| Welcome to Hogwarts Interactive Role Play, one of the net's best in Harry Potter and Hogwarts role plays. We hope you enjoy your visit. Here at Hogwarts our students are currently in their Seventh Year. Last year, the war against the Knights crescendoed into a direct attack against the school. Disappearances are still reported (or not) daily, and the Dark Lord and his Knights of Walpurgis have succeeded in spreading their message of "do as thou will" far and wide across the globe. Magical Law Enforcement, which is now the only authority in the wizarding world under Martial Law, has responded by tightening security, controlling the media, and strictly enforcing curfews and other laws. Their control is damaging to the people's freedom, and their hierarchy is a suspicious lot. It is clear that some members of the MLE like their new found power a bit too much, others see it necessary, but all are in serious danger of being consumed by it. But with the picture of just what Azariah Amaranth is after becoming ever clearer, and a third player in the form of a group called SAVIOR entering the scene, what will the MLE do next to ensure that they've got the situation under control? The Elementium, the Higher Plane that had once been hidden just beyond the veil in the Department of Mysteries, and the Deathly Hallows. The pieces of the puzzle have been identified, but what picture do they make? Today is Day 1 of Year Seven. Students have had time to recover from the Knight's attack, and are beginning to reluctantly return to the walls of Hogwarts. The safety of the school has been diminished, bringing up the question everyone must ask. Are you safe anywhere these days? It's up to each individual to decide their fate, where will you decide to go? You're currently viewing our forum as a guest. I do like the idea of using the Tales of Beedle the Bard in the plotline. The fairytales are really, really good but what about possibly another of the Tales? Its been a week or so since I read them; do any others have a similar idea in that there are mythical objects containedwithin it? If not the Hallows can work too, would just like to make our own as opposed to making similar to canon. Looking forward to seeing your revised plotline Hellius' with this stuff in mind. However, the piece I'm looking to the most is the castle's protections falling next/following year so dark creatures/wizards start to infiltrate the school (ah ha! in search of the hallows that are rumoured to be within). I really like that! |

Using another one of the lesser known tales would be a brilliant idea. The only problem that could arise is if there are players (specifically people key to the plot) who have not gained access to the book yet. I myself, have not yet had a chance to read any of the others and as such I would be completelly in the dark should another of the fairy tales be decided on. |

The tales will never be released in the entirety. However, if you visit www.mugglenet.com you can follow a link and read 'reviews' by A,azon who purchased the last copy. Tjeir reviews r essentially detailed summaries of the tales and you get a very good view of the story, just not in JK's exact words. |

Wait- i just had an idea. Since we were talking about having our characters have lives after graduating (I think i remember someone saying that, and I'm pretty sure most people agreed...), i don't think that the evil guy (leader of Blissful Agony or whatever) should be killed in the "big battle"- because if they do die, then the whole thing is pretty much over, isn't it? what if it's more of the first big battle of the War, where things go from attacks to outright chaos (kind of like the DoM battle in OoTP).

Hellius, I know people are pointing out the flaws of the plot and not hinting at anything. That is frustrating. However, also consider that they may not have a solution. I've said it before, and I'll say it again. The number 1 thing on this site is for a roleplay within the school. A plot line is only a secondary, not necessarily temporary but not as ever present as the roleplay. I, like others, think that the kinks need to be sorted, this is not a sole relience on you, before the plot starts. Sure, it may delay the ideas but better to get the problems out of the way now rather then have them interfere with the greater roleplay. Don't forget that. The tales of the beetle bard are great and I reckon they would fit well. Even if we use one of the lesser known ones, there is a chance we could have the Amazon part posted on the site. (Perhaps it may be too much of a stealing thing but I'm sure they won't care if we give them credit and link it back to them. Besides, it's not as if we are using this for a profit or financial reasons or anything like that). |

Someone can try to recreate a story after the reveiw... but I can't see how we can use the other tales... If we are to use another fairytale, then I think we have to write it ourselves. Which will anyway put OUR mark on it, so... Yeah. |

I have to admit, I like the plots being created. Frankly speaking, sure, Hogwarts is first and foremost a school... But school can get pretty dull when nothing's happening. If JK had had nothing happen except school in one of her books she would have went bankrupt. Personally, I think the plots will draw more people than the lessons. Even I tend to forget about the site when nothing is going on but the lessons. When the things with Julian/Mascarcra etc were happening, that's when the site was really exciting. |

Generally, without a plot, there's nothing to roleplay. Without one, people will (as Addie put) not feel the urge to come be involved. A roleplay isn't a roleplay without a story to tell. Edit: I'm not sure if I could've said 'roleplay' anymore than I did in that post... Edit x2: After reading up on the Beedle and the Bard, I may have discovered a motive that Charles can have for the events he would perform. In the story of Babbitty Rabbitty and her Cackling Stump, the king wants to capture all the magic in the world. Instead of the highly destructive ideal of destroying all of those with dirty blood, I find it more interesting for Charles' character to have the want to gain unthinkable power. He would drain magical life forces with a spell he created, and then would seek out the 3 magical items of legend which are hidden somewhere inside the school. But, I don't want to abandon the idea of the murders of the dirty bloods entirely. Julian's group (which would create a subdivision of the resurrected Blissful Agony) would assault those with dirty blood. Charles would corrupt and stay in the shadows until the time would be for him to strike and gather magical life force. It would be a 2 part group, but one section drifting away from the actual mission. |

Hellius, I'm not talking about no plot line, but what do you think will happen if this plot line pauses, or screws up? you reckon everythings going to be fine or will it crumble? Your right, just Lessons is boring, that's why we've done the christmas thing, and exams, and hogsmeade, and yes, eventually nice juicy plots and stories for characters to live. As I have said previously, I'm not against the idea of a plot line but don't attack the people that point flaws, such as Mac and Myself. I don't need to go into personal histories about whats happened with this site previously. I don't think it's fair but most people will remember. I wouldn't want to be a part of a stie that died again. Would you? |

Edited my first post with the new plotline. I purposely left several areas blank for a lack of anything to put there, but I worked Nicole's ideas into the original areas. I cut down on the violence, and I hope everything will work as of now. With a plotline, Jake, there will be more to roleplay. At the moment, there is generally nothing to roleplay. So, if we gather enough members up due to something exciting instead of nothing, maybe the plotline won't pause. Maybe the plotline will be fine. Maybe we can actually have this site be something that people want to do in their spare time instead of something like a, "hey, I'm bored. I'll go see what's goin' on at Hogwarts: Interactive Roleplay." The fact that I'm here now says enough. I like this site and I'm interested in it. If you just want to roleplay simple events of magical school life, that's fine. People don't need to be involved in a plotline, but I can generally assure that one will be there. |

Hellius, I'm not against a plot line. Something you conveniently ignore when trying to push your point across. I want a plot, I agree. I don't enjopy having to repeat myself and dumb it down time after time because you simply ignore it but I find myself doing it over and over again. I'll put it in a sepperate paragraph for you just to outline it. You need to sort out the kinks of this plot line before it goes forth. How are you going to run it in terms of thread? do we have leadership groups? can they commit themselves in advance? can you organise notification when someone is needed? what can you do in the meantime in a lead up to this plot? There are faults and stuff that could pause the R.P which is worse then if we R.Ped with no plot line. I think everyone would agree they would rather a site that was updated with regular posts from characters rather then the website stalling again because we are waiting on certain conversations. |

So I'm all for the charms/protections coming down around Hogwarts for the next year and even if it isn't a major plotpoint it's still something that can be a minor plotpoint. In any case, the aggressor is likely to be Tortal so perhaps he can start planning the how and why for the attack? |

Jake raises a good point here. Since we are taking the extraordinary aspects away from people to avoid another Potter like character that overcomes everything, a bunch of ordinary third years would get thrashed around. Esentially, Tortal himself could overrun the school and only the professors would stand a chance at combating him. Take Gabe for example, his family taught him the disarm spell but he has not perfected his use of it and won't until it is taught in Charms and even if somehow he completed his Animagi training in one year (Note: unheard of and would never happen), then someone as powerful as Tortal could cast one spell and blam-o, say goodbye to Kelgiroy. I think my point here is, and maybe someone will agree with this, until we have students that graduate or hit at least seventh year, we need to start thinking smaller. As much as I hate to be the heavy, this would just be entirely to much for the students to handle. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Note: I will cover several ideas I have for Gabe in a seperate post at a later date, but I would like to start some Animagi studies for him in the near future. I know we don't want the site overrun with such creatures, so Tristan, can we talk about this at some point to make sure it is alright? |

No. Fourth year, there will be attacks from several dark creatures which would distract students and teachers alike. This would cause a general uproar and would allow Tortal to search for the 3 gifts of death (Invisibility Cloak, Elder Wand, Resurrection Stone) after he hears a rumor that they are all at Hogwarts. What I thought could work is that maybe an admin or someone could create a different "event" member who triggers the dark creature attacks. That way, we know what is happening at that current moment, and students don't need to assume whatever is happening. --Another note, only stupid people that are students would attempt to fight off the beasts. I was imagining that if an attack occurred, then students would flee the scene.--- The reason I am assuming that you're against a plotline mainly is because you're saying that the plotline is optional and secondary. You're going about the many different bad possibilities that may happen. Those things, to me, are more highlighted in my head than other points of interest, and, as normal, I'm generally ignorant. However, we're going to work out the kinks; that's what this forum is for. But before that can happen, we generally have to build up the outline that comes with it. We need a general idea of what will happen, and then fix the events to make it more realistic. Sorry if I came across as an ass, and I now see what you were trying to say. Do we have leadership groups? : By "leadership groups", do you mean like with the Quidditch captains, but with the bad/good groups inside of Hogwarts? I think that would be all up to the members of the group that the people are in, but supposing that the good group is what it is said to be and the dark group is what it is, then good = democracy, and bad = dictatorship. Can they commit themselves in advance? : What I think is best is to collect the most active members and have them create the "leaders" of the groups. That way, we know they are there when events are to occur. Can you organize notification when someone is needed? : I'm sure one of the admins can help with that. However, some people create hotmail addresses just to join and never actually check them. What can you do in the meantime in a lead up to this plot? : 2nd year is ending in January, and then 3rd year begins Charles' class. During that time, more mischief can occur. Faults that could pause the R.P which is worse then if we RP-ed with no plot line. : |

also, i think that lack of activity will be much more of a problem if we don't have a plot. I mean really, when are people going to be more motivated to rp- when there's dark creatures attacking and people getting in duels and the like or when it's just day-to day lessons? SO really, by making a plot there's less of a chance that it will pause due to lack of activity, which is good because there will be a bigger thing to pause! (this makes sense to me...does it make sense to normal minds as well? ) |

Fair enough: we wait for that to occur. But in the meantime what are the plans for the new year besides Tortal's class? Do we start these new factions now but on a small scale? Because essentially we already have the factions about (ie Myself vs Julian etc) So what do we want to start happening in the new year? |

Thats better, organisation of duels and little off shoots. We can't just have these two groups. I reckon we should also have the "shades of grey". It's like in the actualy series. Not everyone is either a death eater or a member of the order of the pheonix as Harry seems to point out to Slughorn in H.B.P. Also, this is again with the Snatchers, they weren't death eaters but by no means where they good. Yeah, I agree with the broad shape of things going but I don't think the schools defences should come down for a few years. Ella, hence the bringing in of smaller activities such as quidditch. The installation of a plot line as far as I can see is unanimous it is just the method of instillation and how we go about bringing in the plot is debated.
Meaning that so many students who don't have professor accounts are left out? What is the point, it just sort of becomes a teacher based role-play because they are the only ones that could handle something like that. Another reason to hold this off and slow it down. Great, bring in Tortals class, bring in the groups, start introductions and initiations. What else? |
