Read Today's Daily Prophet: Knights of Walpurgis attack Hogwarts; Belleford steps down as Hogwarts closes until further notice
Welcome to Hogwarts Interactive Role Play, one of the net's best in Harry Potter and Hogwarts role plays. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Here at Hogwarts our students are currently in their Seventh Year. Last year, the war against the Knights crescendoed into a direct attack against the school. Disappearances are still reported (or not) daily, and the Dark Lord and his Knights of Walpurgis have succeeded in spreading their message of "do as thou will" far and wide across the globe. Magical Law Enforcement, which is now the only authority in the wizarding world under Martial Law, has responded by tightening security, controlling the media, and strictly enforcing curfews and other laws. Their control is damaging to the people's freedom, and their hierarchy is a suspicious lot. It is clear that some members of the MLE like their new found power a bit too much, others see it necessary, but all are in serious danger of being consumed by it. But with the picture of just what Azariah Amaranth is after becoming ever clearer, and a third player in the form of a group called SAVIOR entering the scene, what will the MLE do next to ensure that they've got the situation under control?

The Elementium, the Higher Plane that had once been hidden just beyond the veil in the Department of Mysteries, and the Deathly Hallows. The pieces of the puzzle have been identified, but what picture do they make?

Today is Day 1 of Year Seven. Students have had time to recover from the Knight's attack, and are beginning to reluctantly return to the walls of Hogwarts. The safety of the school has been diminished, bringing up the question everyone must ask. Are you safe anywhere these days? It's up to each individual to decide their fate, where will you decide to go?

Meeting Banni; Free Time

Fera Collis
Fifth Year

Fera had snuck very close to them. She was, although she wouldn't admit it, a bit scared. A part of her just wanted to scream and run off, but that would result in death. Instead she kept her head calm and followed the teachers. She took up a pouch and filled it with pebbles before progressing into the cave after the centaur and the adult, still silent.

They entered the den with caution. Banni didn't like this. Now they with only one exit if something were to go wrong, but they had to investigate. The wimpering and yelping was growing louder still and when Banni, who was now leading the way, had taken his last step, a sharp, defensive growl was issued from the darkness ahead. It was right in front of him.

The gytrash was injured, obviously by the defensive growl punctuated by more wimpering. He looked to the right and saw, curled up together for warmth, about four or five yipping little doglike creatures: gytrash cubs.

"Well..." he said, "we found her...and then some."

Matthew entered just behind Banni, he stared at the sight before them. It was rare enough to see one Gytrash in your lifetime, let alone one and it's cubs. Matthew had never witnessed one before he had only read alot about them recently while re-learning Care of Magical Creatures, he knew Banni had but he had no time to be amazed by the sight as the creature could end up attacking them at any point.

"Now we've found her, What do we do with her and the cubs?" he asked his friend, part of him wanted to take the Gytrash and teach a class about the species, but he knew professionally this would be wrong.

Fera had found a wonderful spot to view from. Hard to see her, but easy for her to see. The Gyrash and the cubs were beautiful, in her opinion. The fact that someone called this magnificent beast a monster, made her eyes tighten. All creatures were gentle and caring, if you only knew how to communicate.

Fera stroked the wolf beside her, completely in awe.

"We'll have to transport them together and take care of the mother's injuries at the school. I'm afraid we can't leave them here if they think they can go out to the edge like that. Still..." the centaur paused, considering the situation, "...the mother wouldn't just abandon her cubs by going so far away from the den as she had today. Something...something must have scared her away...Well," he said, now stepping back to allow Matthew to perform some magic to cage them, "Just get them in as comfortable a lodging as you can to transport them in. I don't think there is much more we can do here. We should call the Regulation of Magical Creatures board to have a look at the surrounding area to--"

"You're not bringing any more humans into our forest!" came a harsh voice from the entrance of the den that made Banni freeze.

"Oh no..." said the gamekeeper as he turned around to face the centaur: a stone-faced, harsh-looking male whose bow was tightly drawn and aimed directly between Banni and Matthew.

"Oh yes," said the stone-faced centaur, grinning slightly, "I can't believe you never heard us following you--us..or the girl and her wolf!" Banni looked, and sure enough, one of the students was crouched in a corner of the den and accompanied, no matter how strange it sounds, by a wolf. Banni barely saw them in the dark, and only because the stone-faced centaur had pointed her out.

"You've lost your instincts, living the pampered life of humans, Bannishtar," the stone-faced centaur sneered.

Matthew nodded to the advise from Banni, he proceeded to cage up the mother Gytrash and her small, somewhat sweet cubs in a magical cage made with a flick of his wand. He took hold of the cage and dropped it suddenly as he heard another voice.

He span round and immediantly saw another centaur with his bow ready to shoot. Matty listened to what the centaur, obviously of Banni's old herd, he also seemed to be the leader. He hid his wand up his sleeve, not wanting to provoke the angry and powerful centaur leader with the appearance of him holding it.

He concentrated on the student more as he relised her appearence in the den, it was the same girl he had told to leave the forest earlier that day, "Miss Collis, I thought I told you to get out of the forest!" he shouted at the girl, before taking looks to the centaur which had also followed them.

Fera turned red of anger and sneered, her wolf accompianing her. She took forward her pebbles, showing her wand would probably be stupid. "Do be quiet, the childeren and their mother is asleep. I trust that you don't want to wake them, mighty centaurs." Fera gave them a duelling look.

Then she turned to the professor, "Not directly, sir. I recall you saying, think."

"So young, yet already full of the arrogance of you kind," spat the stone-faced, gray bodied centaur, "Magorian is wrong, human foals are nothing BUT innocent."

"Magorian?" Asked Banni, "Where is he? We are accompanied by a foal--..a child--our deaths mean hers as well, surely he will let us pass?"

"He would," said the gray centaur, "if he were still in charge of the herd."

The words seemed to hit Banni as surely as if the new leader had kicked him with his powerful legs.

"What?" asked Banni pleadingly, "What's happened to Magorian? Tell me, Ronin!"

"Oh we still keep him on as my advisor," said Ronin, "but thats only because certain members of the herd still give a hair on their tails what he has to say. He and Firenze are the only reasons you three are still alive and talking to me. But enough talking. In lieu of any willingness just to end your arrogant little lives, Magorian and I would like a word with you outside. Come." Ronin turned around to lead them out of the den. Banni could now hear the sounds of hooved feet as well as the sound of voices outside the den.

Banni looked to Matthew for some kind of suggestion on what to do. Banni himself figured that what would be best would be to obey if the had any hope of getting out of this alive and unharmed. Perhaps he would think differently if they now didn't have a student's well-being to be concerned about as well.

"Banni, you go talk to them, I'll stay here and look after Fera and the Gytrash" he said with a sneer to the other centaur. He watched as his friend Banni exited the den, he knew now that he himself was trapped inside with the student.

He strode over to the girl, "Fera, If you weren't Gryffindor I would be deducting points by the second" he wispered, "Besides you're being brave like any Gryff too, so well done on that." he continued, as he managed a small smile.

"You act like I'm just a human." Muttered Fera under her breath. Then she bendt down to the wolf and dilted her head backwards. The wolf went behind her.

She turned to her teacher, "I'm not scared. Theres no need to comfort me with words."

"Who said I'm comforting, I can see your brave and probably powerful for your age but remember I said your age, not my age, which is what you need to be If worst comes to worst against these Centaurs" he replied to the girl, "Just because two second years fought off a Gytrash dosen't mean you can fight off a herd of centaurs."

Matthew stood up and headed towards the exit slightly, where he could hear voices and see hooves, he stayed out of sight and listened to what was going on outside.

Outside the sky was already darkening. Banni cursed under his breath as he was confronted with about ten or so of his former herd. Among them Banni recognized the black haired former leader Magorian, the blond and good natured palomino centaur Firenze, and--Banni tensed with anger--his dark haired and bearded cousin Bane. All of them carried bows with quivers of arrows over their backs and none of them wore any clothing or adornment of any kind, even the females. Banni suddenly felt overdressed with his sword-belt and ponytail.

"Bannishtar," said Bane with a sneer, "long time no see--well, no...that's not right. I saw you just this afternoon."

"What?"

"We've begun patrolling the forest edge for any human intruders," said a dark haired female, "as a protest against further human attempts to subjugate our kind."

"Yes," Bane said, "we don't want any more humans in our forest."

"Again," Ronin began, "the only reason you weren't chased out was because you were with foals. Had you been alone, it would have been a lot worse."

"But you're too scared to enter the forest without a good reason, aren't you, Bannishtar," taunted Bane, "...or should I say 'Banni'. Since when did you become the humans' pet pony, Banni?"

The group of centaurs erupted with neighing, horsey laughter. Banni looked around them, anger coursing through his body. The only ones not laughing were Firenze and Magorian.

"Magorian, what is this?" Banni pleaded, "They can't be serious. Students come into that part of the forest often. They can't be--"

"QUIET, TRAITOR!" Ronin commanded angrily, moving threateningly towards Banni, "You've no right to tell us what we can or can't do in our forest! Neither you, nor the humans will ever--"

At this, Magorian finally spoke. Calmly and with great wisdom in his voice as he held a hand out to block Ronin he interceded: "Ronin, please," Magorian sighed in mild frustration, "It is true that the humans must pay for what they've had the gall to attempt to do. But you have my word that no harm will come to any students. We are merely barring--"

"STOP ACTING LIKE YOUR STILL THE LEADER!" Ronin exploded in anger, slapping away Magorian's arm, "Had you any backbone you still would be, but we've all grown tired or your foolishness about 'not hurting the innocent'! What innocent? What about our innocent; our young? Why must they be forced not to mature in the lands in which their fathers have matured--and their fathers? What about us!? That's why no one takes you seriously anymore." Positively fuming, the fierce new leader of the herd showed just why he had become such; and yet through it all, Magorian stood his ground, not blinking, his expression blank.

"I do!" snarled Firenze as he stood tall beside Magorian.

"And so do I," said the dark-haired female. Even Bane begrudgingly said:

"He's always had the best interest of the herd."

Their words seemed to enrage Ronin all the more. He growled fiercely as he stepped down. "Regardless," he said spitefully, "because your accompanied by a young one," the stone-faced leader seemed to be shooting daggers at Magorian and Firenze as he said this, "we will let you off so long as you let those at the school know that humans are no longer welcome here in the forest."

"And just so there's no confusion," the female added, "we consider you among them."

Perhaps it was the best Banni could hope for. He could have said something foolish like 'why don't you just talk to the wizards, I'm sure they'll understand,' but Banni knew that they wouldn't. In the back of his mind, Banni secretly agreed with his old herd's sentiment. Begrudgingly, he said, "Thank you." But Bane snarled with anger:

"Oh no! He's not getting off like that!" The entire group stared at him. Banni, however, knew exactly what his cousin was about to say...in fact he'd been expecting it. "This is twice he's entered our grounds after he was banished--and in the service of humans no less. He already spoke of bringing more of them here! I say let the humans go, but the traitor should be punished for his impunity!"

To Banni's dismay, there was a murmmer of agreement within the group. Firenze and Magorian remained silent.

"Very well," said Ronin smiling maliciously, "Firenze. Go tell the humans that they may go if they deliver our message to the others and that Banni here won't be joining them."

Firenze obeyed, entering the den. Ronin smiled all the more evilly. It seemed as though he took great pleasure in making Firenze participate in what Banni was sure Firenze did not agree with.

"Now..." said Bane with his own malignant grin, "Time to rid the family tree of fruitless branches." As the bearded centaur lifted his bow and aimed at Banni, the outcasted--and now doomed, apparently--centaur closed his eyes, preparing for the worst.

Just then, the bushes to the left of them shifted and twigs cracked ominously.

"What was that?" asked the red centaur.

Banni opened his eyes to see all of them facing the direction of the noise, bows drawn.

"It's them!" proclaimed a black bodied centaur in a panicked voice.

"Damn it!" cursed Bane.

Banni, too, drew his bow and pointed it towards the bushes. He was now standing with the group; standing as if he were still part of it.

"What is it?"

"Castle dwarves," said Magorian, "we spotted a group of them a week ago and they've been steadily making their way through the forest. There are many of them. They're the other reason why we aren't as deep in the forest as we usually are."

Castle dwarves? But in the wizarding world they are know as...

The bushes shifted much more furiously now. Banni could hear many footsteps sounding without order or direction, beating the ground like a drum with no real beat.

And then they emerged: Squat, long-limbed, old-looking elves about four feet tall with long gray hair and red eyes that almost glowed with malicious intent. There bodies and faces were horribly twisted and gnarled, and all of them had cloth caps upon their heads that seemed to have been died red then allowed to wear down to a dull reddish-brown. Some of them carried crudely made swords and knives and shields carved from wood in a hackneyed way. They snarled and growled like animals, dark intentions flowing from their miss-shapen forms.

Red Caps! Banni realized. He'd have known what they were by the sight of them even if Magorian hadn't pointed it out. So that's why the Gytrash was so far from home.

Immediately, Bane loosed and arrow that hit the foremost one right in the face. It toppled backwards, being trampled as the others charged.

Banni stationed himself beside Magorian, loosing arrows at the qrotesque creatures. He hit one right in the chest, and too was trampled underfoot by its fellows.

There must be a hundred at least!

"Red caps don't do this!" Banni proclaimed, firing yet another arrow and reaching for another in almost one fluid motion, "They just wait for unsuspecting travelers and attack them for their blood! And since when are there so many?"

Magorian shot two more before answering, "I cannot answer that. I only know that they are drawn by two things," he fired another shot, "blood and castles."

Realization dawned on Banni.

But they can't get anywhere near Hogwarts, Banni rationalized, The protection...

But Banni didn't have any more time to think on it, for Magorian had left his side, and a red cap was straight at the outcasted centaur. Banni fired an arrow at it, which it caught in its wooden shield. It seemed to sneer with pleasure as it swung its crude blade. Banni reached for the hilt of his sword with his right hand and drew it, locking blades with the dark creature, his left hand maintaining a tight grip on his bow. The gnarled elf growled with anger contorting its already malformed features, showing its crooked, yellow, dagger-like teeth. Having no hands left for fighting, Banni gave the creature a swift, bone-crunching kick that sent it flying, giving him time to sheath his sword, run to where it had landed, draw an arrow, and shoot it in the chest. It gave a horrid lurch before going completely still.

All around him, arrows were flying and red caps were falling. It seemed as though they were no match for the centaurs. But just then Banni remembered: Matthew and the girl were still inside the den! He immediately took off in that direction. When a snarling red cap got in his way (unarmed, no less) he again drew his curved sword and struck the demon with a force that lifted from the ground and over Banni's head, its blood splattering over his face and chest. He didn't flinch, instead, he raced towards the den, hoping his friend and the disobedient girl had not come to harm.

A centaur entered the den where Matthew and the young Gryffindor girl, Fera, were still trapped inside. "Your free to go, but tell the humans that there will be trouble" the centaur stated in a low, almost depressed tone.

Matthew ran over to the Gytrash cage, picked it up and slung it over his shoulder, next he withdrew his wand but upon doing so he heard noises, noises of conflict outside. He feared the worst that they had began to slay Banni.

"Miss Collis, get your wand ready, you may need it.", he prepared himself up for a fight, assuming the centaurs would come for the two of them next, the other centaur was still inside the den, but was looking out of their safety place as if they were not the victims.

He walked out the den, past the centaur who did nothing, to see a fight between the centaurs and what looked like Red caps, this was confirmed when he saw the way they were fighting.

Matty looked left, right then straight ahead as he say Banni charging towards them, a red cap was behind him, ready to strike his friend with a club, "Impedimenta" he stated, striking the goblin-like creature with a spell that stopped it right in his tracks.

"I can't fight well with my wand. Let me use my ways." She turned around and snarled to the wolf and together they left the den. Fera and the wolf attacked with her luring one of them close and the wolf ripping out their throat. The red caps weren't very smart, but they were strong and fast. Luckily, the wolf was a bit faster. "Red Caps, what you know about them, Sir?"

Matthew watched as the girl's adopted wolf took out another of the approaching Red caps, he smiled, she was a worthy Gryffindor.

"I know they are nasty little buggars, But they normally attack Muggles not wizards and fellow creatures, I'm not sure why.." he was cut off by another one, "Reducto" he shouted, sending the dwarf-like creature hurtling into the trees beyond.

"..Why they are here." he continued, saying to the girl with slight confusion himself.

"Someone's been really scared, that attrackts wolves and most animals. Reddies probably smell fear and are attracted to it. Our Centaur mates and us have been a wee bit too scared." Fera took a twig from behind her and blinded a Red Cap, before kicking it hard in the stomach.

"You know your, right" he sent a spell at another Red cap, this time freezing it in it's tracks, there were hundreds of them all coming in small waves but they were being picked off by the centaurs, whom had lost intrest in Matthew, Banni and the girl, who were also picking them off one-by-one.

"They could of sensed the injury to the Gytrash too, It's all starting to tie in, Oh I know this isn't the time or place, but 1 point to Gryffindor for correctly talking about those Red Caps."

"Well, then theres one postive thing." Fera had been distracted for a momement and pain shot out from her arm. A red cap had taken the oportunity to bite. Not hard enough to lose her arm, but enough to start bleeding as crazy. She kicked him so he flew backwards. Fera growled to the wolf, who went in a defensive position in front of her, while she ripped off more of her robe to tie tightly over the sore.

In the corner of her eye, Fera saw the red cap smear his hat in with her blood. "YUCK!"

Matthew was caught up in blasting away the Red Caps, he failed to noticed the young Gryffindor girl become hurt and injured, she seemed to be bleeding quite badly. Healing was the only magic he was not sure about and he did not know what muggles would do with a bite like that from a non-magical creature/animal let alone a magical hobgoblin thing.

"Fera" he said, looking over his shoulder, "Find some massive leaves and wrap them around your arm, I'll then try to help."

He looked forward and called to his friend, "Banni, The girl's hurt!"
