Welcome to Hogwarts Interactive Role Play, one of the net's best in Harry Potter and Hogwarts role plays. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Here at Hogwarts our students are currently in their Seventh Year. Last year, the war against the Knights crescendoed into a direct attack against the school. Disappearances are still reported (or not) daily, and the Dark Lord and his Knights of Walpurgis have succeeded in spreading their message of "do as thou will" far and wide across the globe. Magical Law Enforcement, which is now the only authority in the wizarding world under Martial Law, has responded by tightening security, controlling the media, and strictly enforcing curfews and other laws. Their control is damaging to the people's freedom, and their hierarchy is a suspicious lot. It is clear that some members of the MLE like their new found power a bit too much, others see it necessary, but all are in serious danger of being consumed by it. But with the picture of just what Azariah Amaranth is after becoming ever clearer, and a third player in the form of a group called SAVIOR entering the scene, what will the MLE do next to ensure that they've got the situation under control?

The Elementium, the Higher Plane that had once been hidden just beyond the veil in the Department of Mysteries, and the Deathly Hallows. The pieces of the puzzle have been identified, but what picture do they make?

Today is Day 1 of Year Seven. Students have had time to recover from the Knight's attack, and are beginning to reluctantly return to the walls of Hogwarts. The safety of the school has been diminished, bringing up the question everyone must ask. Are you safe anywhere these days? It's up to each individual to decide their fate, where will you decide to go?

3rd Year COMC; Day 6, "Question time With Banni" Lesson

Kiki blinked.

"Oui. I'll do it, then."

Kiki tentatively raised her hand.

"If I may ask, Banni, what is the family structure of the centaur like?" she asked.

She knew that Banni was the last of his kind, but she was curious. She'd seen him so angry. It was frightening.

"It is perfectly all right with me, my friend," said Bannishtar as he moved to the front of the room, laying out his various weapons and tools on the table so that the class could see them.

"Good afternoon," said the centaur, "Now I would expect that you already know who I am, so I shall skip introductions if that is all well and good for you," Banni cleared his throat, "I would like you to know that you may ask me anything, as I am more than willing to teach you of the ways of my kind. You need not fear for sake, for I fear more for yours. I believe it is of utmost importance that you learn beyond the mistakes of your forefathers--perhaps now more than ever that those mistakes should begin to cause problems for you now. You know of what I speak. I believe it is of grave importance that you are learned where your fathers were, perhaps, ignorant; that you may fix the mistakes of your ancestors, or be doomed to repeat them--this time, perhaps, with even deadlier consequences.

"I, too, am learning. My kind both fears and hates wizards. It is the viewpoint that your kind is an arrogant, selfish, ignorant race which feeds off the depression of other races that I grew up learning. This is due, in part, to those aforementioned mistakes of your fathers, but I have now come to learn that this narrow-minded viewpoint is wrong,"
the centaur's emerald green eyes scanned the faces before him, "I have seen love and compassion amongst your race that is not any different than that of my own race--yet that is extraordinary in and of itself. I have come to learn that we--humans, goblins, elves, centaurs--are not so different. Aside from our different gifts and ways of life, apart from our different tongues, we all share in this world. We live with it, we die with it."

Banni closed his eyes for a moment. He'd planned most of this speech out, but now he felt more needed to be said--especially after the disturbance in his own classroom; especially now that he was fearful that he may not have much time remaining at Hogwarts. This needed to be said now:

"It is, perhaps, unfair that ones so young should have to bear the burden of mistakes made long before their time, but however tragic it may be, it is reality nonetheless. You may find that one day, those whom you had always depended on for guidance--Professor Belleford, Professor Aphelion, Professor Concordus, and...myself--may not be around forever. When that time comes, all you will have to aid you is each other. And yet I find that there is still much fighting, much hatred and violence amongst you all," he looked first at Beau, reminded of something she'd cried out during the fighting, then he looked at Tristan, at Lola, and then Ben, Ella, Fera, and the pair of Gryffindors that had been fighting in his class, before he finally scanned the entire room again with his kind green eyes, "Do not fall apart." he said softly.

"As I've said already, love is one thing our races share in common, though often times not with each other. And excuse me if I should sound bold, but I do believe that love and compassion and understanding are perhaps the greatest things that you will come to learn here at this school--through friends, through teachers, through companions--for they are more powerful than any spell Nate or the others can teach you; more potent than any potion you may brew; and more far-reaching than any glimpse of the future that I can offer you. Please. There are those who do not understand this, and it is those kinds of people that are most surely behind all that is wrong with the world."

Inhaling and exhaling first--he had not meant to hint at his fears that he will soon be gone, it just came out that way--Banni then said, forcing a cheerful disposition, "So, who will be first? Now don't be shy. Ask me anything."

Hands shot up, Banni pointed out to a pretty Hufflepuff girl sitting with Ben Thomas.

"Yes?"

"If I may ask, Banni, what is the family structure of the centaur like?" she asked, a bit tentatively, despite Banni's saying that he did not mind those kinds of questions.

"Ah yes," said Banni, "a very good question. You see, unlike your society, where the responsibility of care and instruction of a child lies solely with the child's parents, it is the belief of my kind that it takes an entire herd to raise a foal. Instruction can be given from any adult in the herd, as well as rewards and punishment. Whilst mothers and fathers are still the primary care-givers, there are no qualms over another member of the herd teaching or disciplining their young ones."

Banni continued, "The females of our herd are generally responsible for caring for the very young. The males teach them how to hunt and how to survive; the teach the art of dressing meat and arrow fletching--though the women also generally know these things. Later, the foals learn from each other the art of battle, much like human sports games, our games mimic battle, and that is how we learn to fight. Strength in battle is of utmost importance to us, as our ability to survive is what casts us in our respective positions in the herd. It is not to say that the weaker of us are not valued, but it is the strongest of us that are placed above the rest in matters of decision making--not that there aren't apparent flaws in that system," added Banni, with two glances--one for Fera and one for Matthew-- and a knowing smile, as he knew they would understand, having met the leader, Ronin.

"Anyone else?"

"It's not always easy to hold together, when people judge out of blood, skin and practically everything. I'd say we all are those arrogant, selfish and ignorant jerks some beings think we are. Look at most of us, none of us are nice only to be nice, we all want something for it." Annie was talking to herself, and took it for granted that nobody listened. "Honestly, we've gone catagorizing thinking, intuelectual beings, much, much smarter than..." Calm down.

Annie silented, and closed her eyes, I'm busy.
Busy with what? Ranting about nothing to yourself?
Uh... Yah.
You're pathetic. Well, I want to speak to you.
I noticed.
Stop being sarcastic. I want to speak to you mind to mind.
You mean Face to face.
I don't have any face.
Forgot that. What you mean then, a vision?
Nah... Just true mediation... You know... herbs and such buring, a item of strong affection, although not yours, keeping your mind stable.
Where do I get that?
Look around.
Ok... But is it safe for me to meditate?
Safer than sanity for sure.
Good enough

Annie blinked and returned to normal. " a item of strong affection..." Annie looked around, Ben gripping his pillow getting her attention. That would be wrong Annie. WRONG. But if he gives it to me...? Then it's not wrong, if I was to fix it... If I did it to help him. Annie nodded to herself.

Emma smiled as Savannah sunk low in her chair, and Emma watched the centaur walk to the front of the class. As Bannishtar began to talk, Emma listened to every word intently. She was fascinated. Emma was never the kind of person that payed much attention to school, but something about the centaurs was so intriguing she found her mind focused for once.

A pretty Hufflepuff girl's hand shot straight up in the air first with a question. Emma glanced at Savannah tentatively and after the centaur was finished answering his question, Emma rose her hand.

Quote:

"Anyone else?"

"Um," Emma cleared her throat and smiled. "I was wondering. You seem to have a very tight knit family, herd...and it seems as though centaurs have a very high self respect. Do intruders on your territory ever get punished? What I'm trying to say is, what are the consequences of someone disrespecting a centaur?"

Emma suddenly wished she hadn't said anything at all.

Beau cringed at the girl's question, she'd broken one of the rules Beau and Jordan had set. She wanted to jump in with a new question, but that'd be disrespectful. Oh god, who knows what this will start, Red Caps, Banni's banishment, this isn't going to be pretty.

Banni's face remained blank. It seemed like such an odd question. He didn't think it needed to even be asked, given the current situation. Was the reason for the school's lockdown not common knowledge? Didn't these children even read the Prophet?

"Yes...well, we centaur have never taken kindly to human presence in our territory. However, it has always been our policy to simply 'run them out', and it is law amongst are kind that young ones are never harmed, no matter their offense...however...well you must know why you are no longer allowed outside? I thought the Headmistress had announced it ages ago," he paused, "Look. The truth is that my herd had come under fire by some very despicable fellows, wizards--politicians--who wanted to further restrict their rights. My former herd did not take kindly to this, and they've banned all humans from the forest. There is still no proof that the various attacks and disappearances haven't been caused by my people. This is the very reason why men from the Ministry are now patrolling around the school, despite just about everyone here at Hogwarts not wanting them here. The Ministry thinks they can decide where my kind can live, and my herd has reacted in a way as to tell them that they cannot, despite what more trouble it has caused..." Banni did not go into the tale of his defeating Ronin, and his worries about what will happen next, nor did he wish to recount the delicate political situation this has become, as that information was on a need-to-know basis, and right now none of them needed to know.

"Next?"

Emma sunk low in her seat. She knew the second her question had left her lips, she had said something wrong. The Hufflepuff girl - Beau, Emma thought her name was - had looked as though she had desperatley wanted to change the subject. Emma's cheeks turned red. I guess I should pay more attention to what's going on, thought Emma. I had no idea any of this was going on.

She didn't say a word, except pulling out a book to cover her blushing cheeks.

"The Ministry thinks they can decide where my kind can live, and my herd has reacted in a way as to tell them that they cannot, despite what more trouble it has caused..."

She beagn to worry, the way Banni explained it made the closed grounds sound so... permanant. The Ravenclaw was now blushing, so Beau rushed to the rescue. Her hand twisted politely into the air, "You mentioned 'different gifts', and I read that centaurs have a talent for Divination, I was just wondering how clear the predictions were normally."

Lola had now kneeled beside Tristan, to not look odd just standing there. She bit her lip and let out a gasp as Emma asked what she did. No, Emma! She yelled in her head. She bit her lip and turned back to Tristan, waiting for his reaction to what she had just confided in him.

Melanie could hear everything , yeah , but she just kept writing down dumb questions in her "kinda" best writing.
Do centaurs have a specific religion or belief?
She later on crossed it out. Religion wouldnt be very fasinating , people are going to think she is into religion or thst she is very religious , which she wasnt. She kept thinking . Later she turned around to Tristan "Are you going to ask a question?" Melanie said curiously , then remembering that he was having a conversation with Lola . Melanie, feeling rude ,put her head down, turned around and went back to writing down questions that she will probably never ask.

Ben sat back and listened as Banni began to answer each and everything question already asked, slowly, respectfully and easily. Ben smiled to himself, he respected the centaur even through the tough time he was having.

He turned back to Kiki, "Hey, so any other questions we could think of?" Ben asked to the pretty Hufflepuff before smiling once more.

Tristan reacted instantly, widening his eyes in amazement and genuine shock, a slight look of revulsion etched over his face. "You like him?" he whispered feverishly. "What the hell for? He's rude to you? He calls you names! He's as bad as Julian!"

Then again he shouldn't be so surprised. His best friend was was infatuated with one of the vilest of Slytherins - Julian Kahn. The minds of women should be of no surprise to him after that.

Matthew continued to stand up throughout the question session as Bannishtar was doing brilliantly with answering the questions. It had been the first time since the dragon models he had seen his class have fun, which with the restrictions of the grounds and such made it unlikely and hard to do.

He gave Banni a quick nod of apprieciation and respect as the class continued to prepare and ask questions, he smiled to himself before watching whomever was next.

"Well done class so far, I will award house points to all those who asked questions at the end of the lesson," Matthew smiled once more on those words, especially smiling and winking to the Gryffindors, almost hinting for them to ask more, as his house Gryffindor was last, which was found a disgrace by the head of house, Matty.

Eric entered the classroom. He was rather late compared to everyone else, so he slipped in and took a seat away from most of the action concerning the question asking and such.

Around him he looked, he sneered to himself as everyone seemed too happy and "person-like" for him, Eric felt he should of stayed in the Owlery, but missing class again would of been a pain, especially when Care of Magical Creatures was his favourite lesson, however as this involved speaking up infront of the class it was now a drag..

"Gah..idiots.." Eric mumbled to himself.

Lola bit her lip as Tristan spoke. "Tris! Tris..." she whispered, as she felt her heartbeat racing and wanting to leap out of her chest. She tapped the table with her small fingertips and sighed, looking back up at Tristan.

"The last few arguments have been different. It's like this whole side of him that I never thought I'd see. Please, Tris. Please don't tell. You're the only one that knows... please..." she begged, her eyes filled with plea and hope. She trusted Tristan, now. And she hoped he knew so by her tellnig him her darkest secret.

She sighed as she kept looking at Tristan, pleading silently.

"Do the other Slytherins think you're a pansy since you claim to be 'neutral'."

Jordan smirked. "I don't say I'm neutral. I just go with whatever. It depends." he stopped speaking when he saw Bannishtar walk in. He cleared his throat and leaned back watching everything. He nodded as Beau asked a question and crossed his arms over his chest wondering what else they could ask.

His mind was too focused on Lola whispering feverishly to Tristan.

Jesse looked up when she heard the door open, and saw a gryffindor (eric) walk in. She smiled to herself, grabbed her books and went to sit next to him. "Hi there." she said to him cheerfully "You don't mind me sitting here do you ?" she smiled to him and waiting for his answer and she thought he hopefully wouldnt mind.

Eric heard the dreaded question of "You don't mind me sitting here do you?" He simply looked up to the girl and sneered, hopefully she would get the picture that he was not a people person.

He did however move his stuff along the bench slightly just incase the girl did as Eric did not like to seem the rude type, he was not a Slytherin, he was simply a braveheart Gryffindor who only liked animals.

"Bloody hell..." He grumbled once more, before slumping into a heap in the corner of the desk, he tried to smile to himself upon thinking about the creatures this lesson could bring up next year, however it was not working as this lesson was too "Human/person orientated."

Ella listened to Banni speak, a thoughtful frown etched across her features, which deepened when talk turned to the Ministry-or "very despicable fellows," whatever you wanted to call them. All of the anti-Ministry feeling going around the school was starting to bug her- if the Ministry did something, it must be for a reason, a good reason. Hadn't her father always taught her that he was working for the good of Wizard kind, to keep order and to protect our secrets, not all of this...well, she wasn't even sure what all people were saying that they were doing. Then again, this would go perfectly with all of the just plain confusing things happening lately, she thought as she glanced once more at Ben.

Why couldn't everything just have stayed the same.....

He turned back to Kiki, "Hey, so any other questions we could think of?" Ben asked to the pretty Hufflepuff before smiling once more.

Kiki furrowed her brow, trying to think of a question. She absentmindedly tapped her quill to her chin, letting the feather caress her face. Her eyes looking heavenward, nose scrunched, lips pursed. One finger wrapped itself around one of her curls. Her sister, Mariane, called it her 'dumb-blonde' pose. Mariane was watching too many American movies, in Kiki's opinion.

"Well...why don't we ask what centaurs do for recreational activities?"

She turned her hazel eyes to Ben. "Do you want to ask this question? I know it may be a silly one...I can ask it if you don't want to." Kiki dithered.
