| Welcome to Hogwarts Interactive Role Play, one of the net's best in Harry Potter and Hogwarts role plays. We hope you enjoy your visit. Here at Hogwarts our students are currently in their Seventh Year. Last year, the war against the Knights crescendoed into a direct attack against the school. Disappearances are still reported (or not) daily, and the Dark Lord and his Knights of Walpurgis have succeeded in spreading their message of "do as thou will" far and wide across the globe. Magical Law Enforcement, which is now the only authority in the wizarding world under Martial Law, has responded by tightening security, controlling the media, and strictly enforcing curfews and other laws. Their control is damaging to the people's freedom, and their hierarchy is a suspicious lot. It is clear that some members of the MLE like their new found power a bit too much, others see it necessary, but all are in serious danger of being consumed by it. But with the picture of just what Azariah Amaranth is after becoming ever clearer, and a third player in the form of a group called SAVIOR entering the scene, what will the MLE do next to ensure that they've got the situation under control? The Elementium, the Higher Plane that had once been hidden just beyond the veil in the Department of Mysteries, and the Deathly Hallows. The pieces of the puzzle have been identified, but what picture do they make? Today is Day 1 of Year Seven. Students have had time to recover from the Knight's attack, and are beginning to reluctantly return to the walls of Hogwarts. The safety of the school has been diminished, bringing up the question everyone must ask. Are you safe anywhere these days? It's up to each individual to decide their fate, where will you decide to go? You're currently viewing our forum as a guest. | The Secret of Ian's Heritage; Ian plot ideas | |

Well, I was struggling to come up with an overall plot for Ian. I put more thought into it then anything that's just a hobby should get. Still without any ideas of my own, I looked instead to my ancestors--and so, too, will Ian. I left Ian's father's identity a secret because...well...I admit I didn't have much of an idea who he was either. But I've decided now to take what I know about my own heritage and apply it to Ian (while superimposing Harry Potter-type sensibilities over it). As an American of mostly Native blood, I descend from two tribes: The Cherokee and the Choc-taw. Ian's father is also from an unnamed tribe (the tribe name will not be important, seeing as how I'm just basing it of of Cherokee and Choc-taw legends and rituals and adding in the Harry Potter-verse stuff). He and Ian's mother met at the Quidditch World Cup (where witches and wizards of all nationalities gather). It was one of those "let's do it in the bathroom, it's more romantic that way" kind of romances. Thus Ian's mother was pregnant at 16. Native American wizards (known as Spiritual Men, Witchdoctors, and Medicine Men to their tribes) relied mostly on potion-making and ritual for their magic, as they used no wands. Their magic, therefore, acted much like an untrained wizard's in that it just happened during surges of emotion, though they came to control it without wands to some extent (like Voldemort did before he came to school). Ian's father was the first in about a Century to be able to use what was considered gifts of the Great Spirit (goes by many names, though you'll find almost every tribe believing in some sort of "Great Spirit" with few differences between them), so he was essentially muggle-born. He had been sent to an American School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where he, much like any muggleborn, learned gradually of the Wizarding World. However, there was a specific destiny each "chosen one of the Great Spirit" must fulfill. Ian's father abandoned that destiny for the atheistic wizard society. Ian must take the place meant for his father. His ultimate destiny is to die and become a "Spirit Guide". Ian will have his own Spirit Guide to--er--guide him along the path. This guide is nothing like Annie's inner eye (for it neither knows nor tells what the future holds) or like Hellius' voices (for it has no control over him and is never sinister in nature). Indeed, this spirit is more than a voice in Ian's head. In fact, the spirit appears corporally in front of Ian, clear as day, and only when he is alone. The number of times he will see this spirit could probably be counted on one hand, as I see no need to have the Ancestral Spirit (for it is one of his ancestors who is eager to have Ian take her place so she may rest) be a constant presence. The whole thing about the "Twin Dragon" wands (read Ian's Character Page) will tie into this in a very unexpected way. So, what do I need from someone here? Well, if Ian is successful in joining Julian's clique, then I'm sure he will eventually end up doing something that would weigh heavily on his conscience. After that, the Ancestral Spirit will contact him. Words people have said to him will play back through his mind, driving him up the walls and then out of the castle in a fury. He will end up in the Forbidden Forest. Why the Forest? Because many Native traditions of manhood and womanhood involve going into the forest alone. I've tied in my Spirit Guide plot with that. After that, someone needs to find him in the morning. Preferably someone from the "good" side. That way, Ian will have what will possibly be his first REAL contact with that faction. Ultimately, the Spirit Guide will tell Ian what must be done: "You've got to be a Spirit, boy. You can't be a ghost. You've got to love, boy. For the Spirit cannot descend without love." So...ideas? Is this plot okay? I know I kind of did my own thing here with magic lore, hope that's okay. |

If we see a man glorifying his race, gender, or creed, we can understand there is nothing about himself that deserves glorification.

Interesting, and I like how you worked in the Native Americans into the lore of Harry Potter. I would like to see more of the spirit guide, however, as it seems that it will be a partial conscience to you. I'm sure that other plotlines can be intertwined with yours, but otherwise, it looks good. |

Definately going to have to wait until 3rd year, seeing as this one is almost over. Also, I think contact with his second-or-something-other cousin Bellatrix will be useful in helping along a fascination with the Dark Arts (Bella and I have them meeting over the summer. I sent a PM to James, seeing as he is also a Black and therefore related to Ian and Bella, but I haven't seen him on, lately). So probably as soon as possible when 3rd year begins. I really want to hit home the fact that Ian is pretty much selling his soul in order to belong with "the group" here (and of his own free will, no manipulation whatsoever). He'll stop being a door-mat eventually, but he's got a lot of reckoning to do beforehand (I'm talking years' worth). To Annie: I apologize for the mistake. I'll get it right from now on, I promise

Sounds really interesting, can't wait to see how that turns out. I really do like how you wove the lore into it. |
