Welcome to Hogwarts Interactive Role Play, one of the net's best in Harry Potter and Hogwarts role plays. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Here at Hogwarts our students are currently in their Seventh Year. Last year, the war against the Knights crescendoed into a direct attack against the school. Disappearances are still reported (or not) daily, and the Dark Lord and his Knights of Walpurgis have succeeded in spreading their message of "do as thou will" far and wide across the globe. Magical Law Enforcement, which is now the only authority in the wizarding world under Martial Law, has responded by tightening security, controlling the media, and strictly enforcing curfews and other laws. Their control is damaging to the people's freedom, and their hierarchy is a suspicious lot. It is clear that some members of the MLE like their new found power a bit too much, others see it necessary, but all are in serious danger of being consumed by it. But with the picture of just what Azariah Amaranth is after becoming ever clearer, and a third player in the form of a group called SAVIOR entering the scene, what will the MLE do next to ensure that they've got the situation under control?

The Elementium, the Higher Plane that had once been hidden just beyond the veil in the Department of Mysteries, and the Deathly Hallows. The pieces of the puzzle have been identified, but what picture do they make?

Today is Day 1 of Year Seven. Students have had time to recover from the Knight's attack, and are beginning to reluctantly return to the walls of Hogwarts. The safety of the school has been diminished, bringing up the question everyone must ask. Are you safe anywhere these days? It's up to each individual to decide their fate, where will you decide to go?

Banni entered forest room. He moved to the clearing where he held classes and where he now gathered piles of foliage to burn: sage and mallowsweet with which to scry from fume and flame.

Then he waited for Taylor to arrive.

It was very quiet in here, save for the chirping of crickets. That's how one knew it wasn't the real forest: There was always noise. The howls of wolves, the distant snarling of a gytrash, or...Banni's heart sank a little--the thundering of hooves.

When the door finally opened some time later, shedding candle light on the indoor forest, shattering the illusion, Banni busied himself rubbing stones together to try and spark a flame.

Taylor entered the divination classroom, the pensieve in her arms. She looked around, suprised, at the "forrest" around her-if she hadn't been in a the entry hall a moment earlier, the witch would have had no trouble believing that she was now standing in the middle of the woods.

Letting the door close behind her, Taylor walked over to where Bannishtar was making a fire.

"Hello" she said cheerfully, placing the pensieve on the ground in front of her and looking around.

"Yes," replied Banni, just as a small orange flame was sparked into life "Hello." Banni bent low to blow on the small flame, trying to get it to smoke properly.

A sweet sent began to fill the air as the burning sage and mollowsweet began to smoke.

"Everything is prepared then. If you do not mind, I shall begin."

(((OOC: Well, as Taylor has not been around in a while, I'll just get on with it then.)))

BIC:

Banni lowered himself to the 'forest' floor, allowing his front legs to fold in under his body. The centaur closed his eyes, breathing in the sweet-smelling smoke. The breathing in of the fumes had nothing to do with the ritual, but Banni savored the old familiar scent. Placing his hands to rest upon his front legs, he opened his eyes and concentrated hard on the fumes that spiraled upwards to the ceiling.

Everthing seemed to stop, there was no castle, no 'forest', no Taylor behind him. The noises of the indoor forest and the distant sounds of students in the Great Hall diminished into nothingness. All that existed at this moment was the flames, the fumes, and Banni--and soon, that too would cease to exist in its current form.

Staring hard at the fumes, Banni recounted every shape and symbol he recognized. He spoke them out as if they were a mantra:

"...merkabah...phi...orobouros...black-feathered-sun...twelve-around-one...cascedeus..." and others escaped his lips, seemingly absentmindedly as he stared deeper into the fumes, ever-more aware of the approaching abyss. His voice became harsher and harsher as he repeated the names of the signs, when at last it was raspy and almost unrecognizable as he at last lost all awareness of what his voice sounded like; he'd lost all awareness of the world itself. His consciousness was now with THE. He was THE, and THE was him. 'He' was no longer.

THE perhaps best described, if there is a name to accurately describe THE, is Unus Mundus--'One Mind'. THE is the everything. THE is all things--all consciousness. Here, there is everything, and you are everything. And you are THE for THE is everything. The 'Sea of Consciousness'; the unconscious domain. All is connected; all is here.

THE basked in this sense of no sense, for he no longer had any sense of self, and that was a very liberating feeling indeed. THE also felt as though THE would never have to ask another question; would never have to know, for he knew. All answers were here. Certainly, whatever Banni had come here to learn, THE now knew...whatever it was. THE felt complete. THE felt more whole and complete than THE had ever felt. However, THE had remembered Banni.

THE felt that THE would lose Banni if THE remained. This was however, because THE had not completely lost Banni, or else THE would not care. Banni continued to anchor THE to the world, and THE remembered what Banni had come to learn:

Here was the knowledge of all things, but such a vast and unending store of knowledge is better explored when one knows what it is he is searching for. THE found it, THE knew what it was, though THE lacked the words to identify it. THE had no words, and therefore this information held no relevance to THE. But, back in the world, Banni, THE's anchor, had found the words to describe the concept, and THE felt as though THE was being pulled, as if by a rope, towards the realm of consciousness again. THE did not want to go, but if THE did not, THE would lose Banni, who was now reciting the prophecy in a trance state, his voice harsh and raspy:

"The shadows of the past will return,
And as the order of the Titan over his subjects comes to chaos in Heaven,
so shall two Titans clash on Earth;
History will repeat itself,
And those that are bitter will cast off the yoke of their oppressors,
and in doing so will they put in motion events far greater than themselves.

"It begins now...it has begun:
The shadows of the past will return,
And as the order of the Titan over his subjects comes to chaos in Heaven,
so shall two Titans clash on Earth..."

And THE felt THE snap back, and break through the Sea of Consciousness as if it were truly water. THE was Banni again, Banni was again himself; incomplete.

Banni gasped for air as he came out of the trance, his hand clutched his throat. He remembered nothing of the trance. All he remembered was blacking out as he spoke the mantra: "...merkabah...phi...orobouros...black-feathered-sun...twelve-around-one...cascedeus..."

The centaur stood up on shaky legs. He faced Taylor, and said in his usual deep toned voice, "Did you get it? Can you play it back for me?"

Taylor watched, transfixed, as the centaur went into what she assumed was the trance he had been talking about. It sent a shiver down the young professor's back-the pure magical energy, very different from the usual that could be sensed from wizards, radiating off the centaur was frightening and awe-inspiring at the same time.

Then, Banni began speaking in a voice that she did not recognize and give the prophesy. Although she knew that all she had to do was hear it to register in the pensieve, Taylor was hanging off of every word, making sure she remembered it.

Then, suddenly, Banni was before her, shaking and asking her something.

"What?" she said, a little dazed after what she had just seen, "Oh...right. Yes, of course..." She bent down over the pensieve, taking out her wand as she did so. Then, the witch touched her wand to her temple and concentrated on the memory of Banni's prophesy. For a moment, the memory was unnaturaly clear in her head before it suddenly blurred, leaving only a wisp of the memory in her mind-it was recorded in the pensieve. It stirred, and then a small image of Banni rose up and began speaking, telling the phrophsy as Taylor had just heard it.

Then, Taylor took her wand and conjured a small glass orb with a hole in it. She then placed her wand tip on the surface and concentrated on the memory she wanted to extract and pulled the wand away, now with a shimmering strand of memory attached to the end. She placed the memory into the orb and then sealed it before standing up and handing it gingerly to Banni.

"Well...there it is" she said, brushing back a strand of unruley reddish hair. "Or I hope so, anyway...I haven't had very much experience with this kind of thing, but I think I did everything right..."

Banni watched as a miniature of himself made of smoke and silver rose from the pensieve and began to speak in a raspy voice that was not his own. He watched blankly as it recounted the prophecy Banni himself had heard long ago when he still hunted deep within the forest. When the prophecy had finished, Banni spoke:

"I have heard this one before," said he, "I meant to recount one that I had heard some ten or so years ago. My herd has long watched the progression of two of Saturn's moons as they threatened to collide with each other. From that, we formed the prophecy you just heard."

He accepted the small glass orb that Taylor had conjured.

"Thank you."

The centaur paused for a moment, considering how best to present his theory. Finally, he said, "I believe that perhaps some of my fellows believe they are fulfilling this prophecy. Naturally that would mean a violation of centaur customs, but Ronin--the new leader for the herd--has always been...different. Whatever the TRUE meaning of this prophecy, if Ronin believes he is fulfilling it; if he believes he has divine mandate to do so, then he is more dangerous than we've thought."

But now that Banni had heard the full prophecy for himself, though admittedly most of it fit, what had it meant by the 'clashing of Titans on Earth as well as Heaven'? And the last part was not something Banni had remembered: 'It begins now...it has begun'. That certainly was not part of the original prophecy. So much that didn't make sense about this prophecy...Perhaps Banni had been jumping to conclusions. After all, it WAS against his people's way to meddle in the world's affairs.

Still, there was much about the prophecy that was curious. He would need to speak with Nate Aphelion and perhaps the Headmistress. Not all prophecies come true, but it seemed as though Banni should let them know about it nonetheless.

"Perhaps you do not put much store by these prophecies, not many of your kind do," said the centaur, "But I should speak with Nate Aphelion, in any case, as this one may concern us even if someone just happens to be THINKING that they are fulfilling this prophecy."

Matthew walked through into the classroom of his friend, Bannishtar, whom he had not talked with him since the aftermath of the red-cap incident in the forest.

"I belive we have some catching up to do, Banni, but however it seems as you have other things to deal with, shall I return later or do you wish for me to stay?", he said looking upon the scene in the adapted classroom, he then awaited for the respected centaur's answer.

"Ah, Matthew," said the centaur, looking up from the newly created prophecy, "I was just thinking that I needed to see you. In fact, I need to inform the entire Hogwarts staff: I think I've uncovered my former herd's motives...and perhaps more. Who can really tell?" The centaur handed the small glass orb to Matthew and said, "Go on, make it play, though I cannot say that all will become clear, in fact, it will only serve to complicate matters, but I believe this may hold some significance to our current plight."

Matthew took the prophecy bowl, he grasped it in two hands before staring deep into it, he pulled out his wand and took the prophecy in one hand, before tapping it slightly on the top, muttering some words as he did so.

He listened as the prophecy began to play back to him, all other thoughts were gone from his mind as this came to him, he listened and stared at the prophecy until the playback had ended.

"This is concerning if it involves the herd."

Matthew turned as he heard a voice join them after he had handed back the prophecy to Banni, it was deputy head Nate Aphelion whom he had saw earlier that day (or was it yesterday on here, not sure) about the forest, with fellow Professor, Charles Tortal.

"Ah, Nate, It appears that Banni has found a very important discovery to do with the centaur herd." he pointed at the orb-like prophecy, "It is all revealed in there."

OOC - Though the new day has begun and "you" may be elsewhere, continue this discussion also until its done as it's fairly important. Essentially you may be in two places at once. Pretend this is still the previous night.

BIC - Nate took the prophetic orb, his expression grim at the mention of the centaur herd. Placing his wand tip against the glass, Nate closed his eyes and listened intently to haunting tones of Banni. After a minute the words ended, his eyes reopening to find his colleagues all staring at him as if wanting his advice and direction. He knew that now he was Deputy Headmaster he had alot more responsibility when it came to the school, even more so than before. It was time for him to step up to the plate. "This is very serious." He faced Bannishtar, "Are your people aware of this prophecy? And if so will they set much store in it?"

If the centaurs believed their to be a divine mandate behind their actions then the situation was much more serious than he had previously anticipated. Not that centaurs posed much of a threat to wizards in the way of physical danger, but if push came to shove, the Ministry would act to protect itself and the centaurs would all be obliterated. But if Nate and the others could calm them and reestablish peaceful ties, at least they would live to see another day. The centaurs were too important a part of the wizarding world to lose. He preyed his own relationship with the centaurs as well as that of Banni and Matthew might be enough to avert any bloodshed.

"I'm afraid they, or at least enough of them, do indeed--for it is a commonly recited prophecy," answered the centaur, "But I don't believe I can properly explain my suspicions unless I tell you the whole story of when I, the would-be-leader Ronin, and my cousin Bane first heard the prophecy:

"It began nearly ten years ago," he began (for lack of the magical ability to show them with the pensieve, "I was still considered young than, but well past adulthood. Even then I had shown much curiosity for the wizard world, and I could often be found far too close to the border of the forest, watching your world, learning--something my cousin Bane had always scoffed at. I never thought I was doing anything wrong: centaurs have always been watchers; forever satisfied with passively monitoring the events of the world in order to better understand it--as well as predict its future.

"I, however, could not be content for long to sit by and watch, I wanted to be a part of it. And I was correct: I, by law of the virtue of my people, had never done anything wrong in watching and learning; therefore my fellows could only scoff at my curiosity, and inform me that had more important matters to which to put my mind: such as my divining.

"I'll admit I never truly enjoyed divining, it just seemed to me to be yet another form of watching--and I was fed up with watching. It would not be until I would have the chance to share my gift with those of another race that I began to appreciate it; a recent event.

"But before that I was considered an oddity amongst my kind, and it was Bane and Ronin who seemed to think this a punishable offense. I was ridiculed by them whenever possible, and when we played our games--those much like the wrestling games of human children which we use to practice for battle--those two would always 'play' far too rough with me. I was often bullied and beaten by those two and others, for not only was a different in my thinking, but I was not the strongest of my herd: Having survived the harsh winter of my birth, I was left somewhat frail and weaker compared with others of my age. Ronin and Bane were the strong ones. The other members of the herd turned a blind eye to what the other foals were doing. It was apparent early on that they, too, shared a distaste for my 'human obsession'.

"The rest of my herd, however, having been so focused on my oddities, had not seen what I had seen in Ronin; for he seemed different in another way: one that many of my kind, having grown up with the notion of the cruelty of wizards, could appreciate. He was always very angry. At everything. Once, when we were young and learning to hunt for ourselves, I remember that Ronin had shot a doe with an arrow. It had pierced her belly, blood and entrails spilled from the wound as she lay there struggling; dying. But Ronin would not fire that merciful killing shot. He just stood there, though I pleaded with him to let it die, and he watched its eyes slowly dim; his face was set like stone with a sort of indifferent curiosity."

Banni paused for a moment, remembering the cry of the doe. You don't often hear the things make sounds, yet in death it did.

"We had a feast that night--or as close to a feast as centaurs can have. He gathered much food, and a bit more than what we needed to survive. It was meant to comermerate us young one's first hunt. We also gave offerings of meat to Gregori, the elder, and the most accomplished diviner in our herd, for that night he was to give a prophecy; the very same you all have just heard (give or take a few lines)."

"As Gregori spoke in harsh, raspy tones, telling of a time when a group that believes itself oppressed will rise up, and that the collision course of Saturn's moon foretold the coming of chaos born of order, I saw, out of the corner of my eye, Ronin, his face uncharacteristically wide-eyed with fascination. I'd never known him to show his emotions like that. But after that night--though he never spoke openly of rebellion--he began to speak of all the reasons why we should stand up against wizards. He spoke of all the things wizards had done to our kind, of what he knew of our oppression of other races. As he spoke, though his stoney-face showed nothing, I could see a foreboding gleam in his deeply set, black eyes.

"'...and you know what they did to the elves, don't you? They are slaves. SLAVES, Bane!'" he argued one night. I was there, though the both of them had taken to treating me as if I were not there. This suited me, as I could finally walk the hunting grounds without fear of bullying.

"Bane had always seemed slightly hesitant to openly agree with Ronin. I always knew that, though he was in agreement with Ronin, he too had his misgivings. I always wondered whether or not he, too, had seen the raging fire of anger that burned within the stone-faced centaur's eyes. I always wondered if he feared what Ronin might do as I had.

"'Yes,' said Bane, 'I know this. But why rant and rave about it? You can't honestly think--'

"'Maybe I do,' said Ronin, 'Maybe I'm tired of wizard arrogance. Maybe I'd like to be able to travel, to see the world without having restrictions being put on where I can go by those arrogant little humans. Don't you want to be free--truly free, Bane?'

"'Yes...I mean--'

"And Ronin merely laughed. Conversations between those two and others went on for years, but I don't think any of us really took him seriously. Though the way his eyes always looked, and the way he seemed to regard the pain of others with indifference worried me, I too thought it was all talk. He wasn't the first to speak this way, after all. But I am afraid it is here that I can no longer account for what happened within the hierarchy of the herd, for I was banished soon after.

"Ronin always had a dislike of humans. As you know, this is not uncommon with my kind, for wizards have long done us great injustice. However, Ronin was different. I do not know if you ever given this much thought, as he kept to himself even in the days that he worked here, but have any of you ever wondered how the former gamekeeper--and my mentor who had just died last year--Randolphius Jeeves hurt his leg? He didn't always walk around with a limp: It was Ronin that injured him.

"All the others of my herd left Jeeves to do what he had been doing for years: coming into the forest to look for herbs. We never took offense to him, for he was always the hermit, and kept away from humans as much as we did. I however, being a curious young one, had resolved to speak with him one day as he gathered herbs.

"He was a tall man, though hunched over with age, he had grizzled gray hair and piercing blue eyes. He was gathering herbs into a sachel at his side. I new he heard me moving close, for he looked up as I approached. He did not, however, regard my presence as anything worth more than a few words:

"'Oh, hello,' he said in a gruff and indifferent tone as he went back to work. Unable to hold it in any longer, I then began, to his utter dismay, to question him on all aspects of wizard life that I had ever heard rumored about:

"'What other implications do you know of for the herbs?', 'Is it true that wizards eat their young?', 'Are there really human diviners?', 'Do you humans really have a special indoor room just for depositing waste?'"

Banni smiled reminiscently.

"He was obviously annoyed, and I hadn't given him a single solitary second with which to answer my overzelous inquiries. However, he began to crack a smile after my last question, and then, to my dismay and utter confusion, he began to laugh out loud.

"'What is so funny?' I asked indignantly.

"'Nothing, nothing,' he said, wiping a tear from his eye, 'You just happen to be one of the strangest centaurs I've ever met. What is your name?'

"'My name is Bannishtar' I said.

"'Ba-wha? Sorry, didn't catch that.'

"Ban-nish-tar'

"'Ban-ni'

"'Close enough.'

"We talked for only a few minutes, for we were interrupted by Ronin. He charged at us without a word. I, with my youth and the reflexes possessed of my race, dodged him easily, but the old man was kicked. I heard the snapping of bones. I knew Ronin had hurt the old man.

"I ran at him and struck him hard in the face with my fist. He stumbled back, but otherwise seemed unfazed.

"'Why in the name of Ixion did you do that?' I demanded.

"But Ronin merely grunted, eyes glaring at me, set in in a stone-like face, daring me to have another go at him. But I did not take this challenge, for I ran past him and picked up the old man. I ran towards the edge of the forest, with the old man in my arms, and I came his hut. I set him down inside--It was a bit of an effort getting myself in, for human dwellings were not made with centaurs in mind.

"Were he not a stronger wizard, Jeeves could have healed it himself fully. I offered to go and fetch anyone I could from the school, but he declined. He was a hermit through and through. So he healed his broken leg with a splint and healing herbs and healing herbs. From then on, until he died, he always walked with a limp.

"I was shunned soon after, by everyone. Most of the herd had taken offense by my saving of the human, and many others shunned my out of fear of having the same done to them if the did not. Magorian kept those that would harm me well away, but he could not stop them from ignoring me. I had to fend for myself after that. It was hard, and we centaurs do not take well to isolation--a trait we share with MOST humans. And soon began to seek the company of Jeeves the Gamekeeper. He taught me much about the ways of gardening and growing plants, and caring for beasts. It fascinated me, really, because we centaurs have always prescribed to the hunter/gatherer lifestyle. This way of caring for the plants and animals that would, in turn, give service to you was an enthralling concept for me; and, in time, I became something of his apprentice.

"I honestly didn't think that I had anything to fear from my former herd after that, and I entered the forest unhindered by anyone for some time, going on errands for Jeeves. I was, however, mistaken, for Bane, Ronin, and their friends ambushed me one day as I was gathering herbs. They beat me, kicked me, cut me with knives of stone used for preparing meat.

"I thought I was to die, I thought they would kill me, but there was a loud BANG and a flash of light. Jeeves had shown magical power I did not think he had. He'd blasted them senseless, and, just as I had done for him months earlier, he helped me out of the forest, towards his hut. And I was never to return."

Banni sighed, having somehow exhausted himself by the telling of this tale even more so than by the making of the prophecy. However tired he felt, and he knew he looked by the feeling of his drooping shoulders, he had to continue:

"So, you see, Ronin's attitude has always been worrisome, but even I had mostly dismissed it as his way of purging anger. I would never have thought he would lead the herd to violate its own laws. Even now it seems incomprehensible."

The centaur put his two fingers to the bridge of his nose, massaging the corners of his eyes. He knew that the others wanted to speak with the herd, but Banni wished it could wait unitl tomorrow, though, he realized that he might get his wish, for the sky outside was growing paler.

Annie entered the room.

"Bannishtar!" Annie looked wildly at the unknown centaur, "You... Should see this. I've been meditating and checking upon it all the time. I think..." She silented when she saw all the teachers, "Whoops... Uh... I'm sorry that I skipped class but it's very important." She slammed the star chart onto the floor, and pointed at it, "You're a centaur, look! I drew it the first day here."

"What is it, child?" Banni asked, "Why are you up so late..." then he realized that it was morning. Early morning, but morning nonetheless. He turned to his colleagues.

"You three should better try and get a bit of sleep. You might have a couple of hours or so before school starts."

The centaur sighed and turned to the girl who had just stormed into his room. How had time passed so quickly when at the same time the telling of his story had seemed to take a thousand years?

"This is a very detailed star-chart," he said, appraising her work as best he could with all his tiredness. He did not know what she was so excited about, and Banni could not, for the life of him, think clear enough to find any meaning in her chart due to his grogginess.

"Meditating, you say?"

Could it be possible that this girl, who had not shown for his first class, could have the sight? What was she playing at.

"Look at Demos and Phobos, look at mars! And yes, I've been meditating since that idiotic 'inner' voice who's supposed to help me has dissapeared." Annie was desperate for him to look at the star chart, he was a centaur, didn't he see it?

"Could this not have waited until my class--?" Banni stared at the star-chart, even now aware of his rudeness, though he knew it was for his lack of sleep, "Yes. I see. If you had been present for my class then you would have heard me speak of this. The positions of both Mars' and Saturn's moons are worrisome indeed."

The centaur moved towards one of the windows he usually kept closed when he taught classes (so it would be dark, and the solar system model can be seen) and looked out upon the drizzly, darkly clouded morning sky.

"Yes," said Banni, "There's a storm coming all right. All signs point to it. Everyone should best be ready when it does..."

But something the girl had said struck him.

"'Inner voice'?" he asked. Banni did not know whether this girl was being truthful or if she was just being a flake. He knew almost nothing of human seers, though he knew of their penchant for 'lucky guesses and a spooky manner' and was not sure if this girl could possibly be the real thing, or another fraud. She certainly looked excited by what she'd made in her chart, and she had an pale, underfed look about her, as if she had skipped meals. Had she really been meditating?

"Yes, inner voice. I have no idea if its a girls or boys voice, but it tends to be very irritating, it helped me find a half dead guy, John Holland. A gypsy I once met unlocked it in me. Madame Luna, that was her name." Annie needed him to know, somebody had to. Annie's eyes started to go very misty.

"And you say that it has disappeared? You no longer have the power? I've never heard of such things." Banni watched the girl's eyes go misty,"What is the matter? Are you alright?"

And then he realized: She must be truly worried. Had she foreseen the same plight that he himself had?

Annie hadn't heard the rest and now her eyes were all white.

She watched in terror at the battle infront of her. Friends were fighting eachother, and noone was calm. Screams of pain filled her ears and she even saw two gigantic monsters fighting eachother. A black mist lurked over the battlefield, and drained everyone of hope.
Annie screamed.
