a level unattainable to others--yes indeed that is the very essence of it, thinking on another level--these are traits that are determined by the traits of the parent. Some can be learned sure, just as it is possible for one to train their singing voice without the trait of a good singer, it is possible to learn to make predictions based on analyzing certain phenomena without the blood of a seer; though that person will never attain the full power to have a true vision, just as that singer will never have the proficiency that developed natural talent can bring."

Banni stopped in the center of the space he'd been pacing, right in front of the students.

"On a final note--though it cannot be proven--it is believed that when the analyzing of certain data triggers a connection with the unconscious domain, the seer is then exposed to..well...how can I put this..." Banni paused, considering it for a moment, "Well...everything. All is known to you, though because you are unable to truly comprehend it in your physical mind, you bring no more of that information back with you than of what you are about to have a vision of, for that's the only part of it which your mind was able to make some sense of."

Banni paused, smiling.

"Well?" he asked, "Are you writing this all down?" He watched as some students frantically reached for quill and paper.

"Oh, and ten points for Slytherin for a very good question, Miss Charmicheal."

Rosalind looked up when the professor finally entered the classroom. She actually found Divination rather boring -- she preferred the typical stuff, not any of this...golden spiral nonesense. Why did she need to know details? Sighing, she tried to take notes, so hard, you can't even comprehend! But soon, Rosalind found herself spacing out and looked down to see that half of her notes parchment was covered in doodles. Crap. Now she had no idea what the Professor was talking about.

"Kiki!" she whispered. "Let me see your notes!"

But it appeared that Kiki was not, in fact, making notes, but creating origami out of her parchment. Fantastic.

Xander watched Tinsley for a moment, not sure if he understood what he exact motives were, if any. He paid little attention to the creature in front of him. He wasn't racist, he simply didn't like the class to begin with. He didn't care about what planets meant what. It was just a bunch of useless information anyway. He'd doubt he'd consult Venus for girl trouble in the future anyway.

Xander wrote the nods down haphazardly. The notes were meager to say the least. He'd probably just look at the books later for the same answer. He put his quill down and yawned quietly, leaning back. He was starting to hungry. I sure am hungry..I could eat a hippogriff, heh. Maybe if it stopped long enough to stop pecking me to death I could maybe get a leg. Nah, chicken sounds less painful. He glanced around the room, watching some doze off, others taking notes quickly, trying to make sure they didn't miss a single detail.

He looked over to the Hufflepuff boy who had screamed something about leperchauns earlier and he shot him a funny look.
