| Welcome to Hogwarts Interactive Role Play, one of the net's best in Harry Potter and Hogwarts role plays. We hope you enjoy your visit. Here at Hogwarts our students are currently in their Fifth Year. This year, Hogwarts has been chosen to host a legendary event, The Triwizard Tournament! However, these are dark times we live in, for the Dark Lord Azariah Amaranth has escaped the bonds which have kept him in Ministry custody, and has destroyed the Ministry in the plain sight of several muggles, effectively placing the Wizarding World under martial law and placing our very way of life in jeopardy. Strict curfews have been placed on all citizens, and now that school has started, no one--not students or staff--are allowed in or out of Hogwarts until further notice. So cancel any trips out you might have, because all students and staff must remain in, and everyone else must stay out. Now the Dark Lord is in preparation to topple the stability of both worlds and all races; to deal the final, shattering blow to the current world order. Why all this madness; this destruction and anarchy? Just what is Amaranth's ultimate goal? The first task has now ended. Christmas is here and we all know what that means: The Yule Ball will commence tonight. If your character is planning on attending and doesn't already have a date, be sure to snag one before all the good ones are gone! Today (Day 5) is Christmas day, so there is no class. We will have morning festivities before moving to lunch and freetime, which will then lead us to the night of the ball. You're currently viewing our forum as a guest. ---- Please use this format for requesting abilities; the limit is bound to change eventually.
____ As for certain skills that you have, I will make no limit. It really doesn't make a huge difference anyways. There will be a limit to how many people have special abilities, so keep that in mind. Note that if a character becomes inactive, he or she is subject to forfeit of their abilities. It isn't fair for that space to be taken up when another character might want it. Edited by Hellius Surla, Nov 4 2009, 04:52:36 PM.

Then you can speak better in public. Such as if you were in a situation where everyone else would get nervous, you don't. Abilities generally speak for themselves; being part Veela makes you more attractive, Magic Resistance makes you resistant to certain spell effects (only for Giants, Trolls, or halfbreeds), and then the others, besides Element Controlling, should be known to most people. Element Controlling: Being able to control a certain element to your whim. For example: Fire: Control everything and anything that's fire to how you see fit. Change the temperature, shape, and size. Snap your fingers and set things aflame. (Great for 12 year olds and up.) Water: Control water to how you see appropriate. Conjure it from anywhere and guarantee that you will never go thirsty. Air: Create wind and summon tornadoes. You can make gales that would rival Hurricane Katrina! Ground/Rock: Create landmasses and conjure earthquakes! Shadows: They're everywhere, they're black as night, and they create senses of fear in the hearts of children. Shrouded in mystery, those that control shadows must give up life energy to make their dark entities. There are rumored methods to reverse the effect, but the shadow controller must be quite skilled. Light: The life giving force in the universe. Without it, we'd all... die. Change this life giving force into a deadly weapon; burn whatever you wish like ants under a magnifying glass, or get rid of all that burning sunlight on a hot summer day. Plants: Uh... plants - make more, make less, stop global warming, make them eat your enemies. It sorta speaks for itself... Molecules: Change anything around you! If it has mass, then you can change it's shape, form, weight, and anything about it. (Deadly towards anything that breathes under the sun. Be careful about the changes to someone's anatomy that you may alter.) |

I edited my first post to add limits for all the powers that are available. Please use the format that I have listed to request the power you wish to have. Thanks. PS: Julian, I remember seeing in the past topic that you wanted the ability to talk to snakes. If you still wanted that, I have put it in for you. |

This thread has been brought back due to discussions concerning character special abilities. We Admins will from now on be paying closer attention and scrutiny to when an applicant applies with a character who has a special ability. If, however, you wish to apply for one here, we will consider it. From now on, DO NOT APPLY IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A LEGIT PLOT REASON FOR HAVING A SPECIAL POWER. We've had too many characters running around with special powers for no reason other than they want them, and we would like to preserve some of the sanity of the site, please. Also, the elemental control powers are tied to the plot, so I would ask that only members with proven longevity and dedication apply. And remember: Just because you apply for a special power doesn't mean you'll get it. You better have good reason or we'll just veto it. That being said, I'm fusing the Patronus/Animagus threads with this one so everything will be here in this one thread. [EDIT: If you have an ability that you have previously requested, but it is not on the list, then please post again here using the new application template and one of us will see to it.] [EDIT 2: Also note that if you claim an animagus form or patronus as a student, please note that does not mean you have it straight away. Just like any learned ability, you will be required to learn it in some way in the RP (unless you are an adult, as they would probably already have the skill).] |

Name: Precious Hindert Ability Requesting: Transforming into mermaid while immersed in water. Plot Reason: Precious never knew this side of herself. So it was a total shock when she found it. When she grows up, she'll become a mermaid siren and lure fishermen into their watery graves. So it looks like Precious will be spending the rest of her life in the sea. I'd say like when she's 26 of 27. Precious will also meet her grandmother, who is Sam Hindert's mum. Lucinda (grandmother) is a full mermaid, and her genes passed down to Precious. (Must I explain, Ian, how they created Sam? lol) And Jack (Precious' grandfather) was a fisherman who ran of with Lucinda and got married and had Sam. |

Okay... I see how this could be a good plot and all that, but how is it relevant to the events occurring involving other students? I could just as easily say that Dave is the bastard son of Dumbledore and be super powerful, justify it later in his life, while still allowing me to powerplay when in school. Not to single you out, but this is the sort of thing that we're on about; it seems that no characters are normal. |

Name: Eleonore Collins Ability Requesting: Charms Plot Reason: Ella's always been very gifted when it comes to charms, ever since she managed to blast John Holland halfway across the room during her first charms lesson while attempting to cast the body bind (which she now considers her "specialty"). Eventually, I'm thinking 6th year at the earliest or 7th year, she's going to somehow (still not sure how exactly-possibly by talking to a teacher or reading it in some book) begin to take it farther and start experimenting with charms and spells and learning to manipulate them, and eventually she's going to get a job at the Ministry in the Experimental Charms department. |

On the other hand, it doesn't seem as though the use of this power would necessarily be something one could use to "powerplay" and such. I really don't see the harm in this one other than, yes, it seems as though no one here wants to be normal (and I can actually understand that) but I'd like to see more learned abilities from people rather than just stuff that is hereditary and what people seem to be magically born with. As for Ella, there's really no reason to sign up for that, as it isn't a special power or ability, but something Ella works for, right? We're okay with that 100% and there is really no reason to apply. Hell, the only reason learned abilities like Animagi and Patronus charms are on the list is so we can keep track of it and keep people from getting animagi forms without any real reason. So, as I said before, Ella, no reason to apply for proficiency in Charms as its something you work for, and isn't some possibly out-of-control power that so one will use. Now back to Precious, I'm going to attempt to talk it over with the other staff. Personally, I don't have a problem with it other than it takes up a custom powers slot, but that doesn't fill very fast (or didn't when this thread was first made--that may have changed, and we may even up the Limit on certain powers). As long as she uses it well and considers both the pros and cons of having such an odd heritage--and we stop getting so many people wanting do this sort of thing--then okay. But again, I do understand where Dave is coming from because we've had so many running around with special powers its hard to have any sense of realism or sanity about the place, and accepting Precious' request might make others think "so she gets hers, but not me?" and that's an issue. Personally, I don't mind telling people to suck it up, but again, even they'd have a point, especially if they've got a good reason for having a power but all the spots are taken. I just wish people would consider these things BEFORE they arbitrarily decide to have a special power on their character. Again, I'm just not up for EVERYONE running around with special powers, and whilst Precious' is out there, I think in a good way (lol at Precious luring men to a watery grave for the rest of her life.) And just to be clear: Most learned skills and personality traits don't need to be applied for. Its just in the case of Occlumency, Legillimency, Animagi, and Disillusionment that we want to have some control over who and how many. |

Name: Violetta Sparks Ability Requesting: Metamorphagus Plot Reason: Violet writes the Sparks Report with Charlie Johnson. Being able to change her appearance at will (after practice, of course) would not only be beneficial to her, but to her column. She'd be able to stop peeking around corners and get the dirt straight from the sources by assuming the roles of fellow students (with permission). And plus, I've already roleplayed her trying to figure out why whenever she thinks of Precious Hindert her hair turns pink.

I don't see why not, Violetta. I've added you as a Metamorpagus. [EDIT: I've added a new section for Half-breeds, and fused the Veela Charm section with it. This section is for powers and abilities gained by an unusual part-creature heritage. Precious Hindert has been added to this section.] |

I'm not completely sure if this was posted before... But, hey. Name: Nicole Flannings Ability Requesting: Custom (Dollmaking) Specified: Nicole begins to make a horde of dolls, but not any type of dolls, they're alive. Of course, they own no personality, but they have a strong sense of loyalty and such. Sadly, they can only do one thing well, and all other not well. So, Nicole has a large bunch, which she keeps in a suitcase. (They also take a long time to make.) Plot Reason: Nicole Flannings starts to build dolls for her closest friends, uses them to spy, and such. They become her little toy minions. But, she is secrete with them, as she doesn't want them taken from her and shown to the whole wide world. Because, if the ministry saw them, they'd know it was dark magic. (Although Nicole don't use them for nessecarily dark reasons, she doesn't just use them for good either.) I hope I specified that one enough. I added the extra details so you knew the limits. (Personally, if I was a admin, I wouldn't have let a student run around making dangerous dark dolls with no weaknesses or limits. :P) Also, I'm not sure if its a ability or not, but it is only her who can make them. (She destroys the book.) And, it is a very demanding process, which is easily fooled up.(Is fooled up actually a phrase?) So, sorta, she's talented at it, its not normal to be so... I guess its a ability. -------------------------------------------------------- Name: Annie Stones Ability Requested: Removale from 'seer'. Plot Reason: I don't want her to be one, as I think it doesn't fit with her, and I was quite bad at making it realistic and such. Not that it matters, since I probably won't play her. The slot ought to be opened to someone who actually makes it worthwhile. Thanks. |

To Annie: I'll be adding Nicole's Doll-making ability to the list because I do like it, it is creative, it has limits, and I know you're not one to powerplay. To Morgan: Eh...I'm just not sure about this. I did make a note of an applicant having to have been around for a while and prove their longevity before we would allow them to take part in having an elemental control power, as it is tied to the overall plot. If I didn't make a note of that, then I intended to. Sorry, but I think you'll need to be around a bit longer before I can justify giving that to you. (If you notice, everyone else on that list is practically a veteran, or at least has been around long enough to give serious thought to their characters and their place in the RP, as that's what we need with this sort of thing.) I'll certainly be willing to consider you more closely in the future. P.S.: I am somewhat sad to hear that you are not willing to continue playing Annie Stones, Annie. She will be missed. |

Name: Emma Brookelle Gray Ability Requesting: Elemental Manipulation (Plants) Plot Reason: Emma's mother was in fact a dark witch. She entertained these sadistic friends, and held the wrong sort of company for several years up until very recently. Always being gone on "business", Emma never saw much of her mother or father and only saw the path of destruction their suspicious parties left - though Emma never anticipated that the men and woman crawling around la maison de Gray at all hours of the night were of such a corrupted crop. After Emma's mother leaves, Em is left to fend for herself, returning home to an indifferent father who barely escaped the same fate as his wife. Emma has always had a strong connection to nature. When her mother was gone, she would feel comforted by her gardens, always planting them and, in return, receiving pride and love long denied from her parents. The bond between her and the earth was always strong - when she needed "peace", the Room of Requirement gave her a garden. However, when she discovers this newfound talent of manipulating plants (I had an idea of how, though it depends on the coming events) she takes it quite seriously. Her love of plants has always been her saving grace, and her ability to manipulate them is nothing sort of expected from a girl with such a green thumb. She will, of course, work endlessly to perfect her skills - through trials and tribulations she'd have to seek the guidance of an adult, and her detirmination to succeed would show through. Her weaknesses would melt away, replaced by confidence in her abilities. She'd be able to prove to herself that she was not as worthless as she once thought herself to be due to the lack of attention from her parents. By this time, Emma's mother's death may be investigated, and Em may now understand the truth of her mother's life, which would inspire Emma to use her powers sparingly - yet when she does so, the results yielded are pleasantly surprising. Now, this is simply an idea...but what if the Knights of Walpurgis were to find out about Elodie and Yves Gray's daughter, and find out about her skill? If she's under the guidance of Charles Tortal (just an assumption) he would no doubt see her potential, and try to subtly sway her to side of the Knights. Emma would be faced with the ultimate challenge - to live as her parents before her did, or rewrite her own destiny. Perhapsss.
