Read Today's Daily Prophet: Knights of Walpurgis attack Hogwarts; Belleford steps down as Hogwarts closes until further notice
Welcome to Hogwarts Interactive Role Play, one of the net's best in Harry Potter and Hogwarts role plays. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Here at Hogwarts our students are currently in their Seventh Year. Last year, the war against the Knights crescendoed into a direct attack against the school. Disappearances are still reported (or not) daily, and the Dark Lord and his Knights of Walpurgis have succeeded in spreading their message of "do as thou will" far and wide across the globe. Magical Law Enforcement, which is now the only authority in the wizarding world under Martial Law, has responded by tightening security, controlling the media, and strictly enforcing curfews and other laws. Their control is damaging to the people's freedom, and their hierarchy is a suspicious lot. It is clear that some members of the MLE like their new found power a bit too much, others see it necessary, but all are in serious danger of being consumed by it. But with the picture of just what Azariah Amaranth is after becoming ever clearer, and a third player in the form of a group called SAVIOR entering the scene, what will the MLE do next to ensure that they've got the situation under control?

The Elementium, the Higher Plane that had once been hidden just beyond the veil in the Department of Mysteries, and the Deathly Hallows. The pieces of the puzzle have been identified, but what picture do they make?

Today is Day 1 of Year Seven. Students have had time to recover from the Knight's attack, and are beginning to reluctantly return to the walls of Hogwarts. The safety of the school has been diminished, bringing up the question everyone must ask. Are you safe anywhere these days? It's up to each individual to decide their fate, where will you decide to go?

"Yes, that is the definition of Archetype, though rather textbook," said the centaur, "But I shall award Slytherin five points for your answer."

The centaur went on, "Yes, the term 'archetype' is defined as the first original model of which all other similar persons, objects, or concepts are merely derivative, copied, patterned, or emulated. In Divination, these archetypes are not copied from any original symbol, but are derivative of abstract knowledge that exists within the psyches of all living things. Whether you know it or not, The Golden Ratio is familiar to you--if just on a subconscious level. These archetypes were not created, but it is simply that they exist, and have always existed, either in various symbols or creations of the intelligent lifeforms in this world, or in life itself, such as with the Golden Spiral: All living things follow the ratio that this pattern represents. In my time with humans, I have been fortunate enough to learn several mathematic concepts that have increased my understanding of archetypes and their roles. The golden spiral, or Phi can be seen in the gaps between the golden lines in the spiral. Each is slightly larger than the other. In fact, each gap in the spiral is one and one-hundred-sixty-eight thousandths times larger than the last. This can be seen in the nature as the concept which governs all life.

"What all this means is, that all existence is derived from these archetypes, and that all living things know these symbols, and it is seen in the symbols, art, and archetecture of cultures, both magical and non-magical; human and creature--all around the world. This is the explanation for why so many symbols are seen in different culture who have had no recorded contact with one another."

Banni snapped his fingers, and several more symbols appeared as if drawn with light:

"Now I will be saving more complex explanations for later classes--and for NEWT-level classes," said Banni, "But it is important that you have an idea of what these archetypes are. Now all of you will notice several piles of foliage in front of you. These plants are sage, and mallowsweet, and are used in scrying from fume and flame. Scrying is an auto-deepening trance process that progresses in stages by concentrating on a medium--in this case, smoke. Initially, the medium serves as a focus for the attention, removing unwanted thoughts from the mind in the same way as a mantra. Once this is achieved, the scryer begins a free association with the perceived images suggested, which will be the various archetypes shown above.

"I want you all to pair up and light the piles of foliage. I want you to watch the smoke, concentrate, remove all impediments from your mind, and try to 'see' the archetypes shown above, though you will not literally see them, for they are abstract, but the part of you that exists within the unconscious domain will recognize it, and if you are astute enough, you will come into contact with that part of yourself that is connected to all things, and thereby summon up the knowledge of all things that will lead you to discovery of the fate of our world. That is the essence of Divination.

"Further," said the centaur, eager to stop speaking as his throat was becoming dry from all the lecturing, "If you have any questions please ask me. Also, I will be giving bonus points to any who can give me an example of one of these archetypes shown in nature, in art, or in archecture at any point in todays lesson. That is all, you may begin."

Banni knew that most of this would go in one ear and out the other, but this was perhaps the best way he could explain it. He had used much of his knowledge obtained through learning from humans to explain it in a way they might understand, but he knew such things would remain beyond all but some. Passing Annie as he made his rounds around the clearing--mostly just to see if they were at least participating--he caught Annie's eyes again before moving on to the next group.

Annie nodded, wondering why this centaur always wanted to catch her eye. She took some of the herbs and begun, not wanting to pair up at the moment. She easily rid her head of other than the smoke, and was as enchanted while looking into it. She saw the first archetype swirl around in the flames, and it sort of etched onto her eyes, which where white now, with a complete replica of the golden spiral inside.

I'm sorry.
Huh?
I'm so sorry... I didn't mean to scare you...
You're back!
Yes, but you have no need to worry about your last vision. It has gone true.
Wha...?

Then Annie remembered it all. Quickly and fastly. (OOC:Her charm wasn't very good, :P)

Oh... But, I haven't been attacked.
No... That was a replica of an arguement, build on the tension of William Clovers death. One that would hurt you mentally.
Ah... Will I remember this?
If you wish... That is... I can rid myself forever... Do you wish that Annie?
I don't know...
I promise to help you... You can contact me still...
Well... Ok then... I'll keep you...

Lola smiled at Aubrey and leaned in. "I despise when we have classes with all the houses." she whispered. She leaned back against her tree and raised an eyebrow as the Professor spoke about Ben. He was right, he wasn't there. She looked around and wondered; where was Ben?

She nodded her head at John as he arrived and asked Aubrey her name. She smirked. Looks like pretty Miss Aubrey has some fans. She grinned as she thought of how cute it'd be for him to like her. She sighed and did her best to pay attention to the Professor.

Lola bit her lip. She didn't like when they had to pair up, but she had no choice. She turned to Aubrey, then to John. "Sorry, John. I'm going to steal my cousin here from you for a bit." she smirked before turning to Aubrey. She leaned in to whisper to her once more; "I'll go find another partner. You pair up with Mister John, seems he's interested." she leaned back and grinned at her. "Catch you later, babes." she smiled, as she got up and brushed herself off, looking aronud to see if anyone would be her partner. Anyone of her liking, that is.

She saw Savannah. She smiled at her and gave her a small wave, before crouching down to grab her bag. She then spotted Melanie, she walked over to her and smiled, donig her best to hide any sadness. "Hey Melanie. Let's partner up, yes?" she asked, motioning towards the foliage.

Lola smiled at Melanie and nodded. She placed her bag down. "I coudl be better, but everything will work itself out eventually." she looked around then back at Melanie. "You?" she asked, as she took out her wand. She cleared her throat and looked at the foliage. Swiftly flicking her wand, she spoke "Incendio." and the foliage was lit. She did her best to concentrate.

She couldn't do it. Thoughts of James and his health issues. She groaned loudly and shut her eyes, burying her face into her hands.

Melanie saw the foliage burn and the black smoke going up in the air she started concentrating on it but saw Lola ,and how she put her face in her hands . Was she alright?? she turned to Lola and asked
" Are you alright?"
she didnt know what was wrong with her but she thought that maybe she couldnt concentrate .so Mel put her hand on Lola's shoulder and said
"Oh its ok just do your best"
she let Lola be and took took her hand out of Lola's shoulder and concentrated on her work.

Lola gave Melanie a weak smile and nodded in assurance.

She sighed and turned back to the foliage. She bit her lip as she did her best to concentrate. She failed. She sighed heavily. All she saw was smoke. She shook her head and started over, clearing her mind. Clearing my mind...

After a while she saw something. She wasn't sure what it was, or what it represented, but it gave her a hollow feeling in the pit of her stomach. She got a cold feeling over her whole body and quickly jumped back. She tilted her head wondering what that was all about. She shuddered, and turned to Melanie.

"I don't think I'm doing this right." she muttered, massaging her temples.

She saw the smile Lola gave her , a weak one though. She knew that something else was happening to her but she just said to herself " If she is not telling you, then just mind your own beeswax and she replied at what Lola said to her
"Oh just concentrate more well if you cant concentrate at all , just pretend you are doing it right and say that you saw a symbol like the ones the professor showed."
she said .

Ian turned his head when Bannishtar told him to stop scowling, instead he stared contemptuously in another direction: Lola's. Ian couldn't decide who he hated more right now: Lola, or Fera. Of course, Lola hadn't just bombed him back to France with an exploding fire spell, and she wasn't bad looking--

"Ian de Ponte du Lac!"

Ian looked up, shaken from his thoughts by the centaur teaching this 'class.'

Banni had spotted the Slytherin staring off into space and not participating. He went over to the boy and addressed him, the boy looked up at him as if he had just been shaken awake.

"Have you not been paying attention? What did I say to you at the beginning of class?" asked the centaur, his tone and expression stern, but not angry, "Why have you not paired up with anyone?"

Ian stared at the centaur towering high above himself, not bothering to hide his contempt. He raised a thin dark eyebrow and said calmly, "Because your subject is a useless waste of time and I don't really relish the thought of pairing up with any of these...people." He was feeling especially punchy today.

He continued to glare up at the centaur, not breaking eye-contact.

Heh, he thought maliciously, I bet direct eye contact means a challenge to these horses.

Ian had no real prejudice against the creatures, but his punchy attitude dictated that he make such a joke, even in his head.

Banni's tail flicked irritably, but the centaur's face remained passive as he scrutinized the boy. If ever there was proof for his kind's case against the humans, this boy was it. Self-centered and completely closed-minded. Banni knew exactly what the boy had meant by 'these people.'

"That may be so," he said, "but you need to participate to get a grade. Participation is all I require."

He turned around to go and check on the other students' progress, but stopped and turned his head back towards Ian.

"Oh," he said, "And I won't be tolerating any maligning of me or your classmates. Five points will be taken from Slytherin. Try to keep such sentiments to yourself from now on."

Then the centaur resumed his rounds, and noted that Annie looked as though she was deep in concentration--as if she were in another world. Her eyes were white.

Just as I'd predicted she would, he thought. She is indeed possessed of the sight.

Lola nodded at Melanie. "Good idea." she muttered, as she looked around. She glanced at Ian and bit her lip. He wasn't bad looking when he was bothered. She looked away, and saw the Professor deduct points from Slytherin, on Ian's behalf. She smirked and rolled her eyes. "Typical de Ponte." she muttered, as she pulled her hair back and took out a scrunchie and tied it into a loose bun near the top of her head. She felt naked. No make-up (she wiped it off on her way to class) and her whole face was revealed. She shrugged.

She crinkled her nose and kept staring into the fire. She saw... nothing but smoke. She sighed irritably. Ian in the room meant Lola couldn't concentrate. She kept staring into the smoke: nothing.

She sighed once more and groaned. She coughed lightly and wiped her eyes. They were still hazy from today's crying session.

"Tch." Ian said, rising up from his comfortable position against the tree. He made his way over to the nearest unoccupied pile of foliage, making it clear by the way he carried himself that he did not wish a partner. He'd play the horse's game, but he'd do it alone; without contact from any muddbloods or blood-traitors--of which the classroom was full.

He sat down hard in front of the pile, once again showing his dislike of the task with every movement. He pulled out his wand and said, "Incendio" and the pile caught fire, which made him think of Fera. That girl pissed him off...yet still he was reluctant to target her. Revenge just wasn't his style, and he supposed that he never considered having to harm others to get where he wanted to be. He sat there watching the fumes, concentrating, not on any symbols or archetypes or whatever the horse was going on about, but on his own dichotomous nature. He was torn. And what was worse was nobody could help him now: He was in too deep.

Sitting there, wallowing in a mix of indecision and hopeless self-pity, he thought he'd seen a shape in the smoke. His body slackened, his eyes misted over. Unbeknownst to him, however, in his tranced state, the water of the pond began to ripple, as if there were a tremor, though the ground remained still. Then she appeared to him again. The old woman. Though she seemed to come from the smoke, and was a part of the smoke, but she did not look like smoke. She was more insubstantial than flesh, but hardly a ghost. She looked at him with an expression of scrutiny and disdain, though there was also something forlorn about her expression: a sad disappointment.

What the hell do you want? Ian thought, somehow knowing full well that she could hear him. Elsewhere, in the forest-room that was seemingly a thousand miles away from him, the small pool of clear water began to slosh around uncontrollably. Water lapped up and over the edge in waves, as if it were an ocean during a particularly powerful storm, and not a small pond.

She just stared at him, with that same look that suggested that he'd failed her somehow.

I don't know who the hell you are, he thought angrily (though his face remained blank), But you've got no right to judge me. I know that's what your doing. You don't know!

And just then, the water began to swirl, as if somebody had just unplugged the drain under the water a whirlpool was summoned.

Foolish youth, came a scornful voice that quivered with age, You never want to believe that anyone else can understand you. You relish in self-pity.

Go away. he commanded mentally, now angrier than ever at her admonishment. The old woman, with her high cheekbones and wrinkled face, smiled. She looked triumphant.

"GO AWAY!" he commanded aloud. And she was gone. There was only smoke. Sense of the world--and of his classmates--finally returned to Ian, just in time to see the small pond become gradually less and less turbulent, then calm.

((OOC: No Ian does not have the sight. I planned this from the moment I took the divination position. Just a meditation to put him in contact with his Spirit Guide and to reveal his water powers. Feel free to react however you like.))

Kidnapped!

OOc - I've actually read an entire book on the Golden Ratio, really interesting stuff.

BIC - Tristan raised his hand, anxious to place Ravenclaw back in contention after the tumultuous amount of points to the other 3 houses earlier on. "Professor? The Golden Ratio or Phi is represented mathematically as 1.61. As for nature, it can be found anywhere! The human body is divided into the Golden Ratio. For example, the length of the lower half of the arm compared to the total length is in that ratio. The upper half of the body compared to the entire length is in the Golden Ratio." Tristan had been shown this phenomenon by his father several years earlier and had proceeded to read up on the topic with avid interest.

Yvette Hannberry and Ben Thomas seem to be missing...

Ella glanced up at the Professor, her features showing obvious worry. She remembered Ben's face when she had told him about Yvette's attack, and his declaration that he would "get her back" and bit her lip.

Just don't do anything stupid... she prayed silently, glancing at the door as if hoping that he would burst in, muttering about getting lost or something like that.

When Bannishtar began to speak, Ella began taking notes, deciding that she would just put the matter out of her mind. However, within the first few minutes of the lesson, she shook her head and put down her quill. Really, the centaur might as well be speaking Greek for all the good it did her...

One thing she did understand, however, was the term "pair up". She looked around and saw her four options-Annie, Ian, John, and Tristan. Annie was acting rather odd, Ian annoyed her to no end, and John seemed distracted by his book. Ella looked over at Tristan-he was answering a queston, and seemed to know what he was doing....unlike Ella, who had pretty much gathered that they had to burn some special leaves.

"Hey" she said, walking up to him. "You want to partner up? I'm not promising that I'll be much help at all, but..." she trailed off at a sudden outburst behind her. She turned to see Ian, looking flustered and stairing at a small pool of water. She shook her head-everyday it became more evident that ninety percent of her house were off their rockers, if not more....

((OOC: Sorry, but I'm always busy on Sundays, so blah! lol))

Angela looked up, still a bit placated at first the Slytherin girl, whom she recognized, and then the Ravenclaw she remembered from lunch, but she didn't have time to chat with them because class started. When the professor called for partners, Angela looked around herself expectantly, asking the closest people to her. ((Annie and Savannah))

"Hey, will one of you partner with me? And explain what we're doing again, I think I spaced out for a while."

"Heh?" was all John could muster as the Hufflepuff just kept on talking about nothing, over and over and over again.

Finally John managed to catch a word, "partners". John did a double take. He never attended this class with the assumption that he would have to do work and it was completely unfair to bail out on the girl now. Either neither of them would work or John would have to concentrate this lesson. "I don't really wanna do this work so here is how I see it. If you want to work, that's cool. I'll give you a hand. Or else we can just chill and not do the work at all? How's that sound?" John said. Hoping the girl would say she also didn't wont to work.

"Exceptional answer, Tristan Nightshade, as I would expect no less from you. Take 10 points for Ravenclaw." Banni smiled. He disliked the rift competition between the houses caused, but he enjoyed it when students participated, even when the true depth of Divination will forever remain beyond them--an exception to that, however, was Annie Stones, who upon exiting her trance exclaimed something quite puzzling to him. He hoped she would stay after class to speak to him, though she seemed quite considerably more jovial about this vision--he supposed it was some kind of vision--than the last one.

"Alright, keep working everyone," he called out, in considerably higher spirits. It was times like this he enjoyed the company of humans. "Remember: empty your mind of all impediments. If it helps, breath deeply the scent of the mallowsweet, for it said that it helps to clear the mi-"

"GO AWAY!"

Banni's head turned quickly to Ian de Ponte du Lac's direction, eying him incredulously. Otherwise, he did nothing. Instead, he simply resumed his rounds around the clearing, making sure the students were participating.

That boy is a weird one, he thought.
